Pirate Caleb Graves may be an immortal, but he’s also a navigator and a man of science. And yet he can’t explain the erratic tides threatening Savannah. Nor the terrible dreams of sailing through a vicious, supernatural storm that he keeps having. But when fascinating, petite dynamo Diana Williams marches up to his ship and demands to speak to the captain, Caleb is caught up in a wave of unexpected fear…and an electric frisson of longing for this captivating woman.
Diana wouldn’t be a true psychic if she didn’t listen to her spirit guide. So when dream after dream compels her to visit specific coordinates in the Atlantic, she can’t ignore it. Now, she just needs a ship. Good thing she knows about a particular pirate ship that’s in tip-top shape. Complete with a surly, albeit hot, navigator who doesn’t immediately believe in her visions. But no matter how much Caleb objects, she’ll risk sending the entire crew—including herself—to the uncharted ocean.
But both their dreams could be the key to saving Savannah and may even be a clue about the fabled lost city of Atlantis. Or it could damn them all to an unforgiving, watery grave.
Wow! Goodreads just asked me for my city of birth and date of death... What if I could answer that? Would I live life differently if I knew for sure how much longer I had left?
Interesting thought.
That's generally how my writer brain works. I've been dreaming up stories since I was in elementary school. My first book was titled "The Wonders of Unicorn Creek" and my publisher was Dehesa elementary school.
Since then, I've published numerous short stories in anthologies and magazines. My story, "Immortal Beloved" was a finalist for a Bram Stoker award and was recently re-released in the "Dead Souls" anthology, along with a follow-up never-before-published story, "Subito Piano".
My debut novel, Night Walker, was released in 2012 and won a San Diego Book Award for Best Published Fantasy-SciFi-Horror. Night Walker also won the Romance Through the Ages in the Best Paranormal and Best First Book categories.
Since then, Night Thief and Night Demon have been released. The final book, Night Child will be released in March of 2014.
In the meantime,I have a new series beginning in July 2013 with Moonlight, Book 1 in the Moon Series.
I also post news and short stories on my Blog, so feel free to stop by for a read. http://Lisa-Kessler.com
Paranormal tales are my favorite and I tend toward the dark side. Join me? :)
Pirate’s Paradox by Lisa Kessler Book 6 of the Sentinels of Savannah series. Paranormal romance. Can be read as a stand-alone but better read as part of the series. Caleb believes in science and has many doctorates behind his name. But he can’t explain the magic behind the Holy Grail. Or why he’s now dreaming of the Lost City of Atlantis. Diana has lived with magic her whole life. Getting Caleb to suspend his stance on science will take some persuasive arguments.
The next exciting immortal pirate episode. This time they head out to sea in search of the magic of Atlantis. Poor Caleb. Science does not explain everything in this world. It was fun watching him move from all science to just accepting. His love of gadgets is adorable.
Pirate’s Paradox is a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful addition to the Sentinels of Savannah Series by Lisa Kessler. Science mates with mysticism in this story of Caleb and Diana. If you put aside the fact that the navigator of the ship is immortal and focus on the fact that Caleb Graves bases everything on science what you find is one sexy nerdy Pirate. Boy, do I love this guy! Diana Williams will too though it is just an attraction at first. She is a psychic who finds out she has been having some of the same dreams as another.
They have such a lovely relationship building in the story when surprising twists and turns take place. Such a compelling read that kept me glued to the book. Caleb and Diana are a favorite couple of mine now along with Pirate’s Paradox. This series just keeps getting better!
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’ve been reading this author for a while, and this series is one of my favorites by her, and I think this is probably my favorite in the series. In this latest, we see Caleb finally connect with his mate. I absolutely adored the chemistry between these two! The connection was immediate, and their courtship was honest, straightforward, and touching. I have started to really enjoy when a couple are open and honest with each other and don’t try to hide what they each want. Add to that, the writing was superb, the plot interesting, and I enjoyed every minute of the book. I especially enjoyed the interesting twists that came in this one about a couple of things that came out in this book (vague because spoilers!). I can’t wait to see where the author is going to go next! Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
**I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way. **
Pirate's Paradox by Lisa Kessler (Sentinels of Savannah # 6) This is the sixth book in the authors series and is Caleb Graves and Diana Williams story of rising tides, dreams, my favorite Pirate crew of the Sea Dog and Atlantis. Yes that Atlantis which has been sending dreams of returning a Orichalcum key have been causing Caleb many sleepless nights and spending a lot of money on QVC. But when Diana comes to Caleb asking for Drake she discovers they have been having the same type of dreams of high tide levels and coordinates of Tidal Wave.
Will the Sea Dog and the crew survive the fury of a whirlpool, ancient Atlantis beings and when they ask for a trade for the safety of Diana will Caleb offer his immortality because they rely on give and take to balance their world ? But there is also someone else interested in the crew of the Sea Dog who wants something they took and he wants it back. Til the next book after all we still have Pirates who need to find their forever after women.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for an e-ARC of this book! I loved the modern take on pirates. I thought it was fun that it was more focused on today's world with the addition of fantastical elements like magic and prophecy. I thought the romance was sweet and Caleb and Diana complemented each other nicely. I might have been missing pieces since I haven't read the other books in the series, but I would have loved more background on Diana and her ancestors as well as some more of Caleb's past. Other than that, it was a fun and quick story
I absolutely loved this pirate! Caleb is so fun, with his love of science and shopping.. A wonderful paranormal/fantasy romance full of steam, adventure and addictive characters!
I was taken on an adventure that was both thrilling and romantic. Caleb and Diana’s destiny to find each other was a whirlwind, pun intended. A crazy ride on the Sea Dog once again. This one had me loving the pirates yet again. Book gifted by
This is book 6 in the Sentinel's of Savannah, and while it could be read as a stand alone, I would read the previous books before this one as most of the characters are introduced previously. Along with a lot of back story is given previously. With that being said, in this installment we get Caleb Graves and Diana Williams's story. Caleb knows there is something happening in Savannah, he just doesn't know what it is. Nor can he explain the dreams he has been having about sailing into a storm. Diana is a psychic who has also been having dreams. Dreams that she knows she can't ignore, not anymore. She has the coordinates for a specific spot in the ocean, and she just needs the right ship to get her there. What neither realize is that their dreams may be what will help them save Savannah or it could bring them to their doom.
I am always sucked into the books in this series, and honestly this one was no different. Caleb is the navigator and I have always been curious about his story and how he got to where he is. And I was really hoping his story would give me more of his background. This is one of the reason's I knocked it down a star. I felt like that history of his was missing. Don't get me wrong, I really liked his character but I wanted to know more. Diana is a psychic, but again, I felt like there was something missing with her back story or history.
Other than that, I loved the story. These two connected really fast but it didn't seem forced. It almost seemed fated. Caleb is definitely awkward but in a cute way. Diana is strong but she isn't afraid to get help or ask for it if she needs to. Their chemistry was definitely there from the start but they also have this witty banter that I really liked. I also loved how their mutual dreams are woven into the story. It didn't feel weird or forced, it just felt like something that was meant. All in all, an enjoyable read that kept me engaged from the start and I didn't want it to end!
What a paradox indeed! This is the 6th book in Lisa Kessler's Sentinels of Savannah novel and probably one of my favorites so far to date. This can be read alone, but I do recommend this series as a lot of characters make appearances in the next books.
Caleb is a Ship Navigator, attempting to figure out how to make his way through the Atlantic to Atlantis, his only lead? The knowledge of a mysterious storm.. He's immortal, but has some very mortal quirks which I really loved. Buying all the gadgets on infomercials, and shockingly, his disbelief in magic! Something hilarious to me, given that he is an immortal ship navigator. He was a little grumpy and set in his ways which I just love to see topple.
Diana is a psychic who starts having dreams about a location foreign to her. And what does any good psychic do? She starts searching for a ship to get her where she feels she needs to be. She is a capable woman who works hard to bring Caleb around to what she is and how magic plays a role in life.
I loved the chemistry between these two. It came on fast but didn't feel forced. They tried to set it aside several times as they discovered how their dreams might be connected. I enjoyed the read and seeing how they came together to discover their mysteries. I will say would have loved a little more backstory from both Caleb and Diana. They both seemed to have interesting origins and I feel that could have been fleshed out a bit more. Still a worthwhile read and I can't wait for the next installment!
Loved Caleb and Diana. There was lots of adventure while they were out at sea. And plenty of steam too. I don't remember Caleb being this grumpy in the previous books but I still enjoyed it. Lots of fun!
Caleb is the crew's resident navigator and has noticed that the tides of the Atlantic are not behaving as they normally do. On top of that, he's also having vivid dreams of sailing through a terrible storm. And when he meets Diana the electricity between them is something he's never felt before.
Diana happens to be a psychic., and after a few vivid dreams herself she makes her way to the ship looking for the pirate she helped during the crews' last adventure. Her dreams are leading her to specific coordinates. Caleb isn't thrilled at the idea but the crew outvotes him in favor of helping Diana out.
When they take a moment to talk about her visions and his dreams they come to realize that both are connected to the lost city of Atlantis.
That's so much to the author, Entangled and NetGalley for this ARC to review.
I haven’t read the other books in the series, but I’m glad to say this book operates as a standalone, so you don’t have to read the other novels to figure out what’s going on in the present novel concerning the romance between Caleb and Diana. However, there is a sub-plot that doesn’t take up too much space that will carry over into the next book.
First, what drew me to the novel was the pirates. I enjoy a good pirate romance, and these pirates are in the modern-day trying to figure out what’s happening in the mythical Atlantis.
Caleb is the ship’s navigator. He’s put off love ever since he lost his first true love over two-hundred years ago. A man of science, he’d rather spend his days figuring out math formulas and passing the night shopping from the TV. Did I mention the pirates are immortal after drinking from the Holy Grail?
Lots of twists and turns Reviewed in Canada on February 3, 2022 Book 6 in the series. But it can be read as a stand-alone. This story has so much going for it. Suspense, mystery lots of twists and turns Lisa wrote a very well detailed story. The word building is strong and flows easily. Hero is Caleb. Heroine is Diana
Caleb is the ship’s navigator on a pirate ship And trying to find out why they can’t leave Atlantis It’s been happening round and round in Atlantis for two hundred years. He doesn’t believe in love. Caleb believes he meet his true love and he lost her . . He’s sworn off of women .
Diana keeps on having dreams for a while . She keeps on seeing a pirate . She doesn’t know why. But the dreams and urges are getting stronger. She finally acts on it she asks one of the pirates from a previous book to take her where she believes her dreams are building her
Yeah, the pirates are back! This time, Caleb meets Diana and does not believe in the importance of her dreams. She wants to go to a specific coordinate in the middle of the ocean and as a man of science, Caleb does not think her request has any merit.
The title of the book is pretty telling as this book was a paradox and Caleb, an immortal pirate who drank from the Holy Grail, does not think there is magic in the world!
Diana calls in a debt to get the crew to take the Sea Dog out and from there, the action is non-stop and the attraction between Diana and Caleb is not something they can fight or deny. The biggest question is how can they make a life when he is immortal and she has no desire to drink from the Holy Grail.??
Lots of action, twists, and secrets still to be revealed so looking forward to the next book!
Shiver me timbers. Caleb sounds so dreamy and Diana is the perfect mate for him. He has waited several lifetimes to meet someone like her. But a dangerous mission to get to Atlantis with a special key can put not only their lives but their relationship in peril. After all Atlantis is fathoms under the sea and at least Diana needs to breathe as she is not immortal. But things that cannot be explained are normal for her and Caleb is willing to risk his life for hers.
Who knew prirates lived in the modern-day world. This book had plenty of high sea, page turning adventures. I loved how Caleb and Diana interacted. They put their faith in each other and found happiness. On page 146 it stated 'Everything was in Devine order' how true for this storyline. I look forward to reading more on this crew and what Rutger Morton plans for them.
This book was wonderful and I can definitely picture Caleb saying, ‘if science can’t prove it, then it isn’t real.’ But watching him try and wrap his head around as Diana comes into his life is Magical! Can’t wait to see what’s in store next.
What a ride!!!! this book!!!! It kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved it...love all the pirates... The women they love...the adventures they have.. Can't wait for the next one... Loved it....buy it read it...love it!
Romance in this series are always a lot of fun to read and this one is no exception. I rooted for the characters and appreciated the well developed plot and characters Recommended. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
This is a fun, insta-love, paranormal romance. If you are looking for a quick and easy read with some fun paranormal elements that tie into some of the great mysteries of our world this is a fantastic option. Lisa Kessler's writing is quickly engaging, fast paced and full of humor and emotion. The romance is sweet and low angst and the insta-love element plays well into the paranormal and mystical elements of the story. This is the sixth book in the Sentinels of Savannah series and it is the first book I have read by Lisa Kessler. While being deep in the series, I still found this story to be easily digestible and I did not feel lost in the world. Kessler is clever by making each story standalone-able through quick explanations of the situations (by having the heroine be in a new readers shoes), as well as crafting paranormal elements in a world that resembles our own.
This paranormal mystery strongly revolves around the love story between Caleb-an immortal pirate, a navigator and a man of science and Diana-a psychic and spirit guide. They both find that they are interconnect through dreams that hint at a disruption in the Atlantic ocean which Caleb is picking up on unusual tides which specific coordinates. These coordinates makes Caleb and Diana think they are linked to the lost city of Atlantis.
This novel starts off with a bang, we are quickly introduced to our players and the dire situation that they find themselves in. Caleb might come off a little grouchy at first but this quickly fades as the instant attraction between him and Diana take hold. Caleb and Diana quickly learn to work together and respect each other. I love that Caleb is in a way a "virgin" type of hero. Caleb has not been with a woman since he was still human. So Caleb can be a bit awkward and scientific when it comes to his courtship of Diana. I love that Diana is strong and knows what she wants. I love that both Caleb and Diana feel such a strong pull to the other that they don't hesitate to put themselves at risk when it comes to saving the other. You dive hard into the insta-love and because of this we have a nice handful of sensual scenes between Caleb and Diana. I really love that these scenes are about trust, respect, consent and protection, and I love that Caleb is able to embrace all these modern ideals as he explores a physical and emotional relationship with someone else (which he has not experienced in hundreds of years). The true focus of this novel is on the romantic relationship between these two but Kessler also weaves in some mystical elements from our own past while giving it a gentle paranormal twist. I really enjoyed this it was fun to have some interesting elements to enforce the strong working relationship the pirate crew has as well as the working relationship that Caleb and Diana are able to establish.
Overall, a fun and lighthearted paranormal romance with a low angst, insta-love romance to carry along the story. This is the perfect quick read if you are looking for something that is pure entertainment that will keep you interested the entire ride.

Thank you to Entangled: Amara and NetGalley for an eARC, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
If you enjoy books that are an eclectic mix Of mythology, fantasy, magic, romance and more for your reading fix This has a great mix of genres and a story to enthral I didn't want to put it down till I'd read it all!
With pirates who've drunk from the Holy Grail Gaining eternal life that should not fail They're working with a secret Government department thirteen Seeking iconic and mythological items to keep from being seen.
This time it is the navigator and professor, Caleb Graves Who is striving to work out how to Savannah save The tides aren't behaving as they normally should He takes this as a sign of something coming that's not good.
When Miss Bianca, a psychic, comes to call She brings a warning for them all And a request to be taken far out to sea To a location her spirit guide tells her to be.
When these two meet their attraction is great But neither of them are really looking for a mate. Their dreams may be showing them both the key To saving Savannah - they need to see.
What an action packed read this proved to be With whirlpools, storms and perils at sea. Can these two work together to decipher the clues They need to do so quickly as there's much to lose.
This is another brilliant read in this series and so I highly recommend you give this and them all a go. I think this series is superb, it's one that I adore I never want to wait to read yet more!
For my complementary copy of this book, I say thank you, I throughly enjoyed reading it and this is my honest review.
Caleb Graves believes that nothing can not be solved without logic and numbers. Yes, he's an immortal pirate, hundreds of years old but still has a problem with "woo woo" things they deal with helping out Dept 13!
Diana Williams is Graphic Designer to trade but had inherited her Auntie's Botanica. She also has a bit of psychic talent. Her first meeting with the Sea Dog's navigator is a bit frosty, to say the least, but can they really overcome their complete opposite natures to find love?
Brilliant mix of Paranormal Romance, Atlantis (Yep, it makes an "appearance"), and possibly some alien interference. I loved that Caleb wasn't your average hero and his slight addiction to QVC makes so much more adorkable! Sleepless nights and funny dreams ensure these two have a dramatic start to their relationship!
Be aware that it would seem that our friendly pirates may have some contemporaries of theirs hanging around in the shadows about to cause trouble!
I received a copy of this book from the publishers, Entangled Publishing, via NetGalley and this is an honest review, left of my own volition.
Caleb was the navigator on the Sea Dog, he is also a science and math professor. He has been alive for over two hundred years after drinking from the Holy Grail. Diana, a psychic, is just starting her advertising business and her aunt left her her Botanica Shop. Diana has been having strange dreams about water and numbers that she figures out is coordinates in the Atlantic. She needs a ship and calls in a favor from one of the Sea Dog crewmen. Whatever drew them out there, wants them both. What will Caleb have to give to protect Diana?
Great story. Pirates and lost cities. A man who believes if it’s not science then it’s not real and a woman who listens to the dead. You can almost imagine you are there with them.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
Caleb Graves has sailed the seas as a pirate navigator for over two hundred years, but the unpredictable tides that have been hitting Savannah lately have him stumped. He has spent his very long life learning everything he can, but that might not be enough.
Diana Williams as Madam Bianca, psychic , knows all about the "woo woo" in the world and has helped one of the pirates before. This time, she needs help with a dream.
This is an action packed paranormal romance. An adventure under the waves is coming for our characters. Even though our hero is immortal he has a strictly scientific mind that doesn't accept magic easily.
This is part of a magical series that is best read in order, but each book can be read alone.
Modern pirates are taking the Sea Dog out to the lost city of Atlantis. Caleb has his immortality and captains the ship that will take them while Diana is the psychic who is guiding them. I love the modern twist to this fantasy/pirate romance and the quirks it offers. There's danger, suspense, action that tie this all together. While I read this as a standalone I would say it probably should be read in order to give a fuller effect of other relationships within the crew.
I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. This does not affect my review in any manner and my opinions are solely my own.
While this wasn't my favorite Sentinels of Savannah book, I did still enjoy this! However, I don't like insta-love and much prefer a slow burn, and this was definitely not it. Caleb and Diana went from being strangers to making love and declaring their undying love for each other in a span of 2 weeks, and I just didn't buy it. They definitely had chemistry, but I preferred the romance in the other books in the series. I loved both Caleb and Diana though. I also loved the aspect of science vs magic.
This is the second book I've read in this series and I really liked it. I'm loving the immortal pirates and their escapades. Caleb and Diana are opposites. He believes in science, she believes in visions and magic. Some how puting these two together works. While reading this one, I'm unsure how I feel about a certain character. They don't seem very trust worthy. I guess time will tell. *Reviewed for Net Galley.*
Book 6 in the Sentinels of Savannah, Pirate's Paradox is a great next addition in the series. Caleb and Diana are engaging characters and the story is entertaining full of magic, mayhem, and romance. I look forward to reading what this author brings out next.
Pirate's Paradox is one of my favorite books in this series. Caleb and Diana have such great chemistry and I was fully invested in their story. Kessler has built such a fascinating world and I hope we get to explore more of it past this series. Without giving too much away, Caleb and Diana are having strange dreams that are pulling them to certain coordinates in the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way, the other pirates and some of their partners show Diana the "ropes" of the pirate life and Caleb is reminded that there's more to life than research and late night infomercial shopping. Through their journey they each have to let go of things in their past if they are going to be able to make their relationship work and sacrifices will have to be made if they're going to survive.
