Rock Chick #2

Rock Chick Rescue

Rate this book
Jet McAlister has a secret. Eddie Chavez has the hots for Jet (not to mention Eddie’s just plain hot). Jet has too many problems to realize that Eddie’s interested. Eddie loses patience when Jet ends her waitressing shift at a strip club with a knife at her throat. Since Eddie’s a cop, he figures he can help. Since Jet’s used to solving everyone’s problems she doesn’t want Eddie’s help.

Throw in a Dolly Parton look-alike, a gruff but lovable strip club owner, Jet’s ne’er do well father, his ne’er do well friend, Bear, Bear’s long-suffering, chain-smoking wife Lavonne and the crew from Rock Chick and you’ve got Rock Chick Rescue.

Rock Chick Rescue takes you on a wild ride with Jet, Eddie and the gang as they wrestle bad guys in a bagel shop, hit Denver’s backstreet poker tables (with big hair), and help the strippers at Smithie’s take down a would-be murderer.

Through this, Jet’s got to learn that even when life made you give up your dreams, you can still end up with the (hot) guy. Eddie’s got to rescue Jet from a bad man (so he can do better things with her) and teach her that some dreams can come true.

Kristen Ashley

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Confession time: I tried the first book of this series a few years ago and I didn’t care for it. Yep, sad but true. Years later and I’m running out of KA books and I have found myself in the middle of a full blown series binge read!

“It was like the Justice League of Super Heroes but instead it was the Justice League of Hot Guys.”

The cast of characters have grown on me in this second book. The heroine in this book, Jet McAllister is a wonderful daughter, employee and friend. However, she SUCKED at being a girlfriend/lover. Her communication skills (ex. Pardon?) were horrendous and this girl ran every chance she had.

This is for Eddie…

description

I adored Eddie Chavez! He was the perfect KA hero for me. He’s not too pushy, he’s sexy as hell, and hit that something special mark where he felt like he was a living and breathing person for me.

”I could fall in love with that smile,” he murmured as if he was talking to himself and I wasn’t even there.”

description

Jet’s father brings a ton of drama and danger to her doorstep and this independent woman must learn to truly accept help from others. Jet tried my patience and even though I could totally be friends with her, for a man like Eddie she missed the bar as his equal.

description

Side Note: How cute is that Tex?

”Don’t want you and your sister playin’ snotty tricks on me like those brats on TV,” Tex said. I blinked. “The brats on TV are usually kids, not adults approaching thirty like Lottie and me.”

”You like cats?”

I just can’t bring myself to rate this book lower than a 4 Star rating because of all the wonderful characters and one Eddie Chavez!

Re-read / Audio listen March 15th, 2015:

I'm totally loving my reread of the series, and I'm glad I decided to give the audio versions a try. The narrator, Susannah Jones, does a great job bringing the Rock Chicks, the Hot Bunch, and their stories to life!!

This is why I love Eddie:

“Whatever your next disaster, I’m gonna be there. Buying your groceries, fixin’ your car, dealin’ with your Dad, I don’t give a fuck. I want you to owe me. It gives me the upper hand, and I’m gonna need the upper hand to wear you down. And Jet…”

He stopped, he was looking into my eyes , and he had that look he had this morning, after Mom and Lavonne came home and before I walked out of my room. The look made my belly feel funny and my knees get weak.

“What?” I asked. Honestly the suspense was killing me.

“There’s one thing today proved.” He moved in even closer, his body was brushing mine and his face was an inch away.

“What? ” I kind of shouted. What could I say? It’d been a rough day. I was close to losing it.

“Whatever happens, you’re worth it and I don’t want to hear you say again that you’re not. Get me?”

I felt that warm strangeness hit me and I had no choice but to nod.

Re-read Review - August 22-23, 2013

Very few authors can tell a story that has me so caught up that I'm reading every word without skipping a single one, but Kristen Ashley can! And a re-read? Without skipping or skimming?? Nearly unheard of for me! But that's exactly what happened!

Again, I was giggling my butt off, loving the chance to revisit some of the most amazing women ever - and the Hot Bunch, of course. What I loved most about this book was spending time with Tex and Daisy, two totally amazing people. Secondary characters? They sure as hell don't feel secondary. None of them do! They're ALL fantastic people I've come to adore. This book made me laugh, it made me smile, it had me fanning myself... Such a fun, feel-good story!

Original Review -

Jet McAlister has spent most of her life solving everyone else’s
problems, handling all the hard stuff, taking care of the people she loves who just can’t seem to take care of themselves… and she’s done this even when it meant not taking care of herself. Working as a waitress in a strip club for the extra money to cover her mother’s medical expenses didn’t phase Jet at all, it was just another paycheck to help her help others. But one night after work when she ends up with a knife at her throat in the alley behind the club, wielded by someone looking for her family abandoning, sad excuse for a father, Jet’s friends aren’t about to let her ‘handle’ it herself. Whether she likes it or not, Jet has to answer to her Rock Chick friends and their men… and most definitely to Eddie Chavez who’s had the hots for Jet since the first time he laid eyes on her.

Rock Chick Rescue is the second book in the Rock Chick series and seriously… laugh out loud funny, heart pounding exciting, and break out the fan and ice-water hot. I love, love, LOVE, the entire cast of characters and all the mischief and mayhem they manage to get into even when they’re just sitting around drinking coffee.

If you haven’t yet tried Kristen Ashley’s writing and are wondering where to start, I strongly recommend the Rock Chick series. The heroes are hot and so alpha they make cavemen look like peace activists, and the women… they are funny as all get out, and sometimes it takes them awhile to “clue in,” but they are, in my opinion never, ever too stupid to live.

I am soooooooo looking forward to the next book, and the one after that, and the one after that… I hope this author never stops writing Rock Chick stories.

Jet McAlister is one of those girls that does everything for everyone. She is strong. She has no choice but to be strong. What would happen if she wasn’t? Everything would crumble. Her father is only in the picture when it’s convenient for him, her mother is recovering from a stroke, and her sister is in LA living big all the while Jet is working two jobs- coffee shop/bookstore by day and waitressing at a strip club at night.

Jet notices Eddie Chavez right away. He comes into Indy’s coffee shop often. Jet has a huge crush on Eddie. He is just her type, but she is extremely awkward around him. Eddie has a thing for Jet as well. Jet doesn’t have the highest self esteem/self worth. She doesn’t believe there is any way in the world Eddie could really want a girl like her. Shes ‘boring’. When Jet’s dad comes into town with a whole ton of trouble surrounding him, Jet proves to be anything BUT boring.

Jet and Eddie grow closer, but Jet feels Eddie is just there to rescue her, and once all her problems are gone, he will be too. She just doesn’t get it. Eddie has a job ahead of him. To prove to Jet that he will be what she needs, catch her when she falls, that she is worth it.
“Everyone's got their hands out waitin' for you to take one. You gotta learn when to take someone's hand before you fall.”

Jet and Eddie... Thank God for Eddie. All alpha male. All hot and sexy, protective, sweet and fine! Eddie and Jet balanced each other out. Although I liked Jet at times, and I understood her some of the time (being the older sibling, responsible one of the family) she really drove me insane for much of the book. She was the reason this wasn’t a 5 star read for me. I think if she would have came around a little earlier it wouldn’t have been as bad, but until the very last chapter she was working my nerves. Eddie was amazing. He really stuck it out there. He knew he had a good woman and he was willing to do whatever he had to do to keep her.
“Chiquita, women spend a lot of time sittin’ around bitchin’ that there are no good men out there.
I hate to tell you this, but there aren’t a lot of good women either.
The difference is, when a man sees one, he knows it.
Then, he goes after her and wears her down until she’s his.
Then, if he’s any man at all, he won’t let her go.”

I especially loved the scenes where Eddie worked on keeping Jet ‘sweet’.

For once in her life, Jet found someone to lean on. Some one she cares for, loves, and that makes her feel safe. Will she be able to let go of the feelings she harbors for herself and what she thinks she deserves and open up to Eddie... that is the question.

 photo be22eb51-5bfa-4281-83d7-a139cf1318ea_zps955ce4e0.jpg

This had some suspense, action, it was frustrating at times, but it was also very funny. It was good to catch up with Indy, Tex, Duke, Ally, Lee and the whole gang...
It was like the Justice League of Super Heroes but instead it was the Justice League of Hot Guys.

We also got to meet some fun new characters- Daisy, Ada, Smithie, Trixie etc. Love all of Lee’s guys and can’t wait to get to some of their books (especially Mace ♥) but next is Hank's book... bring it on!

I actually forgot how awesome this book was <3
Being the second in line, so many others came after it that were amazing and pushed Eddie down on the list of fav RC men, but really, Eddie is <3

This one is fun like the rest of them, with another clueless heroine and a guy who's doing everything to make her see he won't let her go :D

“Babe, watching you these past months has been like watching a flower bloom. Don't disappoint us.”

That horribly awkward moment where you identified with a character.... just to find out everyone who read the book hates her aka you.

I get ahead of myself. Rock Chick Rescue is the story of Jet and Eddie. We met them previously in the first book Rock Chick, where we learned Eddie was holding a torch for Indy and she chose Lee. Jet was more brief, but a quiet addition to the characters near the end of the book.

Jet works two jobs to help support her mother who had a stroke less than a year ago. From the moment she laid eyes on Eddie she had a huge crush on him, but she just isn't able to talk to hot guys. When Jet's dad comes back into town bringing trouble into her life, Jet's secrets come out and Eddie and her coworkers and friends step up to help her out.

“Chiquita, women spend a lot of time sittin’ around bitchin’ that there are no good men out there.

So like I said before, I actually really liked Jet. Maybe because I am often very insecure myself, I love when heroines aren't these strong and powerful women because I find "annoying" heroines refreshing and realistic. But that's just me. Hell I even liked Kiera from Thoughtless so judge me if you will.

Anyways, I normally don't enjoy Cinderella stories, but I really enjoyed this one. Mostly because Jet didn't lie down and expect Eddie to do everything for her, she really was self sufficient and worked hard for everything that came her way. Eddie was amazing, he's one of the better KA alpha heroes because he helped out Jet but he also gave her room to help herself.

One criticism..... this book constantly referred to Jet's lady parts as her "doo-da" and I had to put the book down when reading it because I can't even with that name. It was so awful.

This book just like the first also had me literally chuckling and laughing out loud while reading it. I think it's probably the funniest of Ashley's series and I cannot wait to read more as my book friends have said they get better and better as it goes on.

Now, Jet and Eddie's story was not my favourite in the Rock Chick series. Saying that, I also said the same thing about Rock Chick Reckoning and completely changed my mind after listening to the audio. I've decided to give Rock Chick Rescue another go and see if Sussanah Jones can convert me on this one too. I've also changed my whole attitude towards it after reading this comment by Kristen Ashley...

I will admit to mostly skimming this book. I wanted a basic understanding of the overall plot and to meet the new characters introduced in this story. I knew the heroine would drive me nuts, and from the little I read, I was correct. Luckily, I enjoyed Jet's character throughout the rest of the series. She was a pretty awesome character outside her own book.

4 sweet stars!! : )

Okay, now we have Eddie (you remember him, right? Lee’s best friend, from the first book!) and Jet.
Jet is juggling two jobs trying to take care of her sick mother and doesn’t want anyone to know about her life.
Eddie is very interested in her (not that she notices, which is ironic considering that she is totally smitten by him!!), and being the sexy badass detective that he is, soon finds out about her “hidden life”.
When Jet’s dad, basically an asshole that owes money to bad people, puts Jet in his trouble, Eddie has to step in and try to save her. Even when she doesn’t want to be saved because she believes that she can take care of herself on her own.

So yeah… Stubborn Heroine + Sexy Alpha Male + Kristen Ashley = completely funny and sexy book with a very (VERY!) hot hero.

And although I slightly liked the first one better, I loved it anyway, because this is basically my relation with all KA’s books:

Jet McAlister was recently hired on at Fortnum’s bookstore but no one there, including the owner, knows much about her. She’s juggling two jobs, the other at Smithie’s, the strip club (she’s a cocktail waitress with clothes on), and is the primary caregiver for her mother Nancy who is recovering from a devastating stroke. Her estranged father Ray suddenly shows up at the bookstore under the guise of seeing his “little girl” but brings with him a load of trouble and dangerous men who think the way to him is through her. Jet’s had a serious crush on the handsome Denver police detective Eddie Chavez since she laid eyes on him and unbeknownst to her, the attraction is mutual. He’s been hands off because that’s the vibe she sends but when her father’s baggage threatens Jet, he steps up and how.

As soon as Jet’s father showed up I knew the proverbial bumpy ride was on. Eddie’s one of the alpha men in this series so his reaction was predictable (but perfect). Jet was the unknown and I enjoyed getting to know her. She’s got a strong streak of independence given her father’s absence in her family’s life and her being responsible for her mother’s well being. But Jet’s not used to being able to rely on anyone and she’s insecure about herself. While her self-deprecating humor could be funny, it also gave me insight about her self worth, or lack thereof. She kept waiting for Eddie to lose interest and leave but this guy wasn’t going anywhere.

This was a fun listening experience as the Rock Chicks drafted a new member and their escapades were hilarious at times. I loved when Daisy Sloan made an appearance, like a breathe of fresh air and reality. I’m not normally a fan of these highly alpha men but something about these guys kind of works. They’re seriously formidable and it’s not bluster. They love these independent and feisty women, proving that they’re also comfortable in their own skin. Eddie’s romancing of Jet while ensuring her protection made for some interesting and steamy moments. I don’t know what it is about this author and her stories but I don’t seem to be able to put them down. The narrator nailed Jet & Eddie while also applying some great storytelling skills. Loving this series!

3 I'm a bit indifferent STARS

Giving up on writing this review. I had this sitting around for days and nothing comes to mind. Maybe I'll write something in a few month, since I usually do re-reads with KA books. It wasn't a bad book and it wasn't a huge success either. I liked the characters well enough but to be really honest...I finished this 4 or 5 days ago and I can hardly remember how I felt about it. So, I'm just going to shut up now and read something else. ;D

2023 audiobook reread. Now I’ve started on the Rock Chick series I can’t stop. I love being in their world.

2020 audiobook reread. I don’t think was my favourite RC book but Fortnum’s is my happy place and I need my happy place this week 😊

Original review:
This followed a similar formula to the first in this series with a girl in peril getting protection and a little lurve from Denver's finest and Nightingale's company of badass hotties.
There was lots going on and I loved that we got to pick up the same characters again, especially Indy and Lee from the last book. The female hero in this, Jet, pushed Eddie away time and time again and that got really old for me. I don't feel like they really had any happy times together like Indy and Lee eventually got to in the first book.
Still, if you enjoyed Rock Chick, this is more of the same and you'll probably like this too.

DNF but 2 stars for the first 20%, which was awesome.

So, so disappointed. After 48%, I just cannot give RC Rescue anymore of my time or patience. Jet went from being a sweet, wallflower-ish heroine to a complete and utter bitch.
"Christ!" Eddie tore his hand through his hair and then fell to his back. "I even know you're worth it and I'm wondering if you're worth it."
Eddie you poor bastard... she's totally not worth it.

And FYI, I had to create a 3rd DNF shelf for this... such was my reaction to it.

I gotta say I did like this book, but I didn’t love it nearly as much as the first one.

Jet meets Eddie when she gets a job working at the coffee shop run by Indy (the heroine from book 1). Jet is trying her best to get by working two jobs while taking care of her mother who has suffered from a stroke. Eddie is a cop who works with Lee Nightingale (the insanely HOT hero from book 1). They have nearly instant mutual attraction but while Eddie tries his best to act on it, Jet tries her best to deflect his efforts. Then in walks her Dad who has gotten himself indebted to the wrong lone sharks who are willing to drag anyone into the mess and Jet ends up under Eddie’s protection as he makes it his business to keep her safe.

Eddie was an awesome hero. He was HOT, possessive, protective, patient, caring and everything a hero should be – I absolutely loved him!! But Jet really brought the book down for me – she literally had no sense of self worth and her constant insistence right until the last page of the book that she didn’t deserve Eddie/they weren’t right for each other really frustrated me. I understand where she was coming from – her Dad abandoned her Mom when she was a kid so her faith in men was sorely shaken, but I still wished there would have been a point where she came around so we could actually see more of them as a functional couple.

Eddie worked so hard to make them work as a couple (and in the end won of course) but I kinda wished that Jet would have tried a little harder too.

“Eddie, let me go!” I (kind of) shouted.
His arms tightened and he shook me a bit. “It’s not gonna happen!” he shouted back.

As usual with all KA books, we have a wonderful mix of action and romance. And I absolutely LOVED that all the characters from book 1 that we have come to know and love not only showed up in this book, but were integral parts of the story. Also, I loved that the stories of the past couples continue in this book, they don’t just become side characters, its absolutely wonderful to see them moving on with their lives together.

“Let me guess, this one has your protection too? What? Are you building a harem?”

KA is an absolute genius at building a complex network of relationships and friendships that just make me squee! There is a scene at the end where literally everyone works together and it gave me shivers!!

“Holy crap,” I whispered.
It was like the Justice League of Super Heroes but instead it was the Justice League of Hot Guys.”

Also, with what I’ve seen of the other characters whose books are still to come, I know I absolutely cannot WAIT for their stories and I have heard that their heroines are not annoying so yay!! Mace in particular I have fallen in love with! He’s tortured and dark and broody and HOT *swooon* … must. read. faster. lol

Here’s how I see Eddie and Jet:

Reviewing after what must be my 15th re read of this book.

Shall keep it short.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Eddie. Adored Jet, even if she drove me insane at times.

I enjoyed how Jet had spent most of her life, looking out for others, sacrificing for her family, yet in this book she has an entire group of people all stood there willing to be her back up and catch her when she falls. With Eddie right at the front of that group.

Eddie had spent months trying to get Jet's attention, and when he eventually has his chance, he refuses to let anything, even Jet herself, spoil it.

Add in some bad guys, a bit of drama, some funny moments, and it is an excellent 5 stars.

A great addition to the Rock Chick series, and one of my favourite couples in the series - shall be a book I re read many more times.

Not my favorite of the series, but Eddie is hot! ;)

Re-Read January 2016 (Jet still annoys the crap out of me and I still find it hard to believe that Eddie had a thing for Indy for YEARS, and just got over it like THAT)

Sept 7th, 2018 Re-Read 5000001. For some reason this go around I found Eddie more annoying than Jet. Also, if he had a thing for Jet right from the start, why was he holding hands with a blonde (his date) at one of Indy's parties where he knew it was likely Jet was going to be as well? This was a couple months after the "cup" incident where he claims he first got interested in her?? Things that make you go...hmmm??

I’m sorry, is this a romance between Eddie and Jet OR a reverse harem story between the Hot Bunch and Jet??? Why is Eddie just . . . ~ there ~ like a spectator??? Other than conducting his infamous “chat” with Jet which ultimately just means sex, he is U-S-E-L-E-S-S. It’s always one of the Hot Bunch who saves the day. Eddie is not even at least present at the scene. Also, Jet who always insists that she’s boring . . .

NEWSFLASH! Girl, you’re not boring. You’re just an annoying little twat on the brink of poverty who doesn’t know how to accept free-offered help when you desperately need it, acts like a busy-bee “ooo everybody needs meee” while you don’t need anyone, and calls her lady bits doo-da. What women in their right mind refer to their lady parts doo-da??? Whatever. I skimmed the book, and I’m over it. BYE.

4 "You're so full of sh*t" STARS

The adventure, hilarity and steamy sexy times continues for the Rock Chick gang with Jet McAllister and Eddie Chavez's story.

Jet was silly, cute and shy, although I could have done without her 'ekes' and 'sheeshes', and especially calling her vagina a "do-da". What are we, 10? Perhaps it was because this was an audiobook that her quirks seemed more prominent and if I'd read it, they might've been less annoying (I would've down played them in my head!). But don't get me wrong, Susannah Jones does an awesome job on the audio.

And Eddie, melt my panties!! He was all kinds of alpha and I loved how into Jet he was even though he played it cool. Because seriously, for what that chick put him through, he had to be wild about her or absolutely insane! LOL. And his moments of sweet were classic KA, had me swooning and my belly doing a pitter-patter!

“I could fall in love with that smile”

Onto the next one book. Rock on!

Another good addition to the Rock Chick series but nothing overly spectacular. I enjoyed Eddie's character and the drama that unfolded throughout the book, with stabbings and characters nearly having their heads shot off but the romance between Jet and Eddie was a little meh, not my favourite.

AHEM. Clearly 2017 Bella was out of her ever loving mind. I love Eddie and although Jet was sometimes (often) frustrating and annoying, I still adore them. Bumping this up to the 4 stars it deserves. I think when you read this series in order, you appreciate the characters and their stories a lot more. The second book will never shape up next to the sixth when hundreds more crazy characters and relationships join in; you need the lead up and anticipation. (My hypothesis to why 2017 Bella didn't appreciate this gem lol).

I still enjoyed the story and seeing more of my beloved characters. I found that I enjoyed Jet more as a side character in the later novels rather than as a main character, I found that she tended to get on my nerves in such big doses. Jet is a female character who 'supposedly' doesn't see herself as everybody else does, she thinks she is boring in ever department and Eddie is forced to make her see herself in the same light he does. It's a familiar trope and one that tends to start to irritate me, especially when the character in question makes stupid decisions because of it—aka Jet.

Not my favourite but still an enjoyable addition that I'm sure I'll go back and reread when I need a good dose of romance.

I want to make glass thingies of the word eek -if we can call it a word-. And then smash them all into little eeky pieces with a baseball bat. I want dead little eeks littering the ground. There were around a hundred too many of eeks in this boring book about an annoying twat who thought that her hair/her room/her looks/her life/her fucking everything is boring. And you know what? She was damn right! This "bohhuuu pity my boringness" kept going on till the last page and was practically the what the whole book was about. I kept picturing myself running circles around the heroine chanting boring boring boring and sprinkling crazy screams of eek wordies in between my spit riddled crazy dance of violence. Hmm, it looked better in my head. Nevermind!

Another word Jet loves is doo-da in reference to her vagina or clit, I'm not sure which one exactly. This being the first time I've seen it, I went and asked uncle google what it means. These are some of the results;

1-Grandfather figure...
often gruff but also very kind and loyal.

2-Rear end, bottom butt

3-The name of a curious clown woman you might find snooping around Mcdonalds after the sun sets. She usually appears in her clown form and may quite possibly be drunk off her ass. Young men should stay far from her, for she has little manners and may invite them and their cocks into her massive clown puss. Basically, a Doo-Da is a clown whore.

As you can guess I'm gonna go with the third explanation because when I think of the whole book that's the one that makes sense.

I just wanted to knock hard lightly on Jet's -who is our main twat heroine- head and ask; is there anybody home?! Say you're minding your business and drinking your espresso. A man you like comes and swipes his thumb trough your lip, then sucks the said thumb. What would you think? I'll tell you what Jet thinks; "he does this because he is being nice to me". Yeah, that's the logical answer, you go girl!!

At some point Jet says; I was such an idiot. No I was beyond idiot, though I didn’t know what beyond idiot was. Let momma Bubs tell you what's beyond the idiot my little Jetty; being an idiotic pipsqueak fucktard -like you. Even bitching about Jet is boring so I'll get to our hero; Eddie.

Eddie is ... just there... doing stuff, going about his pussy puppy love trying to look like an alpha. Trying is good but doesn't guarantee success. He says "If you’re indebted to me, you’re connected to me." to explain how he is going to keep his relationship with Jet. I don't have much to say about him other than I think he needs to go see a shrink about what he finds "adorable" in a woman and his ideas about healthy relationships.

Other characters were ok. I'm intrigued by Mace and Lottie so I'll probably read more of this series in the future when I feel the need to rant, but for now we have to part ways with this author before I go into homicidal rage.

3 ½ stars – Chick lit/Contemporary Romance/Romantic Suspense

Geez, and here I thought Indy from Rock Chick was aggravating. But Jet definitely wins the prize for the most annoying, clueless, low self-esteem, and TSTL heroine who’s deserving of a major b*tch slap smackdown. I found her so exasperating that she lessened my overall enjoyment, and I don’t know why a yummy as sin hero like Eddie put up with all her bullsh*t, unless he’s just glutton for punishment.

But it’s still Kristen Ashley, so of course, despite my loathing Jet, the wacky, unbelievable plot, zany antics, and super abrupt ending, I still found it entertaining. And I’ll definitely read the rest of the Rock Chick series.

*****Edited from original rating/review*****

I bumped this from a low 3.5 to a higher 3.5 (closer to 4 stars) after finishing Rock Chick Regret, loving the series, and eventually growing to like Jet!

This series is just awesome. First these chicks are crazy hilarious. I want a job at Fortnum's so I can hang out with these guys everyday. I think I'm even okay that they are open 7 days a week. It's like a party everyday and you never know where you are going to end up, plus it has perks of all those damn hot guys hanging around everyday. I also, have always wanted to use a taser gun and hanging out here seems my best chance at that.

Gah, if I had some hot bad ass guy like Eddie offering his protection and his bed and him all together there is no way in hell I would fight it like Jet did.

Once again, one of Fortnum's girls finds herself in a mess that she did not mean to end up in. Taking care of her mom she has no time for anything but working her two jobs. I'm talking no time for friends, guys or a life whatsoever. Then dear ole daddy brings trouble to her doorstep and she is forced into a life she never expected. When knifes started being flashed and bullets start flying Eddie steps in and claims what he has wanted for months. All of a sudden Jet is kidnapped, threatened to be hunted down and told graphically how she is going to be raped. Wanting life to go back to normal Jet goes against what Eddie tells her to do and from Rock Chick gang member to the next finds herself in different situations. (May I just say, Lee has his hands full with Indy, seeing as how she is sometimes the instigator but always always on a ride along in the craziness.)

"I think you best mosey on up ther, pa'dner. He doesn't look like he's gonna wait much longer and I'm not sure you want to know what he'll do when he's done waiting." Ally after the poker adventure where tasers were used.

"Does this plan involve you shoutgun? Jet asked
"Nope", Tex said and I felt some relief then he said, "At least Plan A doesn't."
"What about Plan B?" Jet pressed.
He started walking toward the door. "Let's just hope Plan A works."

The new additions to the gang were awesome. Daisy is just crazy and helped Indy get Jet in some more trouble. Trixie, Ada, Nancy, Lottie, Blanca and the rest of Eddie's family was just all awesome additions.

I just really feel like I'm rambling, so I'll say this is an awesome KA series full of macho alpha men, suspense, hilarious Rock Chicks who get themselves in trouble more than not, and love in the end. Highly recommended if you haven't read it. Can't wait for more.

Aaaand, we're back to why I love KA so much. Though Ms. Ashley strayed a bit from her usual heroine with Jet, there was still so much to love about her. Since she was fourteen, she's taken care of everyone but herself. She's basically supported her mom and sister emotionally and monetarily since her dad took off. Now, her sister lives in California and her Mom had a stroke. Jet moves in with her mom to once again take care of her, and is working herself to exhaustion day and night just to try to get by. She doesn't have a single second to spare, especially for someone like Eddie, who seems to take up a lot of her time just thinking about him.

Who could take a name like Eddie and make it sound sexy? This author can! Gimme that sexy Spanish accent calling me (okay, Jet) carina and I'm a melty puddle of goo, right next to Jet on the floor.

"He has a lean body made up of compact, defined muscles and he's one of those guys who makes whatever he wears look the bomb, instead of one of those guys who looks like he was trying to be the bomb in what he wears."

Mmmmhmmm, I know what you're saying. I fell in love with both Jet and Eddie from page eight, when she starts listing off their first encounters and her subsequent bouts of stupidity in the face of Eddie's hotness. But you can tell the whole time that each time Jet slips up, Eddie falls harder for her. For nearly the entire book, she just can't understand what a guy like Eddie is doing with a girl like her. In fact, Eddie even says, multiple times, "You just don't see it, do you?" And my GOODNESS, can this man talk!

"Since I'm being honest with you, Chiquita, I'll tell you that I usually play with what I want until I feel the time is right to move in. The time was right with you a long fuckin' time ago but you've been so focused on your own shit, you gave me no opening. This hasn't been fast. You want to see fast, we'll go into the bedroom and I'll show you fast but I'll show it to you slow."

Just a little taste of Eddie, there. One thing that I noticed about this series so far is that the plain talking so prevalent in the Colorado Mountain series is still there, but waaay toned down. It's not hard to read the male dialogue. And KA doesn't use a dictionary/thesaurus to write. I think that's why its so easy to connect with her characters. You could be talking to your (really hot) neighbor or (sexy as hell) friend's brother.

Of course, Tex and the gang from Fortnums is back, as well as the studly crew of law enforcement and secretive gang of hotness. I can tell already that Mace is going to be one of my flavorite boys. There is a scene in here with Mace that breaks my heart and heats me up, all at the same time. I'm telling you, in the middle of my Eddie worship, I wanted to stop and just skip to Mace's story. Really. PLEASE tell me Mace gets a story. Please. I'm done now, and where I usually take a break after two series books in a row, I don't think its possible with this series. I'm smitten, by all of the men in this series. Each is so different, yet still retain that uber-possessive alpha streak that grabs ahold of me. Yummy, yumm! I am so freakin' stoked to get to the rest of this series!
