A stray e-mail introduces Alaya Hendricks to Alexander Hennessey, III. What she thinks will be a fling, turns out to be much more. From the first, Alex knows that Alaya is his destiny. He's a vampire. And Alaya is his mate. PLEASE Chatting with a Vampire was previously published in the Just Vamps Anthology. It has been lengthened from its original form.
Well, this could have been better. For one, I was expecting a fun texting trope - didn't get it. Plus, the writing was lackluster; there was also a lot of telling and not showing. The sex scenes weren't sexy, with some word choices making everything just...nasty. An example, which I've hidden: Even for a paranormal romance, this was way too insta-love. Still, there were some cute moments and some sage advice from Alaya's mom, hence the two stars.
Speaking of my 2 stars...I also have this review on Amazon, but for some strange reason, it isn't showing up. Can authors block reviews that they don't like? Just curious.
I don't recall ever DNF'ing a Thayer King book. But alas, even some of my favorite authors have misses. This is a huge miss. The writing is bland and uninspired. The trope is familiar, told in a way that adds nothing new to the genre outside of its contemporary setting (and that's nothing new either). Overall, it came across like King was phoning in the story to tick off another box in her expanding catalogue (paranormal vampire romance...check). Aside from the ridiculous title that has little to do with the story , it's the hobo's guide to every cheesy vampire story you've ever read or seen and that's being very, very generous.
Love at first email? I recently read the first 3 books in the Immortals After Dark series and this novella gave me those vibes; hero finally crossing paths with his mate, however this novella could’ve benefitted from being a little bit longer. Crazy coming from me because I love my novellas short sweet and to the point but for what we were trying to do with this one, a few more pages could’ve worked wonders.
This was a quick read about how Alaya accidentally sent Alex an email and she ended up being his one true mate. They're so good together and very much alike.
2.50 Stars. (BW/WM). This is an 83 page Kindle Unlimited e-book. A quick read that required a lot coincidental events to align in a manner favorable for this whirlwind romance. Alexander Hennessy, III, a centuries old, wealthy gentlemanly vampire, who has been celibate for over a decade while he searches for his mate. Alayna Hendricks recently became a certified financial planner and is working as a financial adviser to an investment firm. Like Alex, Alaya has been celibate for a few years and has no real social life because of her studies and her new job; but unlike Alex, Alaya is not looking for romance. Alex replies to an e-mail that Alaya accidentally sent to him, he then convinces Alaya to meet he for dinner and drinks-Insta 💕. They start to date in earnest, he feeds from her twice during sex and eventually tells her that he is vampire 🧛♀️ and if she agrees to the third bite, she will be his mate and live for centuries as human. After a brief separation, Alaya agrees and she and Alex become a happy mated couple.
This was a luke warm read for me and here’s why there was no excitement. It was just a nice HEA with a supernatural twist even the supernatural part wasn’t as interesting as I would have liked. I wanted to know more about his century of living the company he bought and sold. More about being a vampire and dare I say some drama? Her resistance didn’t make sense to me, perhaps it’s because I read a lot of supernatural books but come on the hot sexy vampire love story is very popular what woman wouldn’t want what he was offering? He treated her well, was sweet, sexy was good so..why not? I get why the author put it in but it just wasn’t believable and made the heroine loose points in my opinion. The story is good though pretty straightforward read with no surprises.
It wasn’t an enticing read but I enjoyed it. The element that drew me in and kept me reading was Alaya’s character—full stop. She was analytical, cautious and organized with every area of her life until she meets and gets involved with Alex. I could really connect with her because I found pieces of her that reflected my own personality. And it doesn’t fall into your typical vampire 🧛♂️ category like normal supernatural stories of the genre because you mostly forget Alex is one until it’s directly brought up. And I adored Alaya’s best friend Shelia she was a fun character.
Alaya never thought her two year drought would end because of a mistake in an e-mail address. When Alex received an e-mail by mistake, he knew right away that his wait for love was over. Convincing the straight laced financial advisor that they were destined to be together, probably the most important thing he's done in his 135 years of life. The alternative is unacceptable though. Sexy vampire fun, you can't go wrong with that.
This was a quick read that I chose because I needed something different from the books that I had indulged in and this fit the bill. There could have been more though. I felt that the characters were not fully who they could have been. The writing was okay, but lacked; there was something missing. The story was not what I expected, but it wasn't horrible. There was much potential here so I would try another story from this author.
I really enjoyed this short read by King. I was happy to read about a real woman, with real concerns about her love life, but one that was also willing to take the risk. I also loved s2eing that Alaya still had her family as well as Alexander. There are so many books that I read that the main characters have lost their parents tragically. So happy that I happened across this book, can't wait to read the other books King has written.
Alaya meets Alex when she accidentally sends him an email. After he gets her to agree to a date, Alex realizes that Alaya is his mate. Now he just has to convince her to stay when she finds out he’s a vampire. Story: 4/5 stars. Heat level: 4/5 stars. POV: third person. Heroine: Alaya Hendricks Hero: Alexander Hennessey, III Secondary characters: Sheila, Alaya’s friend Anita Hendricks, Alaya’s parents Amelia and Alexander, Alex’s parents
This was a great story. I’m actually confused by the negative reviews. It’s short, only about 50 pages. What sort of complexities are expected in so little pages?
I think it accomplished what it set out to do. It’s a sexy, supernatural, short romance with hot sex. Sometimes that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Once again, it’s only 50 pages. And somehow I grew fond of the characters, loved the story, and even got an HEA. Missing accomplished. 4.5 Stars.
I mean, I always have a hard time reviewing books that are short, cause they have limited time to tell their story. However, I thought the shorter page number worked in this story's favor. The pacing felt perfect and every scene served a purpose. There are only two complaints that I have. One is that I wish we got more from Alex's POV. The other thing is I wish the epilogue was either longer or went farther in the future than just a month or two.
I love Mrs. King stories. This one is no different even though it was short. Alex is a gentleman who found his mate in Alaya. The difficulty is trying to convince her that they are.
Great read, characters, and storyline. I love how they accidentally met. Chatting with a Vampire, held my attention from beginning to end. This a short and very sexy story. Check out.
I liked it well enough. I understood the getting to know you before revealing some hard truths. This was a fun short read. There was no over the top drama just choices to be made about how much of a lie could a couple love with.
What starts out as a story of a stray email becomes and impossible love between a vampire and a young Black woman. While this story was insta-love-ish, you couldn’t help but like the characters, their families, and just the flow of the story. It wasn’t what I was expecting—and I’m glad for that.
Interestingly charming in an other worldly way. Although AlayaCare finds love it wasn’t made clear if she really considered all that she will encounter out living your love ones.
I enjoyed reading this book, but I felt it was entirely too short! I loved the characters in it! It just left me wanting a lot more of a story! Definitely a story to recommend, but a note to the author, I want more! What happens afterwards???? Is there a book 2?
This novella was a mini morsel but sweet none the less. Alex was the perfect vampire boyfriend other than the fact he was a vampire. Alaya was sweet but also had boundaries and I like that in a woman. Great read and I definitely recommend.
This is the second Thaler King book I have read and I found this book to be a fun read. By the way, accidentally emailing a guy like your boss does happen but you may not get the same outcome! I did not get the same outcome!
