Luffy's navigator, Nami, has been working all along for "Saw-Tooth" Arlong to steal enough treasure to buy back her village. In return, the pirate has handed over her fortune to the Navy! Now Luffy and his crew prepare to risk their lives for Nami's sake against their most ruthless opponent yet.
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

"You made our navigator cry!" This is all the reason Luffy needs to pick a fight with the biggest threat in the East Blue! The fight begins in this thrilling volume, focusing on the individual fights of Zoro, Usopp, and Sanji. Each character gets their time in the spotlight.
Zoro's fight with Hachi shows how determined and strong the three style swordsman is. Sanji's fight with the Fishman Karate master, Kuroobi, lets the suave cook have a suspenseful battle under water. The final fight of the three, Usopp, is filled with laughs. The brutal nature of his opponent, Choo, leaves the liar bloody, but his determination serves a satisfying conclusion.
As the volume continues, Luffy finds himself in a sticky predicament. Arlong shows he does not care to play dirty, fully taking advantage of Luffy's weaknesses. After a nail biting wait for the Straw Hat captain, Luffy jumps in for a final showdown with the shark tooth warlord.
Volume 10 is a great action oriented installment. It shines the spotlight on Luffy's crew and the hardships they take in these fights. Seeing what they'll go through for a friend just gives these characters a real charm. By the end youll be scurrying to your book store for volume 11 and the conclusion to Arlong Park!
Luffy vs Arlong is cool as hell, but the other fights are far less notable. There is a trend in the first arcs where Luffy gets the cool fight and everybody else just gets the goofy sidekicks. I'm not a huge fan of that. Main character or not, he can't be the only one who has the decent fights.

I decided to read One Piece for the first time and document my experience on YouTube, starting with the entire East Blue saga: https://youtu.be/T_3DySjyRjk
A heavy action-packed volume filled with insane special moves by Luffy and his crew against Arlong and his crew. Some of them get a decent character development that leaves you proud of where they're at now in their pirate lives.
The fight doesn't end here and continues in the next volume, which is honestly, again, a very strange way to cut an arc.
Yeah, it took me 20 years and 10 volumes and I'm officially in love! Wow, so clever and charming and you can't but love Luffy! What a great protagonist, what a force of nature and of course all the side characters and his crew are great! On the other hand I'm happy that I waited this long because I don't need to wait for the next volume.
082: OK, Let's STAND UP! 083: Luffy in Black 084: Zombie 085: Three Swords vs. Six 086: Heroism vs. Fish-Man Cruelty 087: It's All Over!! 088: Die!!! 089: Trade-off 090: What Can You Do?
Arlong is such a dipshit. What a terrible, terrible fishman. I can't wait for Luffy to bash his face in. We finally got some answers on why Nami was with Arlong's crew. I love how every volume solidifies the relationship between the team.
For me, One Piece is best Manga ever written. The story always touch my heart, it is a combination of faithful friendship, laughter, loyalty and action. Some people might find this manga as silly and pointless (I’ve heard this before) but they never truly read the Manga and therefore judging it simply from the cover. I’ve been in that position too…and thank God I finally looked beyond the cover and found the greatest adventure any Mangaka ever written.
I didn't think I'd make it till Volume 10, I just picked up this manga randomly to give it a try and I've actually been enjoying it a lot. It's very entertaining, the characters are dumb and endearing lol, and the arcs move along pretty quickly. So definitely will continue reading it.
The questions and answer pages are annoying me tho 😒 I think I'll be skipping those from now on.
Arlong/Coco Town continues! And while I did love most of the battles, I didn't like Luffy this much given how easily he was out of the battle. It just felt silly and dumb. I wouldn't have minded a bit, but seriously, Zolo is just fighting despite his whole body almost tearing apart, Sanji is also kicking ass, and there is Luffy deep in the sea. And yes, it is a block of stone stuck to him, but did it really need to take almost all of the volume??? I hope that next volume we get to see more of Luffy fighting. Oh, and I was proud of Usopp for trying despite being afraid. And Nami for finding her resolve. Oh, and I just love the fighting names, some make me laugh though. XD
