After their plan to take down Big Mom ends in failure, the Straw Hats find themselves on the run. With an angry Big Mom nipping at their heels, things are not looking good. And Luffy’s stuck in a one-on-one fight against one of Big Mom’s strongest sons!
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Another fun saga as the fight against Big Mom and Katakuri continues! Very clever move by Sanji, although I'll be happy to be done with the sweet food references by the conclusion... onwards and upwards to the next crazy adventure with Luffy & gang!
As the SBS brings up, perfection is boring. There are no perfect characters in One Piece. Katakuri got a lot more interesting as his flaws were revealed as well.
This was a pretty good volume and while they are on the run from Big Mom whose getting slim and by the end powers up, its both like a comedy and a thrill to see them escape and make the deadline while SANJI prepares the cake and in other place in the mirror-verse we have Luffy fighting Katakuri, like facing his own match and its an intriguing fight and we learn more about the latter. The volume is a combination of laugh out loud moments, part food humor and all. Also that moment between Chiffon and her father was so cool. Emotional for sure.
First : I really like Bege and Chiffon as a couple. I don't know how, but Oda managed to give me several couples that I like in this arc and I appreciate it. I also love a lot of characters here? First and for foremost Katakuri who is both an awful person and an awesome brother? Chiffon is just great, Brulée is fun and a total fangirl for Katakuri which I think is sweet. Chiffon's dad is very touching. I could go on. the level of detail is really impressive. I also appreciate how Luffy is smart about his fight while staying himself. He understands that Katakuri is using his haki to avoid being touched by Luffy's attacks. Luffy is okay to flee the fight for a bit so he can come back stronger. Lots of things to like really. And seeing Jinbei and Carrot showing great skills is also nice. I like that everyone gets moments to shine and they are not all about being good at punching people??? All the crew has different strength and they are all needed to make it through all the adventures Luffy pulls them into.
Pues no ¿Pero y qué?
Volume 88: Chapter 880-889 Saga 9: Whole Cake Island Arc 29: Whole Cake Island
Jinbe shows his skills as a helmsman by escaping from the wave. They will meet Sanji at Cacao Island at 1 am in the morning. The cake is done and they will deliver the cake at sea. Charlotte Oven interfered. Fire Tank Pirates arrived at the dock. Pound helped them to escape.
Thousand Sunny was surrounded by the whole fleet of Big Mom Pirates and there is no escape. During the full moon, Carrot changed into Sulong Mode and destroy the Big Mom Pirates fleets. Brook also joined to destroyed the fleet.
Luffy fights againts Katakuri and its getting intense. Luffy knows that he cannot hits Katakuri as he can see the future. Katakuri also already awakened his devil fruit. Katakuri's Armament Haki cannot withstand Luffy's Gear 4. Luffy knows that he can achieved advancement of Haki if he fights a powerful person.
Luffy and the rest of the crew have split up in order to get away from Whole Cake Island, but their many battles against the Big Mom pirates may be more than they can bear! Oda will shock, charm, and shake readers with this entry to the "One Piece" series. Everybody has a role to play, and some are going to have to reveal their more dangerous sides in order to survive!
The scene that Pound tried to serve Chiffon is impressing. Although Chiffon doesn’t know about Pound is her father, Pound wanted to serve his daughter and son. The title of this chapter “Somewhere, Someone is Wishing for Your Happiness” is much to this story. He was smiling at the last. I felt a little bit lonely.

Holy hell this was a great volume. Aww and pound so sad. Love how this arc is showcases how dangerous the Straw Hats can be. Not because of there abilities but how they can make allies out of nearly everyone they meet.
The clock’s ticking down as Big Mom approaches the Sunny. Luffy’s still fighting Katakuri to keep him away from his friends while Sanji, Pudding and Chiffon have to bake a cake to appease Mom’s hunger. Big Mom’s constant chasing and screaming was starting to get old but then the various disconnected subplots start working together to build a great sense of tension as she gets closer and closer to wiping out the heroes.
The volume makes you think things are going in their favour. Luffy starts to work out how he can win his fight and starts to ramp things up. Carrot reveals her terrifying secret talent to thin out the Big Mom fleet. Sanji creates a cake so delicious that it can actually be used as a weapon. But then it all goes off the rails right at the end when Big Mom appears and shows off some horrifying new powers.
The action in this volume is so-so - Katakuri’s powers aren’t all that exciting and Carrot’s escapades are quite hard to follow (though that may have been the intention given how fast she’s moving and how the enemy have trouble processing her) but there’s a lot of great character moments. Sanji gets to show off his cooking skills which usually get a bit overlooked since they usually can’t factor into fights, and it’s great that his passion gets to play a big part in the climax. This also triggers some humorous reactions from Pudding, who’s more consistently funny in the volume compared to the previous one. Surprisingly, the highlights of this volume come from Chiffon’s family. Bege gets to show his papa bear side and Pound of all people gets some tragic development and backstory. He was a goofy background character before but he really comes into his own in this volume.
Hmmm... I'm not sure how I feel about this arc by this point. That is, it's definitely great, but the "problem" is I can't tell if I like it better than Dressrosa. The thought that keeps popping into my head is that Dressrosa is better than WCI but WCI better approaches the heights of pre-timeskip... which doesn't make sense because necessarily WCI would then be "better than" Dressrosa... right!? I guess the idea is that Dressrosa is too reminiscent of Alabasta, so I like it because I love Alabasta, but I appreciate WCI more for being more original...? Anyway, I'm pretty sure we're approaching the climax, and/or we're already there. I spoiled myself a bit because I knew about , and I wanted to know when it happened, and I saw it will occur next volume, so I imagine that's when the main Katakuri battle will end. Oh, and, plus, I'm pretty sure I know in a later arc, so....
****
I don't remember if I said before, but I'd do Praline, no lie.
Big Mom's "GIMME THAT CAAAAKE" reminds me of myself whenever I see Smoothie...!
Poor Brulee used and abused as a method of transportation all arc. It's funny because I first saw her in Film Red, which is set afterward (but non-canon), where she was pretty much just used for transportation as well.
I'd make a joke about the "sweet cream," but everyone in the comments on Manga Plus already beat me to it.
“When someone is hungry, I feed them? That’s what a cook does!”
Luffy being in the mirror world was stressful. My heart broke when he told the crew that he can’t focus on the fight if there were still mirrors on the ship because he would worry about their safety. But I’m glad that nami took charge in making sure the mirrors were broken I wonder how he is going to get back. Him putting the glass in his mouth to make sure they didn’t realize he was sending one last message to his crew was determination. When that huge wave came up, I was so scared! But Jimbei stepped up and saved them!
Watching Luffy fight the mochi man is so interesting. They have such similar powers so the battle kept me on my toes. Luffy wanting to make sure that the mochi man was at his best because he didn’t want to beat him at his weakest is such a Luffy move. Oda really knows how to make sure his character actually stay in character. Another example was when Sanji refused to put poison in the cake. Bege was right in the sense that this is their one chance to kill Big Mom. But Sanji is staying true to his character.
Thoughts like reading:
- Damnnn just by scent? Sanji is crazyyy - NOOOOOOOO THIS IS BAD - YOU TELL THEM NAMI - Yesss we love the faith Sanji - I loveeee Nami’s sweater dress - W Rizz Sanji - Chip world is so funny - DAMNNN WITH ONE LEG? Okay Sanji - NOOO I feel bad for him he just wanted to see his daughter - Carrot??? LETS GO - Yo W Rizz from Sanji once again
Bege’nin "Chiffon’a gidiyoruz" demesine de bayıldım.

they're all gonna rendezvous at cacao island at 1am.
HAHAHHAHA katakuri's image was totally destroyed after this.
to get his wife back, bege willingly docked and faced big mom's people.
pound (lola and chiffon's dad) helped bege and chiffon escape while his stepson was going to kill him from behind.
the sunny was faced with a line of big mom's ships and carrot said to leave it to her because tonight's a full moon. pedro trained carrot to transform into sulong form. this is the true form of the minks. she electric-shocked big mom's people. a mink unable to control the sulong form would die if they tire themselves out by fighting throughout the night. brook went out to help carrot.
afterwards, they returned to the sunny. while fighting big mom, sunny was badly damaged and they managed to capture zeus for nami.
Volume 88 of One Piece continues with Big Mom chasing the Straw Hats. The endpoint of the volume puts the Straw Hats into a serious predicament. Luffy wants to fight Katakuri at his full strength since that is how Haki powers truly grow.
Oda reveals that Katakuri isn't invincible, but his Color of Observation Haki is so refined that he reforms his body to avoid injury. If Katakuri isn't calm, cool, and collected he can't use his superior Haki abilities.
Big Mom attacks one of her islands. Jinbei knows how to read the waves. Carrot helps out by turning in a Sulong; it's a werewolf-esque power that any Mink accesses with a gaze at the Full Moon.
Meanwhile, Linlin is getting thin. It has been so long since her pangs started that she's losing weight. Also, the Big Mom Pirates don't trust the cake Sanji made.
Thanks for reading my review, and see you next time.
