The Children of Blood, vampires more powerful than any I’ve faced before, have come for me and my friends.
We haven’t even been given a break since the last war! Barely a week has gone by since we defeated the last big baddie, and now the King of Blood and his crazy brothers want revenge for us killing the beasts he sent at us in the first place. Well, what else is new? This is Hope City. Home of magic, monsters and the apocalypse.
They say that the Blood never forgets. But neither do I.
My name is Kat Drummond, the Last Light of Hope City, and I will protect my home.
Children of Blood is the tense, thrilling 13th installment in the urban fantasy Kat Drummond Series. The story is a direct continuation of both book 12, Cursed Earth, and Blood Hunter: A Katverse Novel, and should be read after both.
Nicholas Woode-Smith is an urban fantasy author known for the Kat Drummond series.
Kat Drummond is an urban fantasy about a university student who slays monsters to pay the bills. Set in a world where magic has infested modern day society, it brings the action-packed storytelling and snarky characters that Warpmancer fans love.
Nicholas currently resides in Cape Town, South Africa, where he has a degree in economic history and philosophy. When he isn't writing, he can most often be found playing PC games, Warhammer 40k or hiking.
I actually cried in this book, I'll miss this series once it's over!
I got to see Guy more and see Brett's past a little bit. And I had the chance to understand Kat better, and to just fall in love with each and every one of them once again.
From a meh, decent series, these books got to be on my favorites list. And wow, this author manages to surprise me again and again and yay!
Ohhh, and, spoiler alert, we get to see VAMPS this time!
Read books in order. Kat with her army at her side-Brett, Guy, Treth-in spirit- Cindy, Ismail, June. Are fighting a rogue bunch of vampires who want to take over and rule the City. So is it really true that Immortals are not able to be killed? Will Kat survive a stab with a cursed blade? I didn’t think this book of adventures could keep topping the last ones , however once again I am proven incorrect. A word of advice clear your schedule make sure your e-reader is fully charged up, right from the start to an ending- you will not see coming. The ending I might not have wanted but could see was for the... sorry no spoilers. This is a must read! I read the ARC this is my honest view of the adventure.
Absolutely loved this book. Admittedly has a slightly slow start but then hooks you in and doesn't wanna be put down! I love this series but definitely have tissues ready for this one
"If people could be monsters, perhaps monsters could be people?" A line from the book that I thought was very important.
This book was absolutely amazing.A lot of it was unexpected, which I love! I also loved the powerful women in this book. In this whole series actually!
I really enjoyed Guy's POVs and hope to see more in future books in this series. If it doesn't happen,I'll just reread Blood Hunter. :) I really enjoyed seeing the world through his eyes.I did still miss Kat though!so the switching between their POVs was perfect for me.
I also did cry many times while reading this book. Some of the times were for Brett and the others were for the absolutely beautiful and touching lines that this author wrote.Might want to have some tissues with you while reading this one.
I know I said this before, well I’m going to say it again. Wow, and wow again. I didn’t think that this authors books could get any better but they do every time. This ones a little cracker, i was engrossed right from the start to an ending I didn’t see coming. The ending I might add that almost reduced me to tears. (I did say almost, I am a grown man after all). If you liked the other Kat books you’ll love this one. Highly recommended must read.
You know a series is a goodie when after every book, you say that it was the best in the series. What makes this book stand out to me is the contrasting POVs between the two characters - I have sometimes found this a slightly distracting writing style but this author used it incredibly.
To think that a year ago I started this series and now I am invested in the characters. The author has flawlessly developed these characters to the point that you forget it's fiction. They are raw, they are strong and they are so ridiculously bad ass.
Another amazing book in the Katverse!! This one started off slowly again but there was so much anticipation while you were reading!! You just knew what was going to happen in the beginning. And from there the action was amazing. This was another emotional ride, esp for Brett. Guy makes a bigger debut (aside from Blood Hunter of course) and he must act a leader even though he is uncomfortable. All the crusaders are pushed to their limits and you wonder how they will ever survive. And I must say I did not see this alliance coming!! You will not want to put this book down!
I have loved this entire series so far, but this book kept me enthralled from the beginning to the exclusion of everything else. The vampires (children of Blood) have come to town looking for revenge. They particularly want Kat and Guy, as they are responsible for the deaths of their brothers. The savage attacks on the city are putting the general population against the Crusaders, but it doesn't stop the Crusaders from trying to protect them. This is a fight to the death.
It shouldn’t be possible to surpass each previous book in a series so consistently, and yet here is proof again. This story joins multiple parts of the Katverse nicely together and provides closure for some threads (not loose by any means), while simultaneously preparing for even bigger events to come. At some point, I fear we’ll reach a Big Bang-like event - the tension building is simply so great!
As recommended as the previous volumes, and be sure to read them too!
Another epic chapter in the life of Kat and her Crusaders
This series just keeps getting better and better. I really adore the way the main characters are being seasoned by the events around them and developing into ever more complex characters. As is usually the case with the books in the series, this book could be read alone, but why would you ever want to do that and deny yourself the joy of reading the rest of the series?
The latest addition to the Kat Drummond series, Children of Blood, has Kat and crew going up against the Izingane Zegazi and Blood King, unfortunately without much support from the people of Hope City. Without giving away too much, it was good for other characters to get a chance to step forward and also good to see the Crusaders aligning themselves, the enemy of my enemy is my friend style, with a group with which they'd normally be at odds and both realizing there is more than just one side to everyone. We're leading into the big showdown and I'm looking forward to whatever book(s) are left in the series.
Kat and the Crusaders know they are coming. The Izingane Zegazi, Children of Blood, a group of vampires are coming after Guy and the Last Light. While Hope City's residents are getting stirred up by the government against them, the Crusaders are still doing their jobs. An incredible group of characters, led by Kat who continues to develop.
They say the night is darkest just before the dawn.
The ending ( no spoilers here ) is absolutely frickin marvelous! In this story we learn more of the evolution of Guy from the book Blood Hunter, until the present. We learn more about Brett's evolution and in some cases de-evolution since the corps. All leading up to the invasion that we've been watching and waiting (at least 4 books) for, the Izingane Zegazi to roll into town. Boy did they, the like to say "Blood Remembers" maybe they should have shown a little prudence and forgot.
Children of Blood is book 13 in the Katverse n it's one crazy ride! We learn so much about the backstory of several Crusaders and what has forged them in the fire as true warriors.
I can't say how enough deeply developed the characters are and how intense their journeys have been.
Together they have formed family, purpose, love and determination. And the blood may never forget but neither do the Crusaders.
Enemies rise, alliances crumble, and the enemies of their enemies are now friends in arms. But the violence unleashed by Children of the Blood bleeds endless terror and shows no bounds in the relentless pursuit of The Last Light. But one thing is for sure Kat and her forged in fire warriors will never let hope burn out inside the walls of Hope City.
The action is full metal jacket from start to finish so hold on tight for one jaw dropping turn to the next! Take a leap into the void of the Katverse you won't regret it and you won't look back....
Kat and her friends have been expecting the Izingane Zegazi vampires for a while but when they arrive, they trigger a series of conflicts that turn the very people that the Crusaders protect against them. The Izingane Zegazi literally hold all of Hope City hostage until Kat and Guy are turned over to them. The Crusaders are now under attack by vampires and citizens of Hope City. Towards the end, the situation is extremely grim for the Crusaders and their allies. In order for Kat to win this latest battle, she has to fully embrace the power that she has been slowly developing.
This is another captivating Kat Drummond installment. There is plenty of action, intrigue and further development of the main supporting characters such as Guy and Brett.
"“Love requires courage, Kat. And sacrifice. And it can cause pain. You can lose it and you will fear its loss. But that is because it is what matters.”"
This book is about one war seen through two very different people. Both Kat and Guy play major roles in an adventure with ever decreasing odds for our heroes. It is intriguing, full of action, great characters and takes you on a roller coaster ride where you often can’t see the next drop, rise and turn.
This whole series is excellent, and both serious intermingles with humour.
I have received this book for free from the author and decided to review it.
There isn’t anything that can get better in this set and it just does! KAT and her followers are great as they fight together and their characters show the building personalities that they have and are getting! This story alway leaves you wondering what can possibly happen next! But there is always something that grabs you and pulls you in! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
