But Kaine’s gruff demeanor doesn’t scare her. She’s set on living in Montana and starting over after a terrible divorce. And she wouldn’t mind having a fling to chase away the pain of her husband’s betrayal. Her handsome, albeit rude, neighbor is the perfect candidate.

Devney Perry's Lark Cove series just gets better and better with each book. Tragic is a fantastic read that hit me right in the feels. I loved it.

Piper Campbell is a recently divorced New-Yorker moving to Montana for a fresh start. She loves her job and finds a great place to live that just needs a little work. The only thing wrong with the place... the neighbor. Kaine is grouchy, but  Piper can tell there is so much more to him than that. Kaine has pain. The kind that is deep. Even as these two become 'friends', it's something he never opens up about.

Kaine's story broke my heart. It truly did. I can't imagine going through something like he went through. I loved that he found Piper. Someone he could be himself with. Someone who made him want to try again, want to be more. My favorite part of this story was watching him start to open up and start to heal.
“I don’t want to be reminded of you in pain.”
“And I want you to always remember that you saved me.”

Piper was one of those characters you couldn't help but to love. I adored her. She was understanding, compassionate, and strong. Kaine was a broken man who never knew he could find the right person to put him back together. I love that these two were healing for one another. They were each the missing pieces to each others hearts.

This book had an interesting plot, the writing was wonderful, and it gave me all the feels I need in a book. I love emotional stories, and this was heavy without being too much. It made me cry, but also gave me hope and by the end I had a big smile on my face. Kaine and Piper's book was great. I'm looking forward to reading more in this series!

This was so good!?!? I've only read a couple of DP's books and both of them didn't have spice scenes start till the middle or so, so I was VERYYYY surprised to see them go at it a few chapters in 😂

Not mad about it though 😙

I read it as a standalone aka haven't read the other books in the series.

Made predictions while I read (and they were all correct, 20 points to me) so you'll end up with a trope you didn't see coming, but I loved it!!

It's a heartwarming story and I loved their chemistry!! Super enjoyable read for me

Loved it! Can I get a Kaine ready to go, please?

Kaine Reynolds and Piper Campbell are retreating into their corner of the woods in hopes that living in solitary will help them hide or recover from their personal tragedy. That is until they laid eyes on each other and start getting it on. One thing leads to another. And buckle up ladies, bcs these two are about to shake your world!

I swear this series just keeps getting better with each book. Tragic creeped into my heart like a thief and stole it. I couldn’t get on board with our main leads jumping into ‘casual’ soon after their meeting. But everything else about their relationship had me all emotional and so close to tears. I loved my mountain man. Piper is just as amazing of a character. Each of them have a past tainting their souls, and they bring back light into each other. Watching them heal together was nothing short of beautiful.

The setting is perfect. Honestly, it’s my dream life. Something about living in the mountains and so close to nature is so alluring and peaceful. One special aspect that carries on in this standalone series is the exceptional depiction of friendship and familial bond. I’m talking about main characters from the series making an appearance in each other’s book. It always warms my heart. If you want a book that will tug at your heartstrings, characters that have battles with their demons and come out on top, and a slow burn, this book is it!

TRAGIC: Is the third full length romance novel in Denver Perry’s ‘Lark Cove’ series. Each book within the series can be read as a standalone, though they do have carry on characters which appear in each book. Spoken in ‘Dual Perspectives.

Woodworking Kaine is just wanting the simplicity and the solitary lifestyle his wee cabin in the woods outside of the township 'Lark Cove' offers him. The last thing he wants is a neighbour that in a matter of days destroys the peaceful daylight hours he craves to work on his creations in his workshop.

Thirty-two year old Divorcee Piper has given up her apartment in Manhattan and is the new comer to town and has found the perfect place to set down roots, a wee bit of demolition and her home will be perfect. What she didn’t encounter on was her handsome grumpy neighbour.

Some peace. The quiet forest. A project to throw myself into headfirst. And maybe a hot, sweaty fling with my grouchy, soon-to-be-next-door neighbour. He had no strings attached sex written all over his handsome face.

A sadness shrouded thirty-three year old Kaine like a cloak, a recluse who rarely left the mountainside. He didn't need the complication of Piper. He was happy wallowing in his own space without his nosy neighbour encroaching on his solitaire lifestyle.

These two were a match just waiting to be ignited, he was always abrupt and rude but when ever she was in his proximity something sizzled between them and a calmness overcame him. Both were closed off to companionship of the opposite sex, both needed to heal, to learn to love again, to trust again, to deal with their heartbreak and pain, together they helped each other in their own backwards ways.

A slow burn, unique, beautiful, heartfelt, story that gripped me from the get go. There's no better match than these two characters, she brought lightness to his darkness and magic when he needed it the most, they were just perfect together, a part they were a mess.

“What I needed was her. I wanted her to have all my pieces, even the ugly, misshapen ones.”

True to its name, Tragic was nothing if not tragic, heartbreaking, and painful and as a masochist I loved every second of it. The story is achingly beautiful and heartwarming as much as it's gut-wrenching. I had no hopes in this series but this book revived my love for Devney's novel.

Tragic is a story about two broken people, Kaine and Piper. The story started off with a very heartbreaking prologue, and I knew that this book is going to make me ugly cry and it did (many fucking times). The story is fast paced and that's what makes it much more interesting. There is an undercurrent mystery about Kaine and why he is hiding in a cabin alone from the world and it only adds more to his character and the story.

“When you were broken, breaking others wasn’t all that difficult.”

Devney's writing really improved in this book. There was more depth in characters and their past and how it shaped them in the present scenario. The romance was done so perfectly in this, despite it being a insta-lust/love.

➸ Piper Campbell

Piper is just coming out of a nasty divorce and is now trying to build a new life for herself in Lake Cove. She's fierce, relentless, thoughtful and a selfless woman. Piper is all about her passion for work, family and love. Piper is a nuturer through and through. She wanted kids but that's not in the cards for her and I liked how precisely Devney handled this topic. I loved her character from the get-go. She's a closed off person like Kaine and doesn't know how to let out those feelings, but I liked how she came out of it all. Her character growth throughout the book was amazing. I liked how she drove Kaine insane because she's just won't take his bullshit. I love a woman who knows her worth and won't let anyone step over her.

“I might have saved him, but he completed me.”

➸ Kaine Reynolds

I have a thing for broken heroes. The grumpiest man who had a tragic allure to him, that screamed pain, sorrow and loss. Kaine has been living alone in a cottage in the middle of woods for three years after the tragedy that broke him into pieces. He's s very closed off person, he doesn't talk to anyone only Piper (he was a goner for her the moment he saw her), he came across as rough, cold and arrogant man but behind all that façade is just a very caring, shy and soft-hearted person who's also a dumbass sometimes because he is very bad at communicating his feelings and emotions. Kaine took a lot of the time to actually talk about his past with Piper and as much as it was frustrating, it was also reasonable because he was running away from it instead of grieving and feeling it and no one had ever asked him about his loss for three years until Piper.

“When he was in the room, I wasn’t the loneliest person there. He was.”

╰┈➤ Piper and Kaine

Piper and kaine did not started off well. They hated each other but also felt the pull and chemistry they had. It was kind of insta-lust which transitioned into love and it was done so well. They went from being friends with benefits to friends to lovers. The casual-no-strings-attached-just-awesome-sex between neighbours did not turned out well because they knew how much they felt for each other and the emotional connection between them was potent and tangible to ignore it just keep it all casual. They both were broken beyond repair and they healed each other with their patience, love and care. I loved how they cherished each other and how careful they were with each other's past and heart. They didn't talked about their broken past until it felt right to them and I liked how they also didn't rushed the other to confess everything but just waited for the other to confided in each other and trust them with it. They grieved the loss of the life they both were supposed to have together but they did it at their own pace and I loved it.

He sighed and relaxed, the weight of his neck and head on my thighs. Of their own volition, my fingers found their way into his silky, dark hair.
“I can’t feel anything.” Kaine’s eyes held mine. “But I can feel you.”
“I feel you too,” I whispered.

The surprise pregnancy was an unexpected shocking thing in this book and I was scared that it was going to destroy this book, but Devney handled it perfectly. Somehow, it was also needed for both Piper and Kaine's growth and for them to move on from their past and the fears related to it to find something new and beautiful and healing.

“It’s going to be okay,” I promised. Then I took her face in my hands and gazed at her beautiful face. The face that started and ended my day.
“We’ve got a lifetime of magic left.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because it was never the cake.” I brushed my lips against hers. “The magic is us.”

The ending was perfect. There was a lot of drama and painful moments and I liked how everything was handled from Kaine forgiving his brother to giving his family another chance for redemption. I also loved the epilogue. It was just wholesome and everything I needed after all the pain and hurt this book put me through. Kaine being a daddy was the sweetest thing in this book. I can't wait to read Isaiah's book! I already know it's gonna be one of the best redemption arc and I am here for it.

I loved this book!!!! I was up until 3am reading it, even though I should have been in bed!!! Kaine and Piper were a couple whom I became fully invested in right from the start! They both had pasts that were hindering them from enjoying a full life; but Kaine’s past was full on Tragic... I cried for him... and I understood why he had walls ten feet high erected around his heart. When Piper came into his life, those walls began to crumble... but believe me when I say that they fell down extremely slow.

I have always had a harder time loving the heroine in any story... but Piper was hard to feel any kind of negativity towards. She brought life into this story and into Kaine’s world! Watching them fall in love was such a beautiful thing!!

The Lark Cove series is a heartwarming one, although I found the second book to be just ok. Devney Perry created an amazing story for this third instalment and has breathed life back into this series with Tragic! It was an all out feel good, emotional read and I highly recommend it!

Thanks Steph for letting me butt into your reading time to Buddy Read with you!!!❤️

This is going to be a rant because I don't know how to rate this book.

On one hand, yes I really liked Piper. She was interesting, different and a newly introduced character to the universe that held her ground and left behind her old life to move to Montana.

But the guy, well…. Honestly his past was sad. I get why he is sad but some things were off and made me uncomfortable.

For one, his anger. He kept having these outbreaks and I am going to be honest, I would not trust him around children, especially with how he acted in that one scene.
Second Piper annoyed me as soon as this side of him came out because instead of telling him to get help, she goes "he just needs to hear my voice and listen to me and he will calm down".
Y/N energy at its finest and I cannot believe that she actually was okay to be with him after he ran. TWICE.

Next, there was a really prominent and relevant issue that kills a lot of people every year but it was not handled in a good way. I get the entire forgive but not forget concept but it made absolutely no sense how this issue was handle. It made no fuckin sense at all and I am getting mad writing this review.

He decided to do it. He made the decision. That is not easily forgivable is at all.

This is definitely my favorite book in the series! We have a damaged and grumpy hero who is immediately angry with the heroine. She just moved in next door and is renovating her cabin in a small town. The two start a friends with benefits situation that definitely turns into something more. The heroine is divorced and is trying to move on, and she definitely set her sights on her new neighbor. This was an emotional romance and I just loved their connection and healing they found with each other.

This read deserves more than 5 stars! It deserves all the magic stars!

I love a wonderful happy ever after and this one is sitting at the top of my favorites list! If ever there was a character, a hero nonetheless, that needed a happy ending it is Kaine. His journey was heartbreaking and gut clinching. I cried over his loss but I sobbed with happiness over his ultimate triumph of a past that had left him broken.

My first bit of advice is to go into this book with as little knowledge of the plot as possible. It makes the unfolding of the story all the more wonderful as you’re pulled from not having a clue into “Oh my gosh!” I personally love when that happens.

Kaine has lived alone on the mountain for three years and he was perfectly fine with the isolation.

description

That’s the way he prefers it. But when his new neighbor, Piper, blows into his life his quiet solitude is shattered. In more ways than the noise coming from next door.

Piper’s feisty personality is the perfect counter point to Kaine’s broody, grouchy attitude. When these two get together things get explosive.

description

Their dynamic was by far the most enjoyable I’ve read in a while and their chemistry is off the charts. However, she has her own issues she’s struggling with. It takes time and self-reflection but she’s working on putting her own past behind her.

How these two work through their enemies-to-lovers-to-who-the-heck-knows is filled with so many ups and downs. I was gobbling every word up as quickly as I could because slowly absorbing them is what rereads are for. Besides, I needed to see Kaine get his HEA and along with him, Piper.

description

I couldn’t fathom how this author was going to bring this about. But as I mentally jumped ahead to fill in all the blanks and questions with my own answers based on your average romances, I was once again surprised how Devney Perry didn’t use the old tried and true but brought a fresh twist to a well-used trope.

There is a lot of magic in this book, just not the kind you’re probably imagining.

I absolutely loved every single thing about this story. The characters, both new and revisited, the location, the heat between the hero and heroine, and the sheer perfection of that often sought Happy Ever After.

I read this awhile ago but I recently did a quick re-read and I liked it as much if not more than the first time.

There's not much I can say because I don't wanna do a plot recap and spoil anything.

I really liked the premise of the story and how our leads meet.

I loved the heroine which is a big plus for me. The hero was also ok, if not a bit too grumpy and unforgiving..

Overall, I enjoyed the writing and the story.

I initially gave it 4 stars but I changed it this time around to 5.

The way I see it, this book is: my favourite of the series, it has great characters, good writing, and the story is consistenly solid, but it didn't feel like a "without a doubt" 5 stars, hence the 4.5.

Tragic is a wonderful book! I am so happy that finally I got a chance to listen to the audiobook. Like many reviewers in goodreads, I am loving every minute of this book.

Kaine story is tragic, just like the title. His chemistry with Piper is explosive. Their first steamy connection is hot. Hot and raw. The loneliness they both feel is being written so well by Miss Perry.

I read that Miss Perry will publish another book for this series. Can not wait.

“Head to toe, Kaine Reynolds was magic.”

If there is one author I can always count on to deliver an exceptional read, it has to be Devney Perry. I have loved each and every story in the Lark Cove series. Tragic, I would go as far as to say is my favorite, but I think I might just say that after every Devney Perry book though. It was just such a beautiful and profound story that I felt so deeply. I love to escape the reality of life and submerge myself into Lark Cove, a mountainous town I have grown to know and love.

Kaine Reynolds is a broken and tortured man who wants nothing more than to be a recluse, completely withdraw from society and run from his tragic past. I love nothing more than to read about tortured heroes and I was drawn to Kaine instantly. I loved everything from his grumpy nature, his broodish demeanour and his desire to escape, with loss and pain his only companions. That is until boisterous and lively Piper plummets head first into Kaine’s world.

“A man could disappear into those eyes. He could get lost and never want to be found.”

I absolutely loved Piper and she is quite possibly my favorite heroine of Devney’s to date. I just fell in love with her loud, colourful, charismatic personality and her whole outlook on life. She was like a beautiful breath of fresh air. She was the light to Kaine’s dark and everything he never knew he needed.

“This cake was magic. Any remaining anger or frustration or irritation evaporated. It was just me, Piper and the best cake I’d ever had in my life.”

The intense physical and emotional connection and chemistry that slowly built between Piper and Kaine was nothing short of beautiful. Neither Kaine nor Piper were expecting or even looking for the other piece to their tragic puzzles, but more and more they grew to crave and depend on each other. They were truly meant to be; a tortured and broken man and the hopeful woman set out to save him.

Tragic will make you laugh, cry and everything in between. In true Devney fashion the writing flowed seamlessly and captivated me instantaneously. She has added yet another book to my favorite stories of 2018 list as she always has a masterful way of weaving magic into every story she creates. I loved both Piper and Kaine and wanted nothing more than to see them get their long sought after HEA. This story really showcases the beauty of love and how when you learn to give your heart to someone, you can finally begin to heal. If you’re anything like me and love a tragic and tortured hero who will melt your heart and make you fall in love, then I could not recommend Tragic enough.

“I want you to always remember that you saved me.”

Her magic brought him out of the dark...

I have a confession to make…I don’t know how to be and act around people who have faced tragedy. I don’t think I’m alone with not knowing what to do or say. What are the right words to show you care? How soon is too soon to try and make them smile? Do I hug them…what if they’re not into hugs? See, I’m bad. All these things flow through my mind when I’m face to face with someone who is facing or has faced devastation. I think, therefore, I was a little overwhelmed and in awe of Piper. Her first glimpse of Kaine is when he is at his darkest, most vulnerable and tragic place. Did she want to run? No, she was pulled towards him. She wanted to help him. Tragic is the story about how love can turn tragic into magic.

Both Kaine and Piper have already lived and faced plenty of hurdles in their lives. They’re mature, established and comfortable in their skin. Sure, mentally they are struggling a wee bit but who can say they don’t have a few inner demons lurking? Piper is divorced from a selfish, egotistical and manipulative jerk, and Kaine is battling depression after a tragedy destroyed his family. These two are licking their wounds and trying to just live each day.

Tragic is a very emotional story that deals with loss, depression and betrayal. I never felt overwhelmed though. Sure, it made me sad and I felt helpless that the characters suffered so much, but I knew, together, they could make it. Piper never shied away from Kaine’s grief or frustration and was always ready to help and support him. Kaine took control when it was needed and made sure that Piper’s ex knew when he’d gone too far. They may not have started their relationship with love on their mind, but the connection grew stronger and their feelings couldn’t be denied.

As we progress through Tragic, more of Kaine’s past comes to light. I was so very angry on his behalf and I wanted him to turn his back on those who had betrayed him. When he starts finding happiness with Piper, he starts to forgive…and I got a little cranky. How could he forgive them? I’m not sure I have it in me to forgive this unforgivable thing. Then, I realised, I’ve only had hours to deal with the betrayal (while reading) and Kaine’s lived with it and breathed it for 3 years. Yep, I can see you’re all shaking your head at the “crazy” book reader who takes the unreal way too realistically. What was a blink of an eye for me to suffer (yes, I’m only the reader, but I do suffer), was 3 whole years of solitary, miserable grief for Kaine. Luckily, Kaine’s a better person than me and managed to move on to bigger and better things.

There’s something about the way that Devney Perry manages to make such a tragic story inspiring, romantic and beautiful. Because I know it will be emotional, I tend to go in bracing myself for the heartbreak. I take a few knocks and a few tears will form but it’s not long before someone makes me smile, smirk or shiver in delight.

Talk about shivering in delight...HUBBA HUBBA!! Kaine certainly does have the MOVES... I was a little surprised with their first encounter but oh so very delighted too. Neither of them was thinking too much of what would happen after, but who doesn't love a little reckless abandon now and again. Just thinking about that scene is making me smirk.

We get the pleasure of catching up with some beloved characters and meet some new ones too. This is not a series you have to read in order. Once you try, you may find that you’ll want to go back to the beginning to meet and get to know the rest of the gang better. Lark Cove is somewhere that I wish was able to visit. I want to meet the people, head to the diner for a burger and check out the bar with the bra hanging off the antlers.

This series has become one of my favourites and each instalment gets better. I’m a Devney Perry fan and if you haven’t tried her stories yet, I highly recommend starting NOW! Tragic was FANTASTIC!!

Tragic was an emotional heartfelt story that you couldn’t help but to feel an invisible tug to. This has been one of my favorite series for the year so far because it gives us so much with the undertone of a relaxed atmosphere and you literally have no choice but to be swept away in these books.

Kaine hasn’t always been a loner. Three years ago his life changed so drastically that there was no other choice but to forget his past and become a shell of the person that he once was. Having his own secluded cabin in the woods and having his own woodshop, is what keeps Kaine going everyday and he’s more than content with his life right now. But a new neighbor is about to disturb his entire peaceful serenity he has going on and the temptation of something much more.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Newly divorce and in need of a fresh start, Piper has decided to leave the big city and move to Lark Cove. She’s now closer to her friends and it doesn’t hurt that her job has gotten better now that she’s moved. The only thing that’s now missing is her very own home but that wont be a problem for long. When she purchases a fixer upper and decides to introduce herself to her new neighbor, nothing goes right and from that very moment, life as these two know it, will change.

I was not expecting to develop such a soft spot for the Hero Kaine and let me tell you I did! This man just stole my heart from the first page, damn the broodiness and bad manners in the beginning. You felt his struggle and pain before you even knew what it was about and you wanted nothing more than to wrap him in your arms and whisper those five words that feels like a soothing balm in the time of grief.

Piper was one those heroines who you loved immediately and I admired the fact that she knew exactly what she wanted. These two together were explosive but it was their story, their fight, that was remarkable. I can’t wait to see what’s going to happen in the next installment with a new couple.

1) I loved that Piper had the courage to leave her ex after a kiss, so many people brushed it off but she saw it for what it was- cheating. Turns out she'd made the right decision because he'd also had sex with the woman after claiming he hadn't. What I didn't like that Piper continued taking his calls for so long into the book...it wasn't until she found out he'd lied about her inability to have kids that she finally put him in his place

2) Kaine's heartbreak was really felt, his brother had been in a relationship with the pregnant mother of his child and after having 3 beers he'd driven her home resulting in an accident that killed her and Kaine's child. I didn't like that Kaine's reaction to anything concerning his brother was so violent but I understood the reason why. I do admit that I didn't want him to forgive Isaiah or his mother and I struggled with the resolution of that conflict

3) There was a lot, a Lot, of internal monologues in this book which I'm not a fan of resulting in a tiny bit of skimming

All in all I enjoyed this one quite a bit and rejoiced in the epilogue

Piper hadn't been with anyone since her ex
Kaine's ex got pregnant from a ONS and moved in with him for the baby's sake, they weren't a couple when she started up with his brother. Since her death he hadn't been with anyone else
OM drama from Piper's ex
Death of a child is referenced though we don't live through it

I think I need to accept the fact that this Devney Perry series is not for me. I didn't like any book in it and all were very forgettable. The heroine is especially annoying. Everybody is talking about this being very emotional. Sure there is a tragic part of the storyline, hence the title, but I didn't feel anything.

A Gentle 4 Stars

Overall an enjoyable addition to the series. I wasn’t entirely sure about the start of the book where Kaine and Piper, both having endured different types of pain, have , that could have put me off especially if I had been in a different mood, but luckily, I just found it slightly weird, since for me it didn’t work within the framework of these characters, outside that scene the story worked for me, as did the characters.

And I loved seeing more of Thea from book 1.

Both Kaine and Piper have moved to Montana for a fresh start, although Kaine has spend the last few years hiding in Montana, a hermit – meeting Piper awakens his emotions and jolts him out of the emotional/physical solitude he has been encased in, since heartache and pain struck.

Piper and Kaine’s characters work well off each other. Piper’s feisty, determined and calm personality is the perfect match to Kaine’s broody and super gruff personality. She’s able to silence the rage that festers and boils within him.

Some moments of really strong emotional intensity, something which adds another good layer to the entire story. The dual POV really works with this book. A good read, and something I see myself re-reading in the future.

4.5 Stars!

This book had me on pins and needles. That cover and that title alone already had me bracing for impact. Even though my anxiety was through the roof, I also knew that Devney Perry would soothe the soul at the end. And she did.

It also wasn't as bad as my imagination. There is tragedy but I think the author did such a good job of showing the healing process and still give us good times to this couple and their story.

I really love the sense of family from all the side characters that this author is known to add to a story. The small town setup is a favorite of mine. The more characters to love, the better.

Kaine had such a sad story I was afraid we wouldn't get much couple time together for these two. What surprised me was that Piper was just as closed off as Kaine and yet we still got to see them grow in character together. I love that.

This book was over too soon and once again, I find my self impatient for the next one in the series!

Gah, the feels. ALL OF THE FEELS. I love this series. Each book has been so sweet and so tender and so heartfelt and so romantic. Devney Perry writes the best, most perfect small town romances! I can't seem to get enough, and I'll tell you that I just loved Tragic. It was deep and angsy, yet hopeful and sweet and sexy! A great, one sitting read. I highly recommend it.

And PS: The Lark Cove Series is a series of interconnected standalones. I loved ALL OF THESE BOOKS. Tragic stands perfectly by itself and can be read in any order. However, when it comes to the first two books, I would read Tattered before Timid because there is a lot of carry over from Tattered in Timid's storyline. :*

Tragic was an emotional romance read.
Kaine and Piper had a great chemistry but I couldn’t puck up on their connection.
Too much narrations and inner thoughts.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2

"I want you to always remember that you saved me.”

Overview
Kaine(33) & Piper(32). Told from dual POV. Takes place in Lark Cove, Montana. Book 3 of 4. Standalone romance, but part of a series with recurring characters. It’s not necessary to read the other books to understand this one, but they are good so why not read them too 😉

Characters
Kaine: he’s lost and his heart is shattered. After 3 years, he's still trying to cope with the loss of his baby (due to a drunk driver) and the anger stemming from what he views as a betrayal. He's reclusive and has closed himself off from others. Kaine builds beautiful furniture and finds solace in his workshop in the mountain.

First impression of Kaine: 💔oh Kaine💔. My heart broke for him. I wanted to cry for his loss and I’d only spent a page with him. His grief was palpable.

Piper: recently divorced due to a cheating ex, she has relocated her life from New York City to Lark Cove. Piper is an assistant to Logan (from Book 1) and works for his family's charitable organization. Therefore, she already has some established connections in her new town and this allows the reader some interaction with characters we loved from previous books.

First impression of Piper: she is upbeat, has some sass to her attitude and is easy to like. It's clear she is ready for a fresh start in Lark Cove.

The Story
When these two first met, Kaine was snarling his grumpy butt at Piper. Even though they irritated each other, there was an obvious, instant attraction for both. So, Piper decided a no-strings attached fling with the sexy, grouchy neighbor was exactly what she needed 😉 Kaine was annoyed that Piper’s house remodel was disturbing his peaceful, quiet, mountain existence. So, the highly charged, angsty sexual tension was established early on. And, after the first time they do "the wild thing", both are unapologetically satisfied and happy. No regret in sight 👍. They found comfort in each other and built a friendship around "magic cake" and a love of the forest and the peace and tranquility it brought. They could confide in each other and share the baggage of their pasts without judgement (although there was more confiding done by Piper than there was by Kaine). Also, they listened to each other as they talked about their current situations and always offered support. They were a good team.
The undercurrent of this book deals with forgiveness and really shows how one thing can have so many repercussions and can tear a family apart. It was heartbreaking. In Piper, Kaine finds the calm and support he needs to begin the healing process.

Overall
These two annoyed each other, but that didn’t stop them from hitting the sheets quickly. In some places, there was a bit of lengthy inner dialogue that got a little bit cumbersome. Kaine wasn't a talker and didn't share his feelings, so in the beginning the inner dialogue was how the story was told. I will say that I'm a sucker for a tortured hero who is saved by a strong woman's unconditional love. Therefore, I had no trouble loving this story. The author sets a good pace, brings some drama (but not too much) and weaves a story with some good undertones about forgiveness and healing. There are definitely some emotional moments in this story.

Quotes
“From day one, I’d hoped to get to know him intimately. I’d earmarked him as a potential Post-Divorce Fling.”

“Sarcasm is my weapon of choice. Unlike some people I know, who prefer to wield chainsaws against innocent lounge chairs for being the wrong size.”

“If my life was in danger, Kaine would wrestle a bear to the ground and kick its ass before making it his living room rug”

“Kaine captured your heart more slowly, like a moss that took months to claim the bark of a forest tree."

“Like Piper had once told me on the ridge, sometimes you just needed to cry.”

“The babies were on a roll, literally, shifting and moving inside me. “I look like an alien.”
“It’s beautiful.” Kaine’s voice was full of wonder.
“I guess they like sex.”
His hands stilled. “What?”
“Sex.” I laughed. “They like it. Maybe an orgasm is like a hug for them. We should hug them more.”

“Somewhere along the line, you stole my heart. I’m going to steal yours in return. Just wait and see.”

“It was time to stop letting a tragedy run my life. It was time to stop moving backward. It was time to let the beautiful people in this one grave rest knowing I’d found my peace too.”

“I love you. I’ll love you every day for the rest of your life.”
I leaned closer, smiling against his lips and whispered, “Prove it.”

This emotional read really hit the spot! It’s the story of two broken-hearted people who find healing in one another. The storyline is engaging and was very well written.

Here’s what I loved:
Piper and Kaine’s chemistry is palpable.
The main characters are wonderfully developed and relatable
I was heartbroken for Kaine 😭
I particularly enjoyed Piper’s character. Despite her past, she’s strong willed, owns her sexuality, and knows what she wants. She’s caring and giving. Exactly the soft touch that Kaine needs and wants

Overall, it’s an excellent story marked by great writing, and heartfelt plot, and fantastic characters.

“Somewhere along the line, you stole my heart. I’m going to steal yours in return. Just wait and see.”

It should be no surprise that yet another book by the incredibly talented Devney Perry has ended up on my TOP FAVORITE list for the year. Tragic is book three in Perry’s Lark Cove series and it was absolutely breathtaking! This author pulls no punches in the emotions department. That prologue just about broke me and set a deep, but tender tone for the beginning of Kaine and Piper’s journey. From there on out it was SCORCHING hot, laced with tons of emotion, angst, and heart.

I adored our tormented ALPHA hero. My heart fractured for him and I wanted nothing more than to jump through the pages and give him never-ending hugs. You could feel his anguish through Perry’s words. It reached into my bones, giving me this urge to break down right alongside him. I don’t know if I’ve ever wanted a happily ever after more for a single character. Our heroine, the lovely Piper Campbell, is probably one of my favorite heroines of Perry’s. She’s just a natural delight. She’s down to earth, a breath of fresh air, and the perfect missing piece in Kaine’s world. These two characters were PURE MAGIC together.

This unforgettable, unputdownable romance is exactly why this author is constantly on my favorites list. With a poetic and flawless prose and characters to revere, you can’t help but GIVE IN to Devney Perry’s genius. She’s an absolute STAND OUT in this genre and I can’t wait to see what stunning story she has for us next!
