What's a girl to do when she finds a sexy giant bathing in the river? Emelie
Who leaves their girlfriend in the woods after a fight?
My now EX-boyfriend that’s who. One fight, okay a BIG fight because I found out he was cheating on me while we were camping and poof! He left me in the words.
So, I start walking to town, only I get turned around end up at the river where I meet Axel. This guy is HUGE.
With a storm rolling in I don’t have much choice but to trust him and take shelter in his cabin since I’ve been walking for hours AWAY from town.
Several days of rain wash out the road and it looks like I’m stuck here with my giant. Only he’s nothing like I thought he’d be. He’s quiet, watchful, smart, and funny.
Axel
I’ve lived alone for years and I’ve been okay with that until one day she finds me bathing at the river.
She is small, cute, and talks a lot. I find I don’t mind it.
When the storm washes out the only road into town and she is stranded with me a while longer only I am grateful for more time with her.
I like her in my space, I like showing her what I do, and how I survive out here. I like her in my bed.
After years of living alone, I find little appeal in it anymore.
When her ex-boyfriend shows up at my door can I convince her to stay?
Can I ask her to give up a life in town for one out here in the mountains with me?

Take Me To The River is book one in the Mountain Men of Whiskey River series by Kaci Rose. This is my very first book by Kaci. First, lets all take a moment and just share in the gloriousness of this cover. I mean, WOW! Yes, I already had a thing for sexy mountain men but it wouldn’t matter after seeing this cover.
Emelie Owen and her boyfriend were just getting set up at their camp site for a much needed vacation when Emelie discovers the reason for all her boyfriends late nights. But her now ex-boyfriend abandons her right there in the woods, taking everything with him. She’s in the Montana mountains with no idea how to find her way back to the road. She takes what she thinks is the right path, only it isn’t and ends up at a river with the hottest man she’s ever seen bathing. With night coming soon and a huge storm on the way, she has no one else to trust but this giant of a man. He is either her greatest fantasy or her worst nightmare.
Axel Ingleson has lived alone in the woods for years. He loves his life here. He’s a huge man who tends to frighten anyone who doesn’t know him. He’s accepted that he’ll be alone forever. Until that day, the day the most beautiful and also scared woman found him bathing in the river. He knows they don’t have long to get to his cabin before the storm hits and gladly, she accepts his help. He loved the way she looked in his home. He knew within the first day that he wanted her there with him forever. Could he convince her that life on the mountain with him could be for her?
“This woman is the miracle I prayed for but never expected to find”
I loved the way these two were together. Being up on that mountain in Axel’s world awakened Emelie to a life she never knew existed. She took to it so easily. And she fell fast and hard for this gentle giant of a man. Axel was huge, protective, all alpha, but also soft and warm and so wonderful to her. He showed her how a woman is supposed to be treated. Their life on that mountain was like a dream, until her ex showed up at the front door.
I loved this book. Axel was a dream. I adore insta love romance. These two were just existing until they found each other. It was like suddenly all the colors were brighter in their world. Now I can’t wait for the next book in the series, Axel’s friend, Phoenix’s story in Take Me To The Cabin. Until then, I will be looking through all of Kaci’s back list. I can’t wait to see what else catches my eye!
The premise was good. I liked the plot and the characters. Especially Axel. He was sweet and protective. However, it was an insta love and there were a few repetitions throughout the story.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙❤️💜💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍 Character development: 😚☹️😉🥰 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Emelie - while on a camping trip with her boyfriend, she picks up his phone when he keeps getting text messages and finds out he has been cheating on her. When he gets back, she tells him she found out and needs some time, so she goes for a walk, but when she returns later in the day, he and all their stuff is gone, and it is getting cold out. She walks for miles and starts to worry that she will freeze and die.
The Hero:Axel - he has lived alone in the mountains of Montana for years. He is very tall and muscular with lots of tattoos, a real mountain of a man. He is washing in the river when Emelie comes upon him and asks for his help. She tells him what happened with her boyfriend, and Axel is attracted to the tiny woman, so it isn’t really any hardship to offer her his help.
The Story: By the time Axel and Emelie get to Axel’s cabin, it has started raining and the only way to town is on a road that washes out during the rain in the early spring. So, Emelie will have to stay with Axel for a few days at least. The two of them are attracted to each other from the start. Axel is very tall, nearly 7 feet, and most women from his past were a bit wary of him because of how big he is, so when he moved to the mountains, he had adjusted to the fact that he would probably be alone for the rest of his life. When Emelie came into his life, he started to feel things and want things.
I liked this mountain man and city girl romance. It was very sexy and there was a ton of chemistry between Axel and Emelie and a bunch of sexual tension. The mountain man trope is always fun because it is usually a bit of forced proximity and the characters get to know each other in the midst of extreme circumstances. I liked the fact that Emelie and Axel took the time to get to know each other.
This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration and was narrated by Krys Janae and Javi Wilder. Krys has a soft feminine voice that is very pleasant, and she sounds very natural. Javi has a nice gravelly voice that I really liked as well. Though at times, you could tell he was reading.
The only reason I read this book is because it's part of a series that has serious Seven Brides for Seven Brothers vibes. The female narrator might be the same person who does a lot of the dog voiceover videos I've seen. I thought they were done by AI. This book wasn't professionally edited. It had clunky wording and full on grammatical errors in places. It read like it was written by a 9th grader who's watched too much porn. It was the worst example of insta love that I've ever read. Her boyfriend takes Emelie camping. She finds out he's been cheating on her. He packs up and leaves her in the woods; alone with no supplies. She tries to get back to the road, but stumbles across the hot giant, Axel, naked in the lake. He takes her back to his cabin where they fall instantly in love. Actually, they don't even make it back to the cabin. She's his to love and protect forever before they even make it there. Eyeroll. She feels more loved and protected by this stranger than she ever did by foster brother boyfriend. YES, foster brother and not in a hot, The Problem With Forever way. Rain has washed out the road to town and she's stuck at his cabin. They hunt and make all kinds of gross jerky together, like bear and bobcat. They later skin and make ground beef out of coyotes and wolverines. Um, no. The ex tries to press charges on the hot giant, stating that he's holding his GF against her will. She presses charges on him instead. We have to suffer through, "I'm too big, I don't want to hurt you." They get married and live HEA. The series is set-up to get his 3 hermet friends GF's too. No thanks.

As soon as I saw “mountain man” I was sold. I am a sucker for stories where a woman is lost in the woods and falls for a mountain man and that’s exactly what we got here. But first, can we appreciate the cover!
I do have to say that if insta-love isn't your thing, then you won’t like this. It’s actually one of my favorites to read. Is it realistic, nope. But I don’t care. I always get swept up in the romance and fast paced of it all.
I really enjoyed Axel and Emelie’s relationship. They were really what each other needed and they fell into a relationship so easily. They both became someone that the other person could count on. Axel has insecurity issues because of his size and Emelie never felt real love. Of course they had chemistry and the sex scenes were pretty hot.
I’m intrigued by this group of men who are all loners in a way and live in the mountains. I’m glad this is a series and we will be getting a story about Phoenix next.
I like insta love/insta lust if it’s done right. I feel like this kind of missed the mark. It was an interesting storyline though.
This book kind of read like an instruction manual. It’s hard to explain, but I think it was the story structure and sentence flow.
For example: - He did this. - She did that. - I did this.
It was structured like this throughout the whole book.
It was almost like a step by step of everything that happened in the book, which made it seem very robotic. The whole book was telling and no showing.
The characters didn’t really have any depth. They were flat and I couldn’t connect with them.
Some of the sentences were extremely repetitive. The character would say one thing and then the next sentence would make the exact same statement, but worded differently.
This was a good book. Although being over five hours long it could have been three hours and not so dragged out. I am invested though so I will listen to the next one, just not sure when.
I DNFed this book at maybe 40 pages in. The scene where she’s waking up and rubbing herself…while he’s not awake. That’s not romance. That’s a trigger warning that didn’t get labeled. She doesn’t know this man. He doesn’t know her. This is what she gets up to in less than 24 hours?
Ok. Let’s talk about the writing. It’s relatively basic. There is no character development at all. Not quite sure how this book got so many solid reviews.
3,5 stars. This would’ve been 4 stars if it wasn’t for the wrong use of the word “too”. Like “referred too”. I’m not native with the English language, but I do know the difference between “too” and “to” and the wrong use of these two confused me.
For the book itself.. the storyline might be over the top, insta lust, unbelievable and sweet. But I liked it. This hero was an alpa, caveman, neanderthaler. He was so protective of the heroine. A big and strong built giant of a mountain man, sexy but oh so sweet, protecting his woman the best he can. Swoon. I believed his immediate attraction to the heroine. It was sad to read why he ended up on the mountain. I just don’t like bullies or treating people differently. I thought the feelings of the heroine evolved rather quickly, since she had a boyfriend up to the exact same day she met the hero. They were together 24/7 so that might speed up some things. But still. This was a cozy read and I will certainly read the other books in this series.
⚠️ Safety spoilers ⚠️ Safe. Hero not a manwhore and I believe celibate for years, ever since he moved to the mountain. Former girlfriends always dumped him because he (well actually his 🍆) was too big. Heroine had a boyfriend at the start of the book. She found out he cheated and that’s why she ended up meeting the hero. This OM causes some drama, because he wants her back although he has his side piece already moved into their apartment. She tells him straight no. The OW side piece makes a move on the hero near the end of the book. He puts her in her place immediately and isn’t having any of it. 👏🏻👏🏻 No cheating or sex with OP.
Take Me to the River was just so sweet. A feel good romance with all the fluff. I enjoyed it but I prefer a little more kinky debauchery and darkness 😂😂.
I like the characters, but some of this stuff was unbelievable.
The hardest part for me was all the extra commas. In places that made no sense.
The writing was rudimentary. It read like a debut. Which is fine- all authors start somewhere. But it was hard to get into because of the commas and stilted reading.
I like Axel, he’s a big soft teddy bear and Emelie is sweet and nice. But how she reacted when she woke up in his bed the first morning was all kinds of weird to me and not believable at all.
The premise was good, the execution could use some work and a comma check. My mind was tripping over all the weirdly placed ones.
Take Me To The River is book one in the latest series from Kaci Rose and if this book is anything to go by she has a winning series on her hands. Whilst Emelie is on a camping trip with her boyfriend Chris, she finds out that he has been cheating on her and after a massive fight the jerk leaves her alone in the woods. What she going to do? She has no choice but to start walking back to Whiskey River. Getting lost she winds up meeting Axel, a huge man who offers her shelter from the massive storm that’s about to hit.
There is a spark of attraction that ignites between them from the start. With the road washed out by the torrential rain it appears Emelie will have no choice but to stay with Axel. I loved Axel, I fell hard and fast for him, such a swoon worthy man. He is a man with a heart of gold who will care and protect Emelie no matter the cost to himself. He has lived alone in the woods for a long time, but meeting Emelie brings light into his sad and lonely life. Emelie falls not only for Axel but also for his way of life.
However what happens when her jerk of an ex turns up looking for her? Can Axel convince her to stay or is she destined to leave?
It’s a shame such a beautiful cover was wasted on this disaster. This book had everything I usually love- rugged mountain men, forced proximity, jealous ex, even insta-love. But it is by far one of the worst books I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading. First-the formatting: I honestly think that this was a Wattpad book that the author just transferred over without changing anything because theres a double space between every paragraph. Maybe she’s just out of highschool and it used to writing essays? And then the spelling errors, I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with so many. Grammar was nonexistent. There was barely any real conflict and the conflict that did happen wasn’t really conflict. The MMC treated the woman like she was his literal child, even going so far as feeding her every meal?? Also-this is a stupid note to end on but it’s clear this author has never gone hunting a day in her life. That wouldn’t be a big deal, except it was one of the sole things the characters did. I don’t like not finishing books, so I suffered through all 239 pages but you should save yourself the time.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
HOT! HOT! HOT! This story is a good start to the series of mountain men who find their special someone. Emelie has gone camping with her boyfriend only to discover he has been cheating on her. After exchanging a few heated words, she walking off to give herself some space. Upon returning to the campsite, she discovers the boyfriend has packed up everything and left her. Well Chris is now the ex-boyfriend for sure. Emelie decides her best option is to walk to the parking area and get a ride to the nearest town. The only thing wrong, she walks in the wrong direction! She comes upon a man bathing in a river. Due to an impending storm, Axel, the handsome giant, leads her to his cabin instead.
After several days of rain, the road down from the mountain going to town has been washed away. The only thing to do, return to the cabin and wait. Only now another storm has hit the area.
During this time, Axel and Emelie, use it wisely to talk and discover things about each other. You could see the sparks flying between these two as the e-reader heated up!
Axel is a very dominant alpha who only wants to protect what is his. Time spent with her has made Axel feel better about his size. Most everyone has feared him due to his size. Emelie wants to show her "giant" that he is worthy of love and she is going to give it.
This is also written in a dual POV format. I love that. It helps me to better understand the characters and why they say and do things in a scene.
This is a steamy romance so be prepared for sexy times and some dirty talk thrown in.
I like the cover. Sadly that’s about it for this book. It’s a mountain man/survivalist book and it drove me bonkers. Emilie and Axel meet when Emilie and her boyfriend are getting a campsite set up when she discovers by looking at his phone that he’s been cheating on her. She goes for a walk to cool off some and when she gets back to the site, she discovers everything’s packed up and disappeared, including all her stuff too. Not only that but she can tell it’s going to rain soon. She heads towards what she thinks is the road, only to get lost and discover some large, naked guy bathing in a river. Axel.
Well, they take one look at each other and it’s insta love. He takes her back to his cabin, the rain washes the road out, they’re stuck there for days, she wears his clothes with no underwear and he teaches her how to hunt. She brings down a deer her first attempt and they make lots of jerky. Axel wants to keep her and love her and hug her and look after her and never let her out of his sight and Emilie wants this too. He calls her Little One - constantly and she calls him My Giant - constantly until I wanted to SCREAM. And kept wanting to scream. About halfway through I skimmed, skimming past pages to get to the end. There was next to no character development unless neither one really had much of a character to develop.
Anyway, this book just didn’t work for me and I’m happy to move on to the next book.
I started this book accidentally because I thought it was a different book. I really should’ve stopped reading when I realised it wasn’t the book I wanted to read initially but no I had to continue. I have no one to blame but myself because all I feel is deep regret🧍🏾♀️Really bad book That being said I might read the second book💀💀
I actually can’t with this book. What book structure was used for this? Why is it rated so highly? This is a book that would appeal to anyone who hasn’t been in a relationship. His inner monologue is cringe. Her nickname name is “Little One”— that is surely a nickname only reserved for children. I hate this book. DNF at 50% (because the book was so short).
This was an insta-lust story. She had a libido like a rabbit. The man had been living alone in the mountains for so long that he was rather frisky too. Twelve hours after meeting eachother they're dry humping. Five days in they're going all the way. They never discussed STD's. I don't know why the male lead was so embarrassed by his height. He wasn't overweight by any means. There was no backstory for that or why he had so many scars. They do the nasty in the river. There's all kinds of things wrong with that. Water washes away natural lubricant. I like sex to spice a story, not for the story to be a vehicle for the sex. The author is ignorant of hunting laws in Montana. My dad always said to not hunt game in months that don't have an R in the name. There are a lot of typos. The author needs to get an editor, beta readers, and a proofreader.
This was a very tame and sweet read. It had some instalove vibes and very minor OM drama but otherwise the plot was mild but not terrible. Axel and Emelie were good characters and suited each other.
POV: Dual, 1st person. SERIES or STANDALONE: 1st in series, can be read as a standalone. TROPES: M/F adult, small town romance. SIZE: 208 (last page) Kindle pages.
PLOT: 📚📚📚📚/5 ROMANCE: ❤️❤️❤️❤️/5 SPICE/STEAM: 🌶🌶.5/5 DARKNESS/TRIGGERS: 😈/5 (hunting animals, death of parents, ex cheated on FMC).
I absolutely love this author’s series Oakside Military Heroes, so I just had to check her newest series out. Emelie and Axel are perfect together. Emelie finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her and then he leaves her in the middle of the woods to fend for herself. Thankfully she stumbles upon Axel bathing in the river and he takes her back to his cabin. She loves everything about the cabin even the gentle giant he rescued her. Axel is taken with Emelie also but he can’t believe she really and truly wants to be with a giant like him. Will she convince him that she does want to be at the cabin and with him?
I loved that it wasn’t high stakes. They end up together really quickly and didn’t have a stupid misunderstanding that complicated things. It was an easy, and sexy, read but the writing wasn’t that phenomenal and I struggled a bit to immerse myself in the story as it just didn’t make sense that it went SO well for them. It was a fun enough read though that I got the sequel.
This is both a 2 star book and a 4 star book earring a solid 3 stars. The classic tropes trope HARD. But it’s a fun and fast read. Is it predictable? Yes. Is it so cliche that it’s bordering lame territory? Yes. Could I put the book down? NOPE. Will I read the entire series? Probably. Will I laugh at the cringe worthy, unoriginal, fantastical characters? Yes. Will I enjoy every second of reading it? YES. (Probably)
Great short story! Listened to this with my husband on a road trip. He liked it even more than I did. Lots of outdoor/mountain living action and lots of steam/sex. Great storyline that kept us interested. When my husband found out it was first in a series he said we have to get the next one. We really liked how there was a different narrator for each of the two main characters. Highly recommend.
I loved Axel. How I have only just found these books I don't know, but I really did love it. Can't wait to read the rest of the series and hope they are as good. Was totally worth the book hangerover cos I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I liked Emilie, and I think they both gelled well together and found a strong connection together
