For fashion designer Renee Rothchild, a friendship with marine Greg Bowman was always safer than imagining a future together. The stress of dating a military man might trigger the panic disorder she’s worked so hard to manage. Greg says he's ready to leave the military, but he loves his job, and she can’t let him give it up for her. Can Greg convince Renee that despite their differences, they do belong together?

A fashion designer with an anxiety disorder fears to start a relationship with a man who puts his life on the line in the military. Small town, friends to lovers from a new to me author had strong appeal so I gave into temptation.
Her Marine Hero is the third standalone romance in the Polk Island series. I could see that the two previous stories were about the heroine’s cousins getting their romances and that Renee and maybe Greg had been introduced earlier, but I had no trouble diving in out of series order.
Greg Bowman returns after a few years. He’s been serving in the Marines and made it into MARSOC, the Marine Special Operations regiment which was his goal. But lately, he feels the pull to finish out his time and get out of the military since he never planned to retire. He is considering taking his friend up on a job offer and if that offer puts him close to the woman who turned him down and put him in the friends category? Perhaps he can persuade her to give him a chance once his job isn’t coming between them.
Her fashion designs and sales are a big success now and she feels a contentment for reaching the pinnacle of her success, but then a huge temptation arrives back in her quaint, pretty small town and stirs her up. Renee Rothschild has had a thing for Greg since they met and went on a date. She put a halt to things knowing that her anxiety disorder would eat her alive dating a guy in the military gone on active duty and besides her ex did a number on her and she hasn’t come to terms with that issue. But here is Greg and he’s well-nigh irresistible. They both have different dreams and needs though so how could it possibly be a good idea?
I settled into the author’s warm, tender, and gently-paced writing style right away. The setting sounds perfect- a small island community and family and friends supporting each other. The sweet time of friends who feel the sparkle of attraction and share some poignant moments made for easy reading and romantic feel throughout. It wasn’t lacking in layers and some drama, either.
The heart of the romantic conflict is the heroine struggling to get past her anxiety, her belief that she can’t handle a relationship with a person with a military career, and the pair of them struggling with the possibility that one of them will have to give up their dreams. I was cheering them on and admit to getting impatient with Renee for holding them back particularly when she seems to be making Greg pay for what her ex pulled on her, but she does deal with that eventually. Also, I applaud her for seeing the hardship that a military relationship might be and her selfless desire that Greg not have to sacrifice his dream career. He doesn’t think he’s sacrificing, but there is a crisis when he needs to go back to duty for a friend and his desire to leave the Marines isn’t so cut and dry.
I appreciated that she had written characters of service and duty like her cousins and the hero in civic and military service careers, but also of different abilities with the heroine’s cousin getting used to a prosthetic after military duty and the heroine dealing with mental health struggles.
All around, this was touching and satisfying. I would definitely read more from the author and I was glad to see that there will be more Polk Island stories. Those who want a quick, but heartwarming sweet romance with solid character development should definitely give this book/series a try.
I rec'd an eARC via NetGalley to read in exchange for an honest review.
My full review will post at Caffeinated Reviewer Nov 2nd.
Renee Rothschild is a clothing designer. It was her dream even though her own parents did not support her. She found her own support network in friends and family Greg Bowman a friend of her cousin Trey was drawn to her. Renee put in the friend zone because she concerned about him being in the service and getting hurt. This story was how both Renee and Greg worked thru their private concerns and came together as a team.
The third book in the Polk Island Series was an eye opener. Leaning to live with a problem others do not understand. Renee, was trying with the help of her Marine Greg. Will she succeed or loose out on her HEA?
As a marine wife I enjoyed this book. It felt like I was Renee I went through many of the issues that were described in the story. Great job on having realistic events. Every time my husband deployed it seemed like my life would be put on hold until he returned safe and sound. Awesome read!
Good read, I liked to characters and storyline. Gregory was instantly attracted to Renee. Gregory had decisions to make about his future with the military. Renee had old baggage from her past, and her growing career as and up and coming fashion designer. This is their journey to love.
I recommend the Polk Island series. The family support was grate. Renee to afraid to live and love but after panic attacks and the love and understanding of Greg Bowman she found her happy ever after.
What an enjoyable experience reading this third book of the "Polk Island" series. A testament for overcoming adversity, panic disorder and "Kevin". The author writes and the reader can feel. I enjoy this author's writing!
Renee suffers with pretty severe panic disorders. She begins to work my nerves bec it’s always about her. I was grateful to learn about the ailment in this novel, but her ailment was so severe that it made being in a man/woman relationship very hard. But Mr. Bowman was truly in love with Renee, every good and every imperfection. Renee’s ex boyfriend was an unhealthy relationship. They were already split at the beginning of the novel, but as a straight jerk, I’m sure he contributed to her disorder. She gave Kevin too much control to her emotional wellness, and he trampled even after they broke up. Bowman, despite loving her like mad bec he was in the Armed Forces, Renee was scared to be in more than a friendship with him.

I am a longtime fan of Jacquelin Thomas since her Arabesque and Kimani days. She is such an awesome writing. This the 3rd book in the “Polk Island Series”. Renee is a fashion designer. Greg is ready retire from the Marine, but has to figure out what he wants to do with his life after the Marines. Greg and Renee are dating and Renee has panic attacks about Greg being a Marine. Renee doesn’t want Greg to give up his career because of her. Greg is called back to active duty to rescue a fellow marine.
Can Greg convince Renee that life as a Marine is great, will Greg retire from the Marines after his recent active duty, Can Renee and Greg have an HEA?
I received an ARC via NetGalley and Harlequin Romance, I am leaving my review voluntarily. Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Romance.
I have been waiting for this story since book 2, when I noticed their chemistry, and the author did not disappoint in this book. I loved these two, and they are probably my favorite couple in the series so far. I have been a fan of this author since the beginning of her career, and I think this might have been one of my favorite reads from her. I loved the chemistry between the characters, and I especially loved how Renee was able to follow her dreams and stood her ground and did not bend, although she could have. And part of the best part is how the author showcased an issue Renee has to deal with, and did so in such a supportive way. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
I received a copy of the book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review of my own thoughts and opinions.
Renee Rothchild is an up-and-coming clothing designer, but she has panic attacks whenever she imagines what might be happening to her best guy friend, Greg Bowman, who is a marine.
Greg is ready to retire from the marines, but what to do with his life thereafter remains a puzzle. Being with Renee is a plus, but will she accept him and he doesn't want her to think he will quit the marines only to be with her. He has to do it for himself and just as he's made that decision and is finally looking forward to taking a step into the future, he's called back to active duty to rescue a brother marine.
What happens next will likely affect both Greg and Renee. Now who's panicking?
This book touches on so much for those who have ever been involved with someone in the military. I enjoyed the small town romance. The friendship that was built between Renee and Greg was definitely needed.
Renee's business is flourishing and Greg is trying to figure out his future. Will they end up together or go their separate ways?
This is a honest review for the ARC that I have received for this book. I usually live reading tirles by this author, but for aome reason this story dragged and was slow getting to the point of something interesting happening. The storyline was great just seemed the book was filled with fluff instead of the passion I usually feel when I read a book by this particular author.
