Widowed single mom Hailey moves to Bellfrey where her aunt has offered her and her daughter a place to stay and when she goes to open her bakery she needs some repairs done. Sam is the local handyman who has purchased a home with the thoughts of having his own family and Hailey sure looks like the one he wants. Can Hailey and Sam work together to make a family?

Good Story, but Punctuation a Real Problem

This is a sweet little Christmas novella revolving around a widowed young mother and her adorably precocious daughter, Sage, and handyman Sam. Two years after the passing of her husband of only six months, Hailey takes her aunt up on an offer to live with her in a small town. Hailey's dream of opening a bakery, and she will do so now as she starts the next chapter of her life. Due to a minor fire, the space has been left empty for some time. Sam is hired by the building's owner to get the place ready. Sam's a serious guy, always thinking of his next date in terms of whether she will be the future Mrs. Sam. He's even recently bought a new home that's too large for a single guy, with the hopes of it turning into a family home one day. In the couple's meet-cute, they literally run into each other; it even happened the second time they meet. They have gentle chemistry which is fun to watch play out.

The only true drawback I saw in this book was that it desperately needed a copyeditor or proofreader. Extra words were problematic, and comma mistakes were rife, enough for it to sometimes cause issues with meaning. It was certainly distracting. Commas weren't used after long introductory phrases or between independent clauses in a compound sentence. There are also missing around forms of address. They were just missing a lot of places. Surprisingly, one showed up in the middle of a word. I do get ARCs (advance review copies), but I did check the 10% at Amazon; the mistakes I had seen in that first portion were still in the published book. This author has potential, but it is not yet fully realized.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

This is a sweet holiday romance with strong , likable characters in Hailey and Sam. The author does a beautiful job bringing the two together with the help of some friends after a misunderstanding. She brings the holiday spirit to life with new friends, family and love. It's well written, moves quickly and smoothly and I enjoyed reading.

Christmas Cookie is the first book in the Bellfrey Romance series and is a sweet holiday romance. The characters are warm, charming, and lovable. The storyline is well written and flows nicely throughout, with a fresh start for Hailey and Sage, humour, misunderstandings, friends, family, and a chance for a new life and love with Sam.

I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Sam and Hailey were a cute couple to get to know. Hailey and her adorable daughter Sage have had some rough years but are hopeful for the future. Sam wants the perfect future but doesn't know how to make it happen. When these two meet, they don't start off on the greatest footing. Even with a hiccup or two, they made a cute couple. This is a sweet Christmas story of new beginnings!

For a short story it was great! There is promise of future stories with all the characters in this book. It reminded me of a Christmas Hallmark movie, which is what i love watching at Christmas time. Cosy reading at its best!
