In this fourth book in the series, Agent Victoria Heslin is looking to recuperate with her family at Lake Lucinda after being involved in a tragic plane crash. Unfortunately, her respite is cut short with a grisly discovery of a body in the lake! Ruff does a really great job of creating a fast paced, interesting story that involves a number of possible suspects. We get to know Agent Heslin on a deeper level by learning about her family and how difficult it can be when a member of her own family becomes a suspect in the crime. As always with this series, I didn't want the story to end! A highly entertaining mystery from beginning to end!

I received an advance copy of this novel and this is my honest and unbiased review.

I have fallen for this series, Victoria is like the Ever ready bunny - she just keeps on going no matter the consequences to herself. Ripple of Doubt is a superbly written novel with outstanding characters. This is an edge of the seat book, you can't wait for what's going to happen next. Anyone who enjoys mystery/suspense/thriller books this is a must read. Jenifer Ruff is an exceptional author that will keep you reading and when you reach the end you'll wish there was more to read.

I was given an ebook by the author and this is my voluntary, honest review.

This is the full package…

In this 4th book of the Agent Victoria Heslin series, Victoria is still recovering from injuries sustained in a plane crash that was the central story of the last book. She, her father, and her brother, Alex, are spending some family time at their lake house in West Virginia. What was supposed to be a relaxing and rejuvenating trip evolves into a nightmare when she and her father find a body out on the lake one morning. As it happens, Alex is quite possibly the last person to have seen or spoken with the deceased and, therefore, becomes a person of interest in the eyes of local law enforcement who are not at all impressed with Victoria’s credentials as an FBI profiler. As the investigation unfolds, more questions arise than answers are uncovered. Victoria and her father are absolutely convinced of Alex’s innocence but Victoria, being a highly trained investigator, starts entertaining some uncomfortable questions about her brother. Other than Alex, no one seems to know anything about the young woman. Victoria uses her contacts at the FBI to uncover some background information about some of the local residents in the hopes of exonerating her brother. She finds that there are others who may have had their own reasons to have harmed the girl. Soon enough, another body, this time a well-known local, turns up and the tension escalates. This book is an excellent addition to a superlative series. It offers the reader a full package – suspense, tension, drama, murder, and a touch of romance. The dogs, donkeys, and foxes are an added bonus and their antics, at times, provide some much needed comic relief. I love this series for the wonderful mysteries, the unique characters, and the occasional subtle dashes of humor sprinkled in just the right spots. While the characters and their relationships do evolve as the series progresses, each book can be read as a standalone without any confusion or difficulty understanding the story. Honestly, though, I think that if you read one, you will want to read them all. They are that good!

I was provided with an advance copy of this book but I am voluntarily offering my honest and unbiased review.

If you love the genre psychological thriller, well developed characters, whom you will like, and a layered twisty plot, you will love this book. It is the usual Jenifer Ruff, I love because she expertly folded in all of her scrumptious ingredients for a great book.

What's great? Well, you know. You really need to go back to the responsibilities of life, but you just can't put this book down. You are trying to figure out who did it, and perhaps why.

This is book 4 of 4, but Ms. Ruff writes all of her books with the option to read as a stand alone. Honestly, Victoria Heslin is such a likable character in so many ways. If you met her out and about, or doing her job as an FBI agent, you'd never know, she really didn't need to work. Solving crime is her passion. She is an animal lover. This does it for me, but she is a person whom you would love, with or without her greyhounds and donkeys. One of her characters adores her so much, even his dog allergy doesn't deter him from pursuit of friendship with Victoria. Friendship? A bit romantic too......but it's credible romanticism, and the relationships do not overcome the plot, as some I have read do. That kind of romance, is not for me. This book gives just a perfect balance for modern psychological thriller readers. Enjoy!!

I loved this book. This book continues on from the last book (When they find us) and deals with the aftermath that our hero found herself in caught up in when her plane crashed, it is a standalone book but as it is mentioned several times and is a great adventure I would recommend starting with that book before getting sucked into this one, you won't be disappointed. I loved the fact that Victoria couldn't go on holiday without taking all her dogs and donkeys, even tough FBI agent's have a gentler side. Although we have always known that from her previous books, why else was she on the plane that crashed, but in this book we really get to know that side of her and it makes her who she is one of the best FBI characters there is. The rest of the characters were good and even included a couple of characters that you wished would prove to be the killer just so she could arrest them. The mystery was really good and will have you suspecting everyone. With so much going on, I didn't want it to end. Can't wait for the next book.
Victoria survived the plane crash but will she survive the family vacation? Her brother, father and rescue animals have all joined her at there family vacation home on lake Lucinda, to spend time with each other before Victoria returns to her job at the FBI. One the first morning Victoria and her father stumble over a body while boating. The body belongs to a young woman who she was her brother talking to in the middle of the night and Victoria is afraid that she is his girlfriend who supposedly had a fight with him and went home before she and her dad arrived. But it's not and nobody knows who she is or how she got in the water. All the police know is that her brother is the only person admitting to having any knowledge of her, putting him at the top of the suspect list. Even with a few doubts about her brother, why is he acting so strange and why is he disappearing? Victoria starts her own investigation to clear his name. She doesn't have much even with tech support from her FBI colleagues
as the sheriff doesn't want her anywhere near his case. Then it gets for worse her brother and the body disappears and another body is found. Just what is going on in what was meant to be a great place to rest and relax? Can she clear her brother's name or are the secrets going to stay buried at the bottom of lake Lucinda?
I like the narrator and am glad she is the authors chosen narrator for this series. She does such a good job and I can't imagine anybody else as Victoria.

I was actually this book by a friend of mine on TikTok and I’m glad I did.
As an avid reader of mystery and thriller novels, I was immediately drawn to "Ripple of Doubt," the fourth installment in the Agent Victoria Heslin series. I have never read this author before this is my first time nor did I have to read any of her previous books to understand this book.

The story kicks off with a chilling discovery: the lifeless body of a young woman found submerged in Lake Lucinda. FBI Agent Victoria Heslin, still recovering from a traumatic plane crash, finds herself thrust into a murder investigation in her own family's secluded lake house. What begins as a tranquil retreat with her father and brother quickly morphs into a high-stakes quest for truth and justice.

One of the strengths of this novel is its well-crafted characters, each harboring their own secrets and motives. Victoria's own family members become suspects, adding layers of complexity to the investigation. The tension mounts as Victoria dives deeper into the enigmatic world of Lake Lucinda's elite residents, uncovering a web of deceit and betrayal.

The author skillfully builds suspense, which kept me on the edge of my seat with unexpected twists and turns. From clandestine affairs to buried scandals, every revelation adds another layer to the intricate puzzle Victoria must solve. As the stakes escalate, so does the danger, and Victoria finds herself facing adversaries who will stop at nothing to protect their secrets.

What sets "Ripple of Doubt" apart is its exploration of familial bonds amidst chaos and deception. Victoria's personal struggles and fractured relationships add emotional depth to the narrative, reminding me that even the strongest among us have vulnerabilities.

Overall, "Ripple of Doubt" is a masterfully crafted thriller that kept me guessing until the very end.

3.5 stars.

This is the second book I've read in this series, and I think I'm going to aim to read the rest! I just really enjoy the Agent Heslin books. She's a fun character to spend time with, along with her literal pack of dogs and other animals. She's still got the "but I can't commit right now!" thing going on in her love life, but hey, it's a multi-book series, you have to milk SOMETHING.

I like the mystery here, too. There were a lot of clues to pin together, and her brother being involved added a new layer of intrigue. I also enjoyed meeting her dad, and the setting of this book made me crave a vacation.

Like the second book, I read this out of order and it was totally understandable, BUT if you can read these in order, do so. You will get additional character development stuff and references to her past case/cases will make sense.

Anyway, this book is a little more good old entertaining mystery fun than book 2 - the discussion of human trafficking added a certain depth - but I don't see anything wrong with that. I've loved Nancy Drew since I was a little girl, and this book reminds me of a grown up version of that.

The one poor spot was the ending - I just didn't find it AS satisfying as I was expecting. Not bad, though.

Content wise, like the the last one, there was no "on page" sexual content, even if the books deal with pretty dark themes.

I really didn’t like the last two books so I doubt that I’ll continue with the series. In this one I couldn’t believe, for one, that she would immediately suspect her own brother for nothing more than the sin of her waking up in the middle of the night and seeing him talking to the victim. I know it would take me so much more to suspect my own brother. And the many times in here that she suspected him of something is even more ridiculous. It was to the point she didn’t even really suspect anyone else. But it most mostly internalized unfortunately so her brother didn’t know quite how deeply she didn’t believe in him. Sickening. I don’t think I can choke down anymore of these books. And then there was the “confusion” about her feelings between Reviera and Ned. I already knew she was going to choose a certain one but she continued leading the other guy on and it just ticked me off. I usually don’t write reviews much because I don’t know how to do it without giving much away so I mostly just give it stars. But between the last two books of this series I just got fed up. I had to write something about this one. I’m only giving it a 2 star review because she does eventually come to her senses about her brother but only after a potential fatal accident.

I can’t put this series down, it is very entertaining.
But. Before you begin reading this particular episode there are a few things you need to know:

A greyhound called Izzy and a recalcitrant donkey called Oscar find a body. And potentially crack the case….

The bad guy is obvious from the getgo. The bad guy’s crimes I couldn’t get to grips with and seemed as meaningless as they were inherently daft; with more holes in the plot than my winter socks and they’re six years old. So unbelievably unbelievable….

Victoria is still rich, still very annoying, and it pains me to say, still a bit of a scrubber…..Ned, Dante, Harrison, even Sheriff Hayes are all in her line of fire (and even though she lost some fingertips in the previous book she still reckons she’s an accurate shot where her attractiveness is concerned - pick one dearie, pick ONE).

Great fun though, full of remarkably abhorrent characters, all of whom are American, FBI or otherwise, so, never mind.
Love the animals (none of whom were hurt during the making of this novel apart from when Phoebe threw that rock and what on earth was she doing in this book, anyway)?

In my opinion Ripple of Doubt is a great addition to the series. Jenifer Ruff grabbed my attention in the prologue and kept me engaged to the end. I made my initial guess at the start and was right. Jenifer Ruff did a great job creating doubt in my guess. In my opinion I thought she did a good job of keeping the reader guessing. I loved getting to know her brother, father, her dogs and donkeys. I loved how even with her doubts she still kept working for the right answers. Her dealings with the local sheriff was things that go on in todays world. Whether it was bias because she's FBI, because of her brother or because she is a woman. If you are a Victoria Heslin fan then I would recommend Ripple of Doubt. If you have not read any of the other books in the series you can read Ripple of Doubt but there are some references to previous books. If you mystery, twist and turns in my opinion give it a go. I read on Kindle Unlimited.

In the fourth novel in the Agent Victoria Heslin series, Victoria is at the family lake house with her father and brother, recovering from her injuries sustained after a plane crash. What is supposed to be a relaxing family trip turns into a nightmare when she and her father find the body of a young woman in the lake. Unfortunately, Alex, her brother, is front and center as the main suspect. Try as she might, Victoria, a highly trained investigator and FBI profiler, is torn. As a sister, she knows Alex is innocent, but as an agent, things are adding up on the suspect list, especially since he is the last one to see her alive, and no one in the small town knows who this stranger is. As with all Jenifer Ruff novels, Ripple of Doubt is a great read. The twists and turns keep you guessing in this fantastic thriller. I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

Relaxing, party of zero

Victoria is healing from the plane horrors and goes to a lake house with her family, but it turns out to be anything but relaxing. There is the theme of small town, rich vs locals, and of course the crime and events that led to the crime. All animals are present and we get to see Victoria with her family and facing a local officer who is less than impressed. Love dad Heslin and found the story and details intriguing. The ending was quite different then expected and whole sad I thought it was a great ending to this crime story. Rivera does appear and help solve the case and Ned is present via thought and phone call. The romantic angle takes a slight turn and then perhaps a u-turn or just swirls?! This is a great series and I am excited for the next book.

This was my favorite in the Victoria Heslin series yet! I love the location for the storyline. As the fourth book, we finally get to know Victoria. We get a bigger peek into Victoria the person, as well as the FBI agent. The more you know Victoria, the more you grow to love her. I really enjoyed the addition of the donkeys and the time Victoria and her dad got to spend together albeit with a murder in the backdrop. Was I wrong to celebrate that there is something Victoria doesn’t do perfectly? Even if it is just baking cookies it is nice to know that she is truly imperfectly perfect. The mystery was captivating and had my heart racing at times. I feel like Victoria’s life took a baby step forward and I like the direction it is going. Don’t stop here Jenifer!

Quiet vacation, Not!

At their family house in the mountains , the Heslin family is planning to relax during the week after Christmas . Victoria , her father and brother , and all dogs and donkeys . Lol. During a boat ride the first day , Victoria sees a body in a cove. From then on there is stress and confusion . Victoria is thin and recovering from the horrendous plane crash in the previous book. Minus some finger tips , wondering how that will affect her work. Bias from the local Sheriff . Missing Ned and Rivera . Who is the dead woman . Who are the other people in the secluded "rich " area of town .
Still worth 5 stars even with a typo .

I received this an ARC. Jennifer knocks it out of the park yet again! Victoria, a FBI profiler, always seems to find herself in a tough situation. Victoria has two different men vying for her love and attention. Riveria, a co-worker,deeply cares about Victoria, and understands how dangerous her career can be. Ned, her dog walker, vet of her beloved dogs, connects with her on a deep level. The connection between Victoria and both men is undeniable! Just when I think Riveria is the man for her, Ned changes my mind.
Ripple of doubt, was a quick and easy read. I would love to see the storyline made into a tv series!

I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review. The next book in Jenifer Ruff’s Agent Victoria Heslin series, Ripple of Doubt, is supposed to be about Victoria recovering and relaxing. She goes with her father and brother to the family lake house but soon there is a body found. As her brother is a possible suspect, she can not be involved in the investigation but she tries to solve it anyway. The usual twists and turns ensue as we learn more about her father and brother as well as the neighbors. I knew I wasn’t going to put it down till I finished it—short night of sleep but worth it!

This one is one that tickles the senses with the mystery of a murder. Follow along with Agent Victoria as she recupes at the family lake house from a plane crash. Oh no soon she is the one comes across the murdered body in the lake. It seems also only a few people around along with her brother that make them all under the microscope to be looked at for the murder. Intrigue is only the beginning of this lake area with those yummy secrets that tantalize suspense readers. This one will take you in right away capturing you too, having you turn those pages to get the answers. Lake mysteries also seem to hold alot of allure with this one doing that too.

This was a good book. Although it is not the first book in the series, I was able to follow what was happening and where everyone belonged without any problem. All the characters and situations were realistic, and the author did a good job describing the settings. Although I thought I knew who the killer was about three quarters of the way through the book, I had to stick with it to find out if I was right, and to see how the mystery was solved. The story is a page turner, and I recommend it to those who like a good mystery. I received a copy of the book from Book-reads. All opinions expressed are my own.

In part 4 of the Agent Victoria Heslin series, her brother is under suspicion for murder and she has some doubts about his innocence. Things just don’t add up! This book covers all the bases: murder, drama, suspense, intrigue, twists and turns, mystery, and a touch of romance. Aside from the murder she’s trying to help solve, there’s her love life that she’s unsure of. (I’m leaning toward Rivera!). It’s an entertaining page turner that kept my attention all the way through. This honest review is based on a complimentary copy from the author

Um, interesting

A fast paced interesting read, which just didn’t have the ending the story led me to anticipate. It kind of fell flat, pardon the pun if you read this. After the excitement building throughout the book, the ending was a soft one. A bit of a let down.
Plus there was no explanation as to why she chose to be with the fellow she chose. That was left out.
So while it’s well written, the authour failed to see things from the readers point of reading and wanting to know.
Otherwise enjoyably clean in words, thoughts and actions.

The writing is fine. (Twice used “I” when direct object “me” was required..picky, I know, but still..)

I didn’t like: Victoria’s constant inner monologue.. “Why do I keep suspecting Alex?”x 10.. “How do I feel about Ned?” x 10..”How do I feel about Rivera?” x 10.. “I’m so confused.” Well, obviously!! Get it together, Girl because I’m tired of this.

I disliked the narrator. Her narrator voice was fine, but I find her Victoria voice too high. In my opinion, she’s also a poor actor…overacting, weird delivery affect in conversations.

Being a FBI Agent seems to be a time consuming job, a few days with her dad and brother at the cabin is what she needed
An early morning boat ride soon changed that. Was her brother the last person to see the victim alive, and how many beers did he have.
They didn’t want her help, she wanted answers.
A simple case that soon escalated into so much more.
A good series, and in this once again a good plot to the end

Really enjoyed this book! The main character, Agent Heflin, is a very smart FBI agent who is able to keep her cool when her own brother becomes the major suspect in a murder investigation that occurs as her family attempts a relaxing vacation. All of their plans are turned upside down. Heflin vows to clear her brother’s name in the investigation.

A Good Mysyery

This is the 3rd book I've read in this series. It didn't disappoint. It is well-written, keeping the readers interest. The characters are interesting. Rescuing the donkeys and hauling them to a beach house seems a bit farfetched, even for an animal lover like Victoria.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it. The characters were well-developed and the action moved well. It had an interesting, layered plot. Having her personal interest flip between multiple men made the heroine seem a little shallow at times, but we all have our faults. I would enjoy reading more of this series.

My Musings

I enjoy Victoria's character and the plot is intriguing with several twists and turns, but she is a most unusual FBI agent. She doesn't have the level of cynical attitude I find. Still glad I found this one in Kindle Unlimited with the audio included. Happy reading and listening!
