I had a chance, once, to play the good girl. I could’ve kept my mouth shut and stayed out of the line of fire. Had I done that, more people might’ve been hurt. So, I came forward and subsequently, I lost everything I’d ever loved.
I lost my family. I lost my home. I lost my identity. I lost … them.
But now they’re back. At least, I think they are. I can feel their eyes watching my every movement, stalking me. They aren’t here to threaten me or to hurt me. They’re here to protect me. To watch over me. Because to them, I’m everything they desire.
I am their love. I am their hate. I am their infatuation. Their sweet possession.
How long can they stand to stay in the shadows when a new danger threatens to tear us apart again?
Lucy Smoke, also known as Lucinda Dark for her fantasy works, has a master’s degree in English and is a self-proclaimed creative chihuahua. She enjoys feeding her wanderlust, cover addiction, as well as her face, and truly hopes people will stop giving her bath bombs as gifts. Bath’s get cold too fast and it’s just not as wonderful as the commercials make it out to be when the tub isn’t a jacuzzi.
When she’s not on a never-ending quest to find the perfect milkshake, she lives and works in the southern United States with her beloved fur-baby, Hiro, and her family and friends.
Sweet Possession starts off with the heroine, America, being forced into the witness protection program after testifying against her father for a murder she witnessed. It isn't clearly stated but readers can assume that her father is a part of the Italian Mafia and that she was unaware of that dark part of her life. For five years she lives under a new identity and with all communication cut off from her old life. This includes her 3 boyfriends, Ian, Archer, and Jensen. Things then get a little angsty when her boys pop back in her life, having tracked her and watched her from afar for a while. This is a reverse harem with Mafia themes.
This one was a bit hard for me to get through initially. It might be a case of "it's not you, it's me" but something wasn't clicking for me. The boys came in hot, wanting the relationship to pick up where it left off. There are a few flashback scenes that were helpful after they're reunited but I still felt like I was missing something. The story didn’t flow smoothly to me.
I liked the overall plot and when the drama and steam picked up, I enjoyed how the story unraveled despite the ending feeling rushed.
I'm always on the hunt for a great standalone reverse harem story and I was so happy when I found this first book in a standalone series. Also, its about stalkers which is one of my favorite tropes in dark romance.
I loved America and her 3 men. Ian is the perfect possessive dom boyfriend/leader of the group and I loved how he would push America to be her strongest self. Archer was the cute one of the group and Jensen was the perfect mix of the two. America could be incredibly stubborn at times but it didn't really bother me because she had been on her own, on the run for 5 years and learned to depend on just herself.
The ending was so great, especially that little hint as to whats to come in the next story!

I would have realllllyyy enjoyed this book, BUT there’s a few things I just can’t get passed.
1. Honestly, it seems as if Mare is mostly in love and dating Ian and he’s just sharing her with his friends. I felt like everything was Ian Ian Ian and the she was basically only with the other two for the sex. I didn’t feel that great of a “love” connection between them and I don’t like that there was obvious favoritism in her harem. 2. Sex. I’m sorry but I need some heat in my books and you can’t tell me that after 5 years of being apart... how the hell did they not rip her clothes off when she was basically begging for it. No, they just kept putting it off or Ian decided she needed punishment rather than an orgasm. Eh, boring. 3. The ending. This is supposedly a standalone but yet we’re left with a cliffy of them getting a phone call and there obviously being something majorly wrong going on and then it ends. This is obviously setting the next book up about a different group of lovers, but it just left this book open ended to me. 4. The big finale felt rushed. The main point of the book was her being on the run from her father. the big showdown with her dad happened in the epilogue and it was super quick. She went into the witness protection because she snitched on her father because she’s a good person and couldn’t deal with the evil that he was... but now she’s just gonna waltz in and take over his shady businesses? The very aspect she didn’t like about her father, she’s gonna just continue his work? Well that’s a huge personality flip. I know the girls been through a lot but one thing I liked about her was that even though she fought to survive on her own, she still had that innocence of being a good person. But now it’s just no big deal to take over her dads mob business and she doesn’t even question the fact that her men are mercenaries. No big deal. I’m not saying she should leave them, but dang I expected a little more of a reaction. She turned her father in for murder..... but has no issue being with murderers? Makes no sense but okay.
Overall, this book just wasn’t a hit for me in the plot/character development department and that makes me sad because I’ve read other books by this author and loved them.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I initially thought this was going to be a trilogy, but later realized it's a series of stand-alones; although they are linked, in a way. With that said, I thought it was well done for being so short.
I loved the Hs and for that alone, wish the story was either longer or at least a duet. Sure, there were some leaps to get things wrapped up, but I didn't mind it so much. I thought Mare was a strong and feisty h, and solid as a character. There was one bit that I didn't really agree with, as far as her reaction, but it was a minor thing overall.
The ending was really fucking abrupt and that had me literally going 'Really? That's the end?'. I can definitely see how that may ruffle feathers and drop stars lol. The last few lines lays the groundwork (if one can even call it that with how random it was) for the next group's story, but I wish they could have done more to truly wrap things up. It's a disservice to Mare and her guys, for sure.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but wish we got more. I would still recommend it, but don't go in with high expectations.
I 100% love Lucy Smoke and AJ Macey on their own so finding out they co-wrote a novel together had me squealing. This story was fun, fast-paced, and full of drama and heat hitting all of my sweet spots; I seriously enjoyed the hell out of this cast of characters. Mare was feisty, quick, and a perfect match for the guys who were some bada** alpha heroes. I absolutely fell head over heels in love with each one of them, and holy moly did they ratchet up the heat factor. And when Mare's past comes back to haunt her? What a freaking ride.
This book was steamy, fun, and a great collab by two awesome authors. I can't wait to see what these two cook up next but in the meantime if you need me, I'll be rereading this book so I get some more time with Archer and the other guys. I miss them (and their snarky personalities) already.
**Many thanks to the authors for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review**
They liked watching me, and I liked being watched.
Holy smokes was this RH read GOOD! Right of the bat you're left feeling the suspense. It instantly grabs you and has you wanting more. I mean it's that simple to explain it.
America was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because of that, she tried to right her fathers wrongs, which ultimately led her to have to go into witness protection, leaving the only life she knew behind and her men. And her men? Ian, Jensen, and Archer are not too pleased. So what do normal guys do when the love of their life suddenly leaves? Oh, they find her. They watch her. They make sure she's protected. That is until Mare decides she needs a little extra cash and the guys just weren't having that. After years of Mare being alone, they're suddenly thrust back into her life, and she's teetering on wanting to protect them but also wanting her guys back. Ian, Jensen, and Archer aren't the typical, crazy stalkers. Oh no, they genuinely love America.
Sweet Possession is book one in a standalone series, and I’m stuck on this Lucy Smoke binge that has me venturing out of my normal reads.
This book is seriously HOT! AJ and Lucy are a force when it comes to them writing together. I mean 3 hot, domineering alphas, and a stubborn heroine put together in a story full of action, suspense, steam, love, and everything else under the sun? PERFECT. Each man had their own personality and Archer? Oh, he’s lovely. I can’t get over how soft they get for her yet how protective and dominating at the same time. It's legit the perfect mix. And when they call her Mare? *Swoon*
This book leaves off in the perfect place for where book two can pick up. And I’m just so excited to see what the rest of this story has in store for us.
FREAKING OUTSTANDING!!! Holy hellhounds! This immensely talented, gifted and dynamic duo displays one breathless wonder, taking down the dregs, sealing the cracks and fusing the crannies with this engaging speil testing the strength and weighing the odds. Satisfying is an understatement, you guys are not going to believe how this installment plays out. Delivering well rounded scenario's so intense you feel the pulse racing, electrifying hum running rampant through your viens. Hurdling trials and tribulations along with a few bumps and bruises send this bad boy skyrocketing. One chaotic ride rounding up the shenanigans, sequestering the mayhem blowing this baby wide open. Sparks fly as drama, intrigue, danger and suspense ensues in epic proportions. The chemistry is intense, sizzling and palpable. The characters are authentic, genuine and realistic with depth and qualities that blend into amazing personalities. The scenes are so vividly detailed it gives the illusion you were right there standing in the middle of ground zero with them. Fantastic job guys, thanks for sharing this little gem with us.
Ok wow Sweet Possession was super flaming HOT really loved everything about this book it would be the first story that I've read by the author and I can't wait to read more by Lucy Smoke in the future . I'm a lover of reverse harem books really liked all the heroes they were both individually perfect for the heroine and put together they just made it amazing . Loved that we get all the heroes point of views just to show how different they are from one another and how similar . I can't wait to read more by the author and hope this isn't the last we see of the characters .
when i first read the blurb for this book, i was a little apprehensive. i’ve read a few stalker romance books that were borderline abusive, and that had dominant guys who were all about ‘breaking’ the FMC. while there is nothing wrong with these books, it’s just not my cup of tea 🤷🏻♀️
however, this was written quite tastefully, and also had a healthy dom/sub relationship between one of the men and the FMC. It was made clear that they respected her boundaries, that she was their equal even if she was a sub in the bedroom, and that they respected her needs. there was a part where Ian and Mare made clear her consent was always required, and they had safe words, which are more rare in books then i would expect to be. there were also a lot more aspects of the book i really enjoyed.
there were a few things that brought this book’s rating down for me, and that was the repetitiveness. we’d see one scene from mares pov, and then we’d see the same scene (or most of it) from the guys or vise versa. these authors did a great job of showing (rather than telling) us the characters feelings that even when it was another’s pov, i understood them. so to me this felt a little redundant.
another thing that brought it down is that while we were told they were close, and had some flashbacks to the past, at certain points it felt like sex was all they had in common. towards the end there were more romantic moments, but i still would’ve liked to see more flashbacks of their actual relationship from the past, and not just the kinky sex. (which was great, don’t get me wrong)
I also wasn’t a that big of a fan of the ending. while it kinda wrapped up their story, i would’ve appreciated a little more closure, even if they are a big part of the next book. as this is a standalone in a shared universe, i would’ve liked to see maybe an epilogue a few months/ years later that didn’t give anything else away but still had a neat, clean ending.
overall, i think that this book is definitely worth reading, and i honestly enjoyed it. it was a unique take on a very overdone trope, and i am glad i made the decision to read it. These authors are both super talented, and i have really liked books by both of them separately, and i think they made a great team!
I love this book so hard. It was not one that I was expecting. The synopsis leaves a lot to be discovered during the book, but just enough to intrigue you. Which is how my review will follow. Spoiling isn't cool, especially when I really love the story.
America tries to do the right thing; and it ends up blowing up her entire life. The biggest issue? The three guys she left behind and the promise she broke in doing so. She knows someone is watching her-- after all this time... could it be them?
I absolutely loved the story line. Truly, one of my favorites. This is a medium burn in my opinion, RH, so if this isn't your cup of tea, then don't pick the book up. The boys are amazing, but Ian is mine so everyone just needs to step back. The authors weaved the storyline together and set up the next book brilliantly. This is a standalone in a series of standalone books. I'm really excited for the next installment.
After Mare witnesses something she wasn’t supposed to her life is altered and it’s not going to be the same again, that is until she thinks her past as found her present. This story was so steamy and I devoured it, I’m not a huge fan of reverse harems but it worked perfectly in this story
I absolutely love Lucy’s books and this one did not disappoint. It was full of twists and turns, spice and action! I loved the characters and the connection between them. Just when I thought I had the plot figured out BAM! There’s new surprises.
Just dark enough for what I was looking for. I wishes the authors had given us a bit more of the past so I could be more appreciative of the present. But I liked the guys well enough. We don’t know that much about them but I admired their determination and dedication. They were very protective and present for America.
Good writing and interesting story. Not the ending I was expecting but still satisfying. Nice story.
This is the first book in the new Criminals Underground series and let me say, what a freaking start! I loved it. I loved everything about it. And let me tell you, it was freaking HOT HOT HOT!!!
This series is a collection of standalones following different crews of criminals meaning the stories can be read separately and in any order. Not all of the books in this series will be Rh, just so you know.
Sweet Possession is about America. She witnesses her father murder someone and, being the good girl that she is, reports it to the police. This lands her in witness protection. Leaving behind everything she had ever known, including her three boyfriends. Five years later she is struggling in her new life. That is when her past decides to come back to her.
Now Mare is the daughter of a mobster and she is pretty tough. She doesn't just welcome her past back into her life with open arms. She knows the danger her life in constantly in and she doesn't want to drag anyone else into it. If she only knew the truth about the three guys that she had made an arrangement with so many years ago. They have a secret and eventually, they are going to have to let her in. Until then, they are doing everything they can to keep her safe. I don't think any of them saw the danger that was laying in wait for Mare though. I mean, we as readers kinda had an idea of where it was going but I still don't think anyone knew it would play out that way.
Now let's talk sexy times really quick. Ian is our Alpha Dom and Mare is a sub. So there are some pretty hot and intense sexy times. That's not everyone's thing and that is OK. Not everyone likes a good spanking. If you do, saddle up cause it was HOT.
The end of this book looks like it will lead us into the next one and I can't WAIT to see what we get into next. I've always had a taste for the bad boys and these criminals so far are super yummy.
This book is seriously HOT! I had an idea of what this book was going to be about but it actually surprised me when it turned out to be different than what I expected. There was quite a lot of mystery which opened the door to so many questions. I actually got a little confused at times, wondering whether this was the second book to a series or duet. The book is predominately set in present times but there are flashbacks and memories which help with the back story. America is the daughter of a mobster and when she witness's her father murdering someone, she makes the grave mistake of turning him in to the police which results in her being relocated as part of witness protection. She leaves behind 3 men who spend the next 5 years watching her until the time is necessary to reveal themselves to keep her safe. We soon find out who these men are and their relationship with America and to be honest, I would have loved to know more of their history. We only get such a small snippet. But I tell you what, their relationship in the present gets insanely hot!!! This is one book you will devour in hours. Such an addicting, mysterious, suspenseful and steamy read.
This is my first book by either author, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has everything a good book needs. We get suspense, mystery, 3 hot AF alpha men, and 1 sassy heroine. Throw in the smoking hot times between the 4 of them that I'm pretty sure could melt your reading devices and you get this book. Now America is not your typical young lady. Her life takes a dramatic turn when she stumbles upon something she should not have. I will say she rebounds back and does what she needs to do. Now without giving anything away I will say her strength and self preservation make her one bad a$$ chick. Enter the Ian, Archer, and Jensen what can say about these 3 except DAMN!! They have always been there for America in 1 way or the other. Nothing will stop these 3 from doing exactly what needs to be done. What happens when America's past reappears? I am telling you, you need to grab a copy to find out. I am not lying when I said this book has everything. I was enthralled from the beginning to end. The suspense had me turning the pages. I needed to know what was going to happen. I needed to see just how the 4 of them were going to navigate their relationship.
Sweet Possession was a different take on a stalker romance. Where the stalker started with the love interest and changed to the enemy. I loved how AJ Macey and Lucy Smoke did this. I have never seen that done before and piqued my interest immensely.
After Mare has seen something she shouldn't she's forced to disappear. Doing so though has left behind some very important people in her life. They didn't take that lying down and continued to follow her to keep her safe. I loved following their story, seeing all the different characteristics to them and how they fit with Mare. The dynamic between them was so steamy too, I was loving it all. I have to say, I may favor Ian. No, not may, Ian is mine. No one else can have him.
Absolutely enjoyed this steamy, sexy, stalker romance!
This story was full of suspense, thrills, twists and a whole lot of very sexy and highly erotic moments. There was so much drama and heat packed into this story that you will not be able to put this one down! The characters and plot were intense and well written keeping you captivated and highly entertained. There is nothing better than a mob story with a twisty ending and this one was fantastic.
Mare is feisty, witty and the perfect match for her super sexy alpha men. Together they make one hell of a badass family! I fell hopelessly head over heels in love with each one of these amazing characters. The love they have for one another is super intense and leaves you breathless at times.
These two amazing authors know just what their readers like sex, murder and mayhem all packed into one suspenseful and highly thrilling story! I can't wait to see what these two come up with for the next installment of this series as it is sure to be as amazing as this one. I loved every second of it.
What a great read! Lucy and A.J. make an awesome writing duo. This book had twists and turns, mystery, revenge, steamy scenes, and more! It held my attention from start to finish and even when life pulled me away from reading, I couldn't help thinking about this book and what came next. And if you like strong, bratty FMC, you will love Mare! Plus, that hint at the end about the next book in the universe - I already need it.
Quick & Dirty Details: - Reverse Harem Stalker Romance - 3 Guys - a few years older than FMC in their late twenties - Med-fast burn - Light BDSM - Multi POV - Standalone in a bigger criminal universe - Triggers: violence, stalking, attempted rape
Holy schnikes this book was intense. Mare is in wit-pro because she snitched on her dad’s mobster activities. She’s been in wit-pro for five years. Left everyone behind including her three boyfriends Ian, archer, and jensen. Ian is the dom alpha of the group. Archer and Jensen are the dominate balance to Ian’s dom tendencies. The guys have been tracking and watching mare basically the whole time. They make themselves known when a threat to mare presents itself. The twists and turns keep you on your toes. And don’t get me started on the sexy times. Hot hot hot. Overall this book was amazing. I can’t wait to read more in this series. They are standalone but in the same universe. This book ends where the next one will pick up. I’m thinking it’s going to be about wolf, Diablo and possibly someone else with Scarlett obviously in the mix.

This book exceeded my expectations. I was worried it would fit the norm as part of its plot being within the witness protection. And while yes she is in it, not this was not an ordinary book! This book was filled with lots of intimate scenes between 3 strong headed doms and one ‘bratty’ sub. Now I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but it sure was mine. The explicit scenes were carefully written and worded to make you feel apart of it while also cheering on our main character Mare. With 3 strong, possessive men in her life Mare’s background has no chance against her. The action that filled the end of this book was nail biting and left me ready for more. Overall a fantastic “quickly” of a read;)
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
America, a.k.a. Mare, grew up fearful of her father. Somethings happen and fast-forward, Mare is now living under the alias 'Mary'. As Mary, she lives a life of struggle, going paycheck to paycheck, barely scrounging by. That is until, her three lovers from her life as America enter her world again. From here, Sweet Possession is like a lifetime movie network thriller. You heart will be pounding. Plus her she has one dominant, one flirtatious panty-melter, and one soft as a teddy bear and sweet as candy lover. With these three back, its sure to be interesting. I loved this book and will be reading more of this series, though Sweet Possession is a standalone with a HFN/HEA ending.
*Spoiler Alert* America (FMC) hasnt had an easy life. After testifying against her mob boss father then ending up on the witness protection programme (being forced to leave everyone she cares for) when he gets off with the charges she has to recover a semblance of a normal life. Even with the threats of vengeance from her father. Except the past has a habit of catching up with you and hers comes in the form of Ian, Jensen & Archer. 3 guys who have no intention of letting her go this time (she was in a relationship with them before). Blimey did these 4 steam up my kindle! Taking care of her gives new meaning with these 3 guys. So good and a great read too
I was so excited to read this book from two of my favourite authors and it didn't dissappoint.
America the daughter of a criminal mob boss, ends up n witness protection and having to leave three men without a goodbye. She's now a struggling waitress, with the sense of being watched. I loved the guys and their possessive feelings towards Mare. I loved the dynamic of their group and the touches of bdsm. I loved the development of Mare becoming herself again after living as Mary for so many years. Great story, I am very excited to read more books set in the criminal underground.
Sooooo I devoured this book. This is my first of AJ's and I will definitely be checking her out after this. Lucy is an automatic read for me, so I knew I was already going to love it. The reunion with Mare and her guys....like I had to work later that day because I couldn't stop reading on my lunch break. Phew, needed a cold shower hahaha 🔥🔥🔥. I loved the possessiveness of these guys, the storyline was exciting and intriguing. I like Mare and loved that she could stand up for herself but eventually let her walls fall back down with her guys. I definitely had a hangover after this one, took me awhile to get into the next book ❤️
