Now re-edited with added content.

Andreas Mitchell is single, stupid and bored, and should honestly have a good long think about the number of bad life choices he has made lately. Instead, he heads straight for the one guy he knows will become his biggest mistake yet.

Luca Germano makes no choices at all. Instead, he lives quietly in the background and prefers the safety of his own hand to risking his heart. And someone as pretty and fearless as Andreas Mitchell is the last person on earth he should let into his life.

Especially at Christmas.

I promised myself I would finish this since I was already at 71%, but I just can't anymore.

I'm not feeling the writing, I'm not feeling the characters.

Life is too short to spend on books I don't like.

Praise to this amazing adorable story!

Andreas is a slut. You can find him every weekend at the bar, getting drunk and going home with a guy to be left bruised for a week.
Sitting at the bar drinking water Luca thinks Andreas is the most beautiful person at those nights, but hold him at distance. He doesn’t want to be one of those guys. He’ll never give his heart again.
Fate has other plans and they end up in Luca’s apartment. What follows will squeeze your heart, will make you laugh, and will make you cry with them. It’s the most endearing story ever!

They have laughs and tears together, and the most deliciously fun time in bed. They are amazing together. They fit like no other couple will, in and out of the bedroom.

Andreas is still a slut but he’s Luca’s slut. Embraced by Luca’s family Andreas finds exactly what he yearns for and even more.

Two adorable endearing guys. Made for love.
I fell in love with them and their journey it was everything!
A narrative with much joy and some hurt, with a plausible story to tell.
Written in a way that did all sorts of things with my heart.

Highly recommended!

Wasn't this just utterly dear?
At first I thought it was like Emma Alcott's During the Flight meets Muscling Through by J. L. Merrow but then it became Sophia Soames and her characters Luca and Andreas. I think this was my third book by this author and it won't be my last. The characters always have this very real, very raw not quite there tangibility.

This is an insta-obsession/love romance, set at Christmas time. Features one loving family and one horrible family. An MC who has never experienced real love or loving sex and latches on once he is offered a slice of love. And an MC who was immediately besotted with this man and wants to make all his dreams come true.

Interesting car stuff happening... Car engineer x cars salesman. Both drive tiny old cars (Fiat, Mini) and meet professionally due to a car that doesn't exist IRL :'D

Quotes

"...he wrapped his arms around me and folded me into the mother of all hugs, burying his chin in my shoulder and breathing heavily into my hair. He was taller than me, yet I seemed to fit into his frame like I was all those missing pieces and he was the puzzle." p.59

"Nice cup of tea." That was me being a genius at small talk with the most beautiful man I had ever laid eyes on. p.61

NSFW infos:
- 24 year old English-Italian MC; big, muscular, and hairy ('his shockingly hairy hole' p. 145); car engineer; had a bad breakup in the past and became alcoholic (is now sober); predominantly tops; likes roughening other MC up and is confused by it
- 26 year old English MC; smaller, slim, waxed; likes his fantasy him being roughed up and humiliated; book starts with him being in a dubious consent situation with someone other than the MC
- consensual non con
- slapping and spanking
- role play (snowed in together, breaking and entering, virgin, royalty x servant)
- spoonfucking
- breath play
- toys (prostate wand, dildo)

A Joyfully Jay review.

2.5 stars

This book started out holding my attention with Luca and Andreas being introduced. Andreas regularly goes out clubbing and hooks up with different men, but he’s not enjoying it much anymore. He’s putting himself into dangerous situations, but he’s not sure how to stop himself. And then his personal and professional life meet up.

Luca doesn’t think he is good enough for a man like Andreas. His family is way too involved in his business and it’s his sister that arranges a first date for him with Andreas. The book is then heavy on the instalove and their relationship moves at lightning speed with a lot of details being off page.

Both men like role playing with some mild BDSM added in and they try it out with each other from the start. The men don’t know each other and there is no real discussion of limits or wants or needs on page, with the exception of Luca saying he won’t hurt Andreas and Andreas choosing a safe word.

I liked the characters as they were introduced, but the fast pace and lack of on page relationship development didn’t work for me with this one.

Im really on the fence with this one! I love Sophia's writing style and enjoyed the quirky characters, the family dynamics, the almost pushed together hookup come come whatever you wanna call it after the previous flirting and rejection

BUT

The kinky bits in the story did not appeal to me at all (and I read all sorts). It just seem over the top and fake and it for sure needed a safeword that wasn't Stop!

DNF @ 39%.

I liked how this started out, but my enjoyment was quickly bogged down by the run on sentences, the overuse of commas (often where they shouldn't be), the internal dialogue, the superfluous background information, the random interjection of said information and hopping back and forth frok one point to the other, and the same lines being repeated endlessly.

This adorable story caught my eye and then captured my heart.

Luca comes from a traditional Italian family where the house is one giant open door and there are no secrets. Andreas is not so lucky. He's lived a life of privilege where he's been catered to, pampered, shipped off to school, and given everything except an actual family and people who know and love him.

For months, twinky Andreas has caught the eye of Luca at the local bar, as well as the eye of a new man each night for months. He's let them rough him up, manhandle him, and treat him like the slut he is, only to resent himself later. But when he catches Luca watching him week after week, he decides Luca may be different. And he's right.

Luca wants love. He wants fate. Family. Friendship. Forever. Not someone who gives themselves away to anyone at any time. But he can't get over how beautiful Andreas is. So when Andreas walks up to him and propositions him, they both have a rough time with Luca's rejection.

Fate intervenes in the form of an evil sister and Luca and Andreas share the first date of a lifetime. They throw everything on the table. Their loves, their fears, their pasts, their dreams, their kinks...

This book had me laughing out loud. Luca's family was so loud and welcoming and their home always had something going on. The story took two men from very different backgrounds and lifestyles, gave them a night of passion and fear and lust and joy that changed both their lives. They also found common ground in the bedroom that had hilarious lines and hospital visits that just showed how open they were with each other and their dynamic about being adventurous in life together.

What started as an argument grew into a journey of hope and need. Sophia Soames has orchestrated a brilliant story with characters you can't help but fall in love with.

Ship of Fools is an incredible, emotional romance by Sophia Soames. Everything about this story is wonderful. It would be fantastic as just a regular romance, but the fact that it's at Christmastime makes it extra special.

It's the tale of two flawed men, who have never been able to find that someone special. But, with looks across a barroom, some work together, and the help of a Christmas "elf,", everything changes.

Luca and Andreas have a strong connection, but an even sweeter way of getting to know one another and being honest with each other. Their story has some amazingly cute and tender moments that add up to be special. Their story seems so easy, so natural, and totally perfect, as they make each other better, finding someone who makes them feel better about themselves.

And their story includes plenty of cute roleplaying, some rough sex, and humiliation.

In the end, this is a tale of two men who find their way with each other. Both were looking for something, never knowing what it was they needed. But together they can be open and honest, cute and funny, and real and vulnerable.

As for my favorite character, that just has to be Bea. She is fabulous. Trust me, you will love her.

The writing is stellar, with that special style the author has with every book she writes. The men are wonderful, with layers and flaws, and their storyline is tender and emotional. I love the way Sophia works with emotions, with them front and center throughout. Add in the secondary characters, like Luca's sister, and everything is perfect.

Ship of Fools is a wonderful read. This Sophia Soames gem is beautiful through and through.

The author's uncanny way of portraying quirky characters in a realistic way that makes the reader empathise with them, is what makes this story special ♥

Andreas is a mess with a decent job, slutty attitude and a twinky body. His family doesn't approve of anything he does or who he is which doesn't help his constant doubt in himself.

Luca, with a body honed by hard work, is the quiet type but when he sees Andreas in a club, he can't take his eyes off the man.

With the heart-gripping story, Andreas's family drama, Luca's quirky but loving family, and a great cast of supporting characters, this story was an entertaining read.

Now, all that aside…
The sex was scorching HAWT 🔥🔥🔥

A short story packed with so much, you'll be left satisfied but gasping for more.

Let me first say... I love this writer’s style. It’s unpredictable and I’m a bit addicted to it.

Luca and Andreas are a bit of an unlikely pair. I loved the vulnerability and trust they showed each other. It was very swoony. Since they trusted one another, boundaries were pushed. This was HOT and sexy.

I loved Luca’s family so much. Andreas was raised by wolves and I wished his whole family would fall into the sea.

If you want a sexy and minimal angst holiday themed story, this is definitely the book for you.

This was one of those books where, while I immediately fell in love with the main characters, they initially didn't seem to make much sense as a couple. But, the more I got to know them and the author revealed layers of their personalities, the more the story sucked me in and showed me that they were actually perfect for each other.

And, well, I loved being proven wrong. It was fascinating to watch Luca and Andreas meet, flirt, chase and eventually give in to one another and the unexpected emotions they both felt. I had fun seeing them together and, as the story unfolded, the way each impacted and changed the other's life.

Ship of Fools was silly when serious happened, succeeded to have me snickering even as a tear was spilling down my face, made me shake my head incredulously one moment and then sigh happily the next. It made me a believer in the unlikely love and filled my heart with warmth and joy. Loved it!

Me han gustado mucho más otros libros de esta autora, este no, 2.5*
Los personajes no me encantan y son completamente opuestos en personalidad, rasgo que podría aprovechar para que la relación cuajara, pero no lo hace y no te crees nada de nada.

Today it's been 2 years since Sophia's first book came out!
And what a ride.
i'm a big fan of Sophias, I love her writing style and
the way she manages to get me lost in the world she creates.

I Love christmas books, and this one is on top on my list

Luac and Anderas are fantastic, on the outside they don't match.
But when it comes to love they need each other.
They find a way to live and love in their one style.

Andreas and Luca are complete opposites. Luca is quiet, steady, and reliable. He isn't much of a drinker or a partier and he's very close with his loving family. A mechanic and custom car designer and builder with his father's business, he's sometimes lonely but that seems preferable to opening himself up to being hurt.

Andreas is a flighty, promiscuous, twink who, despite having a good job at which he excels, spends his nights getting plastered and more often than not waking up with a stranger. When he wakes up one morning with a shocking set of bruises all over his body, with NO idea how they got there, he starts to think he may be taking enormous chances with his safety. He also realizes that the person he becomes at nights and on weekends is someone he doesn't like very much.

Luca has been watching Andreas at the local bar for a while, but the last person he expects to see when he shows up for a business meeting about an extremely expensive custom car - is Andreas. Both men are somewhat flustered, but they make it through their meeting and then spend the next few weeks dancing around each other.

On Christmas Eve Luca's mischievous little sister commandeers his phone and texts Andreas, setting up a walking date in a torrential downpour The walk turns into spending the night together, which turns into spending Christmas Day together, which turns into being together for weeks. It's like as soon as they are together, they both see that they've found exactly who they've been looking for. And even though they are both terrified of being hurt, and of hurting each other, they muddle through.

Both men have some kinks that may trigger some people, and some of the things they did to each other made me cringe, but it was always very clear that anything that happened between them was entirely consensual on both parts. It might not be my personal taste, but it was interesting and eye opening to read about people who like very different things. And they clearly adore each other, which comes through clearly.

Ship of Fools is an interesting read, and I was fond of the characters, especially Luca. If you're looking for a steamy, edgy read where everything is clearly consensual, definitely give it a try.

It’s Christmastime, which means more Christmas stories. This one has a bit more angst than I expected, but it wasn’t super heavy. You will experience various emotions when reading this book, and it’s a big range!

I felt like the writing was well done, and a lot of thought went into the characters in this story. Our main characters were both flawed men, but there added layers that kept us engaged by their presence in the story. They were not a good match, on paper, but somehow made their pairing both work and make sense. Once I got to know these men, past the initial meeting, I couldn’t imagine them with anyone else. I loved them together and cheered their relationship on.

I’m not that into kinky relationships; the milder, the better. To be fair, I am ace, so some of that is all on me. Despite saying that, there was something beautiful, and perfect with the sexual aspect of their life. It not only worked for them, it fit who they were, as men...as a person. I feel like this aspect of their relationship was an important part of their story, and wasn’t just thrown in just to make it steamy.

If you enjoy a book that challenges your heart and mind, putting you through the paces of your range of emotions, and leaves you better for it, then this book is for you. If you’re looking for just a feel-good holiday romance, this might fit the bill, but it may be a bit too much. It might not though. This doesn’t fall under ‘fluffy’, but you will experience happiness and joy. So, what the heck—give it a try.

Ship of Fools
My Thoughts and Review:

Ohhh Mmmyyyy PHOEBE! This was an absolute train wreck of over the top, this is so crazy it could totally happen in real life, gay Romance. I loved every whacked-out moment of it! When I first started listening to this book (TTS) I wasn’t sure I was going to appreciate the story, but once the two MCs got over the awkward not so meet-cute, I grew to love and appreciate them for the complex characters they were. I also laughed quite inappropriately at all the inappropriateness. When in Rome and all that, ya know. 😁

Beyond the romance, I loved the family dynamics from both the MCs’ families, even the ugly dysfunctional messiness, because it showed the “nature v. nurture” theme in a tremendous way. The families were very relatable, especially the siblings.

This was a real Holiday treat for me. I have not had the pleasure of reading from this author’s library before. I will be back for more in the future.

Please note, the couple in this story are finding their way in a kink and fetish lifestyle that works for them. While this is not a story about a couple in the BDSM lifestyle, it could still fall under that umbrella.

Ship of Fools is another stellar book from Sophia Soames. It is an incredibly emotional romance about two men who finally find what they need in each other. The writing is extraordinary, the characters are flawed and layered and impossible not to like, and the storyline is perfectly paced to draw out the undeniable connection between Luca and Andreas. Another draw is how their intimacy is handled. It delves into BDSM and there is some very hot roleplaying and roughness, as well as slow and sweet exploration of the tenderness and vulnerability that develops between the two men. I very highly recommend this beautiful Christmas romance!

There's something quite unique and beautiful about Sophia Soame's books and I have loved and thoroughly enjoyed each one I have read.
I read Custard and Kisses (Ru 💖) just before starting Ship of Fools as they are set in the same place, which made me super excited to start Ship of fools.
I adored Luca and Andreas and their story was wonderful start to finish. Brilliantly written, romantic, a bit sad, funny and perfect.

Great book. It delved a bit into a side of BDSM than I care for, but the characters more than made up for it. I absolutely loved Luca’s crazy Italian family! Adding Andreas into the mix just made it better. He fit in so well from the first moment.
It was a lot of fun except for “them”. I think Andreas would be quick to agree.
All in all, a low-stress romp with Italian food. What’s not to love?

This was just as amazing as usual. I love books from Sophia. If you dont fall in love with Andreas and Luca, then i dont understand.

Andreas is just lonely, and try hard to fit in. Spends a lot of evenings with Charlie at the club. He then meet Luca a late night, or rather several nights. He’s just there - at the bar. Looking.

Then something fun happens 😉 and they meet another place, in another setting.
Could they be friends?

Another fantastic book from Sophia! I absolutely adored Andreas even when he was a reckless slut, it was so heartbreaking to see just how lost he really was. Luca stole my heart with how emotional he was, his family are fantastic especially Bea and his mum. Luca and Andreas in the bedroom is some of the hottest scenes I have read but I just loved all of the sweet tender moments, these guys are absolutely beautiful together.

I absolutely love the way that Sophia Soames writes and so I was rapt when I was given the chance of reading an ARC of Ship of Fools. I read it within a couple of hours and I thoroughly enjoyed that couple of hours.
Sophia has an unusual style of writing and I find it to be very calm and relaxing. She writes in the present tense which is something that I normally don't like but Sophia makes the story so interesting that I am happy to overlook this.
The story is good - it's a case of opposites attract and overcoming adversity. Andreas has made some not so good decisions and he is more interested in a one stand stand or the casual lover. Luca is the opposite but he and Andreas are the perfect pair. There are some obstacles to overcome and Andreas' family is not the most supportive but Luca's family is great.
I have no problem in recommending Sophia's latest story.

Have to say that this isn't my favourite Sophia Soames read, (I'm a massive fan!), but, despite this, I still enjoyed it. As usual the story is quirky and intelligent, with two guys who appear to be mismatched, but, under it all, are perfect for each other. It's quite an emotional story, with some light hearted moments, it has a lovely HEA. I adored Luca's family.

I had trouble connecting with this book: the MCs are very interesting, their background stories, their past experiences, their fears, all of it is well developed, but the writing didn't keep me captivated.
I love Sophia Soames' books and I'm used to their instalove and feelings all over the place, I actually enjoy them very much.
But this time something was off: Luca saying "I won't hurt you" over and over again was a little annoying, Andreas' past experiences with men and his passive behaviour made me uncomfortable (especially the threesome with his friend), the sex scene in the epilogue was too long.
This is the first time I can't fully appreciate this author, I'm quite shocked.
