Lives change in an instant, but with family found and forever love, there is always hope.
Impetuously putting his life on the line, Adam saved a child trapped in a car wreck and suffered career-ending injuries. Living with chronic pain, and at his lowest moments, he had friends who wouldn't let him give up, a family who had his back, and even though his future was different from what he'd always planned, he at least had hope. When Cameron and Finn land on his doorstep, he never dreamed that he would fall in love with the small family or that maybe he'd get to be a hero again.
Cameron goes from being a devoted husband to a single dad overnight. With his neatly planned future in ruins, he will do anything to make a new life for his son, even if it means moving to the other side of the country. Renting a room from Adam is the first step in making a home for him and Finn, but falling for the former firefighter was never part of the plan.
The shadows from Cameron's past might take a long time to touch this fragile future, but will he have to face the consequences alone when they do? Or will there always be hope?
RJ Scott is a USA TODAY bestselling author of over 140 romance and suspense novels. From bodyguards to hockey stars, princes to millionaires, cowboys to military, she believes that love is love and every man deserves their own happy ending.
Book 4 in the bestselling Single Dads series follows the story of Adam, the firefighter who risked his life for a young child in a car accident, and then lost the only career he'd ever wanted.
The Single Dads series from RJ is one of my favourites of all her excellent output and this is another wonderful addition.
It's a little bit more angsty than the previous three imho, the subjects it deals with are more serious, dealing as they do with chronic pain and disability as as well as criminal behaviour.
But that's not to say it's all dramatic. There are some quite special moments of romance when two bruised and battered hearts realise they've found a safe home.
And also when Cam's son Finn realises he can make true friends who won't dump him because something he had no control over.
Adam's family are awesome, and we get to catch up with Asher, Eric and Leo and all their loved ones too.
Now, bring on Nick and his happy ending!

mmh, not really convinced by this book. the attraction came too fast and it kinda threw me off. the story was cute but could have been longer to build the relationship more.
Always is a wonderful addition to the Single Dads series. Cam and Adam both have quite bit of pain in the past. Adam is dealing with chronic pain and disability from a work related injury. Cam has had his life upended by the actions of his soon to be ex husband. He must now attempt a fresh start with his son. When these two meet there is chemistry and a connection that jumps off the page. Will they give this new beginning a chance or back away from fear of what might be? I gobbled this story up in one sitting and was left happy and so satisfied with their HEA! It also left me wanting to do a complete reread of this series!
This book was everything I was hoping for and so much more. RJ Scott is one of my all time favorite writers and an automatic one click when I see a new book from her. This is the fourth book in this series and it was just as good as the rest. I loved seeing Cam and Adam's attraction to each other grow throughout the story. They both had to work through some recent past difficulties and it was great to see them let each other in. The story was unique and will keep you turning each page because you can't wait to see what happens next.
Have your tissues ready before reading this book, it’s an emotional one. So good though. I loved Adam and Cam(with Finn) . So good together and happy. This book was a great addition to the series and I’m so looking forward to reading next book.
Cameron has to make a new life for himself and his son Flynn after his soon to be ex is jailed for ripping people off, Adam rents them rooms in his house. They fall in love and make a family.

Angie – ☆☆☆☆ The struggles Adam and Cam both go through are a bit heavy and angsty for this series. I loved watching them navigate things and falling for each other. Finn was an added bonus and I just adored watching him make friends. This isn't a light and fluffy read, but still a good read nonetheless.
Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆ This is the fourth book in the series, and although you wouldn't have to have read them in order, it would make more of the connections make sense... and they are all excellent reads, so why deny yourself!
Adam has bought the house that the guys from books 1-3 lived in, now that they are all in happy relationships. One only moved next door, so Adam's pool is still the place that everyone meets up when they are off shift. They are also keeping a close eye on him as he is still recovering from his life altering injuries. Be warned, it is quite traumatic how he got them, although utterly selfless.
Cameron is retreating from a horrible life in New York – I will let you read just what happened to him – with his young son, Finn. He is returning to San Diego, for now, to recover, and also because his best friend, Nick, has offered him help. Much as he feels guilty accepting, he knows that he really has no choice. It turns out that he is now renting a couple of rooms from Adam.
Cue an instant attraction, but the worst timing ever. Both men are in dark and difficult places, and Cameron is waiting to be found and exposed, even though he harbours no guilt in what transpired, other than being naive.
I loved the slow, intense, and caring relationship which develops between the two men, and how Finn gives us a good barometer of how progress is coming along. It was lovely to see Nick again, and to get the two men in a room and iron out all the issues their brains had erroneously created in their silence.
Really good addition to the series, and I look forward to Nick getting his story told next!

There was one thing Adam said to Cam, soon after they've met, that brought tears to my eyes:
“Judge me for the bits you can’t see”
The phrase held meaning to both of them, because both needed to be seen beyond the rubbles left of their lives.
And I loved that each saw the real heart of the other. Under the shame and guilt eating at him, Cam was kind and caring, and Adam had the brave soul of a hero, confined by the limitations of his broken body. They were two men who were trying to rebuild themselves and find a new direction for their lives. Cam also wanted a safe haven for his son, Finn, and Adam rarely experienced joy, living in a constant darkness of pain and anger. Strangers that immediately connected, recognizing the same loneliness and fears in the other's eyes, then friends that supported each other when the earth shook under their feet, to slowly grow in love, becoming tender lovers.
The author pulled no punches in writing this story. Everything was vividly and realistically written, yet with a sensitive touch: the fallout of embezzlement, the despair and ruin of so many, not only Cam. Adam's day by day, step by step battle for a semblance of normalcy. And, even if he didn't get his own POV, I really need to give a special mention to the bravest nine year old, Finn. His father's knight and first line of defense, almost an adult already, trying to let his walls down and being just a normal kid of his age.
I loved all three of them and seeing them finding home, safety and happiness together. Cam, Finn and Adam, broken but not shattered, imperfect pieces glued to form their own perfect family. And I loved their story, every page that broke my heart and all the moments that put it back together.
Always has a double dose of hurt/comfort with some starting over thrown in, and it’s all done without becoming overly angsty. Adam is healing from his injuries, and Cameron from his broken heart and the loss of what he thought was his family (though things weren’t picture perfect for a while). It’s the perfect setup for some mutual healing, with the constant background reminder that Cam and his son Finn won’t be staying as Cam has his sights set on a different life for them where no one from his time in New York can find him.
Of course you know the close proximity of Adam and Cam in the same home helps to ramp things up, but both men have hurdles to clear while they each find their way back to some semblance of normal in their lives. Cam is always the protective father, wanting to make sure that Finn never has to deal with the issue that caused them to leave New York. Finn is also very protective of his dad, and is definitely older and wiser than his years. To be honest, Finn was my favorite character ;-)
I liked that nothing was rushed, and that both men had time to heal without any cure-all being thrown into the mix to speed things up. The pace was just right for healing and for falling for each other. The bit of drama thrown in near the end was expected at some point, but pretty quickly handled so it felt like only a blip in the overall story.
It was great being able to see the characters from the previous books, and I’m already looking forward to Nick’s story. Always was a truly enjoyable read, and is getting 4.5 stars from me. This book is for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content.
Cameron and Finn had to start their lives over...secretly . They had to escape the storm Cam's ex brought about in their lives. Adam is trying to get his life back to as close as normal as possible. He'll never be a firefighter again due to horrific injuries..but what CAN he do that will fulfill his soul? Cameron and Finn need Adam..even though at first they are extremely wary. Too scared to put their hearts on the line again. Adam needs Cameron and Finn. He KNOWS this but will they be able to love someone with so many injuries and debilitating migraines? Throughout this book we get to meet, know and love Cameron and his young son Finn. We already know and love Adam. Finn is a very quiet, reserved and VERY protective young man . . Slowly Adam shows him what it's like to have another in his life, like his dad, who is loving and supportive. Cameron has been hurt terribly in ways he never thought possible. Adam opens up his heart to Cameron and together they become an amazing couple. Amazing duo. Just plain amazing. I loved visiting with some of the people from the other books connected in this series. There is more going on in this story that I won't divulge. It's more fun that the reader discover these for themselves. There are ups and downs, good times and bad and...ok you will get nothing more from me! Three more characters have now been added to my "family". Nick's story is next and I look forward to reading about his HEA.
The fourth of the Single Dads series, they do sort of flow from one book to the next so I do suggest reading the previous stories. We have met Adam before; he was the young firefighter that was hurt, and because of the injuries he sustained he is no longer able to fulfil that life long dream. Cam and his son Finn, are sorta kinda on the run. Mostly from the press, but also from the situation that Cam's ex-husband had put them in. Now the ex is in jail and the two go all the way back home to California. With the help of a friend, Cam and Finn score a place to stay, and will be Adam's roommates. The situation is not really ideal for either man, Adam still trying to deal with his problems, Cam trying to figure out his next step. Neither man was looking for anything more than maybe just friends, but the more time they spend together the more their feelings for each other grow. Will they let their individual issues keep them from being more than just friends?
Like the rest of the series, this was a nice easy read filled with a bit of drama, nothing too over the top but just enough to keep things interesting. Really excited that we get a bit of a lead in for the next story, woohoo. Cam and Adam were really sweet, and watching the two navigate their way to a relationship was really great. I give this 4 stars.
Having read this series over the course of twoish days, I find myself kind of disappointed. The strength of the first two books is that we are introduced to characters with children who suddenly find love. There is nothing crazy about their situations or really outrageous about what happens. Then we hit book 3 and now book 4 and there series has become non-stop trauma porn. In Always, Adam (introduced in an earlier book) suffer from chronic pain as a result of work (firefighter)-related injuries; Cameron is recovering from a bad, extremely public, breakup with a grifter of a husband. Trauma galore, right? Worst of all, the story doesn't really go anywhere after this. Despite getting along relatively well, Cameron's issues with trust and extraordinarily low self-esteem mess up any semblance of a relationship until so late into the book that I don't know why Adam would bother with him, frankly. They also really lack chemistry, which was a complaint I had in the third book in the series as well. Even when there were gestures toward growth, I never really cared enough for the characters to want to root for them. Overall, just a disappointing book.
I love this series so much. It's so full of the feels and this book is no different. Right off the bat this book hit me right in the heart and it breaks for Cam and Finn. Life as they know it is gone and it's survival mode. With the help of an old friend they end right where they need to be. Adam is a character that I've really liked. His life is has changed completely as well do to a work injury. Cam, Finn, and Adam are going to heal one another. That just warmed my heart watching those three finding their way to a new hope of a future. Adam in the scenes with the kids melted my heart. That man so deserves a family of his own though he thinks that it's no longer in the cards for him. Who would what to be saddled with all his recovery. Cam's whole world revolves around his son and to make sure he feels safe once again. He's gun shy at a new relationship after what his ex put him through. Coming to California is going to out to be a godsend. This book is full of hope that will touch your heart. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series.
I had high hopes for this but it never quite felt right for me. I didn’t necessarily buy the chemistry between Adam and Cam, even though I really wanted to.
The persistent threat of something happening the whole book despite no evidence of anything felt a little weird. I was disappointed that, when something finally did happen, it felt shoehorned into the last 6% of the book. I think the story could have been the same without some nefarious reason he needed to move.
There were a few errors in the ebook, and a few passages where the author repeated the same thing (or something contradictory) only a few lines apart. “I couldn’t say no” and then a few lines down “I could have said no,” for example. Since it is a paid ebook currently and not KU or free release, I would expect a bit more editing and proofreading, which rounded my 3 down to a 2.
With his future ex-husband behind bars, Cam needs to start over and find a place where he and his son Finn belong. With the help of an old friend, they find a place with Adam. Adam having his own set of hurdles to overcome finds himself falling for Cam but unsure of whether or not he is worthy of finding a forever love. Can the two put each other back together while finding their own HEA? or will the ghosts from their own pasts come back and haunt them? RJ Scott never disappoints and adds even more lovable men to her cast of characters. No mountain is ever to high and no past is ever to low - another fabulous read from RJ Scott.
While a sweet book, this one did not click for me and that has never happened with an RJ Scott book. She's usually one of my go-to authors. I liked the idea of Cam and Adam together but honestly, they didn't mesh out well in my head (I think this is a me problem, not the story problem). I liked that they were both flawed and had issues to work out separately and together. It's always great in a series when characters from the previous books are pulled in and I adore Leo, Eric, and Sean. While this one did not work for me I do look forward to the next book with Nick. An ARC was provided for an honest review.
I've been awaiting Adam's story since "the incident" where everything changed for him. RJ Scott did not disappoint with Adam and Cam's story! Two men going through very different struggles and trying to glimpse the light at the end of the tunnel. This is not an overly angsty read, but Ms Scott delivers the "feels". Getting brief shots of the previous characters is always a bonus in a series. Adam's family were terrific. If you haven't grabbed this series and started, what are you waiting for? ***RECOMMENDED***
My favorite from the series so far, Adam and Cameron are so cute together and I LOVED FINN SO MUCH! Such a sweet and sassy child, and him saying he wants to stay with Adam, Mia, Micah...broke my heart with the sweetness of it. A precious child that went through so much but is so strong taking care of his dad...Im weak for stories with children being strong for their parents (i might be projecting lol). Adam and Cameron's relationships was a slowburn with such intensity that i could feel the sparks between them!

This one hit me like no other ones in this series has. Mainly because I'm in the same position as Adam. Seeing your body deteriorate and not being able to do what many others take for granted is heartbreaking. Also, the pain of knowing others expect you to get better when you know you will never be truly well again. It's wonderful to see someone like me get a happy ending. It hit me deep.
---“Cam, you’re crying,” he said in such a gentle way that my chest hollowed, and he rubbed a thumb on my cheek wiping away tears, a soft rhythmic motion that made me want to cry all the more.
“I didn’t mean to,” was all I could think to say. “Tears just happen.”
He closed in, the puff of his breath on my lips, and I was lost in his green eyes. “Don’t stop them if you need them.”
Always (Single Dads Book 4)
*Two men broken by their choices and circumstance find each other. Cam and Adam find themselves starting over from a dark place neither could ever have imagined. This a sweet love story about finding redemption and support in an unexpected place. Cam and Finn’s story is so heartbreaking, and I was super excited to finally read Adam’s story after it played out through the previous books in the series, and it was worth the wait.
This is another great book in the Single Dads series by RJ Scott. As with the previous books, it embraces the themes of friendship, found family, second chances, adorable kids, a scrappy pup and of course fiercely protective fathers and the men who to love them.
I chose the quote above because to me it boils the story down to one aspect. It not a weakness to cry. Tears are the release that gives a person the strength to continue on in the face of pain.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 5 out of 5. reviewed via Kindle Unlimited
Another wonderful story in the Single Dads series by one of my favourite authors. Cam and Adam are both flawed characters, both with painful pasts, trust issues and in Adam’s case physical pain, so much pain. Cam is running from his painful past, trying to protect his son who is also hurting and they flee across the country and end up renting rooms in Adam’s house and so begins their love story. It was good to catch up with previous characters especially the adorable Mia. I just loved the way the toddler adores Adam and always smothers his “ouchies” in kisses❤️ I’m really looking forward to Nick’s story, he deserves a HEA as he is such a lovely guy.
