With a baby suddenly in his care, he’ll need all the help he can get.
When Nash Dillon’s childhood friend leaves a baby on his doorstep, his days become unpredictable. Thankfully, Emily Lang, an undercover investigator posing as a nanny, comes to his rescue. But once he discovers why Emily is really there—and that both her and the baby’s life are in danger—he unleashes every skill in his law enforcement arsenal to keep them out of harm’s way. This is a Romantic Suspense, and this is the second book in the Holding the Line series. I have not read any other books in this series before picking up this book, but I do feel you can read this book as a standalone without any problems. I got pulled into this book from the beginning, and I fell in love with that little baby from the beginning. I felt all the characters were really developed, and I connected to them so quickly. The suspense in this book was on point, and this book had me sitting on the edge of my seat several times. The romance was so fast moving once it got started, and I enjoyed the romance parts in this book.
Nash Dillon is a Border Patrol Agent He's well trained and dedicated to his work. However, he's not prepared to take care of a baby. Why did a childhood friend leave her little boy on his doorstep? Nash is struggling. He doesn't know the first thing about babies. When he meets Emily who tells him that she's a nanny, he hires her. What he doesn't know is that she's a PI hired to protect Wyatt. Things get deadly when Wyatt's mother is found murdered. When Nash learns who Emily really is, he's angry. When he sees how much she loves the baby, they agree to work together to keep him safe. I knew that being in Paradiso was a risk. Not with the drug cartel being so close. I hoped Nash could protect his charge. I was glad that he saw the goodness in Emily. Together they will try and foil the plans of a powerful mover and shaker who doesn't care who he hurts. This romantic suspense pulled me in. I liked the characters. Emily is a feisty woman who puts herself out there for those she loves. Nash is all that's honorable. I wanted good to triumph and Wyatt to have the security and love that all children deserve. Carol Ericson kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't put down Chain of Custody. This story touched a nerve. I loved this book. Holding The Line is a powerful series. It's a keeper. I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read and reviewed. My comments are my honest opinion.
Danger is lurking! With book two in her Holding the Line series Carol Ericson grabs a reader's attention quickly in CHAIN OF CUSTODY. The story is fast paced and action packed.
Nash Dillon is an interesting character. He sees crime every day, but he's willing to help a friend even when it looks like she could be bordering on the wrong side of the law.
Emily Lang starts out playing a game of subterfuge but it doesn't take long for her true identity to be uncovered and danger to start nipping at her heals.
I recommend this book and the series as a whole to anyone who enjoys a romance mixed with intrigue and suspense.
Intrigue & suspense Since you can read the synopsis of the book above, I won't tell you what the story is about. I will tell you Nash Dillon is a man you will want on your side especially in the town of Paradiso. Emily is a strong female character that works well with Nash. The story is well thought out, the mystery and suspense of the story sweep you up and hold your attention. While the romance between Nash and Emily is there it doesn't slow the pace of the story unfolding. Even though the book is the second in the series it can be read as a stand-alone. Very good afternoon or weekend read!
In "Chain of Custody", Book Two in author Carol Ericson's "Holding the Line Series", border patrol agent Nash Dillon suddenly finds himself as the caretaker of an adorable baby boy while he's also caring for a friend's dog, managing his family's pecan groves, and investigating dangerous drug traffickers. When a beautiful red-headed, green-eyed nanny appears in Paradiso, AZ, at just at the right time, Nash breathes a sigh of relief. Former law officer Emily O'Brien is starting life over as a private investigator. Hired to track baby Wyatt and keep an eye on his mother, Emily poses as a nanny in order to stay close to Wyatt. Jaycee Lemoin, a childhood friend of Nash's younger sister, had left her baby in Nash's care--not the first time he had helped out in a tine of need. Marcus Lanier, who claimed to be Wyatt's father, was a married, big-time businessman from Phoenix, and he had hired Emily to help him gain information against Jaycee for a planned custody battle. Another player in the game is Brett Fillmore, Jaycee's most recent boyfriend--and no stranger to the criminal element--just how does he fit into the overall picture? The attraction between Nash and Emily grows stronger as they spend time together and bond over baby Wyatt--but where is his mother? Just as Nash discovers Emily's true identity, the situation turns from perplexing to perilous, and the two of them must use all of their law enforcement skills to protect the precious child--and each other. If they survive, is there a happy future ahead? I am really enjoying the "Holding the Line Series" from author Carol Ericson--this lady can really write romantic suspense--her involving story lines and well-developed characters will keep readers turning the pages.
Thugs come to Jaycee Lemoin’s apartment waving guns and making threats toward her baby, Wyatt. As soon as they leave, Jaycee takes Wyatt where she thinks he’ll at least be safe. Ex-cop and budding PI Emily Lang isn’t sure of her latest client’s honesty but if following a baby while the father resolves custody pays the bills it’s what she’ll do.
Activity has been on the rise from ‘coyotes’ since they found out several border patrol agents names and addresses, but the last thing Nash Dillion expected to find on his doorstep was a baby. Jaycee was a family friend but leaving her baby for him to care for even if it’s only a day or so is out of bounds and out of Nash’s element.
Though Jaycee provided instructions and necessary items for Wyatt for two days, it’s day four, Nash has to brave the grocery to replenish supplies. Getting close to Wyatt and Nash, Emily pretends to be a nanny. Unaware of the subterfuge, Nash verifies what he can of Emily’s info and hires her. Now there are men with guns at his door.
During her downtime, Emily pries and learns her instincts were at least partially right about her client but she isn’t quite as careful as she should’ve been around Nash or Wyatt. Emily has a lot of explaining to do and right now she can’t think fast enough to keep up with the questions and she’s got to make a move to stay ahead and stay alive. Rating: 4.5stars
Nash has always been a "non-committer" when it comes to the ladies. He doesn't really see himself with a family, at least not for awhile. So, when a baby is dropped off on his doorstep by a childhood friend (who is a real flake!) when he's not even home, he's pretty flustered! He doesn't know anything about taking care of a baby but does his best until a "nanny" pretty much falls in his lap at the grocery store....little does he know Emily is just a PI who is working a case. However, they both want baby Wyatt's safety and when Nash finds out who Emily really is, both of them will stop at nothing to keep Wyatt safe! I liked this second book in the series and it had a lot of action. There were constant questions as to who was after who and it kept you guessing! I liked how Nash's character changed through the book. He was really cute with Wyatt! I'm already looking forward to the next book!
Second in the Holding the Line series, in which Border Patrol agent, Nash Dillon comes home to find a baby on his porch, left there by a friend of his sister. He knows nothing about babies, so when he encounters a woman who claims to be a nanny, he hires her. She's an undercover PI intent on keeping the baby safe for the man who's hired her. But why he wants her to do so doesn't pass the smell test, as Emily soon finds out when she is threatened and the baby is kidnapped not once, but three times!
She has to find the baby and Nash determines he has to help her, too, so off they go, following the GPS tracker attached to the baby's carrier. Except that when they find it, the baby isn't there. No what? Lots of excitement before the story ends.
(4.5)Love the twists and the "who done it" of this book. Mystery, romance and humor. Emily Lang made me smile several times and I really like Nash in this book more than what was alluded too in book 1. Even though this is a series each book is a fantastic stand alone, no worries there so don't let that hold you back. I fell in love with little Wyatt myself and I love strong independent woman who can still show their feminine side. This was a well rounded book that fed my intrigue and romance soul. Thank you for the arc! All thoughts and opinions are my own and I can't wait for the next one in the series.
If like me you read the first one you had to not miss this one. What a surprise to find a baby on your doorstep. Nash gets that but needs a bit of help so he gets it with Emily. Another surprise is to come his way with us by now so hooked we can not spin the pages fast enough. We are soon given a dose of mystery that has danger right behind it. I say Wyatt is one lucky baby on one hand but he will need all the help he can get. Suspense starts climbing the charts as you get deeper into this. The right mixture of romance is in this also. You are given the works when reading this so satisfaction comes after the many pulls to the edge.
I liked this story. It had alot happening from the beginning of the story. The center of the story was a little guy named Wyatt. The ones protecting him were Nash Dillon and Emily Lang. There was a lot of action and who done it in this story. There was many smaller plots in this story. Carol manages to keep you following the story til the end. There is a bit of a weird ending but otherwise its good. I like the story and will be watching for the next one. J
This was a well-written, entertaining book. Emily is an investigator posing as a nanny to gather information for her latest assignment. Nash discovers his childhood friend has left her baby on his doorstep, and he needs a nanny fast! Neither of them know what they have gotten involved in, and they are going to have to trust each other if they are going to make it through. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.
I really enjoyed this intriguing mystery of danger and a helpless baby. What's a man to do, when he has a baby laid at his door step, from a friend who has disappeared. In comes a so called nanny, who bonds right away with the baby and the hero. What's going on in this dangerous situation? While not for the under 18 readers, lots of violence and some sexual content, I've given this a 4.7* rating. You'll have to read to get the whole story. Enjoyed the ending too.
A child abandoned, its Mother gone missing, a Border Patrol agent trying to figure out what’s going on. Nash Dillon is trying to locate Jaycee, a childhood friend of his sister, after she leaves her son on his doorstep. Emily Lang, an investigator posing as a Nanny, is trying to keep an eye on the baby on behalf of its ‘Father’. But nothing adds up, the facts don’t jive. It isn’t until Emily tells Nash her true purpose that they can work together to keep baby Wyatt safe.
Suspenseful, heart wrenching, and hold-your-breath action keeps this story exciting.
Compulsively readable--especially the first half. The second half gets a little bogged down because Ericson doesn't have that many words to work with, but all in all a good book. Bonus: according to my son the hero on the cover looks like Prince Harry.
