Falling in love can be a nightmare...

Piper's always been aware of Levi. He's the kind of man who it's impossible to ignore. With his broad, muscular frame and gunmetal grey gaze he makes a statement without saying a word. But it's not until her psyche brushes his in an unguarded moment that they both realise: they are anchors.

It's a shock. Neither Piper nor Levi are used to needing anyone, the crackling attraction between them is making both their demons crazy and to make matters worse, Piper's narcissistic stepsister is Levi's ex–and she's not ok with the situation. The whole thing is like a bad dream–and Piper knows all about them since she's a Nightmare, a demon with the ability to trap people in their worse memories forever.

Then an old terror appears from Levi's past–a serial killer everyone had believed was dead. They are cold, ruthless and will stop at nothing to achieve their twisted ends. Time is running out–will Piper, used to putting everyone else first, learn to fight for what–and who– she wants?

As Suzanne Wright's self-proclaimed #1 Fan Bitch, I've gone on ad nauseam in many a review about how much I unobjectively love her, her formula, and her books in general.

I've read all but one of her 30+ books and she is at the top of my very short auto-buy list. In fact, this was my temporary "review" when I saw that I had somehow missed the release date for this despite my typically dedicated stalking:

"How the F did I miss this release date???? Who AM I even?

description
"

And this is me sitting with this three star experience right now:

description

I adore this series and have 4+ starred all seven books preceding this one. So I was super surprised when I found myself struggling to get into this when 37% deep.

For some reason, I just didn't feel all that connected to Levi and Piper. Especially Levi. I'm not sure if it was the step-sister's-former-ex angle (even though I've overcome this in numerous books in the past), the fact that there were numerous mentions of him having female friends (Ella, Mia, Paloma, etc.), or that he never tried to approach Piper in the six years since his "fling" with her step-sister ended...but I just didn't feel like she was all that special to him.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that men can't have female friends. I'm just saying that Levi was presented as this guy who supposedly couldn't connect with people outside of the other Sentinels; and yet, in previous books, he was always calling his friend Ella whenever they needed witchy advice and there was mention in this book of another female friend kicking the step-sister-ex's ass at a bar when she got in Levi's face.

I guess what I'm saying is that this somehow all resulted in my just not getting that OTT possessive "MINE" vibe that I love about the alphas in Wright's books.

description

That said, I still did enjoy this. I always love spending time with Knox and the crew and I enjoyed all those moments here. I also have a deep appreciation for Wright's understanding of the human psyche and its motivations.

So while this may not have been a favorite, I still appreciated this for what it was. And who knows, maybe I will love it more upon a later re-read much like Carnal Secrets, which I didn't initially adore but later upgraded.

Anyway, it's all good. Looking forward to Larkin and Teague's book!!

Well, it was fine.

Piper, I have to say though, is maybe one of the most reasonable heroines I've ever read about. She really lives life stress-free with how she deals with her problems. Like, if she didn't have like a psychopath hunting her down, she'd be living such a normal life.

Levi was okay for a hero. Possessive but didn't want to catch feelings. What a conundrum.

All in all, this book was definitely better than book 7. But I don't know why I can't enjoy this book more.

I have read, and will continue to read, a lot of books by this author. Sure she has a little bit of a formula, but I LIKE that formula! It’s like eating chocolate ice cream. Who turns down chocolate ice cream? But at the same time, you’re probably not going to give a rave review of every place that has chocolate ice cream. Happily, I have given rave reviews to this author before, and so I always come back for more - because even if this particular book maybe wasn’t the most memorable, I still enjoyed it anyways. Hopefully Larkin’s book is next.

Oh dear. I had HUGE hopes for Levi, and Piper is not that hope. She's dull, boring, dull, bland ... you get my drift. Piper is the antithesis of what Levi needed and deserved, as well as the strong, sassy heroines this author usually aces.

I've read and reread the earlier books in the series but IDK, it seems as though no couple will ever match up to Harper and Knox.

I have to say I was a little uncertain about reading this one as dating a sibling/step siblings ex is a bit of an ick for me. However, after reading and loving over 32 books of Suzanne's I decided to trust her process and I am so glad that I did.

This book was amazing in a totally different way than the others in the series, there was a lot more internal angst in this book than in previous ones but it fit perfectly for these characters. I personally think that Suzanne's ability to create such strong, unashamedly flawed characters is her greatest gift. The secondary characters are more than props used to add a line here and there, they are just as pivotal to the story as the main ones.

As for the main characters I love Piper, she is strong but has no problem accepting protection when she needs it, and she fit in perfectly with the rest of the crew. Levi was the perfect blend of possessive but not controlling and whilst they both needed to work through a few things I think that it made their relationship feel more natural and nuanced.

I have to say that I did NOT see the bad guy coming, but looking back there were a few small hints along the way so it didn't feel like it came totally out of the blue either. I am so looking forward to Larkin's story, I think that she is going to be such an interesting character.

**I was given this ARC for an honest opinion by NetGalley, thank you so much NetGalley and Little, Brown Book Group UK for the free read it was amazing.

I’ve been wanting and waiting to read Levi’s book for so long now and it didn’t disappoint.

This book was an absolute delight to read. Solid plot, great characters with maturity, fantastic dialogues and amazing writing style.
I loved the dangerous, brutal demonic world. And their gang of demons are an absolute blast. Love love the friendship in the series.

Harper was such a lovely character. Gutsy, badass but a softie, lovable and naughty. She was both opposite of Levi and a match for him. I initially thought it would bother me to no end that Levi used to date Harper’s stepsister non exclusively many years back. But it was done tactfully. And I loved that Levi never once gave up on Harper and pursued her relentlessly and unapologetically. Their dynamics was of equal. And I also appreciate that, they first became friends before cultivating more intimate relationship.
I enjoyed the mystery aspect and couldn’t guess the killer accurately.

Kloe, Devon, harper and Larkin as usual was a joy to read. I can’t wait for more books in this series.

Recommended.

Meh. A boring disappointment.

I’m writing this at only 43% because I’m so damn bored I don’t really wanna continue.
Loved Harper and Knox , they are what really got me into Ms.Wright’s writing and why I’m here now. Tanner and Devon weren’t quite as much fun as I hoped, especially since Devon seemed stubborn just for the sake or being stubborn at times. Khloe and Keenan were fun for me and I really enjoyed getting to see another side to Khloe. It was great to get to see there was more to Khloe than we normally got to see. Loved that! But Raini ? Hated. No ,Loathed her book. Raini was secretive and distant, and she just didn’t feel a tenth as likable as she had in all the other books. No real/good reason was given either for what we saw from her to explain it either. And Maddox ? Maddox just felt like a cheap knock off version of Knox. It all felt forced.
Kinda like here. I’m not saying this is worse but at least I was curious and wanted to see what happened next to keep going with R&M. Here ?
I honestly don’t care.
Piper . Why ? Why this boring bland little girl for Levi? Personally, I always though Levi ( a big fan fave) was going to end up with an incantor ( did I get that right ? (Spellcheck isn’t liking it) or a magic user because he always seemed to know someone and seemed so close to that. Someone as interesting and complex as him. Not some wet behind the ears lil girl ,who has nothing going on in her life but going to work and letting her step sis treat her like dog dirt. A girl, who seems to have no hopes or dreams ,except avoiding step sis’s drama. No hobbies,no friends ( except one out of state) ,no pet ,no nothing . All we get is her whiny inner monologue where she LOVES to tell us the same stuff over and over, mainly about how she can’t believe Levi would want her and how she literally has nothing to offer him.
And guess what ? I wholeheartedly agree! Levi is supposed to be close in age to Knox, and with how cagey Knox is about his age I figure it’s got to be up there. I’m thinking over 300, maybe 4-500? Three feels maybe too low but 500 is too high. Maybe . Let’s split the diff and say Levi is around 350 give or take ,right ? What the Hell, does a 350 yr.old demon, with class and wisdom and experience ,a complex and complicated life and personality want with a very simple girl of 24 who seems to live to work and tell us how low her self esteem is ? Piper feels like a blank slate. She’s an F’ing child in all the ways that count and honestly brings NOTHING to the story. Why ? Why can’t we have grown women in these stories? Demons live 100’s and 100’s or years,so why are we given this boring lil girl? Levi deserves a do over. This isn’t even interesting. The sex scenes are the standard for Ms. Wright with the overly dominating male. This is mine, that is mine. Do this. Do that. Boring . Skip. Skim. But the story could/should be so much better. Loved having more Larkin, felt like Ms.Wright saw she was missed.
If this way KU,I’d say sure ,why not. But having to pay ? I’d say, your NOT missing anything if you skip.
Spoilers: Had been happy to stick w/three stars. Hadn't expected to go back and finish really. I wish to F I hadn't. Boy do I. Geez, this has been by the weakest book I've read in this series. Wanna say period but I REALLY HATED the last two books in the Olympus Pride series. I mean, come on Aspen and Camden knew each other for like 20 years almost. Glued to each others side almost from the moment they met and they NEVER had a clue they were mates ? Not even a hint ? B.S.! Let's not even go near Blair and Luke, they aren't the point anyway. W.T.F?!?!?!?
Weak lil Piper gets a chance to fight off her attacker all though the book (one of her few redeeming qualities) but gets trapped and tortured by not one but TWO psycho's when Levi is stupidly called away. A move used soooooooooo often by this writer it might as well be on speed dial. You know in just about every book she writes especially any paranormal book the h gets kidnapped at around the 75% mark. I am just so F'ing disgusted at seeing the h sitting there helpless as not one but TWO psycho's monologue as to why they're evil like some Disney villain. If your gonna do this at least give me Dr. Doofenshmirtz,he was interesting and funny. (Look up Phineas and Ferb). This is beyond cliche and made me physically cringe. It did. Why isn't this KU like of her other work? Yeah, she has the right to choose but I have to right to extra pissed off when I pay for a book a respect as little as this one.

Not gonna complain about the plot being same because let's be real that's exactly what I like about the author 😁 Book was good for 40% but then the lair business interfered and it tanked a bit for me.

3.75 stars!

Levi and Piper have always wanted each other. But Levi had a casual fling with Piper’s stepsister (even though she sees that differently) and Piper doesn’t think she is his type. But when they discover they’re anchors, all bets are off and Levi is determined to show Piper that being anchors is everything.

Of course Levi and Piper don’t want to just be anchors and fall into bed with each other thinking there’s an expiration date. With a murderer from Levi’s past on the loose and someone trying to kill Piper it doesn’t leave a lot of room for discovering what they both need indefinitely. Will they figure it out on time?

This might be one of two books of Wrights that I’ve ever rated this low and it pains me to do so but unfortunately Levi and Piper’s story didn’t blow me away like all the others in this wonderful world.

It felt like a departure from the way she normally writes her romances and honestly I kind of hated that she changed the formula. Wright never creates lasting inner turmoil or conflict between her MCs. They are always sure in their feelings and their bond and don’t let outside forces try to pick them apart. Levi and Piper suffered from one of my most hated story devices…lack of communication. Levi and Piper tip toe around each other entirely too much and it almost made me crazy. Levi seemed to lack some of Wright’s signature alpha male personality and Piper felt like a watered down version of the heroines I’m used to reading from Wright.

I was also pretty sad that their inner demons didn’t come out to play as much as previous books. The steam in here was panty melting but I wanted a little more intense intimacy between Piper and Levi. Even more telepathic intimacy would have been nice. But the couplings we did get between them were mostly swoon worthy. Am I being too picky? Maybe. But considering how much I love every other book in this series, I expected the same level of perfection.

The suspense and action parts of the story were well written and there weren’t too many moving pieces and parts going on to take away from the romance. I loved seeing the whole gang and Knox will always hold my heart. Always.

Overall, a really good read but I don’t think it stands up to the previous books in this series. Howeverrrrrr, Larkin and Teague….can’t wait for this one!! So excited.

✨3.75 stars rounded down to 3✨

'Reaper' was typical Suzanne Wright. It had her typical storyline, typical possessive alpha hero, typical chain of events and typical resolution. Basically rinse and repeat of other books in the series. And I picked it up as I was in need of that guaranteed read. Add to that it was Levi's book and I don't know but I was curious about him as a character from the beginning when he was introduced as Knox's personal bodyguard.

The bad news is this was too typical to the point of being bland. Sure I was reading about Piper and Levi but it felt like it could've been anyone. Their characters felt flat as a pancake. I didn't even feel the depth of their love and relationship.

The good news is I finished it as opposed to the last installment.

Maybe instead of a demon-demon pairing, she could've played with an incantor like Ella or Mia.

I don't think I am gonna read Larkin's book, which is next. But if Wright wrote Asher's book, I definitely will.

P.S- Does anyone know how Knox and his 'gang of sentinels' are all like centuries old and yet look young? Yet several other characters like h's parents are all aging normally. Like I am confused.

This series is one of my favorites. I can listen to them over and over again. Like most, I have been waiting to see what Levi was going to be like. We always got a glimpse of him, but never too much.

I was actually quite surprised by his character. He was not as domineering as some of SW's other heroes. Don't worry, he is still possessive and alpha, but just with a little bit more lad backness.

There was a few times I wanted to throttle him though.

Piper was everything and more I love in a SW heroine. The only thing I would have loved was if she put Levi in his place sooner.

All in all, another perfect addition to this series. We also got some little tidbits to get us all excited for Larkin's book next year.

I dnf'd this book at 21%
I really enjoyed the first one in the series, but haven't picked any of the others.
This one was a lil too insta for me, dint feel any tension other than the sister drama, that felt a lil over the top .. maybe if I read the other books would understand the context of the couple in this better, but untill then I am not continuing with the book.

A book that I was waiting for with great impatience and that I devoured =D

What I particularly liked :
- as always the universe with the demons which is so detailed (the different lairs, the different races of demons, the politics...)
- the plot with the seria-killer but also the attempts against Piper (I didn't expect the identity of the culprit !) (and of course Piper's horrible sister ... I love horrible sisters xD)
- the romance between Piper and Levi ... I was curious to see how it was going to be like because Levi is not a character we know a lot about and Piper was new ... And I loved their dynamic ! They were much more serious than the previous couples but just as endearing (special mention for Levi brand !)

In short, a book as addictive as the previous ones ! If you are a fan of urban fantasy, demons and sulphurous romances, I recommend it !
PS: THE NEXT BOOK IS WITH TEAGUE AND LARKIN !!!! The wait is going to be horrible ><

Liked Levi and Piper very much, I mean, there's nothing NOT to like, lol

Oh Levi. This was good but not my favorite of the series. I love Levi, however, his issues with commitment was why it's not my favorite. I like a hero who knows what he wants and goes for it. When he's with Piper, he is very much that dominant alpha so I can't complain too much.

Piper is a great heroine. She never argued just to argue. She understood that sometimes she needed to do certain things to stay safe and that was a refreshing change. I loved how much she loved Levi. Even when she didn't think he would want more, she handled the whole situation great.

I liked these two together and of course I enjoyed seeing all my favorites. Asher is so freaking adorable. I hope he gets a book when he grows up. Heidi too. She will be a riot!

This wasn’t my favorite installment of this series, but it’s Suzanne Wright so I still enjoyed it lol. For some reason I didn’t fully believe in Levi’s feelings for Piper. Their sexual relationship was so impersonal for so long and so easily cut off, idk I just wanted more from them. Also this family drama plot line with Piper’s family was built up, but then her parents had a come to Jesus moment on their own early on with no angst or confrontation and a lot of shit was left unaddressed and ignored so I would’ve liked to see more development and resolution with that it all just faded away forgotten. The multiple different people causing trouble in this book were also kind of anticlimactic and random. Overall though I still enjoyed reading this. I just got back from a big trip and have had the worst luck recently (lost baggage, car broke down, water went out at home 😅) all while trying to prepare for 4 friends coming to stay with me today so this took me a bit longer to read than it normally would, but I was glad to have this escape haha. I’m also looking forward to Larkin’s book next, we know so little about her.

Reaper is book 8 in The Dark in You series and it's Levi's story. I want to start by saying that I love this series but this one was a letdown for me. I think a big part of it was I didn't really know Levi. He's always been Knox's bodyguard and while present for lots of events he was still a background character for me. So, it took time for me to get to know him and his demon, but I did love them and their possessiveness of their Anchor. Piper was a great h, she was sweet and easy going and trusted Levi with her safety. Together they had great chemistry, and I loved them getting to know each other but the overall story was boring. I think at some point I may read it again, but I do look forward to more books in this series.

Finally.... After a freakin year of waiting on this book. This fantasy romance love story is one of my favorites series ever. I keep coming back and one of my personal favorites on these series are FALLEN (7) for many good reasons why. But unfortunately this specific one didn't make it to 5 stars but it still a great book to read!!!!😍😍👍

My favorite quote from the book:

“Lots of people have emotional wounds, Piper. Some don’t handle them well, and I don’t think anyone would ever expect them to. But nothing gives them the right to project all their anger and pain onto the people who aren’t responsible for those wounds.”

It had little unnecessary childish drama but not too much and not too annoying. The series is always had a plot twist and the the main full story about these series are powers, enemies, ancient history and creatures. So it's really a fun one to read especially with hot romance that's so addicting to me. I love it when a fantasy novel has a hot romance love story that is totally safe and no bullsh*t lol.

“No matter where you are, no matter who you’re with, you’ll always be mine. Fucking always.”

‼️‼️‼️WHEN THEY FIRST TOUCH AND KNOW THEY ARE ANCHORS, BOTH AND ESPECIALLY THE HERO BECAME VERY OBSESSED WITH THE HEROINE....

‼️‼️‼️TRIGGER: Death, killing, high on violence, almost death, brain injury, blood, knives, witches, demons, dark world and fire.

‼️‼️‼️MANY FUNNY SCENES AND JOKES WOULD MADE YOU LAUGH SO HARD lol.

‼️‼️‼️SAFE ROMANCE HOT LOVE STORY. SAFE ALL THE WAY...

‼️‼️‼️NO CHEATING AND NO SEPARATION.

‼️‼️‼️THE HERO IS OVER THE TOP POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE POWERFUL ALPHA MALE

‼️‼️‼️THE heroine is not too sassy, she's friendly and not so much about her actually but i can tell she's great tho...

‼️‼️‼️NO VIRGINS.

‼️‼️‼️IT HAS THEIR EX GIRLFRIEND AND BOYFRIEND SHOWS UP but from the her is one time and from the hero is three times but because the his ex girlfriend is the heroine's step sister (which they're not close tho)😄😄😄

‼️‼️‼️IT HAS DRAMA WITH OW AND OM AND ENEMIES BUT NOT TOO ANNOYING AND NOT TOO MUCH....

‼️‼️‼️MANY JEALOUS SCENES FROM THE HERO AND THE HEROINE....

‼️‼️‼️LOCATION: LAS VEGAS

‼️‼️‼️GREAT CHEMISTRY

‼️‼️‼️VERY HOT SMUT SCENES🥺🥺🥺

“The demon’s hands slid under her body and grabbed her breasts. They weren’t gentle. Nor were the teeth that trailed bites along her upper back. The burning stings of pain pushed all kinds of hot buttons, and she soon came with yet another scream. The entity didn’t stop. It kept on fucking in and out of her, even as she pretty much went limp in its grip. Sometimes Levi took over, but then the demon would be back. Both boldly rammed into her body like it was there purely for their use. She hadn’t thought she could come again, but she did. The explosive orgasm wrecked her from the inside out, shattering her into a billion pieces, sending her defenses crumbling into rubble.”

‼️‼️‼️WE GET TO SEE CUTIE ASHER BEING SO CUTE🥺🥺 I WANT TO SEE MORE OF ASHER BEING POWERFUL AND CUTE PLEASE AUTHOR....

‼️‼️‼️THE HERO IS OBSESSED WITH THE HEROINE SINCE THE FIRST TIME HE SAW HER but unfortunately when that first time happened, the hero is the boyfriend of the heroine's stepsister... So he can't make a move on her and also at the time the heroine was very young under 18 and he didn't know she was his anchor.

“What was I supposed to say to her, Piper? ‘ Actually, Celeste, I can’t stop wondering what it’d feel like to have your stepsister sucking my cock ’?”

Piper’s lips parted, red and swollen. His dick predictably twitched.

She blinked hard.
“Sorry, what?”

“A man does not tell a woman he’s involved with that he finds her stepsister attractive. I didn’t speak up for you, because I didn’t trust that my words wouldn’t reveal what I really wanted: You . Under me. As many times as I could have you.”

‼️‼️‼️THE ACTIONS⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

‼️‼️‼️IT HAS PUSHING AWAY couple of times that i don't find it annoying the pushing away stuff cause it wasn't that a lot but what pissed me is that the reason for it is so freakin childish. For me it's childish lol.

‼️‼️‼️HAPPY ENDING.
Gonna get married.

‼️‼️‼️WHAT I DON'T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK:

1. Really author? The heroine has to be the stepsister of the hero's ex girlfriend really? Why? Isn't that disgusting? Cause for me it is. Imagine them being at their family house and them sitting at the table knowing the hero has been inside her sister and the heroine herself. Ewww🤢

2. The pushing away from the hero and the reason for him to do that is so childish. But I'm glad they still together afterwards but still the pushing away still annoys me lol.

3. THE hero has been wanting the heroine since he first met her six years ago. Wanting her for that long but doesn't want to really pursue her.... Like what? “To put it simply, I wanted you then. I still want you now.”

“He thought of Piper from time to time. She simply popped into his thoughts.”

So maybe he was not that serious back then but why wait that long? That what's frustrating to me! Like go get her already. And he only date the stepsister only for 4 months! Argh.

5. All of the DARK IN YOU series has OTHER WOMEN DRAMA. Every single book has that. Which annoys me so much😂 Can we not have that please cause it's so very annoying😓

But besides of what I don't like, it still a good book and fun one to read...

👉🏽👉🏽👉🏽Thank you so much for reading my review❤️❤️ For you who loves my review and follow it, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I did not get paid or be told to do a review on a book. I’m here just to write review about a book so i can remember it. Its my honest opinion😚 I didn’t know at first people will find me and follow me and trust me to be honest, I was surprised myself to look at the notifications from people who reach out to me😆 So everything i write down here on a review is based on my personal opinion and based on my true writing. I DID NOT COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW OR WRITING SKILL because at first when i was using this app for one year i didn’t know how to scroll down on a book and see the reviews from others😂😅🤣 I know, silly me but hey I finally learned my lesson 😛😛😛 Thats why when people assume i copy someone’s review i was like what? Because at first i didn’t know how to use this app properly and i didn’t know how to open someone’s review because for a year i never follow someone or add friends or someone😂😂😂🤣 (I’m laughing so hard) 🤪 AND I NEVER COPY SOMEONE’S REVIEW EVER. IF I WRITE SOMETHING WRONG OR DOESN’T MAKE SENSE PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND BE NICE OKAY. 👈🏽👈🏽👈🏽✋🏽✋🏽 IF YOU'RE BEING MEAN AND NEGATIVE ALREADY WITH A WARNING AND NOT BEING WISE TO ME, I WILL NOT ENTIRELY READ YOUR COMMENT AND REMOVE YOU EASILY AND FAST. I DO NOT TOLERATE NEGATIVE COMMENT SO KNOW YOUR PLACE, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I’m writing my disclaimer again here cause many negative people still don't get it or still be stupid enough not to understand my POV when I already write it so many times before. So here I am writing it again to you beautifuls human being😁😁 WHEN YOU READ MY LONG OR SHORT REVIEW, YOU WOULD KNOW THAT WHAT I LIKE ABOUT A STORY AND CHARACTERS RIGHT... IF YOU DON'T KNOW THEN HERE IT IS: I LIKE A BOOK WITH VERY POSSESSIVE PROTECTIVE ALPHA MALE, NO CHEATING, AND PLEASE NO MANWHOR3, NO MANY PUSHING AWAY, NO DOORMAT HEROINES, NO MANY OW DRAMA, NO S3X SCENE WITH SOMEONE ELSE. AND SAFE ALL THE WAY AND A HAPPY ENDING. Something that I don't like it very much if the hero or heroine have a crazy fvcked up personality and likes. Example: killing someone and let the heroine watch it all and push the heroine to lick all the blood of his victim and made her have to eat the meat of humans. and fvcks many woman in front of the heroine while telling her he loves her. I DON'T LIKE THAT TYPE OF SH*T AT ALL. That's just who I am, that's what I like and I don't like on a book. Maybe you love that, but I don't. We humans are different, we think very differently from one another. You have your likes and I have mine, you have your opinions and I have mine of my own. You think it's stupid of me to love such a book or to not love a book or to hate it whatever lol, I think it's bad you think that way cause I respect people's opinions cause I know for a fact we have our differences. YOU AND ME ARE DIFFERENT FOR PETE'S SAKE. I even have my own friends or people I follow here that shows how much they don't like the book I like, I never even give them a long comment or short Comment. Cause I respect their opinions. I don't like to give people I hard time here cause life itself is already hard enough. I do respect your opinion if you say my review is bad or whatever negative things about it, but in the end of the day I will not changed my mind about what book I dislike and how my thoughts about it. You can't tell me what to do. You can give me advice but it's me who decided to know what's right for me, this is my life and not yours. Read that again. Don’t assume things about me that is not even real, just don’t. cause when you do you’re more small minded for sure. You're thinking why I'm telling you all of this when you already know? Is because you still hating on my opinions and don't understand my POV and don't respect my POV. You think i like writing this disclaimer when obviously you're an adult already? no i personally think this is unnecessary... but because there are people out there who still don't get it *rolling my eyes*. Hopefully they or the people who read this disclaimer can use a beautiful thing called a brain:) AND WHEN YOU READ MY REVIEW, READ IT VERY CLEARLY TO SEE IF I FINISHED THE BOOK OR NOT. KNOW THE DIFFERENCE. AND YES ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE. BUT IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M WRITING, THEN IT MEANS YOU UNDERSTAND IT ENOUGH. I DO NOT TOLERATE BULLYING, NEGATIVE COMMENTS AND MEAN WORDS. PLEASE USE A WISE WORDS SO WE DON'T ATTACK EACH OTHER. SIMPLY, I DON’T LIKE TO HAVE AN ARGUMENT WITH STRANGERS LIKE YOU CAUSE I HAVE BETTER THINGS TO DO😚 BUT IF YOU STILL WANT TO BE AMBER HEARD KARENS THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND MY DISCLAIMER AFTER I JUST WRITE IT DOWN, THEN GO ENJOY YOUR DAY AND GO AWAY. IT'S VERY EASY FOR A HUMAN COULD DO YA KNOW. IF YOU STILL HERE HATING ME OR ANNOYED WITH ME, THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM. NOT ME PROBLEM. HASHTAGS BURN😂😂 DON'T TAKE THINGS TOO PERSONALLY ON ONLINE CAUSE WE ALL A STRANGERS, WE NEVER EVER MEET. WE'RE ADULTS HERE SO LETS BE WISER. LAST, I BLOCK NEGATIVE PEOPLE! SO GET WELL SOON TO THE HATERS. HOPEFULLY YOUR HEART AND MIND WILL BE MORE POSITIVE 🙏🙏🙏 AND THIS DISCLAIMER MAY SEEMS LIKE TOO HARSH ON YOU BUT HEY I DON'T LIKE TO SUGAR COATED THINGS. I LIKE TO SAY TO THE POINT WITH MY UNDERSTANDING AND MY OWN THOUGHTS, CAUSE THAT'S HOW HUMANS ARE. WE ARE DIFFERENT REMEMBER👍 HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!

Here the things when you read a series.
You always compare the latest book with the previous book that you like.

Against Maddox And Raini’s story? This one just came up short! 😬.

Larkin and Teague, next! ❤️

Same old, same old. In some pages literally the same old.
Still, I guess we all (kind of) read her books for her formula, but I do wish hers wasn’t so transparent, so easy to see. And I really wish she did improve as a writer trying her hand at something truly different.

Nonetheless, I had great fun with some part of this books (and no, she sucks at sex scenes if that is what you all thought 😜).

Levi is sort of hot. Like I could want him in real life. The death ballad totally did it.

This book ticked a lot of my boxes.
Strong female character
Protective male character
Follows the plot throughout the book
And the relationship is neither moving to fast or to slow. Well, maybe a little fast.

I liked how the book finally had a female character who is not a part of Harper’s friend group. Or at least she didn’t start out that way. Piper had her own friend, Olive, whom she talked to, though not as much as I wanted.
Since she wasn’t originally in the friend group I wish there had been more bonding scenes with the girls. We often read about how she had been hanging out with one of them, but not actually seeing it. And suddenly she was completely in the group, out of nowhere.

There is one thing bothering me, not about the book specifically, but the series as a whole.
The secrets.
Always the secrets.
I could understand keeping Knox’s secrets when Harper and Knox were the main protagonists, but the sentinels knows his secret, and I somehow feel like there is this constant wall up in the books where we are following the love lives of the people around Knox and Harper.
Harper’s friends doesn’t even know that she can call on the flames of hell, but the sentinels do. Nobody knows about what Asher is, and I don’t see the point in Harper and Knox keeping that a secret. Absolutely from the rest of the world, but not their group of friends and family!
If all of the secrets were just out on the table, I feel like they would be more like a group and a family than what they are right now.

I am not looking forward to the next book, because I don’t feel like I know Larkin despite being a part of the series from the beginning, and all I know about Teague is that he is Khloë’s anchor, but he wasn’t much a part of the series even in her book.

Needed Less Words & More Action

3.5 Stars.

I love this author and this series
But
I did not love this book.

It was filled with to many words that were literally just filler. That slowed the story down to a nearly excruciating crawl.

Most of the books in this series is filled with action and Fun. Intrigue and suspense. While there was some of that this was mostly just words to fill space.

The sex scenes were pretty good.
I'm disappointed though because I was really looking forward to this one.

I will definitely read the next in the series. This is the first time I didn't enjoy a book in this series. So I expect the next one to be much better.

My least favourite book in the series so far. It just seemed to be a repeat of everyone else’s story.

Suzanne Wright's books are usually my guilty pleasure, but this one just fell a little flat for me.

They're my guilty pleasure because most of them are objectively bad books for multiple reasons.
1. Rampant internalized misogyny
2. MCs of all of her books are exactly the same just with different names (girls and guys)
3. Plots are usually predictable
4. Smut tends to be the same for every book
5. Uneven power dynamics in the relationships
6. Lack of representation

Despite all of the internal turmoil I experience while reading, I enjoy reading them at least 50% of the time. For this book, there were fewer triggers, but it was just kind of boring. The plot wasn't compelling and Piper and Levi had next to no chemistry. The only thing interesting about Piper was the drama with her sister, and Levi was cardboard. In the end, I didn't care about either of them or what was going to happen next.

It was also kind of odd to me how disconnected this book was from the rest of the series. We got a few mentions of Levi and Larkin, but we didn't really know anything about them other than what kind of demon they were. They were definitely background characters, but this book pretended like they were a main part of the group the whole time. That might have also impacted how little I cared about Levi because the previous books didn't build up my interest in him at all.

To me, Suzanne Wright's books just feel very dated especially those from her earlier series like the Pheonix and Mercury Pack books. This one specifically wasn't too problematic, but I think I just don't connect with this author's style of writing or humor (especially the humor like my god all of the jokes were totally slapstick humor and just so unfunny).

I guess this turned into more of a review of the author than this actual book, but that's only because this book was so unmemorable that I don't have any feelings about it. I'll probably read more books by this author because she does have releases that I actually liked like most of the Olympus Pride and this (Dark in You) series.

So, I would recommend this series just not this book in particular.

I knew going into this book that the plot was going to be messy as hell– and it was *plus so much more. Do not be fooled by the short and sweet synopsis because that is not all that this book has to offer. There is stepsister's-former-lover drama, demons, action, and the perfect amount of spicy romance. It's the kind of book that you pick up when you want something predictable like a cheesy contemporary romance to keep you sane, yet this one has that extra flair of urban fantasy mixed into it.

Admittedly, I am quite new to the urban fantasy genre so I was a little confused by some of the aspects (aka the whole concept of anchors and mates) but it didn't prove to be difficult when it came to Wright's writing style. She clear has a knack for this genre, as evidence by her multi-book series', and it's easy to see why her books are highly rated. The world she's built and the characters she's created make for great storytelling. Despite, this book not being my favourite of hers, it's still worth a try if it suits your fancy.

3 stars.
