Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Goddamn the epicness!
I would like to say though, "The walk to Arlong Park" is so much better in the anime. Luffy hands over his hat to Nami, Zoro puts on his bandana and Sanji lights a cigarette. The epic soundtrack on the back and the "Walk". You know the enemies are fucked xD
I love rereading the whole series, i really do <3

Belle-Mere’s sacrifice is one of those things that really make this manga special. Nami’s backstory has truly made her character transcend.

Eiichiro Oda is definitely one of the best manga artists to ever live, I take too much time in any manga or comic to watch the characters, the details in every scene, and he is just so good and talented and very smart.
Luffy is the friend you wish to have but you never will, only a dog is this loyal.
Nami's story was heart breaking, I knew Arlong was leading her on about the 100 million beli, but everything else was actually like I just saw it for the first time.
His deal should have sounded fishy (no pun intended) from the get go, 100m is 4 months of the village paying their tribute, it makes no sense to give it up for this low a price.
I can't wait to see the upcoming fight where we will have new exciting fights as Usopp will take part this time, and also Sanji, but I have to wait a little to advance my other reads.

The Walk to Arlong Park is one of the best moments in Shonen history. It's so simple, yet if effects everybody the same way. Classic stuff. Everybody needs a friend like Luffy (Though, I'm sure that same thing has been said about pretty much every Shonen protagonist ever).

I keep wondering - can't they pay each other's ransom? Let some villagers start a quick bit of crowdfunding to save Bellemere's life, I'm sure Arlong wouldn't have cared. It would rather have taken the best punch out of Nami's backstory, but maybe they could have figured out another reason for things to go as they did... I don't know.

Still, this is the volume where One Piece finally comes out on its own. It's where the plot and the characters click into place, where the emotion kicks into high gear, and where the Straw Hat Pirates become something more than just a bunch of morons hanging out with one another. It's where the story got really good.

This was a great installment for a couple of reasons:
1) The characters were all distinct in both voice and depiction which helps since there were a lot
2) A LOT of plot progression, which we don't always get, and we learned a ton about Nami
3) Stakes were raised for everyone in Luffy's crew and we learned more about the team
4) Ends on one of the best cliffhangers yet in the series

Can't wait to pick up the next volume

Nami’s backstory will always gets me bawling my eyes out(op isn’t good for my mental health)
Anyways Arlong Park arc will always be iconic and the iconic “walk”😮‍💨

I also noticed that sometimes some characters are mentioned that are in the future very important or they say something that becomes big in the future arcs which I didn’t notice when i first watched the anime which im glad i decided to read the manga

This volume has my favorite scene from the early part of the story. It's lost its impact somewhat since I've read it four or five times by now, but Nami remains my favorite character, aside from Luffy himself.

I wonder just how many crewmembers will have tragic backstories, though? Shonen manga is all about melodrama, I know, but too many more incidents like that would make things feel more manipulative than earnest, imo. I haven't read much beyond this volume, so we'll find out how things go together.

This volume was heavy with backstory for Nami's character and allowed her to be fully fleshed out for us to understand what she's going through and what she's trying to accomplish.

It also introduces Arlong's crew and their extorsion strategies on the villagers that has been going on for almost a decade.

The best part of this volume has to be the epic ending that brings Luffy and crew to take action as they see one of their friends hurt. Beautiful.

the title of this volume is very fitting, because i freaking cried! the panel of nami begging for luffy's help got me so bad, and then the whole crew, without a second thought, backing her up!!

You know what? This was honestly pretty good, by far my favorite volume so far. I think finally (and slowly) One Piece clicks with me. It only took me 20 years or so but I have to say that I'm happy because my persistence pays off.

My short history with One Piece, because why not:
-Started watching in 2002 the Greek Dub where Luffy was named Drake, Zoro was Blackjack, Nami was Bonney, Usopp was Gus, Sanji was Sunny and in general it was a clusterfuck of a translation.
-It really hooked me but the Greek Dub stopped at episode 106 so bye bye One Piece for me (or Drake, the Hunting of the Treasure, as it was the Greek name).
-Years pass and I was in high school when I learned the One Piece is still on going and actually it has a pretty big fan base. But by that point it had something like 800 episodes and I was like Nope, not gonna.
-But I have this itch you see and after more years I was like, "you know what? I want to watch it!" and I stopped at episode 15 I think because I was bored.
-Then I realized that I read faster that I can watch a 20-minute episode, so here we are.

Here I liked most of the book. Nami's backstory was great and the final pages were just awesome.

I love Namis story in the east blue saga a lot. And in this volume we get a lot of pay off with her back story finally revealed and the iconic ,,Help“ Moment.
The Art and panels were really great again especially on those last pages that set up the final confrontation with Arlong.

The Arlong Park arc continues as Luffy edges closer to Cocoyashi village in an attempt to get his ship and friends back. The story does a great job selling Arlong as the main villain. The cold monster is pure evil, always acting like his cruel acts are backed up by honor and pride. His hold on the island and its people deliver a new dynamic the overall story has yet to have. Usopp learns full well why Fishmen are not to be trifled with when he is captured by them. Zoro goes on a hunt for Usopp after breaking free of his captivity. The role reversal leads Usopp seeing Nami again, as she puts the reader into a panic with a shocking act. Luffy and Sanji finally arrive and we find out about Nami and her true reasons for being a thief as well as a pirate hater.

Nami's backstory, like Sanji's, is tragic and pulls the veil on Nami's well hidden feelings. You start to love her adoptive mother Bellemere and your hatred for Arlong only deepens. This back story is definitely one of the best in all One Piece. Just when you think Arlong could get any worse we see his villainy increase in the present as he holds Nami to a bargain she cant ever hope to escape. As hope fades all she can do is ask for help from the friends she betrayed. Luffy shows that charming friendship of his and ,without a single question, agrees. This powerful moment only strengthens the next volume.

This volume has action take a back seat, while exposition and backstory take the wheel. This in no way is boring or slows the arc. Nami's character is fleshed out greatly and the tyrant, Arlong, is built up to be hated and feared. Main and supporting characters hold this tightly weaved story in place and the reader is left hungry for more as Luffy heads for a showdown with the sinister Fishman!

¡ 5 estrellas ! . ¡Pedazo de historia en todo su esplendor ! .

Genial . MUY RECOMENDABLE.
