After 2 years the bookmobile finally loosened its covid restrictions and allowed patrons to come inside in browse. I’ve never even been in the bookmobile since we moved here! So I went, I browsed, and saw a whole bunch of CYO adventure books on the shelf. You betcha I rescued that unicorn. I also died several times at the hands of mythical beings, killed the unicorn, and had all sorts of weird stuff happen. I found all 24 endings 🤓

Starting off in the port of Bruges in 1510 you have come to say goodbye to a friend going to sea when you see a unicorn in a cage. This sets off a series of choices that may have you going to sea, staying on land, but always on an adventure and always looking for unicorns.
I read a couple different possible story arcs in this. One stayed at sea, some ended up in Scotland, one returned to Flanders, and all ended quite differently. I forgot how the CYOA books for middle grade are written in 2nd person voice. It is such an odd voice to read in, but definitely works best for CYOA. I preferred the more magical story lines I read the best, which was about half. Hand this to upper middle grade unicorn lovers.
Notes on content: No language issues or sexual content in the paths I read. One path ended up with you and a friend getting beaten up by mean drunks. It wasn't super bad, not really gory, but definitely felt like a situation that makes this more appropriate for upper middle grades.
