Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.

As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

The big stew boils and thickens and gets increasingly more complex with new ingredients thrown in, until it's almost too big to eat. There's so much going on, so many moving parts, so many things happening that we barely have any time to focus on at any point. Constantly moving on from one scene to another and never getting more than a glimpse of what's going on. It's becoming hard to follow and, I think, serves to the detriment of the story overall.

What's more fun to see is Luffy's shenanigans in prison. He's put in cuffs - and later in an even worse collar - and just couldn't care less, won't let anyone bully him or beat him down, and just keeps doing his own thing no matter what happens. It's great. Queen is great, too: the fact that he's relatively unconcerned by all this serves to build up the power of Kaido and his leadership, even while the little scrubs are being thrown around.

And then Komurasaki. The big reveal of her heritage was no surprise, being properly set up and foreshadowed well before now... but I have to say that I don't like her too much after the fact. Take the mask off, and she ceases to be all stoic and respectable and becomes just another airhead. Bit of a disappointment. But I still like how she gets along with Zoro.

Sad ending, though. I'm glad to see Oda becoming more willing to kill off characters even in the present day, and it's nice to see Orochi get clowned on.

*Spoilers*

Oda before Marine Ford: "Okay, so people in the past may have died, fine, like parental figures in flashbacks can die... But that's it. No one else. NO ONE ON THE MAIN TIMELINE DIES. Not on my watch. No matter how bad the injuries, I don't care, none of my characters will die. Not. One. IT IS NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION."

Oda since Marine Ford: "Hmm, look! A character I created... Imma kill'em! You die! You die! You? You die too! EVERYONE DIES!!! YOU die from a massive hole in your chest in the arms of your little brother, lol! YOU, you get your brains exploded, haha! YOU get your heart crushed! YOU: Suicide Bomber, baby! YOU save your daughter who doesn't even know who you are and get K-I-L-L-E-D! And YOU! Yes YOU! How 'bout you get crucified and shot full of bullets IN FRONT OF YOUR CHILD, MWAHAHAHA!"

Sure man, keep making me cry. It's fine. (It's really not)

“So go ahead and kill me!! Meeting him allowed me to remember the past…It’s been a long time since I, have felt such fulfillment…this is the land of the samurai!! In the past, men like him could be found everywhere in this country!! But you killed them all!!”

“I won’t forgive you for doubting my comrades…alliances without trust might as well not exist. There’s no way I can leave this in your hands”.

“Upon the man whose mind has swollen shut…a lifetime of « Oden » to fill your gut!”

This was an emotional volume man! Oda bringing it in here. It starts off with the usual Luffy trying to escape and battling it out in some sumo ring and learning Haki and we learn of the old man Hyogoro and also seems like he will be battling Queen soon, meanwhile in another place the flower capital is recovering from the loss of Komurasaki and then we have the secrets of Yasuie san and his whole execution thing and the backstory and the moment leading up to it and then what happens afterwards, which was painful to watch. An amazing story for sure and its super emotional and the thing with Toko which was ahh also good. I am loving how Oda is able to make each part of Wano so impactful. Also this story just keeps interesting.

As Luffy and his crew continue to set their plans into motion for freeing Wano, and Law gets his own crew set, their enemies move closer to achieving a momentous victory over the pirates - one that may just cost someone their life. Oda brings more world building and intense emotion with another complex but exciting entry. What sort of limits are the Beast Pirates willing to break to get a win over the Straw Hats?

I really can’t wait for this Wano war. Everyone is hyped up! Even though things didn’t go to plan but some things are coming into their rightful place. I just love how Luffy’s strength of character can bring people together, especially into a greater cause! I just really love Luffy! 😍

There are a LOT of characters and plot threads happening in Wano—even more than is typical for One Piece and it’s kind of difficult to keep track of them all. That said, Zolo is truly being a standout in this arc and has had some awesome moments so far!

WANO COUNTRY ARC - PART 3
1. big mom has amnesia?? poor chopper having to go through ptsd, but what an unforeseen ally (so far) - aaaaaaand luffy.....finished all the.....food again...that big mom wanted.....

2. so eustass kid used to be hawkins' ally, except he is in a prison and hawkins isn't, so who betrayed whom?

3. supreme king...haki....luffy.........[wheeze]

4. i mean, i get it. suddenly, wano country see the shusui sword at the hands of a random pirate, and assume it stolen. i get it. i really do, but ryuma gave that sword to zoro personally :((

5. DUDE, that's so unfair. traffy's crew got caught and law wants to go free them, and everybody is like 'no' (mainly the kunoichi), but WHEN IT'S LUFFY WHO WANTS TO DESTROY PLANS THEN ITS FINE?? grrrrrr

7. i'm surprised zoro doesn't get annoyed by the kid's constant laughter (i am) - okay nevermind, he finally broke LOL (same)

8. HIYORI IS THE COURTESAN??

9. my eye is twitching, why can it not be me who sleeps on zoro's chest

You know, an author is amazing, if he makes you actually sob for a character that was just introduced some pages ago.
Oh, by the way, Oda did that here. Again.

Despite my issues with the bathhouse scene, because I didn’t like it how Oda used Nami for the group to flee, this volume was great. The end was very heartbreaking and I really liked Yasui’s role in the story.
