How do you start over when the biggest mistake of your life has more than one million views?

Forget diamonds—the internet is forever. Social media consultant Isla Thompson learned that lesson the hard way when she went viral for all the wrong reasons. A month later, Isla is still having nightmares about the moment she ruined a young starlet’s career and made herself the most unemployable influencer in Manhattan. But she doesn’t have the luxury of hiding until she’s no longer Instagram poison. Not when her fourteen-year-old sister, Dani, needs Isla to keep a roof over their heads. So, she takes the first job she can get: caring for Camilla, a glossy-maned, foul-tempered hellhound.

After a week of ferrying Camilla from playdates to pet psychics, Isla starts to suspect that the dachshund’s bark is worse than her bite—just like her owner, Theo Garrison. Isla has spent her career working to make people likable and here’s Theo—happy to hide behind his reputation as a brutish recluse. But Theo isn’t a brute—he’s sweet and funny, and Isla should not see him as anything but the man who signs her paychecks. Because loving Theo would mean retreating to his world of secluded luxury, and Isla needs to show Dani that no matter the risk, dreams are always worth chasing.

The Dachshund Wears Prada by Stefanie London is the first book in the contemporary romance Paws in the City series. As with a lot of contemporary romance series the Paws in the City series will feature new main characters with each installment with a full romance in each book. Since there will be new characters each book can be read as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so with some glimpses of previous characters.

Isla Thompson has worked hard to make a living out of her passion for social media marketing. Isla’s latest job is making a young star look fabulous at a big function when everything goes wrong and Isla is still streaming the events. With that one failed job Isla’s world has come crumbling down around her.

Isla doesn’t have time to dwell in her failures with being responsible for her younger sister and needing to keep a roof over both of their heads. When job after job passes her by Isla isn’t sure what to do until she runs into wealthy Theo Garrison. Theo’s grandmother has just passed leaving him custody of her temperamental pup and when Isla tames her in a blink Theo proposes a dog sitting position at three times her old pay.

The Dachshund Wears Prada by Stefanie London was such a cute but yet steamy opener for the contemporary romance Paws in the City series. I will admit part of my liking this one so much is probably due to being an enormous animal lover so toss some cute pet moments in and I’m all gushy. I also happen to love romance stories with children involved and adored that Isla was a guardian to her teen sister and it was definitely fun to watch Isla tame the brooding Theo. Nice start to the series and I look forward to Scout’s story next!

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Such a cute read! So witty, adorable and touching. I loved the back stories for both of the main characters and the character development built throughout story. The ending was a perfect touch. The author's writing style flows amazingly and just makes you feel like you're there with the characters. The dog was an absolute ham, hilarious and stubborn. I loved this story.

Also side note, I think it was amazing how a character with my identical name was repeated throughout the epilogue. Never seen a character with my first and last name, even though first name wasn't spelt the same. Such a cool find!

I received this ARC physical copy via a Goodreads Giveaway. The statements above are my own true opinion after fully reading this book.

Oh this is a fun, witty, moving and absolutely gorgeous story, Stefanie London has bought us the first in her new series and it is a must read, filled with all of the feels of a fabulous romance this one will keep you turning the pages as we get to know Camilla the Dachshund and Theo and Isla.

Social media consultant Isla Thompson is good at what she does, that is until a mistake that will take her career away. Now Isla has no job she is an outcast in the world she loves and she has a young sister to care for one that she loves so much after all they have been through, a chance meeting in Central Park brings her in contact with Theo Garrison the hermit of New York and his dog Camilla, will life change for Isla and how will it change?

Theo does not mix with people they call him a hermit for a reason, he runs the family publishing business and there are few people that know him well, the recent loss of his grandmother has been hard and even harder still he now has the care of her dog Camilla and finding dog sitters proves hard with this beautiful but mean tempered dog. Walking her in Central Park a chance meeting with a beautiful woman who Camilla appears to like will change his life in such a good way.

Isla takes on the role of dog sitter not the career she really wanted but needs must, she gets to know Camilla while taking her for playdates psychic’s and appointments but she also gets to know Theo the recluse, she sees more in her boss than most people would and their friendship grows. Isla also discovers that pets make good social media characters and Isla is soon torn between going for her dreams or hurting Theo.

I loved this story so very much, it is beautifully written, filled with emotion and so much fun I laughed so much throughout this one and I was cheering Theo and Isla on. The ending had me in happy tears and sighing to see Theo open up and for two people who deserved so much to find such love and happiness. This is one that I would highly recommend don’t miss out and I can’t wait for the next one.

My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my copy to read and review

My Thoughts /

As a very doting Dachshund ‘Grandma’ there was never any question that I wasn’t going to read this one, it was just a matter of ‘when’.

If you were wondering (like me) if Prada did in fact have such a thing as a pet collection, the answer is well yes, they do. Bearing in mind that I live in Australia so my prices will be in Australian Dollars, you can deck out your pooch in this season’s most fashionable outfits for the price of a large house – or should I say mansion. You will need a pet leash and collar to go for walks. The collar will set you back AUD$760 and the leash AUD$950. But you really can’t go out walking a naked dog can you, so you will need a jacket (or Coat if you prefer) and that starts at around AUD$1,390. You see where I’m going with this don’t you. If you have a terrific disposable income and are so inclined – I say ‘go for it’ – I just hope that your purchases come with an absolutely mind boggling warranty.

Unlike our four legged mc Camilla, my four legged grandbaby ‘Stella’ has her ‘Haute couture’ purchased on sale at the PetBarn Warehouse and, gets bathed in the local DIY dogwash (which is conveniently situated at the back of the carpark of our local supermarket). And really, the only thing royal about our Stella is that her kibble is made by Royal Canin! But I love her with all my heart (well, except when she chews my pot plants!)

But I digress. To the story.

The Dachshund Wears Prada is the first book in the Paws in the City series and written by Stefanie London.

When Camilla’s human companion Etna Garrison died, she wasn’t the only one who felt left alone and grieving. Etna’s grandson Theo was left devastated after the sudden death of his dear grandmother. After losing both his parents when he was ten years old, it was Theo’s grandmother who took him in and raised him and two were incredibly close. With his gram's passing, Theo is set to inherit the entirety of her vast estate - which makes special mention of the care of his grandmother's mischievous dachshund, Camilla.

Social media consultant Isla Thompson is the primary caregiver to her younger sister, Dani. Filling that role has been hard but rewarding, watching Dani grow into a bright vivacious and intelligent young adult. Isla has worked hard building her ‘influencer’ business from the ground up, and it is coming along quite nicely – all her hard work is paying off. But one live streamed viral interview faux pas is set to ruin everything Isla has been working so hard to achieve. She’s now jobless. Worse than that, she’s been completely blacklisted by anyone and everyone in the social media industry. It’s a huge blow – she can’t find work, she has bills to pay, her sister to care for and her savings are running low. She needs a job – any job – and fast!

Despite being one of the richest men in Manhattan with his finger on the pulse of his publishing empire, Theo just cannot seem to manage one very small four-legged pooch. Having said that, Camilla is not your everyday canine companion. Hers is a life of day spas; grooming and treatments; playdates; pet psychics, and Vogue photoshoots. Her appointment diary is fuller than Theos! So, he sets about trying to find a full-time assistant, purely to look after Camilla. One day, during a walk in Central Park, Camilla gets loose from Theo and takes off, finally running into Isla and Dani. Theo is surprised as instead of nipping at the two apparent strangers, Camilla is the perfect angel, accepting pats and paw shakes. At his wits end and seeing how taken Camilla seems to be with her newfound friends, Theo offers Isla a job.

What follows, though totally predictable, is made all the more enjoyable because of the characters. The writing is humorous and sweet. The characters, charming and relatable. They all tug at your heartstrings. Theo is gruff while Isla is Little Miss Sunshine. While Camilla pees in Theo’s shoes, she lies on her back and lets Isla rub her belly. The romance between Theo and Isla is a little bit reminiscent of the movie “Pretty Woman”. It’s just as well that I enjoyed that move. But while the main thread of the story is all Theo and Isla; the secondary character relationships in this book deserve special mention. The relationship between Isla and her younger sister Dani is beautiful. Isla is patient and supportive of Dani, while Dani is aware of the sacrifices her sister is making for her and is more than willing to help her sister in return. Likewise, the relationship between Isla and her best friend Scout. Scout is a very strong emotional support for Isla and, quite the unique character. I hope we see more of her in the future.

Recommended if you enjoy rom coms and pets!

you guys don't know this about me, but i dream of having a dachshund (and that's definitely why i picked up this book). one day it'll happen but for now i'm reading a book with one, and unfortunately, she's the only interesting thing here (she's such a diva, i love her 💋). i'm bored with the rest of the story, feel no connection with the romance, and have no desire to keep reading 😔

This book was fun! And it literally had every single thing I like, tropes I like? So I highkey enjoyed it. I am currently watching Hunter x Hunter so that's why I was taking my time reading this lmao but tbh it was great.

So, Isla is a very famous social media manager to this Disney princess actress. But then after a scandal and going viral for the wrong thing, her career just ... is destroyed. Looking for a job desperately, she finds one as a dog sitter to a pampered Dachshund! Her owner is none other than the Hermit of Fifth Avenue, Theo Garrison, a recluse billionaire who owns a publishing house.

This definitely has the grumpy/sunshine trope. Plus a pampered cute dog who is the very best! Theo has had many loses in his life, so he's very closed-off and doesn't let anyone in, until Isla of course!!! He cannot stop thinking about her, he even buys her a special edition anniversary fantasy novel because he saw her reading it ONCE. It's even autographed by the author omg. He's a goner!!!

The Dachshund Wears Prada also has some pretty steamy scenes!? Like omg I was fully blushing throughout some sex scenes and I did not expect that. They're very horny for each other.

It's very much Emily in Paris meets Beauty and the Beast in NYC, so if you love the sound of that, definitely read this one!!!

This is my first time reading a novel by Stefanie London and now that I have, I'm interested in reading more by her. I was initially attracted to this one because of the title and cover, but what is inside is so enjoyable and entertaining!

This was such a sweet story from beginning to end. I loved both Isla and Theo, as well as Camilla the pampered pooch. Camilla's schedule was so funny and she had such an interesting personality. I felt bad for Isla's career situation since people were so hard on her over something that was obviously an accident. I like how Isla wanted to go about reinventing her career the honest way, instead of relying on handouts or using people. Dani and Scout were such fun characters and I love how they supported Isla. I also love how Isla and Theo started forming a bond as they got to know each other better, and then some. Having said that, the bedroom scenes were so hot! Do not read this in a place where people could see you blushing...

My only concern is that I felt like Stefanie hammered some things over my head too much. Like how Theo didn't want anyone in his life and how Isla was doing all she did to be a good example for Dani. I got it the first time around, so it didn't need to be repeated incessantly.

Overall, I really liked this novel. It's a fun and romantic summer read that will make you feel like you have been transported to New York City! It's perfect for fans of Whitney Dineen and Melanie Summers, or anyone who loves romcom novels.

Take a lonely, reclusive businessman, and give him an inheritance from his deceased grandmother. What is his reaction? Pure panic, because what Theo inherited was a dog. Not just any dog, but a spoiled, over-pampered dachshund, with many important “events” scheduled. Theo panics and hires
a dogsitter for Camille, Isla Thompson, a former media influencer. She has plenty of time on her hands; because a video she made went mistakenly viral, and now no one wants her “influence”any more. Despite the fact that tiny Camille has a reputation as a canine Godzilla, Isla takes on the job, because she is raising her younger sister alone and needs the cash flow.
As Isla settles into her job, she discovers that Camille has her reasons for the aggressive behavior that has made past dog sitters run for the hills. She also finds out that her stern, straight-laced boss has reasons for why he is known as “The Fifth Avenue Hermit”. Like owner-like dog; could it be grief that makes these two creatures so seemingly hostile to having relationships?

This book would have been 4 stars, possibly even five. I loved the relationship between Isla and her sister Dani. As a dog lover, I giggled over the scenes with “Princess Camille”. I even choked up a bit when it was revealed just why Theo is so closed-off to everyone. What I did not enjoy was the descriptions of the very graphic, extremely steamy sex scenes.
I hope the sequel coming out in November 2022 is quite a bit more tame.

Koks jaukus, smagus romanas, o jau šuns charakteris!

The Dachshund Wears Prada by Stefanie London is the first book in her Paws in the City series. This adorable romance has a high maintenance and delightful dachshund named Carmen that steals the show.

Isla Thompson just suffered a career-ending blow when a video goes viral of her interview with a Disney princess. Isla has been caring for her younger sister, Dani for the past several years, and built her influencer business up from nothing. But after the viral interview, she doesn’t know how she’ll be able to support herself and her sister, as nobody will hire her after that video.

Theo Garrison just lost his grandmother, his only family, and has inherited her misbehaving dachshund named Carmen. Exasperated with Carmen’s shenanigans, he takes the dog out for a walk in the park where he runs into Isla and Dani. Carmen takes an instant liking to both women and Theo is amazed that the dog is so calm with them. He offers Isla a job as a dog sitter for Carmen. Will Isla be able to tame Carmen and Theo?

This is a cute and charming, but predictable story. Carmen makes the story a bit more interesting with all her high-end spa treatments and photo shoots. The romance between Theo and Isla was good and a bit steamy. I loved the relationship between Isla and her sister, Dani. They have a horrible mother, so they depend on each other very much, and I enjoyed watching them figure out how to add a romance to their dynamic.

I also enjoyed the Theo and Carmen relationship. They were both grieving their grandmother, and both were acting out in their own ways to keep their broken hearts from breaking any more.

I recommend The Dachshund Wears Prada to anyone who enjoys a good romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Man priminė paauglystėje žiūrėtų per tv6 lyg tokių skanių saldžių romantinių filmų scenarijų.

THE DACHSHUND WEARS PRADA
by Stefanie London
Harlequin Trade Publishing, HQN
Pub Date: May 3

The title and cover totally grabbed me, and the charming story just pulled me in. Social media whiz Isla loses her job after one huge mistake. But as her sister's guardian, she needs a a new one fast and jumps at the first one she's offered: As dog sitter for Camilla, a bad-tempered doxie, whose rich owner Theo is considered equally difficult.

What Isla finds is that Camilla is really lovable, as is Theo, who has shielded himself from amour due to past hurts.

I absolutely loved this funny, delightful, joyful RomCom, and look forward to reading any book Stefanie London writes.

Thanks to the author, Harlequin Trade Publishing, HQN, and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are mine.

Two small poodles are lying on a fluffy blanket with a softcover book between them.

📚 Hello Book Friends! THE DACHSHUND WEARS PRADA by Stefanie London was cute, cute, cute! How can you resist a romance novel staring an adorable furbaby with a strong sense of entitlement and fashion? I love how the author built the relationship between Isla and Theo. It got hotter and hotter, although a bit dramatic on Theo’s part. I will excuse him since the ending was awesome. This was an entertaining and pleasant romance novel and a quick read. I recommend it.

I gratefully enjoyed this more than I hoped for, even if a few things took it down here and there.

I really liked Isla as one of the main points of view. She was optimistic and full of light. I was willingly cheering her on through the ups and downs of trying to be a good caretaker and parent to her sister and finding a new path after losing her job. Isla’s resilience knew no bounds and I was proud of what she accomplished.

Theo was the other point of view (YAY for double points of view in a romance!). More gruff around the edges and unwillingly to see past his own walls, he took some warming up to see his soft side. I ADORE the grump/sunshine trope and thought this was an excellent execution of that.

Mixed thoughts towards some of the plot. I think there was almost too much focus on other things and at times I noticed a repetitiveness to the inner dialogue about varying situations. It took me awhile to feel invested in the romance because I thought things jumped off too quickly since the focus kept turning to other matters.

The conflict had me shaking my head a bit as well. It was heavily hinted throughout buuuut still. I guess I just hoped it would work a bit differently or there’d be a spin on it that I could get behind. While that wasn’t the case, I did absolutely LOVE the grand gesture at the end and the sweetness that followed. FYI this was steamier than I expected and there’s a few scenes, easily skippable if you prefer that like me!

Also yes, the dog, Camilla, is feisty and lovable and played a good sized roll. I loved her spunky vibe and how incredibly touching she could be. Pulls at your heart strings for fellow animal lovers!

Overall audience notes:
- Contemporary Romance
- Language: a little strong
- Romance: multiple open door
- Trigger/Content Warnings: recounting loss of parents (car wreck), parental abandonment, grief, brief mention of suicide ideation, loss of a grandparent

I can’t recall the last time I read a Stefanie London book, but the cover and the concept of this one completely won me over. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end and often found myself smiling as I read it.

It was an utterly pleasant read that swept me off my feet. Although the dog plays an important role in this story, for me, it was Theo, the hero. He’s a bit rough around the edges, but I thought there were a lot of charming qualities to his character as well.

I was also a big fan of the whole girly theme. I feel there’s definitely room for more books like this, so I’m hoping that London will create a series out of this book or write more with this style. After reading this one, I have no doubt that I’ll be checking out more of her books.

The Dachshund Wears Prada was OK for me. I didn't love it and I didn't hate it. It was a bit predictable with average characters. I have never seen the movie that the title is based on, so the constant references to it were lost on me. I did like Isla and her positive, hard working attitude. She was a good role model for her sister. Theo really took me a long time to warm up to, but he had a lot of growth by the end so I ended up liking him. Isla was able to break down his barriers and show him that love was an option. It's fine and I would recommend if you are looking for a rom-com.

This book was an absolute delight!!! Sweet, steamy, and funny with a wonderful romance and packed full of fabulous characters! I loved Isla and Theo sooooo much! Their romance was lovely and I loved seeing them open up and let each other in. Camilla, the sassy dachshund, was such a fun character and I loved all of the side characters, too! Looking forward to more in this series!!!!
