It built up suspense so much that I couldn't and didn't want to put it down until I hit the last page. I didn't expect to read this in one night! Every time I thought the characters couldn't be that crazy, they were. Every time something insane happened, I didn't think it could be topped, then it was! This book was brilliantly thought out, all the way up to the very end. ...This author is definitely one to watch to see what he writes next. The writing style was excellent. This might be a good book for you to pick up if any of these quotes from the main character’s internal dialogue are appealing to you:

“As abrupt as a fart, she got up and left the room.”

“Not sex, of course, but I definitely flogged the dolphin at some point recently.”

“If Kraya ever found out, it’d go over like a box of chili-flavored tampons.”

“I...got my heart rate up to one-seventy, and called it good after my shirt looked like Chris Farley’d walked a few feet.”

They did not appeal to me. Neither did the disgusting characters or their outrageously OTT behavior.

4.5 What a thrilling ride on the crazy train stars!

I had no idea going into this book that it would be such a wild ride! Vince Taplin takes crazy to a whole new level with Alex and I was here for every obsessive, stalkerish, sexually deviant, psychopathic second. ⁣

Alex has fallen hard for Vick and she is willing to do anything to make him hers. She is wealthy, powerful, attractive and unwilling to let anyone or anything stand in her way. ⁣

Alex is one scary woman which means I absolutely loved her! To call this book a wild ride would be an understatement. I was hooked from the start and enjoyed every “oh no she didn’t” crazy moment. I highly recommend this book, especially if you enjoy a thriller that will leave you speechless and never quite looking at a bottle of vanilla extract the same ever again. 😉

In the immortal words of Keanu Reeves, “Whoa.” What a crazy ride Alex Six took me on!

Vick Miller is a former college professor. He now owns a number of properties that he rents, and he and his wife are raising their infant son. Life isn't perfect, but it's good.

Alexa Livingston is the wealthy daughter of a real estate magnate. She and her husband Francis were in love, but he died tragically before they could start a family. When she sees Vick at a grocery store one day, she nearly falls apart emotionally, practically brought to her knees by his resemblance to her late husband.

Desperate to have a child that reminds her of Francis, she offers to pay Vick handsomely if he’ll give her a specimen. But he can’t tell anyone, including his wife. The price is too good to pass up, so what's the downside?

As Alexa’s requests continue and her offers increase, Vick feels trapped. Does he have a price? Can he say no? Will Alexa allow it?

I'm going to stop here with the plot summary, but let's just say that Alex Six is a crazy book I couldn’t stop reading. The characters aren’t likable in the slightest but that doesn’t matter one iota—I needed to know what would happen next, even as I was a little creeped out by the possibilities. And I’ll never look at vanilla extract the same way again!!

The author, Vince Taplin, sent me a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an unbiased review. Thanks for making it available!

This audio/book deserves all the WTF did I just read comments it gets!!

What a wild ride indie author, Vince Taplin takes us on in his gripping debut novel!! I’ve seen all the vanilla bottles displayed all over Instagram surrounding this book and wondered what all the hype was about, so I jumped at the chance to listen to Alex Six when Vince Taplin offered a gifted audio! I am so glad I did and it lives up to all the hype! If you are a fan of twisty, psychological thrillers (think Gone Girl or Verity) then run and buy this book/audio!! You won’t be disappointed.

The two twisted MC aren’t very likeable, but that is what gives this read/listen its uniqueness. I wasn’t rooting for either one and I can’t say that I’ve listen/read any other book where that has been the case. There always seems to be a good guy/bad guy in most books, so I liked this twist. The two MC provided me enough shock value to last the rest of the year!! I kept reminding myself that it is just a book and these things don’t really happen......or do they? I’m still in the dating scene and after this listen, let's just say I have a lot more questions for my possible future dates!!!

Alex Livingston, a wealthy widow stalks down Vick Miller to proposition him to be the sperm donor for the child she has always wanted. Alex’s husband tragically died and Vick just happens to look exactly like him, so she will go to any lengths to convince Vick to go along with her plan. Vick is a happily married man with a lovely wife and son and is not interested in Alex’s proposition, at first, until she continues to offer him an obscene amount of money. Vick doesn’t do this kind of thing and can’t believe he is even thinking about it, but he has never seen that kind of money! He can’t help think that if he just provides the sample and that’s it, he can provide all the security his family will ever need. Unfortunately, psycho Alex has other things in store for Vick. And.....that is where the wild ride begins!!!

I was engrossed in Alex Six from the first chapter. I didn’t want the craziness to end. Every time I thought I had it figured out, something even crazier happened! The end was great with an unexpected turn. I love an audio/book that leaves you satisfied like this one did!

I thought the narrator did a good job at narrating both POVs, however, it would have been over-the-top amazing to have Alex played by a female narrator! I think her psycho-bitch personality would have shined even more!!

I don’t think I’ve read a book as shockingly disturbing as ALEX SIX since I read Verity last year. It was a wild ride that had me questioning everything. When combining the short chapters, the unreliable characters, and the creep factor - I couldn’t put this book down. There were times that I had to go back and reread sections because I wasn’t sure as to what was happening, and I wanted to make sure I had a firm grasp on the storyline. There is a lot that happens in 329 pages.

I did not care for any of the characters. Vick was essentially everything that I do not like in a man and Alex, well she was flipping crazy. I did feel sorry for Vick’s wife as she became the “middleman” and had some heinous events happen to her.

ALEX SIX is out now and can be purchased on Amazon! Oh, and if you do decide to add this one to your reading list, be prepared to never look at vanilla extract the same way again.

3.5 this book is umm... nuts!! Alex, an extremely wealthy woman, has lost her husband. She meets Vick, whom is almost an identical clone to her husband. She wants a child that would look similar to her husband. She offers him a huge sum of money to become a sperm donor so she can have a child. She literally becomes OBSESSED with him. Can you say crazy stalker?! Vick and Alex are both very unlikable characters so just a heads up! This is a very quick and crazy psychological thriller. The ending was not what I was expecting and was also Insane! Lol! If you want to read something nuts, check this out.

First off, let's talk about how this is compared to Verity by Colleen Hoover. Wow oh wow that is wrong and a disgrace to say. Verity is a masterpiece and this was... just not good.

Some of the language the author uses is quite frankly racist. So, not loving that at all. Also, the writing seemed very childlike at times and I totally would lose focus. I just didn't find this to be as thrilling or mind blowing as I thought it would be.

I honestly do not understand what the point of this book was. The ending happened, and it was very unbelievable. My question is why though? Why did this plot happen? I didn't like Vick, he was a horrible character. He made some really bad choices and just never got better. Alex was strange, and I honestly still don't understand her motive.

I guessed what the twist was and it really wasn't a twist, I'm pretty sure you could guess what was going to happen. It just was a very strange book, I did buddy read this so it made it a little better.

I'm sorry I can't give any positives about this book, but it just wasn't good. This is 100% my opinion, so if you loved it I'm super glad. If you still want to read it, I think that's awesome! I personally just did not like it.

Y’all. Y’ALL! I have read my share of psychopaths during my years...Alex Six by @vincetaplin takes the damn wedding cake here. All fifteen tiers of it.

I can’t tell you the last time I was this shocked by events that took place. And horrified. And a little impressed if I’m being honest. Are there really people out there like this?! Just walking around being top of the line whackadoodles?? Brilliantly scheming the demise of those around them? I mean, shit. Makes me want to move away from people. I hear Antarctica is nice this time of year.

I couldn’t stand the two main characters in this novel, but I still loved the book! I was hooked from the preface and didn’t want to stop.

If you are someone who doesn’t mind unlikeable characters, some unfathomable actions, and a friggen fast paced novel...this is your jam. Highly recommend!

A fine example of Black humour with an absurd, sometimes pitiable, situational comic-tragedy that just captured my mind from the first page.
Lemme start by saying, it's a Dudes-Dude book. Every term, anecdote, dialogue is atypical of slapstick locker-room humour. Life's predicaments and pleasures all described in a way that highlights two of men's brains, with Only one working at a time. Men like to keep life uncluttered and simple and so does Professor Victor Miller.

description

"I enjoyed the simple life. Married. Kid. Bills. A few cocktails at the end of the day. Sex twice a month. This is what people dream about, right?
The dream was shattered though. The day I met Alex…"

Danger walks right in front of simple Vick, in a tight red dress with a perfect swaying Ass.
Carrying a cup and a wallet, it's a perfect Give & Take business transaction, that is deliberately set to go awry.

description

"United States Dollars. Dineros. Smackeroos. Greenbacks. Stacks. Cheddar. Bags. Three hundred thousand new friends that live in my bank account. Morals leaving your body feels a bit like making deals with the devil. Well, more so deals with the devil’s daughter."
Told in dual POV, the writer focuses on two main characters the most. Most of narration is done with Victor's perspective, which makes sense since it's a dudes-dude book, but I would've loved to know more about Whys and Hows and wherefores of Alex's background, more of Kraya's mind and definitely a mention or two of Daddy Livingston and the therapist too

description

Crazy brilliant, written with sharp cutting edge wit, I'm guessing Vince is pretty brazenly funny in person as well. I should've been aghast or felt dread but it was offset so eloquently by whimsical facetiousness, that I found myself laughing more than I needed to.
I'll definitely won't look at vanilla extract the same again, that's for sure😁
I must recommend this book and will force my friends to read it🙂

1.5? I wanted to like this more because the author seems like such a nice guy on IG. But I should’ve DNFd it. Also, the description is barely what the story is about.

I also see that he sometimes comments on the reviews on here. Just yuck.

Listen up, peasants (you’ll have to read this to get the joke 😉)!

This is the kind of book that I NEED an actual physical copy of. Why? Because I LOVED it. I read it on my kindle. My boyfriend, Ryan, liked it too - I read it aloud in the car while we’ve been on a road trip. He liked it so much that we finished it awhile ago and he STILL keeps bringing it up, but maybe he liked how I played Alex. 🤣😈

Alex Six is a thriller, but a sexy, psychological thriller? I was hooked just from the preface alone. It was everything I needed, so shockingly disturbing, so twisted, and I loved every moment of it.

I hated the characters, but loved them at the same time, if that’s possible? The lead female, Alex, was so confident and psychotic. The lead male, Victor, is everything I hate in a guy. I couldn’t get enough of either of them!

This is a book about obsession, wealth, immorality, and devious behaviors from the first page to the very end.

Taplin is SO talented and witty! I felt myself gasping out loud because of all of the outrageous scenes. I want to say more, but I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. Just go read this book... like yesterday!

3.5 This book was WILD, it kept me really engaged and entertained. I don't want to ruin the twists but it left me mouth gaping a few times. To me it is written a little like a "dark comedy" with one of the main characters Vick being a bit of a smarmy narcissist. I recommend it, just because it was so WILD.

The narrator took a little bit of it away for me, some of the dialogue is intentionally snarky and the narrator in my opinion went overboard making the "snark" a little more annoying than I think it would have been in print. Unfortunately with eye damage I am relegated to audiobooks but I think having Kindle/Alexa read this it might have been better.

Upping the rating to 4.0 - Re-read before an author chat… I decided to pick it up in print and re-read it. Definitely a better print book then audio. I enjoyed the chapter numbers in the print version...each chapter is written from different point of view it’s a nuance that I missed on the audio. Loved it.

Alex Six by Vince Taplin can be described as a thriller but if you go into this thinking it's a typical read you will be shocked.

Victor Miller is just a regular guy with a good job, lovely wife, and young son but like many people he could use some extra money. Rich and powerful Alexa Livingston wants a baby but her husband is dead. It so happens that Victor looks just like him so an offer is made that he eventually can't refuse.

If you love characters that are full of crazy this book delivers. It is told from Victor's and Alexa's point of view. You definitely feel as if you are in Vick's head in the stream of consciousness narration. This does have some limits on getting to know other characters like his wife and lawyers but it works. His wife is very much in the background although she has an important part in the story. I was worried about her the entire time and I liked her more than Victor.

I also did not like most of what Victor did but it was entertaining reading about it. It's a nice change from a typical thriller. There is some dark humor in there as well and the last line is on point.

Wow! Alex Six was definitely a shocking and intense roller-coaster ride! The story reads super fast paced, my eyes were glued to the pages! It flows with a very catchy narrative which is focused mainly on the plot and not on descriptive settings, the author writes straight to the point!

The story is told in two different point of views, from Alex, a rich psychopath stalker that will do everything and anything to get what she wants, and Victor Miller, a married ordinary guy that is very unfortunate to look identical to Alexia's late husband, who she must have by all means..

My sweet, sweet sleepyhead. I sing to him and pet his forehead. "Twinkle twinkle little star, how I wonder what you are." Don't worry, honey. I'll be here when you wake up.

Alex power-handles everything and everyone to control the situation around her and obtain her ultimate goal: Victor Miller. The novel is very intense, filled with murder, stalking, obsession, persuasion, all put together in a expertly elaborated master-plan. The author certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and keep us intrigued! I will never look the same at vanilla bottles again! The ending is shocking and unexpected!

"Do you know how hard I've worked for this? Do you? Do you, Vick?"

I recommend this novel for those looking for a suspense read filled with plot twists and secrets!

So there is a lot to say about this one. I finished it in one night once I got passed chapter 2. It is disturbing. It is unpredictable. It is not for everyone. I like psychological thrillers because they tend to be page turners for me, and this kept my curiosity engaged. This story switches back and forth between two characters. I had a bit of a hard time with the fact that it doesn't specify who is talking. You have to read a paragraph before you get a good idea of who you are listening to think. I have seen this book all over bookstagram. Many people have enjoyed it. I will say in all honesty there were parts that bothered me. Cover to cover there are trigger warnings for just about every topic possible. Some may say that I'm being overly sensitive or easily offended, but I have boundaries and some things just don't sit well with me, especially being a disabled BIPOC female. I think a lot of people will like this one, and some won't. Not all books are for all people, and that is okay. It is not for children. Absolutely adult only.

I can see where this author was going with this novel. But in my opinion there were underdeveloped areas that for me were important to make Alex’s behavior clearer. For example why introduce the therapist, just to kill her off without the payoff of a diagnosis to something alluded to?

I don’t mind some dispelling my beliefs, but what Alex got up to was way too much for me to dispel.

I think maybe another round of edits would have benefited this novel.

In the end this was not for me.

Married with a kid, Vick Miller had been a professor at the University of Minnesota until he was fired. Now in the rental property business, Vick is just a normal guy. Well, not to her...

Vick goes out to do some grocery shopping when he sees her. A gorgeous woman standing in the aisle staring at him. Standing in Vick’s way, and all she says is, “You look just like him.” Returning home, Vick is a little shaken, and he notices his bottle of vanilla is missing from his groceries.

Soon, Vick is contacted by Alexa Livingstone and her legal team. This is the cold, stone beautiful woman from the grocery store. She is incredibly wealthy and is prepared to make Vick a sizeable offer for his DNA. Alexa lost her first husband, and she wanted children. Vick, in her mind, would make the perfect donor.

Vick has his doubts, but his wife has been acting so strange lately, and the money would really help his business. Vick has no idea the lengths Alexa has gone to to make sure Vick will be all hers.

This is a tense and terse story of obsession and fixation. I liked that we hear from the viewpoints of both Alexa and Vick. Although Alexa’s character is clearly messed up, I would like to have known more about her backstory. And I don’t know if it was the intention of Taplin, but at first, I felt for Vick, and then I grew to be disgusted with the both of them.

Wow. I feel like you never really have time to process a book like this because I know this one is going to be stuck in my head for a while. I'm going to be turning this one over in my noggin for quite some time.

I like to read thrillers every once in a while. It's funny, but thrillers seem to ask the reader to suspend disbelief even more than horror stories. I don't believe in ghosts and the supernatural or most supernatural subgenres, however those types of stories often seem more plausible than the plots of most thrillers. ALEX SIX is no exception. This story is bonkers crazy.

This is an obsession thriller that's cranked all the way up to eleven. I sincerely think this story makes Fatal Attraction look like Sesame Street. And yes, I remember the rabbit. Perhaps it feels that way because the reader spends time inside the mind of the obsessed? Her internal dialogue is so cringey and wrong. And that room. And everything inside it.

There is some very odd dialogue in this one though, and that threw me off in places. A weird phrase or two always seem to knock me out of the story. But that certainly didn't stop me from turning pages. I had to know if you could go this far beyond GONE GIRL and get the guy. Could this even possibly work?

Regardless of some clunky language this book is a wild ride and a lot of fun. It's exactly what I have come to expect from thrillers. You know that things are going to get absolutely bananas, so just sit back, sip some coffee, and enjoy the ride. This one was fun all the way to the end. Ew. That ending.

Fast paced to keep you flipping!

(4/5⭐️) Say hello to a wild ride! There’s nothing special about Vick Miller, except that he looks a lot like millionaire Alex Livingston’s diseased husband. When Alex approaches Vick with a proposal he can’t resist, Vick finds himself in a dangerous game. Alex is determined to get pregnant. It’s Vick’s sperm she wants—a baby in the image of her deceased husband. Sounds easy right? Donate some swimmers in exchange for a wad of cash? No strings. No obligations. But Alex isn’t the woman she appears to be, and soon Vick finds himself in over his head.

Alex Six is a psychological thriller told from two POVs. The chapters are short and keep you turning pages as you plunge through the plot. Vick’s story evolves, and you find yourself putting the pieces together as you make the shocking realization that Alex isn’t the woman you thought she was. It’s a surprising plot twist, to say the least.

Vince Taplin crafts two characters with unique voices. Both characters are morally gray, multifaceted, and lugging around their fair share of personal flaws. Alex’s flaws are the most extreme. She’s obsessive, and quite obviously suffering from mental instability. Her obsessive tendencies are so insane that she becomes the perfect story villain. Vick’s character was fantastic. His voice was so unique, I was immediately hooked. He’s written in a way that you witness his casual mental processes firsthand. This technique allows the reader to get a deep look into his mind and thinking processes. I loved his mental asides. He felt real and relatable.

Vick’s POV voice was my favorite aspect of this novel. IMO, it made the writing.

The story itself was engaging. I really liked the way the storyline from Vick’s POV didn’t quite match up to his stalker’s (at the beginning). But as the story progressed, the parallel plot began to align, and the pieces started to fit together. This, to me, was another unique aspect of the story I appreciated.

The ending was satisfying. I liked that Vick got his revenge. After what he went through, and everything Alex did to him, it was nice to see some closure. And I finally understood all the hype about the bottle of vanilla! Phew! I thought I was missing something when I saw everyone referencing this.

Okay, now on to the flaws. There weren’t many. As Vince Taplin’s FIRST book, this was a great debut. I have a great admiration for Indy authors, being one myself. But, no first book is perfect. The flaws I saw with this book were as follows:

Some of the past/present tense felt mixed up in places that slowed my reading. Vick appeared to be told in a past tense while Alex appeared to be in a present tense. However, sometimes Vick would have both past and present tense in his thoughts (in a single sentence) and that kind of tripped me up. No biggie.

No to Krayh’s character. I felt that Kray’s story didn’t get much attention. While I understand that the story was about Vick and Alex, it would have been nice to see her character have some development. She wasn’t ignored, per say, but I felt that she was somewhat overlooked. For example, I felt there was some disconnect to their relationship. Vick seemed to come and go without much discussion between them. Didn’t Kray wonder how he’d gotten a membership to a prestigious golf corse? Or did he lie to her every time he went out? Or was she so drugged up that she didn’t even notice or ask? A quick mention might have easily filled this hole.

Maybe this is just how some marriages are? But I didn’t see enough communication between the two of them to make them feel super realistic as a married couple. But again, since this wasn’t 100% necessary to the main plot, it’s okay. It just would have added a layer of realism in the overall plot.

Aside from that, I enjoyed this book! I’m glad I gave it a shot. I don’t generally read within this genre. I pretty much ONLY read fantasy, YA, and Sci-fi. So it was refreshing to branch out and do something different. Bravo to Vince Taplin on his debut novel. I think we can expect many more great reads from this author!

Thank you Vince, for the copy in exchange for my honest review!

Holy crap sticks this book was freaking good!!! The first twist came early and I gasped loudly during my daughter’s golf lesson and I scared the crap out of her and her coach. (Sorry!) Then the twists just kept coming and I swear my face was twisted in a WTF expression for pretty much the rest of the book. It was one of those books that makes me want to devour it in one sitting but also want to hold back to savor it. I loved the first person perspective from two characters and I totally loved the nonlinear timeline. I honestly think this Vince Taplin guy just might be as f*cked up in the head as I am. Maybe more so.

This was a great fun read, a true palate cleanser of sorts that was unexpectedly twisty and truly a wild ride. I enjoyed the unusual writing of really getting into someone’s head and most intimate thoughts between the gorgeous Alexa Livingston and Victor “Vick” Miller aka Professor.

This truly was a story about obsessions that is told in short alternating chapters and point of views that were fast paced, compulsively readable, and unputdownable. It was very easy to spot whose perspective you are reading about from the chapter headings which I figured out quickly.

Every time I thought it was getting a bit too much for me, I just can’t stop picking it back up to know what just might happen next. For a unique quick read and a great palate cleanser from heavy reads, pick this uber fun thriller from Vince Taplin.

OMFG. This book! I don't even know where to begin. It's an obsession story on crack! Or should I say heroin?! 😉 Full disclosure: I almost DNF'd this a couple of times. It has some cringe worthy lines: "As abrupt as a fart, she got up and left the room" and "it'd go over like a box of chili-flavored tampons." WHAT?! 🤣 (I can only imagine what Vick would think about these eggs.) I mostly had a WTF look on my face for about 80% of this read.. so why didn't I DNF - well, it's JUST insane enough that I just needed to freaking know.

It took me a minute to figure out how to differentiate the POVs of each chapter and finally got clued in with how the chapter heading would incorporate the number or not. Clever! Because we do get dual POVs, things seem to be a bit repetitive but as you continue the read, you kinda start to appreciate the vast insanity of it all. The dialogue is cheesy, it's competely unrealistic and you want to throttle the two main characters.... but fuck me if the ending didn't redeem it a bit and I literally laughed out loud at that last line. 😆

Prepare to suspend a LOT of belief for this one. I'm giving this one a generous 3 stars because that ending got me. And I sure as hell ain't baking anything with vanilla extract - no Saturday cookie making for me! #ifyouknowyouknow

And...OMG Vick - YES IT'S FUCKING CHEATING. Ok, I just had to get that out there because woah

This book made me angry.
This book made me sick.
This book had me absolutely disgusted.
This book had no likable characters and no one to root for. Every other character besides the main two felt like a shell of a human being, as if they had no life of their own. You never find out what the wife does, the couple doesn't seem to have any friends that would notice things were strange, heck - this book didn't even bother to give the main character's son a name even though he was mentioned multiple times throughout the book (I think it was Junior but it wasn't very clear).
At some points, this book was even racist. Making mention to the character's Asian dry cleaner charging him "trenty a-darrars" even though it had no relation to the story whatsoever. He also had an Asian air hostess at one point who he literally just refers to as 'Asian' whenever that character speaks. I don't know if this is done to make the character DEEPLY unlikable but I didn't enjoy it.
I don't understand how we're supposed to be left happy or satisfied at the end of the book when the main character wins and gets a boatload of money, if we don't even like him. And, dear God, the things that man would do for money. He might as well have just gone into prostitution.
I was just happy and satisfied that the nightmare eventually ended. Frankly, I would've been happy if both characters had just gotten hit by a bus and that be the end of it. That would have been a 5 star book. This book, however, is not.
The events in this book happened more for the shock factor rather than with the intention of actually telling a good story, and the writing was awful at the best of times.
I don't often read crime or thriller or whatever the hell this was - but I have read them and have found ones that I enjoy (I thoroughly enjoyed Verity, for example).
I did not enjoy this book. Plain and simple.

Y'all.
.

I am, dare I say, shooketh.

We all know one of the major perks of being a bookstagrammer is when an author reaches out to offer you a copy of their book to review, so when Vince Taplin offered to send me a copy of his psychological thriller 'Alex Six' I happily accepted. Free is my favorite number after all. 😂. Then it arrived and I was in absolutely the wrong headspace to approach it and so it has been sitting on my shelf for weeks until about three hours ago when I picked it up and completely DEVOURED IT.
.
.
I expected to like it but I did not anticipate going on a 'holy crow, wtheck did I just read,' absolute mind frick of a journey from page one. (In case y'all can't tell I don't like traditional expletives, I much prefer to get creative with my own).

This book is a WILD ride of obsession, immorality, excessive wealth and devious behavior that twists and turns from the very beginning to the last very last line of the book. It is literally now one of my top three favorite psychological thrillers, not just from this year, but ever.

But I will NEVER look at a bottle of vanilla extract the same way again.

The booksta hype of “wtf did I just read” was accurate, just not in a positive light 😕 this book did flow really well and it held my attention. There were times I wanted to stop reading but kept going in hopes it would get better and redeem itself. It didn’t.
