Alexei Dvorkin has come a long way since being turned into a metahuman, and all he wants to do is marry the man he loves. A wedding is easy, but it’s the honeymoon where his and Sean’s past unexpectedly catches up with them.
All Sean Delaney wanted was a romantic honeymoon with his new husband. When he and Alexei stumble into a fellow operative’s mission on a luxury gambling resort island, they get more than they bargained for in their newly-minted civilian lives.
Forced to choose between staying and joining the mission or leaving to stay safe and postpone their honeymoon, Alexei and Sean make the only decision they can—to fight.

"Try to have honeymoon, keep getting interrupted."
With 'Trouble' basically being Alexei and Sean's middle name, I was somewhat shocked but eternally grateful that the wedding itself and the ensuing wedding night proceeded without things that go boom - ahem, other than those that are liable to do so during a wedding night *cough* - and any dead bodies showing up...
The honeymoon was a different story entirely, though. When an old nemesis picked their honeymoon location of all things to do some shady business and an old ally and fellow Metahuman gets them roped into his attempt at stopping this guy once and for all by dangling his name right under their noses, all bets are off. Getting reluctantly pulled out of their well-nigh retirement - and what's more, out of their bed, thank you very much! - everything ends up in utter chaos and probably the shortest honeymoon in the history of honeymoons with their lives once more on the line...
Aww, my boys are married now!!!! We celebrated a dream wedding with everyone - friends, families and the whole former Alpha Team present and accounted for, umm, including me - and I felt like a proud momma leading the baby of the family to the altar. Perfect wedding vows were perfect and the ceremony couldn't have been any better if I had planned it myself. ;-) The rest was the familiar fun times with explosions, shootouts, extraordinary Metahuman abilities and hot pursuits wrapped up in humor, sweetness and time for hot and sweaty smexy times. Oh, and not to forget a certain thirteenth heir to the British throne who hopefully -well, that's me begging here!!! - finally found his equally sexy and hot-headed love interest in an MI6 spy also known as an utter pain in his arse. Liam's words, not mine. ;-) I'm sensing banter of epic proportions here, so I can't wait to read more!!!
I think it's needless to say that I loved the whole package, except for it once again being a bit too short, but that's just greedy-me speaking. Another great addition and cherry on the (wedding) cake for fans of The Metahuman Files.
***ARC generously provided to me by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!***
As my Metahumans OTP, I was in my heart-eyed element reading this novella, watching two of my fave book boyfriends pledge their hearts and souls forever to each other.
It was all things sweet and romantic, with a few nicely timed explicit scenes that reminded me just why these two reign superior for me in this series.
There’s a dash of honeymoon action too, but it’s brief and not as stressful as most of the things these guys have been through throughout the larger series. But it served as a nice little set-up for the events of the final novel, In the Solace, which I’m now keen to read.
If this is the last focal point for Alexei and Sean in the series, I’m glad they got to go out on a loving high, well on their way to a wonderful and well-deserved HEA. ❤️
Alexei is incorrigible. Yeap. I don’t know why, I don’t know how, but he manages to melt my heart every single time. Big time.
Is it his possessiveness? The 100% loyalty for the ones he loves? His one- way mind when it comes to sex? His passion and love for HIS guy? His little (horrendous) guilty pleasures like gold chains and big showy rings? (I have no idea why I find the last one ‘adorable’ on him, when I have a pet hate for that stuff?) His (brilliantly executed) accent? His sense of duty. His dedication to do the right thing.
I have NO idea. It is probably all of that stuff and more! All I can do is agree with Sean, the guy he marries in this novella (in case you didn’t know😀😉), I would love to see him again in those white little swimming trunks!
Loved the whole thing – just a shame it is so short! And I was so glad they did get their honeymoon in the end! 😍
I had so much fun reading this story! All through the series, Alexei grew on me - his gruffness and unabashed attitude made me love him so much! All was calm before the storm. Even though the events leading up to their wedding and the wedding itself were smooth sailing, Sean and Alexei found themselves in the middle of the mission which wasn't even their own. Poor guys! If Alexei got interrupted one more time, I thought he might set someone on fire! LOL
The wedding vows were so romantic! *le sigh* And the author recounted all the characters from the series and who they were with which was awesome for me. Of course, Alexei stole the show every time with his sometimes inappropriate but in a good way humor and how tender he was with Sean. And Sean in return was just as caring. I loved their teasing and all the affection they showered each other with.
It didn't hurt that both men caught in on some action provided by HRH Liam aka Knight. It was every bit as fast-paced and thrilling as I know Ms Turner can make it. Plus Alexei's accent was drool worthy. I loved this novella to bits! I highly recommend it! Copy received for my honest and unbiased review
I loved this book. I know no one is surprised to hear it, because the Metahuman Files series is one of my all time favorites. Turner has managed to build such a magnificent world and weave her characters into it with a skill we don’t get to see all the time. It was a truly satisfying novella.
Sean and Alexei have been through so much. They’ve had the worst happen to them, and they’ve managed to battle back and make their love even stronger. To see them finally get married is a real treat, and I love how much they love each other. Their devotion to each other is fantastic, and even as they face a new predicament, that love shines through.
As always, the author ties together an action plot with real love and some seriously erotic moments. These guys have passion for miles, and it shows in everything they do. Not just with each other, though that’s probably my favorite part, but also with their dedication to the job…even if they are no longer technically active with the MDF. If I was less than satisfied with any bit of this story, it was with the ending of the mission. But at the same time, I knew it couldn’t be any other way when it happened.
What a delightful little addition to this series, with Alexei and Sean getting married and going on their honeymoon, where they run into trouble basically right away, as it tends to happen in these books.
It was nice to see these two finally get married and be so happy, and it had some story as they tried to capture the CIA guy who betrayed them all, as he is still on the loose.
We get to check in with the others in the beginning of this, and we get to see Liam (who might possible have a LI...would love to see a book with them if that is at all possible...maybe a future Classified book if not a full one), but for the more part this is about Alexei and Sean, and them getting their honeymoon interrupted.
It was a fun, short little story and I just adore these two together, as always. And I always love their slight kink with looking at each in a mirror when fucking - it's super hot ;).
I could read a million books in this world and never get tired of it. This made my closure-needy heart very happy and it was a delight to get to spend more time with these two as they tied the knot. I'm dying for a Liam/Oliver book and, of course, Jamie and Kyle's wedding.
4 stars for the narrator and story. I love Alexei and Sean. Reading about their wedding made me happy. Knowing chaos would find them on their honeymoon was a given. I'm just glad to have had more time with them together 💜
Yup if Alexei and Sean are in the book it makes it amazing.
Reread same rating.
Love Alexei and Sean Period.
4 stars
Always love getting to be with Alexei and Sean they are by far my favorite couple, the sass of Alexei and the boy next door attitude from Sean is perfect.
I loved this but always wished it was longer.
I will see how Liams book turns out since we catch glimpses of the love interest in this one with him.
Year: 2286 Earth. A wonderful addition to the Sci-Fi Metahuman Files series. We get to see the Team members, who each have a different super power, as they are all attending the wedding of Alexei and Sean. Russian, Alexei, with his sexy accent, code name Inferno, and Sean, former CIA, code name Wraith, are happy and excited to seal the deal.
There is a surprise waiting when they get to their Mediterranean honeymoon island, but not a good one. We do get to see the high tech gadgets, action, suspense, thrills, and of course super hot sexiness. These two men really scorch the sheets, glass wall, shower, etc....
Our fierce fighting team members help with the op to catch the bad guy, with explosions, a destroyed yacht, and a hole in the bio-dome ! Fortunately the honeymoon re-starts and more sexy times return. Their passion is intense and meaningful.
Each story can stand alone, but I have read the whole series, which has been fantastic. Highly recommended. ENJOY !
Greg Boudreaux narration of Alexis and Sean emotional wedding , hot AF , honeymoon and all the naughtiness, shenanigans, explosions both figurative and literally that ensued was awesome.
I liked it even though Alexei's English really started bothering me in this one, I feel like his accent is even more exaggerated than in the first Metahumans book. Anyway, I look forward to Liam's book! I hope it'll be more than a novella, I want a sweet slow burn with lots of sexual tension!
Alexei and Sean's wedding!!! FIRE IN THE HEART brings us this beautiful moment and I'm so glad we got to see their wedding. Alexei and Sean have been through so much across this series and they deserve their happiness together. Of course things go a little sideways on their honeymoon when they get pulled into a mission with Colonel Liam Wessex. A little bit of action and a sexy romance made for another amazing book in the METAHUMAN FILES series.

“Dinner ran long because Alexei wanted dessert twice,” Sean replied.
Caleb made a pained face. “Please tell me that’s not a euphemism.”
I love these bite-sized snippets into the lives of the now-retired Alpha Team and this one's a real doozy as Alexei and Sean get married and get dragged into an op while on honeymoon.
Also loving seeing more of Liam Wessex (can we please get his story soon Hailey 😁 ) and I'm totally onboard for it being with the stuffy MI6 agent!
This was a rollercoaster of steaming hot emotional sex - between my two fave characters in this excellent urban fantasy/sci-fi combo series - and action-packed mission daring do.
A look at Sean and Alexei directly after the events of In The Requiem. As well as the set up for the last pairing, one Lt. Colonel Liam Wessex and Agent Oliver Archer of MI6 in In The Solace. My love for S&A is well established, but this was the perfect way too peak my interest in Liam and Oliver and their enemies-to-lovers story and the conclusion to the Metahuman Files series.
I've given this an A for narration and a B+ for content at AudioGals.
Note: I originally reviewed all three in the set together
Here’s a little treat (well, three little treats!) for anyone (like me!) suffering withdrawal symptoms after Hailey Turner’s fabulous Metahumans Files series came to an end earlier this year – the novellas that slot into the later part of the story arc. Unsurprisingly, these won’t work as standalones as they assume listeners know who these people are and The Story So Far, so if you’re intrigued, I’d strongly recommend going back to the beginning – In the Wreckage – and working your way through the whole series. The narration is fantastic, the characters are engaging and the stories are action-packed, clever and really well-put together. (Oh, and steamy ;)) If you like military-based romantic suspense stories with a bit of sci-fi thrown in, then you really should check it out.
Note: There will be spoilers for the rest of the series in this review.
Fire in the Heart
Sean and Alexei get married at long last – but although the wedding goes off without a hitch, the same can’t be said for the honeymoon. Arrived at the luxury resort of Fortuna sur Mer off the coast of France, Sean and Alexei are only there a day before it seems their quiet, peaceful together-time is over. Liam Wessex has come to the island following a tip that the traitorous former CIA Deputy Director Carter Bennett is there, too, facilitating an arms deal. Bennett had a hand in the attack on Alexei and Sean in Boston and in the showdown with Pavluhkin that almost turned to tragedy the year before – and there’s no way Alexei and Sean are going to walk away from a chance to bring him down.
Fire in the Heart is typically action-packed and steamy Metahuman Files fare – with explosions, chases, shootouts and superhuman powers, Alexei being, well, Alexei (no idea why he’s so bloody endearing, but he is!) and our first glimpse of Liam’s soon-to-be love interest, MI6 Agent Oliver Archer – and boy, do the sparks fly there! The mission to apprehend Bennett doesn’t go quite to plan, but we’re left with things nicely set up for the events of In the Solace,
I don’t know what I can say about Greg Boudreaux’s performances here that I haven’t said already several times before. He’s been the voice of Jamie and Kyle and Alexei and Sean, and all the other members of Alpha Team since 2018, imbuing them all with personality and life and really bringing out the emotional connections the author has created between them all, the friendships and camaraderie and the deeper romantic feelings between the central couples. He’s clearly completely at home in this universe; the large cast of characters is consistently performed and easily identifiable, the action scenes are well paced, and the love scenes are always on point – sexy and never over the top.
The Metahuman Files is one of the best action/adventure/romance series around; I’ve loved every minute I’ve spent in this world and I revisit my audio collection regularly. If you’re a fan of the series chances are you’ve pounced on these three novellas already (they’re available individually – I just opted to review them all together) – if you haven’t, you should definitely add them to your wish list.
Alexi and Sean get married!!! Of course, nothing with the metahumans ever turns out simple, easy, or relaxing. This entire series of Classified files has been so much fun to listen to. It's been a glimpse into the relationships of couples we've fallen in love with already and progress and follow up is always a great way to share tales of established couples. Absolutely recommended.
Eeee volevo arrivare a leggere questo libro e queste vicende ❤️ Sean e Alexei sono i miei personaggi preferiti dell’intera saga, li adoro e amo la coppia che formano insieme, sono meravigliosi 😍❤️
Good story, although I wish there was more of it. Still, a wedding, some fabulous sex, plus a little bit of action-y goodness. I adore Alexei and Sean, and I really hope this isn't the last time we see the MDF.
I just love this series. I have been following it since the beginning and with each new book I just love the series more and more. This book is more of a novella then it is a book in my opinion but it was such a great read, as always.
This is Sean and Alexei book. Though most of the others from their tennis present at times, it is primarily based around these two men. Now that their wedding day is approaching m, these two men are preparing for the wedding and the festivities that happen beforehand. Neither man can wait to actually be married and look forward to the day itself.
Alexei has been begging Jamie to tell them where he is gifting them to their honeymoon m. Jamie has been keeping the info close to his chest but has finally decided to throw them a bone and tell them where they are going. Both men are so excited and cannot wait to spend their time together away from everyone and everything.
When the wedding is over and the two make it to their destination, they are so excited. What starts out as an incredible time together soon turns to something more dangerous and less fun. One of the men that got away and turned on his country is at their honeymoon destination and so is an old friend, Liam.
Unfortunately Liam recruits Both men to help him and M16 to try and capture Bennett and get him back to where he can be scanned and questioned for his crimes and his knowledge of what may be to come. But this is not going to be an easy capture. What will happen when the fire heats up and these men are caught right in the middle of it? Will this honeymoon end before it ever really got a chance for it to begin?
This was a great short story about Sean And Alexei wedding and honeymoon. I enjoyed this read and as always I cannot wait for the next book in this series comes out to find out what all these men and women will get into next. I look forward to it!!
Wa given this galley copy for free for an open and honest review
When I heard there's a new Classified Novella coming out, I was thrilled. When it turned out to be about Sean and Alexei's wedding, I was over the (honey-)moon.
And Fire in the Heart was exactly as great as expected!
Content warnings include: violence, sex on-page, on-page gambling, hostage situation, burning, electrocution; mentions of terrorism, torture, PTSD, terrorism.
It had all the good things that make a Metahuman Files story: the wonderful large cast, a good dose of action, heart-melting love between the established couple(s), and a lot of money is spent. My one complain would be that it was too short! I would have loved to get even more details (as always), especially about the wedding and the honeymoon and all the things going on around it.
As usual, many of the well-known side characters were present, and there was even a new addition I can't wait to see more of.
While the most important plot-revelant and other details were recapped and I'm sure even readers new to the series would enjoy this story, I do think it's best read in order with the other books and not as a standalone.
I received an ARC and reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Sean and Alexei have been to hell and back, so if anyone deserves a wedding going off without a hitch, it's them! (And I admit they're my favourite of the two main couples in the series).
But a glitch-free honeymoon? Yeah, maybe that was a bit too much to ask!
I'm enjoying these post-In the Requiem novellas that continue the hunt for the Sons of Adam cells and illegal splice factories while also giving readers a peek at life-post MDF for our heroes. And this storyline clearly has legs, as not everything is wrapped up by the end.
I'm guessing (hoping!) a story for Liam (and Oliver? There's some serious UST going on there) may be in the works? ;)
I am so very happy that we get Alexi & Sean's wedding. I love Alexi, he always makes me laugh. And it wouldn't be a honeymoon without gunfire, explosions & a lot of sexy time. And of course Liam pops up to cut into their honeymoon asking for help. I loved seeing everyone.

So much fun to go back to these characters and see Alexi and Sean get married. I have to admit Alexi is probably my favorite character in this series so I loved seeing his happy ending with Sean. Of course it wouldn't be these guys without some adventure/drama and facing off with bad guys on the honeymoon. I also really love Liam so seeing him in this book was lots of fun! Can't get enough of these characters.
