There was a time when I used to be obsessed with this series. But it's long gone. Life has changed so much. Trying to hold on to that life by reading the final books from the series. Hope life treats me better soon!

Liked this a lot! I can’t wait to go back and read the other ones- the main character’s ‘voice’ is super cute and the right amount of sassy. Very situational comedy but also your classic coming of age and buddy story with a slight bit of rom com thrown in.

As a seventeen year old girl, it is my responsibility to rate and review these books for the younger generations. And lowkey this book helped me get out of my fall reading slump sooooo :)

Not gonna lie, this was not the greatest Dork Diaries book.

The plot was pretty mediocre. As I say with the Barbie movies, THE OLD ONES ARE BETTER.

My favorite character in this particular book was Nikki’s little sister, Brianna, because she came through at the end of the book. I stan Chloe and Zoey too because they are such good friends and put up with Nikki (will never understand how they do it)

I love and hate Mackenzie at the same time but she kind of slayed in this book. She nailed the toxic mean girl role once again. One thing I hate about these books is that Nikki is constantly complaining about how bratty and privileged Mackenzie is. BUT NIKKI IS TOO! Like, at least Mackenzie acknowledges how lucky she is as an individual. I feel like Nikki is definitely one of those kids who says they’re are starving children in Africa when you complain about a math test or something.

QUESTIONNNN! Why is André a character? Like babes, please leave NICOLE alone. I am the biggest Brandon and Nikki shipper of all time!!

Despite Nikki being my least favorite protagonist of all time (Sophie from KOTLC finally gets a break haha) I am rooting for Branikki! I want them to freaking proclaim their love at this point. Rachel Reneé Russell took the slow burn trope and is making it feel like a Tuesday morning English class.

My standards were not high but this actually proved to be the most boring Dork Diaries book I have ever read. I'm sorry, I'm such an avid follower of this serues it feels illegal to rate it this low. But this book? This book was not it.

The world is so against Nikki help-
when I saw this book at my local barnes and noble I freaked out because when I was little EVERYONE in 2nd & 3rd grade was reading this series and I just needed to know what was going on.
Now im older and I realize that nikki is such a complainer and if she wanted she could get with brandon she could.
Everything was going on in this book like her dress (she was over reacting by the way) then all the stuff with mackenzie. At this point im sort of siding with her.
But this IS a book designed for little kids.
[ One day, Can we please get a YA spin off. Preferably one where Mackenzie curses Nikki out or the other way around]

I haven’t read a dork diaries book in a while and it was really nice to get back into them and just read a fun, easy book. It only took me almost an hour from start to finish and it was cute. Kind of predictable, but cute. I got a lot of good laughs from it. I recommend for 8-12 years.

Yes, I am 18, and yes, I did read this book. Sue me. I already read 14 of them, so I was too deep into the series to stop.

I enjoyed this quick, fun read, and it was nice to come back to this series and the characters that I have read so much about. My one major complaint about this series is the fact that there are now 15 whole books and Brandon and Nikki are not officially together yet. I love a good slow burn, but this is taking forever.

જ*⁀➷Summary

Tale from a Not-So-Posh Paris Adventure follows the story of Nikki Maxwell and her band mates, who get an all-expenses paid trip to Paris! Nikki is over the moon with joy, and so are her band mates. But when her snake of a frenemy, Mackenzie Hollister, arrives on the trip with them, Nikki faces many obstacles that may ruin summer vacation.

જ*⁀➷Theme
When one door closes, another one opens.
There's no place like home.
Friendship overcomes obstacles.

જ*⁀➷Characters

Nikki

Nikki is the same perfect sweet, relatable, and clumsy main character as she's always been. I read all the previous book when I was younger than her, and it was very refreshing to read about her again from an older point of view. She's still a talented, artistic over thinker and we love her for that.🩷

Zoey

Zoey is the smart, quick thinker friend that Nikki's friend group desperately needs. And, just to point out, this is the first book something was actually done to Zoey's hair! She got braids!! And they look beautiful. Zoey's the most amazing and reasonable best friend in a children's book and I love her to death 🫶🏼

Chloe

Chloe was so painfully dense. She's not the first to catch on to new plans/ideas, and she's purely in the book for comedic relief and I'm here for it.

Brandon

This dude makes me SO MAD. He was gone for 80% of the book because he was butt hurt that he wasn't Nikki's only guy friend. If you like her so much, why don't you just ask her out already? It's been a full year since y'all met anyway. And you already basically claim her as your own. I guess even typical sweethearts like Brandon have troubles with commitment.🙄

Mackenzie

She was very... sweet? I know she's supposed to be the main antagonist, and in past books, she was very venomous, but maybe it has something to do with them being 'frenemies' now instead of 'enemies.' And that was my main problem in the book. Since Mackenzie and Nikki kind of like each other now... there was no real conflict. More on that later.

Andre

BRO... I totally forgot this dude even existed! I don't even know what past book he's from or what even happened between him and Brandon, but all I know is that there was tension and I'm totally here for it.😈

Brianna

She will always and forever be my favorite character. She's a funny, sassy mastermind, and honestly, she reminds me of myself.🥰

જ*⁀➷Plot
The story was a lot slower than the past books, and the conflict overall fell short. I guess the main conflict was but It was pretty obvious early on where it was. And that's interesting to me, because in the past, I always remember there being tension and me genuinely rooting for the characters, but there was nothing really to root for to be honest. Mackenzie was nice, the conflict wasn't conflicting, and this book was really just about Nikki enjoying and learning about Paris.

જ*⁀➷Recommendation
I recommend you read this book if you like Middle Grade book series and Paris.

જ*⁀➷Rating

Characters: 4/5⭐

Plot: 2/5⭐

Ending: 5/5⭐

Overall: 3.5/5🌟 (Rounded up)

The last time I read a dork diaries was 3 years ago,and (i thought) i had finished the series , and i used to be O.B.S.E.S.S.E.D . So when i saw this i immediately got it and started reading it . It took about an hour and a half to read so it was a quick one. It felt so good to jump back into Nikki's world and see her live her dream! Ngl Nikki has always been annoying but this one ? She was sooo dramatic about her dress , like, girl this has happened like 100 times get over it and deal with it like a mature person! Also,Nikki could have gotten with Brandon MANY books before if she actually tried cause Brandon is totally into her .BUT NO! She wants to go around in the same circle as always. This is defo a book for younger people would reccomend for people at the age of 7-11.

Forgive me Lord for I have sinned by reading (and enjoying) this book as an 18-year-old college student, but I cannot promise you that I will not again indulge in the nefarious act that is reading Dork Diaries because I probably will (once the next book in the series comes out #excitedaf!). This is me repenting 🙏🙏🙏

The fifteenth installment in the Dork Diaries series, Tales from a Not-So-Posh Paris Adventure, is about middle schooler Nikki Maxwell and her band, who are on their way to Paris. Unfortunately, Nikki and her friends run into roadblocks along the way, and Nikki’s French skills may not be up to par. It’s up to her to get them to their destination on time.

This powerhouse mother-daughter team behind the Dork Diaries series knows how to create relatable characters. The books are written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Renee Russell and illustrated by her daughter, Nikki Russell. Tales from a Not-So-Posh Paris Adventure was such a fun story, and while I was reading it, I was on the edge of my seat wondering if the music guy would call them back and if Mackenzie and Nikki would finally become friends. The style of the illustrations of Paris was different than the illustrations for the girls and were breathtaking. Kids can relate to the characters' situations, making these books a great read for tweens and teens. The Dork Diaries have been enduringly popular for over a decade and positively impact young readers.

My Reading Dates: 30 Dec
Genre: Adventure?, Children, Fiction
Pages: 368
Pace: medium to fast
POV: singular - first person - past tense

My Thoughts
I had to wait 3 FREAKING YEARS for this book to be pubished. It was set to be released in October 2020, and we only got this in 2023

Because of this dramatic gap, I had completey fallen out of reading any Dork Diaries books. Coming back to this series, I found this book... chaotic? Everything happens in randam orders, a million bad things come down upon our protagonist every two pages, and then everything gets cleared up surprisingly easily in the end. Really, Renée? Anyways, I adjusted to the writing style pretty quickly, so it didn't bothered me that much as soon as I i got into it.

My favourite part of this book was probably when Brandon and André are literally fighting over Nikki... What can I say? I am a hopeless. romantic at heart. I have to saythat Brandon needs to start pulling his game up and ask Nikki out on a proper date. Or Nikki ask him. I really don't mind which.

I know that I can't really complain about this, but the whole book felt a bit unredistic to me. I am not going. to go into specifics, but everything feels awfully fantasy-like.

Can we just talk about how Nikki treats her younger sister? I overlooked this when I was younger, but now it is kinda bothering me. I understand her frustration. but I feel like she should talk things through with her instead of screaming at her when she does something she is not meant to do. Maybe I am exaggerating, but Nikki seems like a role model to Brianna, and Nikki just continuously dismisses that. She literally put Brianna's teddy bear and Princess Sugar plum bag that was gifted to her into a bin at the airport??? On a sidenote though, didn't Brianna go to see Princess Sugar plum saves Unicom Island, Part 11 in one of the previous books?? I could've sworn that Brianna mentioned that before. Also, where the hell do the parents go everyday single day? But are suddenly available whenever Nikki needs them?

Can we also go through the fact that Chloe and Zoey are basically the same person copied and pasted? And they seem to do so much behind Nikki's back. Sure, they are good things, but I feel like Nikki is rarely truely open and honest with them, ya know?

Mackenzie Hollister just seems like a very bitter and lonely sorta person. I have always hated her, but now I am just annoyed at Nikki for not standing up to her more. Mackenzie just doesn't seem that bad, at least in this book anyways.

Is it just me, or was this book a lot shorter and less plot heavy? I could've sworn thata higher number of things have happened in previos books. Or maybe it is just my newly developed self-awareness.

This lady look three years to release a book I spent less than 2hrs on. Was the wait worth it? Not really.

The cover changed from the original idea, and it was not for the better. I liked the golden lettering, but now the title of the book is in plain black text. When I went to a bookshop, I saw that all the books had changed the book title (ie. 'I Love Paris', not the 'Dork Diaries') to plain black text. Why???

Anyways, I liked this book, but I see that I have mostly outgrown this series sadly.

2.59 stars really😅. I’ve been reading these books since I was in 2nd or 3rd grade and I loved them so much. I’m 18 now and about to graduate high school and I still live them. I just feel like this book didn’t really hit like the other ones did. Not bc I’m 18 years old and enjoy middle grade books either. But because there was just. A LOT. Of just waiting and tweenage drama and they didn’t even get to Paris until maybe 50/60% through the book. And then after that there was a lot of he said that and she said this and so on. But after about 60/70% through it’s like she just ran out of things to say. HOWEVER, being a history major, I DID really appreciate the historical monuments and facts that she included in the book, like the catacombs. That’s probably my favorite part of the whole book.

I have been reading it since I was 13 and I'm 21 now. Since I all read all the previous ones I was eager to read this one , for childhood's sake but I was really disappointed. The writing felt kinda off for a children's book. I mean previously such language was not used such as describing Nikki's mother as embarrassing and asking the readers if we can believe it. Idk why reading this felt like the author has to write something just for the sake of it and not to come up with an actual story. A lot of the things I loved abt this series is gone. And the use of language and the way it's flowing is off putting. That said , i will probably read the next one in the series and continue to be disappointed.
December 18, 2023
I decided to read this book because I used to love this book series when I was younger- and I was kind of disappointed. It was basically the same plot line as the others in the series. Nikki gets the chance to go to Paris with her band to get more publicity. She complains that her life is a bucket of puke which I can’t see how she thinks that because she is literally IN PARIS!!! She complains once again that Mackenzie is running her life, does nothing about it, worries that her crush who obviously does have a crush on her doesn’t like her, leaves. It kind of seems that the storyline is running out. I think it could be extended if Nikki and Brandon just. Got. Together. Already.
