When the dive team is called in to recover a body from a submerged car, they aren't prepared to find an encrypted laptop--or an unsettling connection between investigator Adam Campbell and the dead accountant.
Adam turns to his friend Dr. Sabrina Fleming--a professor at the local university with unparalleled computer security and forensics skills--to recover the files from the laptop. But the deeper they dig, the deadlier the investigation becomes. When evidence uncovers a human trafficking ring and implicates members of Adam's own family, he and Sabrina will have to risk everything to solve the case.
The truth could set hundreds free--but someone is willing to do whatever it takes to silence anyone who threatens to reveal their secrets. Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn invites readers back to Carrington, North Carolina, where everything is not as it seems and sinister elements lurk behind the idyllic façad
Another great one by Lynn Blackburn! I just loooove how she writes character dynamics and romance. Best part of her books for me. Looking forward to the next!
Adam being a simp for Sabrina really does it for me.
Page 30 - “Adam laughed. ‘You’re amazing.’”
Pg. 36 - “But he had it bad for Sabrina Fleming.”
Pg. 100 - “Oh, how he could get used to this. He would give anything to be able to hold her when things were good instead of only daring to when things were falling apart.”
Pg. 129 - “She was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.”
Pg. 234 - “‘I like talking about this. I’m utterly intrigued.’”
Y’all In Too Deep gripped me! When this happy piece of book mail arrived in my box, I couldn’t wait to read it. Of course, I had to wait until the kiddos went to sleep, but once they did I entered Carrington, North Carolina.
There is so much that goes on. Not just suspense wise. Not just romance wise. But let’s solve a crime that’s more complex than anything you can think of. I LOVED it!! I had to make myself go to bed at midnight–I have kids I must sleep–but I woke up extra early to finish and boy am I glad I did.
I did not see what was coming. I mean I knew something was coming because of the amount of pages left (thank goodness the back didn’t trick me with extras), I just didn’t know what. And when that what was revealed–whoo! All in all, I was happy with this read even more than I was with book 1, Beneath the Surface. And I eagerly await book 3!
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. My review was not required not influenced.
Wow! What a great addition to the series. I had high exceptions for this story after loving book #1 and it definitely lived up to it.
There’s so much action in this book which I loved. Sabrina, the main character, had to visit the hospital twice within 12 hours because of multiple attacks that were made on her. This book is definitely fast paced. ;) The mystery side of things was intriguing with the case of human trafficking. I absolutely love how everything fell into place towards the end and how they were able to put a stop to it. It was all very interesting and will keep you reading.
I fell in love with these characters in book #1 and I just loved getting to read about them all again. They are such a fun group of friends who always have each other’s backs. I’m definitely hoping to see a book about Gabe next. ;)
I have throughly enjoyed this series so far and I definitely recommend it!
*I received a free copy of this book from Revell in exchange of my honest review. All thoughts are my own.”
*Updating as I listened to this on audio and loved it just as much as the first time!*
This is such a great series! I recently read book one and was really excited to get to dive into book two right away.
I loved these two main characters. Adam had been in love with Sabrina for two years and it was so fun to watch her begin to realize it. Sabrina was a fun main character, who was a great combo of extremely smart and a bit clueless regarding social cues. But, it wasn't over the top clueless. She realized that sometimes she didn't pick up on every nuance of a social situation and it was fun to see her continue to open up to the group of friends she had made from book one. And she and Adam were perfect for each other. So sweet!
Once again, this book was a combination of great characters, love interests, friendships, and extreme danger and suspense. I loved it! I'm looking forward to reading book three.
"Are we solving a murder or analyzing my love life?"
A few of my favorite things are... -the playful teasing between the members of the team solving the mystery as well as their genuine care for each other. Overall, even the side characters were developed so well. -the faith elements. Especially when Sabrina is reminding Adam's father that it's not about how big his faith is, but how big the God his faith is in is. -the constant excitement...a car in a river with a dead body in it, a bomb, gunfire in a dressing room, occasional scenes from the villain's perspective. -that this story raises awareness of the reality of human trafficking -the fact that Adam and Sabrina were instantly attracted to each other, but by the time they're a 'thing' they have a solid two year friendship foundation
Know that... -there is kissing in this book. In my opinion they started kissing and cuddling a little too early in their relationship, but that's just personal preference. -it involves murders, violence and trafficking, but none of it was ever too detailed for me.
Perfect for... teens and adults looking for an exciting read!
In Too Deep was an amazing story! I found myself drawn into the story right away and I loved reading more about the characters. After reading the first book, Beneath the Surface, I was eager to continue the series and am so glad I did -- this one was even better!
The story starts off intense and doesn't slow down until the end. You never know if something is going to happen to the characters or not and I didn't want to put the book down. I loved the romance story...and how it felt realistic and sweet.
All in all, In Too Deep was awesome and I highly recommend it! I am eager to find a copy of book three so I can finish the series.

I'm here to tell you, don't start it unless you have time to read. I was up until one the first night and then one-thirty the next night! It is a gripping story and is one I should have read last year! This is the second book in the Dive Team Investigations and Lynn has done a masterful job on this suspenseful story. Right off the bat, I liked Adam. I mean, what's not to like? He's rich, handsome and caught between a rock and a hard place with his family and job as a detective. And Sabrina is so enduring. She reminded me of Dr. Temperance Brennan on Bones. Because of her family background, she had insulated herself from people, not letting them get close and had never developed a sense of how to do relationships. It was fun watching her come to the realization that Adam might like her.
The story will keep you on the edge of your seat as they uncover the reason the dead woman had written Adam's name on her stomach. And Blackburn will keep you guessing as you try to unravel the reason someone is out to kill Sabrina. This is a book I really enjoyed.
The second book of the Dive Team Investigation series features Detective Adam Campbell and Dr. Sabrina Fleming a professor of cybersecurity and computer forensics. Filled with twists, turns, and lots of red herrings, this suspense thriller kept me glued to my seat until I finished it. Never did see the final twist coming and hope a third book will both finish one thread that I felt wasn't totally completed and perhaps star Gabe and Anissa.
In Too Deep is the second book in the Dive Team Investigations series by Lynn H. Blackburn. I really enjoyed getting to know the members of the team better. This book focuses on Adam and Sabrina. Adam Campbell is from an influential family in Carrington, N. Carolina. He is an investigator for the local Police Department. Dr. Sabrina Flemming also comes from money and is an expert in computer forensics. They met on a case several years previous. This story revolves around a victim in a submerged car. Lisa Palmer tried to see Adam in an official capacity just days ago and now she is dead and it was anything but suicide. Sabrina Flemming is asked to see if she can uncover clues that are in Lisa’s laptop that was found in the car under water. Things get complicated when connections are made and Sabrina’s life is threatened multiple times. Can Adam, Sabrina and the team decipher the information before it’s too late? Are they In Too Deep for their own safety? I like the camaraderie and teasing of the characters. They have a close relationship with God that shows up in their everyday lives. This suspenseful book took me one day to read. It was interesting and engaging. Christian Romantic Suspense at it’s best. I am looking forward to the last book in this series. *I purchased this book from Amazon. All opinions are my own.*
This was a fascinating look at a problem that is still heartbreakingly real. I loved Sabrina and Adam's passion for those who truly needed help, and their relationship was precious.
Blackburn knocks it out of the ballpark with In Too Deep, book two in the Dive Team Investigations series!
To be honest, after being a bit disappointed by book one, Beneath the Surface, I didn't have very high expectations for this one. But Blackburn exceeded those expectations and then some!
From page one, I fell in love with the main characters, Investigator Adam Campbell and Dr. Sabrina Fleming. Both of them are such strong, well-rounded, realistic characters on their own, and together, they are simply fabulous. As I observed in Beneath the Surface, Blackburn's background characters are pure gold. Gabe Chavez is always great for lightening the tension with his epic sense of humor, but I also enjoyed seeing his more serious side in this book, and I am looking forward to seeing more of him and Anissa in book three. It was also good to hear from Ryan and Leigh again. The interactions and relationships between the entire dive team are just awesome.
The story itself moves along very quickly and there is no lack of suspense and edge-of-your-seat moments. The story takes an interesting and unexpected turn near the end that leaves you guessing. Unfortunately, I guess the villain very early on in the story, so that ruined a bit of the suspense for me, but I was still able to enjoy the story. The main subject - human trafficking - is a subject very near to my heart, so I found that aspect very interesting. I appreciated how Blackburn didn’t go into too many nitty-gritty details, yet still accurately portrayed the atrocity of modern day slavery. The romance was very sweet and clean, which, not being a fan of the romance in the first book, I greatly appreciated. Blackburn also has a very laid back and casual writing style which I am not typically fond of, but I appreciated it in a setting like this one.
Overall, I greatly enjoyed In Too Deep, and this one is going on my favorites shelf! If you are looking for an fast-paced suspense read with a sweet romance and fabulous characters, then this one is for you.
Content Advisory: Mentions of labor trafficking and the sex trade, although not in detail. A murder, an attempted murder, and mentions of an illegitimate child. As for the romance aspect, nothing went beyond the occasional kiss.
FTC disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not required to write a positive review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.
For anyone who read Beneath the Surface last year, that sneak peek at In Too Deep definitely left you ready for it’s release! Good news for us all!! The wait is over.
While the entire team works together to solve what initially could be labeled a suicide, the focus is on Adam, the white collar crimes investigator with a family everyone in Carrington knows and Sabrina, an intelligent professor who helps the team with all things online.
Sabrina is adorable naïve when it comes to picking up nuances with body language and, sometimes, verbal hints. While she’s a genius, her social interaction make her likable. Adam’s got some issues with his family but when it push comes to shove, they love each other.
Lynn H. Blackburn brings these characters to life within the pages. From their interactions with each other—the banter is great—to their professional positions, each person in this group has a unique personality. And then there is the added suspense—and oh, boy, is there a lot of it in this new release with plenty of twists and turns (a couple resulting in a few trips to Leigh’s emergency department).
I loved catching up with Leigh and Ryan and getting to know Sabrina and Adam better. Next up, Gabe (and I’m hoping Anissa as I feel like things have been brewing between them for two books).I have a feeling Blackburn is saving the best for last.

In Too Deep is about my favorite couple of the first book of the Dive Team Investigations, so I was very happy and excited about that. Just like the first book, the action was intense and the romance was just waiting for a quite moment to bloom (plus, another couple I've been shipping since the first book seem to be finally hinting at a future romantic relationship...), and the stakes are high as ever. My only real complaint is that the book is just so sad. The hero's backstory is sad (and he's my favorite character, so that's unacceptable), and the heroine's entire life is sad. I mean, I suppose it's realistic to life, especially dealing with the heavy content that it does, but, still, it made me... sad.
Still, I love the characters and look forward to reading further in the series and watching the next romance bloom (especially if it's that one couple I've been shipping since book one....).
I received a complimentary copy from the author, and the thoughts and opinions are my own.
This second book of the Dive Team Investigations series was even stronger than the first. The crime was interesting and seemed more realistic than the crime in the first novel. Continuing to enjoy the cast of six main characters.
I really enjoyed this book and the author’s style seemed to improve over the first one. Plausible plot with spiritual applications throughout and the ending was not predictable.
This second installment in the Dive Team Investigations series was every bit as good as the first, and possibly a little better. First of all, I was prepared for Ms. Blackburn’s style of writing, so I wasn’t disappointed in trying to compare it to someone else’s. However, I enjoyed the overall storyline a little better than the first. Adam and Sabrina were two of my favorite characters in the last book, so I was really looking forward to their story.
I loved Sabrina with her total nerdy-ness and the way she was oblivious to so many guys’ attention. Adam was also great! Such a gentleman, and just an all ’round good guy. I really enjoyed the portrayal of their spiritual growth. It wasn’t really overt, but I would say it was a pretty steady thread throughout.
The mystery was fascinating and was really well developed. The theme of human trafficking and modern day slavery was so good, and brought out some good points that might not be common knowledge. Sex-trafficking is mentioned incidentally, but absolutely no details.
Sabrina’s backstory with her parents was really good as well, and the resolution of it all was quite satisfying. *Spoiler. There is a part of it that involves infidelity in marriage End of Spoiler.
All in all a really good book, and I’m giving it 5 out of 5 stars!!!
*Disclaimer: I received a copy of this ebook from Revell via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This is one of those books that "wows" right from the start. Characters fully developed and great interaction between characters enable them to move flawlessly through the story line.
The chemistry between the male and female protagonists is strong and sweet. This is a clean, squeaky clean, read but it still has those moments of heart enveloping romance. Again, squeaky clean.
The mystery or suspense that is discovered by the team of investigators becomes more and more convoluted as they discover bits and pieces in their trail leading to a solution to why the lady in the submerged van was murdered.
Living in North Carolina this story hits home as we see many people from other lands serving in hotels, spas, nail parlors and working the farms and restaurants. The investigative team delves into the computers and other evidence using forensic skills uncovering layer upon layer of information that leads to a solution of not just the murder but other criminal activity.
A story that keeps the reader mentally and emotionally engaged; turning the pages discovering more and more in this deep dive into a shady side of life in North Carolina.
I received a complimentary copy from Revell Publishing to facilitate this review. Opinions are mine alone and are freely given.
Lynn Blackburn takes us into book 2 in her Dive Team Investigations series with this offering and it's quite a good ride, too! Investigator Adam Campbell is called to the scene of a car submerged in a lake and there is a very cryptic clue on the victim. All the team have is her laptop and a few flash drives. Enter Dr. Sabrina Fleming, who is a crazy good computer forensics expert and professor. Between them and other members of the team, they hope to solve this crime quickly. However, soon Adam's family is implicated and both Adam and Sabrina have attempts made on their lives. What has the victim discovered that someone wants to keep hidden so badly that they want to murder again to keep that from happening?
Deftly told, Blackburn immerses (pun intended) her readers into the action from the very beginning and keeps them occupied until the very last page is turned. I couldn't wait to finish it. Now I look forward to the next in the series very much. Highly recommended.
*My thanks to the publisher and author for a preview copy of this book. My opinion is entirely my own.
This is the first novel I've read by Lynn H. Blackburn but it won't be the last. This riveting suspense grabbed my attention from the opening scene and didn't let go until the final satisfying page. Although I had not read the previous book in this series, I had no trouble connecting with and caring about the well-drawn characters. Adrenaline-laced scenes fraught with danger kept me rapidly turning pages as Adam and Sabrina desperately attempt to stay a step ahead of the perpetrator. Cyber forensics, human trafficking, and a well-paced romance interlace in this multi-faceted story. Blackburn perfectly juxtaposes organic elements of relational humor with high-stakes drama, taking the reader on a roller coaster of emotions. In Too Deep will keep you on the edge of your seat. Don't miss it!

With this story, Lynn Blackburn has become my newest auto buy author! I am loving this series, and I can’t wait for the next book, One Final Breath, which comes out on September 3rd! This team has such great camaraderie and the mysteries are so well done. There’s always a perfect amount of action, enough to keep you on your toes, but not so much that it becomes unbelievable. And, the touches of humor are perfect! I love it when authors have the ability to throw in much needed humor in the middle of some serious and tragic happenings. The faith that is sprinkled throughout is perfectly placed and so real.
Adam and Sabrina are perfect together! Sabrina’s very logical thoughts and responses cracked me up more than a few times. I also enjoyed catching up with Ryan and Leigh and seeing more of Gabe and Anissa - their story is next! If you love great romantic suspense, this is your author!
This story is jam-packed with fast-paced action and laced with just enough swoony attraction to keep that heart rate up throughout! I love the teammate co-worker/friends dynamic connecting the half dozen main and secondary characters. Inner workings of the investigation are fascinating, not lost in technical jargon or lengthy procedures. Human trafficking elements are always hard to read in a story yet I’m thankful for the increased awareness of this ever-present evil.
I highly recommend this series and look forward to reading the final installment of the Dive Team Investigations series soon!
I purchased this book. The opinions expressed are my own.
You know that moment when you reach the end of a really good book and you have the sudden urge to charge up the highest mountaintop with a megaphone in hand so you can holler out a proclamation of epic proportion about a not-to-be-missed book? Because you just can't stand the thought of somebody missing out because they might not know about it? Well, that's me right now over In Too Deep.
Serious reader nirvana magic. Especially if you are a romantic suspense lover! And if you favour quirky heroines and quietly intense heroes and awesome team dynamics and a complicated suspense that's layered with intrigue and danger and all things sinister.
So we have Sabrina who is adorably literal -- brilliant scientific mind, a technology whiz but not able to navigate normal social cues. Love the way the team accepts her and how patient and understanding Adam is of her unconventional ways. He's been in love with her practically since the day he met her but he's so cautious and a little bit bumbling which makes him great fodder for lots of good-natured ribbing from his friends. And then crazy happens and suddenly emotions are heightened and how can he not say something while he still has a chance?! Phew!!! These two together are sweet and amusing with a sizzling side of toe-curling!
And I love the way Blackburn has included a strong inspirational thread throughout the story. It flows naturally from the faith of each team member and brings a spiritual focus to the tough subject matter.
"...it's not about how big our faith is. What matters is how big our God is."
In Too Deep was impossible to put down yet I was reluctant to reach the end. The kind of novel you love because it's glorious and you hate because it doesn't last forever.
I received this book from the publisher Revell through the first reviewer program for my honest and unbiased thoughts.
The blurb sounded good:
“When the dive team is called in to recover a body from a submerged car, they aren't prepared to find an encrypted laptop--or an unsettling connection between investigator Adam Campbell and the dead accountant. Adam's team calls in Dr. Sabrina Fleming, a cybersecurity and computer forensics expert.”
This book has an interesting premise and it started just fine but things went south and fell apart not long into it. What I thought was a mystery surely wasn’t... where was the suspense? In my books, “In Too Deep” is more of a Christian romantic fiction than anything else and a soft one at that.
This should have been an exciting read but it was far from it. First, the two protagonists Adam and Sabrina had a thing for each other but never let on and this feeling went on well over the 1/3 of the book. Yuk, I was starting to get impatient. After all, wasn’t this supposed to be a mystery with suspense and some action….no no no, not for over 100 pages. Then here came the “God-ism” and prayers, the religious connotations are quite superfluous and just plainly cut into the flow of what could have been a good story. Although Ms. Blackburn did not over do this it was still bothersome. The plot had many holes and simply did not come across as realistic. Sabrina came up with answers based on what; there were neither explanations nor real investigation. The main characters were not bad players they were just too bland for my taste….The last few chapters brought some suspense and were captivating although it ended in what I would call a romantic dream…..awe…..“In Too Deep” is not a bad book at all. The story simply was not my cup of tea but it may be yours…
This book needs to be categorized as Christian fiction. Or, to be even more accurate, Christian romantic mystery. I read it thinking it was a regular mystery thriller, and it wasn't. Normally, this wouldn't really be a big deal, but in this case it was, and I'll explain why.
The book started out with an interesting premise. A woman is found having driven off a bridge and been killed. When Detective Adam Campbell and his dive team investigators are assigned to the case, they find suspicious circumstances -- it's possible the woman was actually killed before being placed in the car, and she was an accountant for a number of high-powered people. Adam's team calls in Dr. Sabrina Fleming, a cybersecurity and computer forensics expert.
Here's where things start to fall apart. First of all, Adam and Sabrina have a little history. They have been friends for a long time, but Adam has always had a thing for Sabrina and never let on, and Sabrina has always had a thing for Adam but never let on. This is all fine, no problem. But for over 100 pages, the book is basically just delving into this non-relationship relationship. I thought I was supposed to be reading a mystery thriller. The plot made almost no progress in the first 100 pages. But I was feeling generous. I realized I was actually reading a romantic mystery. Ok, I like romantic mysteries, I just had my expectations wrong. So no problem, let's keep going.
Now there are plot problems. Sabrina comes up with the wildest conclusions based on almost no evidence. She baffles those around her, and then she won't explain how she came up with her conclusions. I think the author intends for her to come across as some sort of eccentric genius (especially since she can't read people well), but it just comes across feeling preposterous. The plot feels as if it's written by someone who has zero experience in police work, computer forensics, or criminal investigation. It doesn't feel real or realistic.
Now to what I said at the beginning -- the fact that it bothers me that this is Christian fiction and not billed as such. Why did it bother me? Because the author just throws in random character thoughts about God and prayer, and it feels gratuitous, like she felt obligated to throw these things in in order to keep it Christian. Whereas other authors' books may include gratuitous sex, this book includes gratuitous "God-isms," and I find it off-putting and almost offensive. And I'm Christian. The religious references aren't preachy, but they simply don't fit, are superfluous, and should just be edited out. They disrupt the flow of the writing, so what's the point?
So with all the above problems, by the time I got to page 106 I started skimming really fast. I didn't want to read any more, but I was obligated to finish the book because I received an ARC. To be fair to the publisher and the author, I needed to read the whole thing before giving it a review. But it was difficult for me to finish; I really disliked the book, and it was all the more disappointing because it had so much potential.
I loved being back with this team, and saying hello again to old friends, but this can be read alone, but once you devour this one you will want to read the first book in this series. It didn’t take long to become completely immersed in this mystery, and page-turning to find answers. I changed my mind a few times as to what was going on. But loved the strong faith of the main characters, and with all that was happening and going on they lived their faith in God. If you enjoy a really good, action packed story this is one you don’t want to miss, it also includes some really sweet romance, and love for fellow man. I hope that there will be another book in this series!
I received this book through Revell Reads Blogger Program, and was not required to give a positive review.
DNF. I was really excited for a diving-based crime series as a recreational diver and Bruno, Phryne Fisher, Lecter fan. Cliched writing and too many mentions of God and faith made me drop it.
This one is so sad! Don’t get me wrong - it is an EXCELLENT book - but heartbreakingly sad and redemptive and ultimately full of healing and a pair of swoon-worthy protagonists. ;) Here’s hoping there’ll be more books in this series VERY soon!
