She’s tired of making cheese and ice cream on her family’s dairy farm, but when the cowboy hired to replace her turns out to be an ex-boyfriend, Clarissa suddenly isn’t so sure about leaving town… Will Spencer risk it all to convince Clarissa to stay and give him a second chance?
Spencer Rust has been at Hope Eternal Ranch for years. He loves Texas, the ranch, his boss, and his roommates. But he's ready to take the next step in his life now that he's healed from some past trauma.
To do that, he feels like he needs to leave Hope Eternal, so he starts talking to his friends at other ranches. Turns out there's a job at Cooper & Co Dairy Farm, and Spencer applies. After all, the girl he let get away from him is moving to San Antonio soon - if the rumors going through the small town mill are to be believed.
Clarissa Cooper is going to San Antonio, thank you very much. She's ready to take her culinary skills and put her degree to more use than making cheese spreads and ice cream on her family's dairy farm. But when Spencer shows up on the farm, everything shifts.
Will Clarissa give him a second chance? Or will she stick to her plans and leave him at Cooper & Co for a second time?
3-time USA Today bestselling author Elana Johnson writes adult contemporary beach romance. She is the author of over 130 books across two names, and there's nothing better than sun, sand, and swoon-worthy kisses! Unless it's a sweet-and-sexy cowboy - read those under her pen name of Liz Isaacson. Or an emotional, heartfelt women's fiction novel - read those under her pen name of Jessie Newton.
This was a second chance with a culinary twist. Ever since the first book in the Hope Eternal Ranch series, I’ve been intrigued by Spencer and wanted to know his story. And yay! I finally get my wish. What Clarissa and Spencer had, was cut short by some poorly chosen words long ago. Have they grown beyond what used to hurt, or will the same old patterns pull them apart again? I read the original short story this book grew out of and it solved the only complaint I had: the short story was too short. I wanted more time with Spencer and Clarissa, and this gave it to me. We got to watch them get to know one another and learn forgiveness for the past actions that broke them apart in the first place. Along with all the cameos from the Mulbury Boys and their new families, I loved learning about the Cooper family and Sweet Water Falls Farm. I can’t wait to read even more about them. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this story from the author.

Risky Cowboy is book 6 in the Hope Eternal Ranch series by Elana Johnson and part of the Mulbury Boys.
Spencer Rust and Clarissa Cooper were a couple until some badly chosen words broken them up. Spencer thinks it’s time to move on so he applies for a job at his former girlfriend’s family ranch knowing that she is leaving to become a chef in a big city. What happens when they met up again and have to work together before she leaves…sparks fly, righting the mistakes, romance, dealing with the past, family and maybe finding their HEA…
This book is also a crossover to a new series called Sweet Water Falls about Clarissa’s family. Can’t wait to read this new series!!
Nice ending to an entertaining, easy-to-read, second-chance romance series!
I recently finished the sixth and final novel in the Hope Eternal Ranch Romance series by Elana Johnson. I was surprised that there was a book six in this series, as all five men who formed the Mulbury Boys found their happily-ever-after in the previous books. Who could be the sixth, the "Risky Cowboy"? Having read the book, I now understand how the hero, Spencer, fits with the rest of the Mulbury Boys. Spencer is a longtime ranch hand at Hope Eternal Ranch. He has watched the group find their soulmates and is convinced his chance at love lies elsewhere. His story perfectly transitions into Elana's next series, Sweet Water Falls Farm.
Risky Cowboy is an entertaining and easy-to-read novel. The setting introduces a dairy farm down the road from Hope Eternal. Elana Johnson's description of the farm's operations paints a realistic picture of a working family-run dairy. Through the fantastic imagination of Elana Johnson, I was transported magically back in time to my neighbor's dairy farm and my early 4-H days! I remember sitting at the Johnson's farm table, drinking fresh milk from the cow, and eating our latest cooking session. Talk about Deja vu! What a trip down memory lane.
I enjoy Elana Johnson's knowledge of small-town living, and I especially could relate to her character, Clarissa's desire to search for her dreams far from her boring life. I am convinced that Elana Johnson created Clarrisa after reading my journals. I could almost read Clarissa's mind!
Elana Johnson writes sweet, clean romance novels with themes of faith, hope, and forgiveness. She writes from heart and soul, without being overly religious or preaching. Her stories are never dull, containing enough plot twists and real-life issues to keep you interested from the beginning to the end!
Pick up Risky Cowboy, a glass of sweet tea, and relax in the shade with Spenser, Clarrisa, and the gang from Hope Eternal Ranch!
Clarissa and Spencer's story is super sweet. I love the introduction to this new family by using the ranch hand from Hope Eternal, I loved seeing how they are all doing over there too, You do not have to read the other books to keep up. This can be a stand alone, but warning, you might just get invested in Clarissa's brothers like I did and want to read the next book. No cliff hangers though, and it is clean. This book was so good, I love how it ties in Spencer's past and his relationship with his dad in this book. We also see Clarissa's family dynamics and they could not be more opposite. Spencer and Clarissa dated years ago, and the attraction is still there. He is looking to settle down, she always wanted that too, but now her dream of becoming a chef is about to come true, what will she do?? READ it and see!!
Time to move on! Spencer feels like he needs to leave Hope Eternal Ranch and begin a new chapter in his life. He applies for a job at another local ranch that is owned by his former girlfriend’s family. Clarissa is scheduled to leave the family ranch/dairy operation and finally move on to what she has always wanted and studied for, a position as chef in a big city. They find out that the spark is still there and they want to learn from their earlier mistakes—but she is determined to get on with her plan to leave. You will love this sweet romance as Spencer has to deal with things from his past and Clarissa finds out that being a part of the family business may be better than things in the big city. This is a cross over story to the new Sweet Water Falls Farm Series and it promises to be great! Don’t miss this new read from Elana Johnson!
I first read this as a novella in a boxset. When I read it, I was a little disappointed. I knew it could be phenomenal if it was full length and had the same elements as the rest of the series, and I said as much. I was so stoked to find out that it was being made into a full length! And boy oh boy was this worth getting the full story on. It’s like the novella was a light and this novel is the sun! So incredible and truly does their story justice. I love the background info and the family aspect. I can’t wait to see more of this ranch in the next series!
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Spencer has been a background character in the series until now. He has been at Hope Eternal for over a decade. It's time for a change.
We learn that Spencer had a tough upbringing and we're introduced to the cowboys at the new ranch... and Spencer's ex-girlfriend.
Is there a bit of matchmaking going on? How is it that his new duties don't match the posted job description? :)
There's a bit of excitement, too. That shows us more of the characters of the main characters and of the cowboys that will be featured in the next series. I look forward to it.
LOVED this sweet cowboy romance. A second chance for Clarissa and Spencer--will it work out this time or no? The sparks are still there, but Clarissa wonders why God brings them together again at such an inconvenient time. It's all about the choices we make. It was also fun reading about the support and love the cowboys/cowgirls of Hope Eternal Ranch extended Spencer as well. Can't wait to read about Travis' story in the next book--Cross Cowboy. I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.
Spencer has worked with Ginger at Hope Eternal for years, he now sees all his friends finding their partners and realises that the whole he feels is because that's what he wants. Clarissa has taken, and passed really well, a cookery course. She feels life is passing her by, she's applying for jobs away from home. Spencer applies for a job at Clarissa's family ranch, hearing that she's moving away. They went out years previously but it hadn't gone anywhere. Can they get back together again? Is there a spark after all this time?
Rissa was tired of just coming up with recipes for her family dairy farm's little shop. She had big plans for a career as a big time chef in San Antonio. She felt like she was losing out on life. Spencer was ready to move on to another job. He liked his job but felt like there was another place he should be. Then he found out that the Cooper farm was hiring so he applied. Spencer and Clarissa had been an item before she went away to learn to be a chef, can they click again or will she run off again?
Elana Johnson knows how to speak to my heart. All the cowboys of Hope Eternal Ranch touched me and Spenser was special. Children should not fear their parents or be abandoned by them, no matter what their age. No surprise that Spenser was restless and unsettled. Then I try to imagine being Clarissa with her loving but loud and overpowering father and brothers. In addition to the romance, there are more than a few twists, turns and surprises in store for them both. The upcoming Sweet Water Ranch series holds lots of promise.
I have waited anxiously for Spence’s story and I was not disappointed!! The story has so many good points in it. The past has held onto to Spence and he has finally let go! Starting over doesn’t mean he’ll find what he’s looking for but maybe he’ll get a second chance at love! I love how this story plays out and you will too! I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book and this is my honest opinion!
I felt sorry for Spencer when he found out Clarissa was still at home. The breakup was rough on both of them. I felt sorry for Clarissa when she found out her dad had given Spencer a job – and that she had to train him. I liked it when they finally got over the past and started enjoying themselves. I hated how Spencer’s dad was such a bad guy. This is a really great story and has a lot of ups and down.
I had an Advance Readers Copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. In this novella, Elana Johnson brings a character from another series. This Cowboy switches jobs and moves to a farm 10 miles away to run a cheese and ice cream farm store in place of a former girlfriend. She was leaving to look for a culinary job in a restaurant. While away she realizes making cheese isn’t so bad, and she really loves the cowboy. I enjoyed reading this novella and would recommend it.
Risky Cowboy is the story of Spencer and Clarissa. He left Hope Eternal Ranch to find a chance of a new life and that he did. The job at Cooper & Co. Ranch brought Spencer face to face with Clarissa, his ex-girlfriend from 10 years ago. Spencer has been hired to take her place and he has fallen for her after just two days like they were last time. But, the same thing is happening this time as it did the last, Clarissa is leaving.
This is a second chance romance with Spencer and Clarissa who were a couple at one time until some angry words lead to their breakup. When Spencer finds out that she is leaving her family ranch he decides to apply for a job there as he had decided it was time for a change by leaving Hope Eternal Ranch. When he gets the job and Clarissa is still there they clear the air between them but will that lead to a reconnection for this sweet couple.
This is the first book of this series that I have read but what is nice is that you didn’t have to read the previous to enjoy and follow this story.
It is funny how life shows you what you need even when you are not looking in that direction. Spencer finally grows up and realizes what he wants out of life. Then there is Clarissa who is struggling to move on to glory and get out of her hum-drum life. Will both of them find what they are looking for? You will need to read to find out.
Another great book by one of my favorite authors. A great beginning to a new series. I loved Spencer and Clarissa's story. I've been waiting for Spencer to get his story in Hope Eternal ranch series and his book did not disappoint. A captivating second chance read that left me ready for the next book in the series.
Planning to move to San Antonio to fulfill her dream, Clarissa is surprised by the person her father has decided to replace her with at the family dairy. Spencer is the reason she is at the dairy in the first place. Remembering what he said to her to cause the break-up still plays in her mind. Can she get over what he said? Quick read! So is it spreadable cheese or Italian food?
Wow they both had attitudes and add her brothers, I think you could have had a hurricane. But as you read this novel your learn about their growing up years and then some. I am so so sad this is the last book in the series. Read it and go back and read again. You’ll be glad you did. 😊😊😊😊
Spencer has left Hope Eternal Ranch and is now at Cooper & Co. Clarissa Cooper still makes his heart beat and they start seeing each other. As her date for leaving and moving to the big city gets closer, all he can think about is missing her.
When his father shows up unexpectedly, Spencer is shocked, until the man steals from the Cooper's. Then it takes all his control not to throw punches.
He flees to Hope Eternal Ranch to find comfort in his longest and dearest friends. Will the Cooper's fire him after this and how can Clarissa ever love him now? ~
Another great book in this series of the Mulbury boys and Hope Eternal Ranch. This is about a young woman who went to the top school for chefs and came out on top of the class. This is about her life and what she wanted to do . This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Again I laughed and I cried. The story was so good and interesting. The characters were special and made me happy and sad all along the journey to the end. Happy endings are the best after struggling through the problems of life. Loved it!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this story by this author. I have read a number of her books now and most from this series. She brings out the strengths and weaknesses of her characters. Two families united with love and support, which provides the basic establishment of what Spencer and Clarissa are reaching for.
This was an very enjoyable read. However, I did not think it was as good as the earlier books in the series. The story did not have as many twists to the plot, and seemed to end just as the relationship of Spencer and Clarissa really was getting started. Still it was a good book and worth the read.
This was really good. Both Spencer and Clarissa are at a crossroads in their life and want change. Spencer has appeared in previous books in the series but we get to learn more about him and his second chance with Clarissa whom he dated years ago.
This is a page turner that will have you cheering for the growing relationship between Clarissa & Spencer. I could not put the book down! It's funny, sexy, heartwarming, moving & romantic. This series is one of my favorites. I I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Such a great romance story to read. So happy that Spence was able to find himself a woman to love and marry. He had a bunch of good friends at Hope Eternal Ranch.
I didn't want to to put this sweet, clean romance down! Clarissa and Spencer's story shows again, that no matter the trials in your life, there is a way past, around or through, to a better, brighter tomorrow. It may not be quick or easy, but there is a way!
