The most beautiful gorgon in legend. A blind thief with everything to lose...It's going to be a heist to remember.

MEDUSA is book 2 of The Court of the Underworld, a new paranormal romance series, based in a dark dystopian future where Hades rules a court of gods and monsters in modern day Greece.

In the city of Styx, Medusa rules her media empire from behind the safety of a thousand screens. Her kind of success is bound to attract enemies, and Medusa has her own private sculpture garden of people that have tried to cross her.

Blinded and orphaned as a kid in Styx, Perseus has trained his other senses to become the greatest thief in New-Greece. He cares only about two things; the art gallery that's going to make him legit, and his baby sister Dany.

When Dany is kidnapped by a new gang calling themselves Pithos, Perseus has no choice but to take on one impossible job...break into Serpentine Tower and steal a necklace from Medusa, the only token in the world that protects its wearer against her deadly gaze.

When Medusa catches Perseus in the act, and the sly, sexy thief manages to escape her coils, she's going to stop at nothing to get her property back.

With Dany's life hanging in the balance, Perseus is going to have to convince Medusa to become his partner in crime, but keeping it strictly business with the demigoddess may be his toughest job yet.

Please note this series contains adult content, including violence, swearing, and steamy sex scenes.

3 Stars!

Maybe a tiny bit better than the first book, but still missing a lot, especially details. Everything in this series so far is very vague and I feel like I still hardly know the characters and their pasts. I don't even know their ages, or how they age, which would really be good to know seeing as a couple of the heroines are humans. I also would have liked to have Medusa more bada** and experienced. I can't say I'm really a fan of this nerdy version of Medusa. She was just a bit uninteresting. Also, the ending was pointless and just plain stupid btw.

So overall, this is just okay. Entertaining enough, but I have a feeling book 3 is going to be the last one I read in this series, and the only reason I'm bothering reading this far in the series is because the books are so short and Hades is the most interesting character so far. So unless book 3 pulls a miracle, I just don't think this series is really worth it to continue on.

Now when it comes to Medusa, the little gem up above is what I automatically think of. So I was pretty intrigued to meet this different version of her. She was a bad ass boss bitch and she could take care of herself. So when she bet a semi blind guy that shook her world off it's axis, well, I was down to see how everything was going to play out.

I'm not going to lie. Her and Perseus had some great chemistry with one another. Especially when it came to all things that require team work. Whether it's saving his little sister or trying to destroy the people trying to steal from her. I was here for it all and enjoyed every second of it.

The only thing I wanted more of was the juicy romance. That's it. The crime and everything else was good but the romance was a bit better. Loved these two together and I'm excited to dive into Hades book!

Wish These Were Edited Better

Prch Amz July 18, 2023

3.25 Stars

These are cute little stories but they are in serious need of better editing.
There are some serious jumps in scenes. Characters will be one place, like getting in a car then suddenly they aren't in the car then they are back in the car. It's confusing.
The editing in this one was horrible.
The dialogue is often juvenile and the story gets bogged down with mundane info.
They do have a knack to catch your attention and parts are interesting but they also lose your attention with all the problems in the writing.
I have all of this series but I'm giving them a break until next year.
This one just disappointed me to much to continue with them for now.

I am absolutely consuming this series.

I had so much fun with Asterion and the fun continues with Medusa.

I’ve never read a depiction of Medusa so wasn’t sure what to expect but, as always, Alessa delivered us a fierce get vulnerable FMC. I fell in love with Perseus immediately as well as Dany and I am loving how this find family continues to grow as the series moves on.

I am so excited to move forward with Hades!!

I really like the continuing story in this series! I loooooved Perseus, homie could get it. I liked the romance in book 1 better but it was still good! I can’t wait to get to book 3, Hades.

These books are quick and I’m enjoying the audiobook versions! Highly recommend for in between heavier books!

I enjoyed Medusa and Perseus's story, though the conflict felt a bit rushed - these books are short, and I always want more from Alessa. It's a fun series so far, and I can't wait to get more info on the court in their books.

This one was so fun!
42! HP! Dr.Who!
Dialogues between two of them and the whole Court was such an enjoyment.
No miscommunication. Real and open talk. Es!
Only thing that I resent is not writting about head jobs that were mentioned! Twice! You failed us twice, Alessa!

Oh, dear...
So, this is the worst book so far I've read in this series, and there are a few reasons for this. I'm not sure if the Author just isn't comfortable writing the FMC as the main lead or what happened, but this book was a large step down from the first one in terms of writing itself and character development.

One of my pet peeves in the book was sadly Medusa's nickname among her friends, which was 'Susa'. I just can't stand it. That's not the author's fault, that's a personal opinion haha, but it was constantly dragging me from the story every time I read it which then became a problem.

But apart from that in terms of writing, this book was....not very interesting. Medusa has some issues with men and mortal men at that - which makes sense because the author kept to the myth of her having sisters that were killed by a hero, so she has suffered a loss. She's an introvert, which makes sense and works well in the story as Hades found her secluded in some caves where she had given up on mankind and just wanted to be left alone really.

She's "geeky" and runs a tech company/gaming company/media company/media representative for Hades - I mean the woman does a lot of things, oh and she's also kinda like Q in James Bond I guess, because I kept picturing that when she was talking about her basement where they kept the supernatural weapons they were trying to learn from etc.

But as a character, there wasn't much there I really liked. I felt like she was 15 years old, a bit ditzy, and nerdy and there wasn't much of her being any type of "badass" and fighting, she didn't really get a lot of that.

There was also never any mention of HOW Medusa came to be Medusa you know? Her story is a sad tale that I felt should have been included. There is nothing about her background. Compared to the other books - she's the one with the least story I feel. It's like she just spurted out of a pumping patch one day. I understand that maybe the actual story wouldn't fit in, because the Author is already changing things to fit the setting, but I feel like Medusa deserved to have her story told, she deserved to share how she got her curse because that's what she has, she's cursed.
But Poseidon was never mentioned and neither was Athena, and that made me a little sad.
I would have loved to read something that brought that story into the book, even if it was changed slightly.

So even though I liked Perseus and his storyline which was great, again Perseus's sister also wasn't very well written, so these things really brought the book down.

On top of that, again was the editing, which needs lots of work. There are words missing, misspellings etc.
So sadly this book got two stars from me, but again - I have read 4 so far and it does get better. Hades saved the series after these two books.

Perseus is a dreamboat. He is sarcastic, witty, and sexy. He flirts like a professional and his confidence is well balanced. I also can’t help but find it super attractive that he is an artist even though he is blind. It just enhances his talents and shows his passion for the craft.

The author’s take on Medusa was so different and yet similar. She is strong and intimidating. She is a boss like figure. She has the personality I’d expect from the goddess: distant with men, snarky, feminist, and serious. But then the author makes her a technology wizard and a gamer. I’m sorry, what?

But their whole story feels like a game of cat and mouse. One chasing the other. And you are just waiting for them to give in.

I do like that Perseus has a sister but she isn’t super young but they treat her like she is. Which is kind of weird to me. I also think sometimes Medusa and Perseus act more like parents to her which is probably what the author was going for but I think she is little too old for that.

I still go back to this to read my favorite spicy scenes. Ugh. 🔥🤍

Spice🌶️🌶️
Action ⚔️⚔️🗡️

Medusa and Perseus make such a fun couple! Banter is on point (as you can expect from any couple from any book by Alessa) and I really love that the stories are interconnected. Also m, I love that the women in Alessa’s books are strong and don’t need saving every single time. Medusa is one bad ass woman and I loved it!

Special stars to Dany and Asterion! Who would’ve thought the big Minautor could be such a sweetie 😍

3.5/5 ★ A good time! Short, sweet (with some spice) and packs a fun punch. These are on the shorter side and I love that about them.

THOUGHTS
Medusa & Perseus. She's, well, Medusa, gorgon, monster... who is also a bad-ass business woman, and Perseus is a super-hot tatted artist, who used to be thief. The overarching bad-guys blackmail Perseus to get back to thieving, and he has to steal something from Medusa. *Meet cute!*

Shenanigans/the plot thickens, related to the overarching plot of the series — The Pithos gang (bad-guys) that want to destroy the group Medusa is a part of (the Hades led, Styx gang) continue.

Medusa and Perseus want each other from that meet cute... and lucky for us, they succumb to that want... BUT they are from two different worlds... so it'll never work... or will it?

It's a fun romp.

Alessa Thorn books have become my go to palette cleansers. They are short, fun, fast paced and low angsty.

I really liked Perseus in this book. In the synopsis he was described as a blind artist/former thief and I expected him to be a bit introverted. Perseus had BDE and confidence in spades and I loved it.

I wish Perseus's character had been fleshed out more. Specifically his powers. Maybe we'll see more of them as the series continues.

This was another very fun book.

Like with Asterion, the thing that drew me to this book was that you don't see a lot of retellings about the myth of Medusa, and seeing how that fits into this pseudo-modern world is so much fun.

The moment I met Medusa in Asterion, I wanted so badly to get to her book. She is a super hot boss lady whose first scene in this book involves her reading a romance novel in her Slytherin pajamas. She's also wicked smart and super capable, and I love everything about her and her characterization. I love so much that, so far, this series has managed to give us nothing but hyper capable women. Even if they ended up spending time as "damsels", Ariadne and Danae are nothing if not fully in control of their situations.

I was also super intrigued by Perseus being a mostly blind thief that sees the people as a series of auras and flirts like his life depends on it, but is actually rather shy about whether Medusa actually likes him. I found the fact that he was a reformed crook turned struggling artist so much fun, and all the descriptions of the way he sees people was great. As was the reveal about his heritage.

Danae is a character I hope to see more of. Her devil may care attitude and whip smart come backs were great, and seeing her give Medusa the "don't break my brother's heart" speech was so adorable. I love her. I also love how considerate the siblings are to each other, with Perseus working so hard to make sure she wants for very little, and Danae suggesting infrared paint would help him feel more at home in his new studio space - it's all very gratifying.

I loved this book a lot. Like before there were moments where it got a bit info dumpy, but I didn't really care so much. The way the myth was spun was interesting and the characters so fleshed out that I was willing to look away. I'm nervous about moving on to book three "Hades" because there are so many Hades stories out there, and the last one I read was more of a "made for TV movie". The thing I've liked the most about this series so far is it's focus on more over looked myths, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I've always been on Team Medusa - I think she's the most misunderstood of the ancient greek myths, got a bad rep for something that's actually a REALLY messed up story - that's a topic for another time though.

Now, onto the book! Prior to starting the Court of Underworld series, I read Thorns newest title, Set, which mentions the Court in passing, including Medusa and her PR/Media Empire. I wanted to read her book from that second! But I was patient and made my way there :-)

LOVE this story of Modusa in modern day Greece. LOVELOVELOVE.

She's a smart hot AF lady, but has essentially sequestered herself to her penthouse in the sky scraper of her company, not wanting to harm anyone amongst other reasons. This book has her stepping out, gives some insight into her internal conflicts, family she's lost, etc. and of course has that splash of romance thrown in.

Perseus is sent to her to steal something... I'm not going to assume everything is familiar with the story of Perseus, so I won't say much more to avoid spoilers. His little sister Dany, who is only in the end portion, is an awesome character. I also love the courts dynamic, reading the dynamic Asterion and Ariadne have now that they're together and Ariadne's relationship with Medusa, and even Dimmi is tied in! Love the intertwining story lines.

Also - f**k pithos.

This is my second readthrough of the series. I am rereading because of the new books that are coming out. And I’m so glad I am because this series is so, so good. It has everything you want in a series and standalone books. It has found family, lots of spice, great storyline, great love story, Low angst, and a great ride from start to finish. This is a standalone but the story is continuous and you should read in order.

Greek gods and Medusa and particular have been written about many times. So it’s always so great to come across a book that feels so fresh and such a new story. I love about Medusa in this book is she’s Corporation owner and incredibly smart. She’s also beautiful, kind, and loyal. Because of her past, she is slow to trust and slow to fall in love.

Perseus It’s a great character. He has a rich and interesting backstory. And how he gets tied up with Medusa it’s a really fun story. I love how much he loves Medusa and how he knows what she needs and gives it to her emotionally.

Finally, one of my favorite things about these books is the found family. Love how they all rally around each other, help each other, protect each other, and love each other.

Loved this book! Can’t wait for next book!!!!

A romance between Medusa and the thief who stole more than just a necklace from her.

Medusa is a powerful, both in intelligence and in beauty, woman who starts to care about a man in a romantic way for the first time in her life... Someone's also trying to kill her so there's that to deal with as well. I like the way the author decided to write her character. Perseus is a very unlucky man but he's also kind of sweet and it's great to have a partially blind male character in a romance. I felt.... Lukewarm about their relationship, it was wholly forgettable and it didn't really stand out as something for me to love. I feel like the author still needs to develop that emotional connection aspect in the books. I know they're fast-paced but there's still opportunity to make a more believable romance.

I guess I'm getting acquainted with the author's writing style because it wasn't as off putting as in the first book. Still, far from a great read for me.

2nd book in the Court of the Underworld series picks up right where the first one stops but different main characters. This time we follow Perseus, an ex-thief who is trying to earn an honest living for himself and his sister, who gets blackmailed into stealing from Medusa, the head of the media in Styx and a member of the Court.
Things dont go according to plan and Perseus and Medusa are pushed into working together to achieve their separate goals.

‘Medusa’ has just as much action, fun and steamy romance as the first book in the series as the unlikely couple fight their way through threats from the organisation Pithos, who keep jacking stuff up for everyone on their mission to rid the world of monsters.
Fantastic quick read that leaves you wanting more! I love this word of dystopian Greece where the old gods and back and in control of things. It’s a bit dark and mysterious and the monsters are way overdue for a happy ending.

Can not wait for book 3- Bring on Hades!!!

Great followup novel

I have really been looking for more Greek mythology based romance books, so I decided to give this series a try. It did not disappoint!

Medusa is the second book of this series, and the only one with a female title character. Medusa is a strong willed, dominant female in charge. But, when her life is thrown off balance by thief turned artist Perseus will she be able to go back to normal?

Perseus and Medusa are a match made in the heavens. He knows just how to get under her skin (and all over it). I loved watching the pair fall in love and how Medusa went from lone wolf to worrying about her new family.

The main storyline of the series keeps getting deeper with PITHOS and its members coming further to the surface. But, what is their master plan? I’ll have to keep reading to find out!

I would recommend this to any paranormal/mythology romance fan. This series should be read in order to fully understand the storyline.

Loved this one too! Flawless execution and continuation of the last book. Definitely need to read this series in order. I adored Medusa in the first book and how she welcomed Ariadne into the fold so quickly. And having her own story told, it was about time. Really heartbreaking what happened with her sisters and I can definitely understand her reaction to Perseus. His story is also heartbreaking. I knew from the get go whose son he was, not just because of my knowledge of Greek mythology, but at his mother's reaction and craziness after he was born. In all the stories I've read, Zeus has made a lot of women go insane. Was so livid at what his grandfather, Acrisius, did to his sister and then his mother. So glad Perseus and the whole court got their revenge. Now Perseus and Dany have a family. Medusa has the love she always craved who isn't afraid of her ❤️ she's the perfect bad ass and nerd!

Alessa Thorn a new (to me) paranormal romance star

This is only book 2 of the series and I already love it . Make some room J. R. Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Christine Feehan And Shannon Butcher. Now where in the world am I going to keep even more keeper books? I've already got books in every room of my house except the bathrooms. Luckily these are digital and don't take up physical space. However, I'm always freaking out that I will lose them. I mean what if Amazon goes out of business, or shuts down its servers? Sony PlayStation was just going to do that with the PlayStation 3 store. They changed their minds, for now, but this Is why I like to have the actual physical book for my keepers as well. I also like to read at night and you're not supposed to use electronics at night so you need a physical book to ensure the blue light does not mess with your sleeping.

Okay, Book 2 and we have a female MC. 🙌🏼 This far I can say, that the books are underrated and need some appreciation on booktok and bookstagram.

This book, although focused around a different character, felt too similar to the first and Medusa being centuries old, came off a bit too YA. I do love it when the characters from previous books still make appearances, especially when they’ve grabbed a piece of your heart. I had high hopes for Medusa and I was not disappointed at all! I mean she's a kick ass heroine. Who is the biggest nerd out there. However plot, sass and cool characters are all on point. Continuation from previous book is good and I would probably suggest reading in order. But I have still 1000 question. As far I can see, this series has 7 or 8 books, so maybe they will be answered in the future.

Just as enjoyable as Asterion.
Fast paced book, it’s short but it packs a punch with storyline - both romance and action.
It is Insta love but in a way that isn’t cheesy. Dealing with shady characters, monsters and feeling like they’ll never find someone to accept them for who they are flaws and all. Took till 65% for the smut to kick in.

For the confident badass woman Medusa is she’s vulnerable when it comes to love and feeling like she isn’t attractive and worthy. I love her attitude with the court and the batter between them all.
Perseus sees the world in auras so sees the true Medusa and loves her for who she really is.

The drama of Pithos from book 1 carries into this book and I’m assuming through the whole series as the mystery is still unsolved by end of this book.
