Now an Amazon bestselling author, Sylvia Price is an author of Amish and contemporary romance and women’s fiction. She especially loves writing uplifting stories about second chances!
Sylvia was inspired to write about the Amish as a result of the enduring legacy of Mennonite missionaries in her life. While living with them for three weeks, they got her a library card and encouraged her to start reading to cope with the loss of television and radio, giving Sylvia a new-found appreciation for books.
Although raised in the cosmopolitan city of Montréal, Sylvia spent her adolescent and young adult years in Nova Scotia, and the beautiful countryside landscapes and ocean views serve as the backdrop to her contemporary novels.
After meeting and falling in love with an American while living abroad, Sylvia now resides in the US. She spends her days writing, hoping to inspire the next generation to read more stories. When she’s not writing, Sylvia stays busy making sure her three young children are alive and well-fed.

I finally read it!!! All I need is book 2 and I am caught up! I loved this book as much as the others I have reviewed in this series. It's a beautiful story. It has a little bit of everything in this book. Faith and love and hope. This book and the others in this series are worth the read.
I received this book as a free choice on one of my book sites. I have been meaning to read it for a long time but it just kept going further and further on my TBR list. Well two night ago I finally said enough and started to read the saga. This is the first book of 5 and starts with an Amish woman who has been very ill and has decided that since she is now well that she wants to go on her Rumspringa which is a time that a young Amish person can decide if they want the English world or the Amish world. We join her as she beings her adventure working at a sewing shop and living above in a small apartment. Electricity is something she knows nothing about, how do you use a phone she wonders and has to learn so she can contact her family. Then one day an angry young man comes in to make a delivery for the shop and he is totally rude to her. Even though she is in the English world she has still decided to dress and act on her Amish principles. She finds out that he is totally against and angry at the Amish and tries to decide if this is her quest from God to bring him back into the fold. She finds that the city is so loud and busy and that she can not really concentrate so she asks her boss where the nearest park is. She heads there so that she can find peace and solace amount the trees and nature. Much to her surprise Jonah shows up and they begin to talk. Starts their adventures together and a fondness and trust develops between them. Now on to book 2.....
i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the first book in the series. In this book, Mary Lou is a young amish girl and decides to go to the city to take part in rumspringa. Mary Lou has a job as a seamstress and an apartment waiting for her. When Mary Lou starts work, she meets Jonah, a delivery man. Mary Lou is surprised when Jonah approaches her one day in the park to tell her it is not safe for her to be alone out in the city. Mary Lou told him she was looking for a quiet spot and he told her he would show her some. Mary Lou learned Jonah was from an amish community further away than hers and that he was shunned. Jonah explained to Mary Lou he wasn't shunned, he just felt he wouldn't return because he felt he was cursed. Mary Lou took it upon herself to show Jonah the way back to his faith and she hopes she can also be a part of his future. This was a sweet story. I liked how Mary Lou calmed Jonah and made him realize he wasn't cursed like he thought. Jonah wanted to return to his faith and i think he thought Mary Lou was going to help him. Good one.
I would have given the book a 5 but it ends in a cliffhanger. It's a clean book and easy read. Jonah leaves his Amish community because of something that happened. His does his work but is a bit short and grumpy with the customers he delivers to. Mary Lou is on her rumspringa in the city where she takes a job as a seamstress. She meets Jonah even before she starts working. Is told he's Amish and is shunned, God tells her to get to know Jonah or at least she thinks that what He is telling her. Can she trust Jonah> Can she get past his bitterness to get to know him? I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors. I loved this book! It grabbed my attention right from the beginning & I could not stop until it was done. This gave a very good view into the heart of Mary Lou, a young Amish girl who had a very open, honest and intuitive way with dealing with Jonah while listening closely to God for guidance. I like the strength she showed by sticking to her faith & way of life while living among the English for her rumspringa. The only part of this book I did not care for was the abrupt way it ended. I know there are other books in this series but it just seems like it could have had a more clear ending, while still making it nearly impossible not to immediately get the next book in the series. I would still recommend this, just that they get the second book right with the first!
This book is a quick and enjoyable read, but it ends on a cliffhanger. (There are more books like this continuing the story.) Personally, I think the books should be joined into one (or at least have a solid ending), and that is the reason for the four stars instead of five. I was totally drawn into the characters and the relationships within the story, and I am looking forward to learning what happens in the next installment! The romance is clean, and readers get a glimpse into Amish life and values. And I do like seeing the faith of characters, especially when it has the ability to challenge my own faith.
This very short Amish story is about a young woman, who on her Rumspringa, comes across another Amish young man who left his community over the accidental death of his sister. In the big city, she makes an effort to come to know him and guide him. Her saccharin sweet personality, along with continuous Bible and community ideologies, entices her to quit her Rumspringa and return with him to meet her parents just to be met by another tragedy (which is left up in the air as a cliffhanger unless the next book is bought). A bit depressing and unresolved overall for those who enjoy an upbeat ending and/or closure in a book.
I just love Sylvia Price's books because they get to the heart of what troubles the human soul. Jonah's Redemption is a classic example of this gift of hers.
I'm not going to give away the story but suffice it to say that the book looks at how much we judge ourselves. Instead of trusting a Higher Power, we go flying off, believing ourselves to be doomed.
I was inspired, uplifted and soothed by the story, even though it isn't finished. I'm going to keep reading the series to find out what happens in the end.
I highly recommend her books, especially the Christmas stories. They are suitable for most ages over 12.
When Mary Lou turned 18, she was allowed to have her rumspringa to see if she wanted to commit to the Amish way of life for the rest of her life. She leaves home and takes a job in town as a seamstress. When she meets Jonah, she feels God speaking to her in a special way. He is troubled by something he feels he is responsible for in his past and cannot forgive himself. Mary Lou is persistent with her belief that God is speaking to Jonah through her. Things begin to look up for both of them. Nice job! I love Amish stories.
Mary Lou has survived a terrible illness and at 18 is going on her rumspringa. She meets Jonah who is quite gruff but he notices that she is dressed Amish. He helps her to find peaceful places in the noisy city. She invites him back to her community to meet her family. She learns more about his family and realizes she is falling in love with him. When tragedy strikes, he runs! A heart wrenching short story that makes you want more! I received a free copy of this book and I voluntarily wrote an honest review.
This is the first book in the story of Jonah and Mary Lou. I enjoy reading the Amish stories like this book that tell of the farming, home, children, church, clothes, work ethic, tragedy, and young love. Carrying the burden of guilt becomes heavy over time and transforms us. God offers forgiveness as we should for others and ourselves. I recommendations book of you enjoy good, clean and wholesome stories. I received this book free and have chosen on my own to write an honest review..
On Mary Lou’s first day of rumspringa in the city, she meets Jonah, a former Amish who has shunned himself from his community after a tragic accident. Mary Lou is sure that Jonah is the reason God wanted her to go on rumspringa. As she gets to know this lost soul, she falls in love. But if he does not turn to God, she cannot be with him… There is a single point of view I don’t share at all. Mary Lou’s mother convinces her daughter that it is her godly assignment to convert Jonah back to “the faith”. No wonder Mary Lou felt burdened. Nevertheless, I enjoyed this story a lot.
This was a sweet and easy read. I liked Mary Lou a lot. She loved the Lord and stood strong in the face of being in the world during her Rumspringa. She wasn't trying to be worldly, she just felt the Lord was calling her to take one and that somehow He would use her when she went into the world. Jonah needed her. He came to where she was working and was very abrupt and not very kind. She was told by her co-workers that he had once been Amish and she knew that he was the one she was to help even though she understood that he was being shunned. I liked that too because she was willing to obey the Lord despite what the Ordnung said.
Jonah carries a load of guilt and it's made him turn away from other people, especially the Amish. When a very pretty Amish girl comes to work for one of the places that he makes deliveries, something in him calls out to her and he is willing to meet with her to hear what she has to say.
You'll have to read the book to see what happens after that.
Mary Lou has had a difficult year, with medical challenges that have changed her perspective. She's decided to take the year break, and live in the city, away from her Amish community, working as a seamstress. On her first day, she meets an unhappy young man about her age. Though dressed in Englisher clothes, she senses his Amish upbringing. His hardness is so unlike an Amish man, that she questions her first impression. Suddenly she wonders if he is the reason she's in the city!
Jonah's Redemption by Sylvia Price is a beautiful short story about two unlikely Amish young people. One on rumspringa and one who has shunned himself from his family and community becaus of an accident.
Jonah is looking for understanding and acceptance while Mary Lou is determined to share her faith wherever it takes her.
What is God’s will for these two people?
This is book 1 of a 5 part series that was offered as a free download from the author. I was not ask for required to give a positive feedback. All options are my own.
Jonah is hurt and left his community after the death of his little sister. While he is living in another city he meets Mary Lou, she was working away for awhile before deciding if she would join the Amish faith. There is a cliffhanger at the end so be prepared for the next in the series. I wanted to like this little story more than I felt I did, it just seems a little too pat for my liking. But I will read the next one because I want to know what happens next.
This is the 1st book I've read written by Sylvia Price; she has done a great job at writing a good short story; I can’t wait to read more of her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a free copy to review: I am a fan of Amish-themed stories and love Christian fiction, too, so this book was chocolate cake to me!! Sylvia clearly has a personal knowledge of Amish ways and she threads this into her story of loss and love in this first book in the collection of short stories series. A clean, sweet, inspirational love story.
Jonah's Redemption is a marvelous book. Author Sylvia Price wrote a storyline that enthralled me. The characters are unique in their own way, which made it more interesting. I highly recommend reading this book. I'll be reading more of Author Sylvia Price's books.
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book. This review is one hundred percent my opinion.
An intense story right from the beginning, you could just feel the explosions that were to happen. The grief and shame Jonah was experiencing could rock you to your very core. Mary Lou was given a mission, one that she might not complete. This ends in a cliff hanger, it might inspire or leave you downtrodden.
The book is a good sweet romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry. The story is an enjoyable short and sweet romance read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mary Lou is 18 yo and decides to have 1 year rouspringa in the big, noisy city and live as English people. Here she meets Jonah, a grumpy boy. Very nice and hunting story, easy and fast to read, twisted, wonderful characters. I recommend it, enjoy!
The first part in a five part series called Jonah's Redemption, a well written short story . I want to read the next book. Jonah and Mary Lou's story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love this book as I do love Amish books. When you first meet Jonah, you want to know more about him. Waiting to find out more about him in book 2. Sylvia Price keeps you into the book right to the end.
I received this book as an arc. Two young people meet in a time of there lives. God brought them two together and falling in love...I won't say no more you will have to read this awesome read it is worth it. I warn you its a cliff hanger. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
I am not normally a fan of novellas, short stories that continue on in the next book,, but I enjoyed Jonahs Redemption books 1 and 2 , now the cliffhanger and wait begins for book 3 and I will be looking for it, it was a good read
This is a fantastic Amish read. It really grabs the heart strings. The Author keeps you on the edge of your seat with all the twists and turns. A fantastic read that I definitely recommend. Shauna Joesten
I enjoyed reading this book about Mary Lou and Jonah. Mary Lou had talked him into going to her community because of things he had went through where he was from. So they went everything was going find until something happen. I recommend this book
I really dislike these authors that decide to Breck up a story and spread it across several books so each book ends in cliffhanger asking the reader to purchase additional books to finish the one story!
