The last thing Jodi Rose remembered was a shot of tequila.
Next thing she knows, Italian sociopath Van Doukas has her chained in his basement...
And he’s claiming she agreed to become the mother of his child. There's a detailed contract and everything... with her signature.
Jodi will do whatever it takes to get away from him... But she doesn’t count on the 6'7" Italian Stallion being skilled with his tongue and excellent in bed.

The first couple if chapters completely turned me off of this book. How did it get so many good ratings?? It couldn't have been from black women. Within the first 3 chapters she is called fat, ugly, a whore, and black ( not in a descriptive way either). Van does not endear himself to me when he basically thinks to himself that she looks like she doesn't miss a meal. Yeah...I felt kinda disrespected.... I'm definitely not finishing this book..

STORY: What I Like: I liked the idea behind this story. I became drawn to the beginning of the story and the way Jodi and Van met.
What Is So So: It was like a pot of soup, it smells good until I see the ingredients that goes into it. I think this book could have been great for me, but so many huhs were repeated on my end.
What gave me a strong urge to read this book, the synopsis. Jodi was drinking, woke up not knowing what was going on and found herself chained in Van's basement. Also, upon waking up, Van told Jodi she agreed to become the mother of his child and that there is a detailed contract with her signature………..uuuummmm, that’s not what I read. I was a little confused and maybe I am not reading the book properly, but, she was drugged woke up hysterical and Van told her what he needed and that there will be a contract and that she will remain with him until the baby is born. Jodi agreed to this and sign a contract. This had me disappointed because the synopsis was a little misleading for me.
The author gave Van’s family names, but the opposing side they had none. The whole book, excluding section location at 69% the author gave someone a name. The whole book Van kept saying the Jews or Albanians, names were never used to identify the bad guys.
There were other things that were cringy and kind of blocked my enjoyment. To conclude, I liked 40% of the book, but the remaining 60% was dominating enough to dominate the 40% I liked.
This is my second book by the author and the first book I opted out of reviewing because I did not finish most of the book. However, I just chop it up to maybe the author’s writing style, it’s not my cup of tea and that’s ok, to others it could be.
SEXUAL CHEMISTRY: Sex scenes weren’t an issue. I only wish I enjoyed the story more to really have that amazing connection to the characters.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: I like Enzo. Apart from that, not many stood out. Even though I don’t feel I mesh well with the author’s writing style, my interest was piqued to know how Enzo’s story will turn out.
OVERALL: Was I entertained? No, really Did I like the story? Yes and No If a series, would I read/continue with the other books in the series,? Not sure.
TRIGGERS: Drugged, violence, mention of race and how it was used.
NOTES: No ow/om drama
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
The way Jodi is described looks NOTHING like the woman on the cover of this book which is really bizarre. Jodi was so immature & simple minded. The author obsession with acting like all black women are undesirable anywhere they go doesn't gel with reality. The fixation on the women having pubic hair is so wild, you'll be hard pressed to find upwardly mobile black women that don't groom, especially because that demo is very much into that kind of self care. We talking about a late 20s-early 30s college educated black woman like let's be serious. The need to make them seem unkempt & out of shape just to drive home the point that because of this & being black of course no man wants them. Curvy black women get plenty of sexual attention. Too much in fact that makes them uncomfortable. You don't have to pretend they don't to sell these romances. Also this isnt the 1930s, this author acts like black women are so used to racism we expect it & aren't offended by it. That inaccurate & dumb. Stop it. Its like these stories are set in modern times but the black women act like they're in a civil war historical romance. It's time to evolve.
This was a torturous read. The lead male character, Van, pays for a surrogate to have his heir to fulfill his father's condition to become the Don. His specifications are not followed, and instead he gets Jodi, an African American full-figured woman. He apparently wants nothing to do with someone that looks like her, but he takes her to his mansion anyway. They negotiate, and all of a sudden, he is willing for her to surrogate his heir.
The entire story is filled with a lot of contradictory statements and scenarios, with a bunch of repetitive sex scenes. Little rhyme or reason. I kept reading because I wanted to give the story a chance to improve. No such luck. Just plain awful.
3.00 Stars. (BW/WM). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. Italian Mafia. Captor/Captive/Stockholm Syndrome. Mafia stories is one of my least favorite sub genre of romance novels; but I decided to give this series a try because it had Black American females as main characters. I enjoyed most of Jodie Rose and Giovanni "Van" Doukas' story. Van is next in line to be 'boss' of the Doukas mafia family and as such, he most kill whoever his father, the current 'boss' tells him to kill and he must now marry and produce an heir before he can ascend to leader status. Jodi is a single Black American traveling alone in Italy where she plans to remain as she escapes a failed relationship, an unfulfilling job and enormous student debt. During her stay, Jodi is befriended by a gay bartender and is convinced into going out clubbing. Ultimately, Jodi is introduced to Van's Greek cousin and is taken to the Doukas family club; by the end of the evening, Jodi witnesses a murder and signs a ten month surrogate agreement with Van. What I liked about this story: the sarcastic banter between Van and Jodi about race relations, their interaction with his pets and their mutually lustful sexy times. What I didn't like/ inconsistencies and nonsensical events: the persistent unappealing "fat girl" references to Jodi's body, Jodi's annoying complaints and insistence on following Van to dangerous situations, the lack of romancing between Jodi and Van, not explaining how Van's child with Jodi can be an heir when according to his father, a child born outside of marriage can not be an heir and finally, the forced ending, Van's sending Jodi and their child away and a few months later, he summarily goes to America, proposes marriage and bring them back to Italy.
I’m so tired of reading of low self esteem black women!
I’m so tired of reading stories of low self esteem, ugly, fat black women! The white women are beautiful, stunning, gorgeous but the black women are fat , ugly and no body want them! I sick of it! If you black women authors can only write black women as fat, ugly and black! Then save yourself the trouble with writing stories. Maybe you describe them as how you are! Black women are the most beautiful women on the planet! No more of how unattractive black women are because you are that way!
The storyline itself is good but the book is unrealistic and lacks character development. A lot of scenes are drawn out. Guy falls in love with and she plays hard to get. We don’t even get to read about the relationship blossoming or what characteristics he likes about her. The only thing we know is they have sex a lot and she complains a lot, there is no in between . This book lacks actual romance and compassion. There were so many inconsistencies in the story it was kind of hard to even get to know the characters.
This is a first...I DNF'd on page one when I read, "That idiot Jew was foolish enough to put his hands on her with witnesses and expect nothing to happen?" So did a search for the word Jew and found:
"If the Jew had any wits about him..." "I could bring honor back to our family, clean the streets of our scum, stop the fucking Jews from fucking with our shit..." "What would happen to our people, good Italian people, when the only people around they can get money from are the fucking Jews, who hate our guts?" "Because he's the brother you can when you have a drugged woman in the back of your car and you need to go kill a Jew." "As I slowly pick up more Italian, I understand more of Van's conversations than before and enough to know that his uncomfortable hatred of Jews isn't just racist (although it is racist) but born out of a decades long feud between families on the coast."
I read this after being told I would enjoy it by a coworker... I did not. Don't get me wrong, this wasn't all that bad but it also wasn't all that good. This is my first story from Jasper so I didn't have any expectations. The story starts off well enough and I was intrigued with Jodi and Van's relationship at the start but then it fizzles out quickly after. Van lives a dangerous life but nothing really happens... I mean even the situation with his nephew kinda just fizzles away. We hear a bit about Van's family but get nothing from Jodi's side- weird. This is part of a series but I honestly have no interest in reading the other books. My coworker read them all and I'll just ask her how the series ends.
Whoever said “ don’t judge a book by its cover “ was on to something. Because the covers of this series are absolutely HORRENDOUS. FIrst of all no one likes seeing real people on covers anyone. Secondly the people don’t even match the description of the book characters AT ALL. And the cover is just ugly. The book was pretty great though. But I will not be reading the rest of the series because I’m too embarrassed to scroll through my kindle read list and see the abomination that are these book covers. Someone else please bully this woman into fixing them.
I couldn’t finish this mess. It’s a bwwm. So it obvious who’s who. Why do I need to read.. “ let me see your black cunt?? Why?? It’s just not necessary. If it was a white h.. would u have the H say let me see ur white cunt??
Have you ever read a summary of a book and think. "Hmmm, you got my attention, but I'm not sure about you still." And think that the book isn't going to be all that. Then turn out surprise when you start reading it and find out it's much more.
Yeah that's what I got out of this book. I wasn't feeling the summary what's so ever. But still gave it a try since it peak my attention. And I'm glad I gave it a chance or I would never known how funny it is.
I found myself laughing a lot, and getting frustrated with the book. For one, it's Eddie and Kara. Eddie is a person who really needs to be put down. He's is a waste of sperm. And Kara needs to get slap a couple of times.
Now let me just say that they are not the main character of this book. But side characters that plays a role in the book. And from what I checked out Kara will have her own book and maybe Eddie will be in that one.
All I know is that boy needs to be put down. And hopefully Kara will learn her lesson on what Is acceptable. And being someone punching bag is not it.
Anyway let's talk about the actual main characters Van and his boo. Even this couple has there problems. But at least Van isn't putting hands on her. But the miscommunication between these two makes u want to slap them as well. Matter fact all the characters who are important should get smack. I get that Van is trying to do what's best for his family. But I agree with his younger brother Enzo that he should've done better when it came to talking. Which even he can't say anything, since Enzo needs to take his own advice as well.
Overall enjoy the book needed something to laugh about. And hopefully in the following books after this one. We can get a better understanding on what exactly was Eddie doing.
This was very good actually. Van was so perfect and such a wonderful hero. Soft for a boss but still ruthless yet with a conscience. Jodi was a wonderful strong educated and independent black woman. They were actually very compatible. This story was so different and so eye opener with the current race issue as a topic in a foreign place, Italy to be exact. Funny story was that not too long ago (November to be exact) my youngest daughter went to Italy and she came back flabbergasted as how she could feel the racism in the open; and now I am reading about it…😱😱. MS. Jasper did her research so thoroughly and I appreciate this. I wasn’t going to read the next book, Enzo’s story because in this book he was a prick, racist, immature, and a very bad person. He was not appealing at all but I feel to get to Matteo, I will have to go through this first, so let’s see how it goes. I surely hope I get some stories on Van and Jodi which will make it easier to read Enzo. Eddie needs to be taken care of asap. Wished we had more on Paolo and Edo as well as Cass and Ana but we will see….
Jamilia did amazing with this story. The characters were believable and not overly dramatic. I could definitely see myself in Jodi, however she was definitely a unique character. Van was described deliciously even though I kept calling him Gio in my head (Does that make me weird?) Anyway even Enzo grew on me towards the end. I have never been to Italy (definitely a bucket list item) but I've fallen in love with the country. As an avid reader I'm surprisingly just now really being introduced to this genre (I've read a couple of interracial books but definitely not many), but the few I've read have always been not quite right. I usually don't connect with the characters and the plot normally feels cheesy. I keep trying because I want to see myself in the FMC and I honestly love paranormal and mafia romances. Kudos to you Jamilia! I can't wait to read more of your work!!!
It had all of the elements of a good book but.... I can't put my finger in it, something was missing. Anytime the cover of the book, doesn't match the description of the characters that's a irritant. She a plus side girl, but were never really know her size. She had locs. Look at the cover of the book. Ok, anyway, Jodi the away from the life that she had in the states because her boyfriend at the time cheated in her it dumped her.... I'm not sure. The plan is to hide out in Italy until her money runs out. The only Peej that she interacts with is the bartender, who sounds like a scammer. Her introduced her to a friend who drugs her and gives her to Van. She witnessed Van and two others kill a man. Me presents her with this proposition. She accepts. They fall in love. The end. Character development is lacking. Sex scenes are on point. Storyline was ok. Plot was ok.
Van needed an heir and so he needed someone ASAP so he could wed them, bed them, and make things happen for an ASAP baby, but what he requested isnt what he ended up with, but Van will learn that evidently, his cousin knew what he really needed more than he realized. Jodi Rose was just in Italy having a getaway and wanting to enjoy the time that she was there, but befriending a greek cost her more than she realized but then she didnt want to give up the man even when she realized that he was about that life. The chemistry between them is strong prompting very graphic sex scenes. it seems the author Jamilia Jasper is a very naughty naughter girl or she does some intense research LOL
A story about an African American woman basically running from her problems at home with a solo trip to Italy. As the title conveys, she's kidnapped and forced into a surrogacy contract. I was annoyed with how easily she gave in, but it's fiction so it happens. I needed a distraction during a long road trip and this story (annoying as it was at times) definitely provided that. If you're into Mafia romances with pregnancy included... this is a book for you.
Another brilliant book by this author!! Italian men this tine, and I'm loving them!! Sexy as all hell, and stunningly goid-looking, Can is oh so hot!! Jodi is a sexy, feisty beautiful woman, and gives as good as she gets with Van! Their insane chemistry just burns the pages uo!! I tell you, I had to have the fan in many tines, just to cook diwn, after reading the insanely hot and steamy bedroom scenes!! I can't wait to read the next one in this series, and hope it's as good as this one!!
Jamila Jasper did an excellent job with this book. I loved this book. I was angry because the Italian’s weren’t used to seeing Black people and therefore didn’t want to have anything to do with them. But Van needed an heir in order to take over the family business. Van trusted his niece, Cass, to follow his directions on the kind of woman he wanted but she did just the opposite and found Jodi, who was visiting the Amalfi Coast…and Jodi is Black. Beware, this book is hilarious AND also a tear jerker as well! Great read.
I liked this book this book was very interesting had a lot of action and it just tells you the life will be both and how some people has life of violence but it was good though it was a good book you You can turn this book away and not read it you have to see what's going on next and what's gonna happen in that and make you mad at the character And make you smile it makes me say That's what I have to do Good book
So, it started off incredibly unbelievable. However, because it’s fiction, Ms. Jasper is allowed some creative liberties. Once it got going, character and plot development was great. Van know he loves himself some Jodi Rose. I love the way, neither of them held back their love for each other. No one did anything dumb and the heroine held her own against the alpha male. It was a really good read.
It was well written besides the plot holes. The spice was amazing and I loved the mentions of leaving the coochie in its natural state, it was a progressive move and made the spice more realistic. I did hate how much race/racism was brought up in this book it threw me off and I stopped several times due to the comments made in the novel. The female lead was ok and the male lead was decently written. I would’ve love a lot more background to their lives but otherwise I freaks wit it. 7/10
Drugged, kidnapped and forced to be a surrogate for a mafia underboss is the setting for a most erotic love story! He didn’t want love only an heir so he pays his Greek cousin to get him a surrogate, but she chooses an unlikely candidate-an American African American with curves in just the right places. Will the male Italians in his family accept her especially his father… well he wanted an heir!🦋
This book has every element that I enjoy, humor, sex, love, and violence. The chemistry between Van and Jodi was off the charts. I loved Jodi 's strength. Even though she knew Van was in the mob, she didn't shrink. She stood toe to toe with him. I also enjoyed watching Van's growth when he allowed himself to truly open up to love. You will enjoy reading about their love story.
This story was good but a bit different from other one s. Lots of racial remarks and attitudes. It was a book that kept me going to the next page. I have two questions I would like to be answered 1.will Mateo come down off the mountain. And what is up with that 18 year old nephew.
I usually don’t have much to say when I finish a book, it with this one I surprisingly liked it. Why? I don’t read a bunch of mafioso type books and even then they are usually not interracial. So now I have a new favorite series. Thank you Ms. Jasper.
This was an okay read. I don't understand why Jodi wanted to go everywhere Van went like she is really tough to fight the mafia. And why do we need to read about Jodi's pubic hair with cum on it? Disgusting. A hairy bush is not sexy or worth writing about.
Well the physical acts were hot! I’m not quite sure if I understood exactly how the trafficking and Aspen ties in but overall it was a good read. She accepted the nature of the relationship with out too much resistance and that didn’t exactly align with who she became.
I need a Van in my life....but on the other hand I loved this, Jodi was annoying after the pregnancy. Constantly wanting to put herself in situations that were dangerous and none of her business. I was like over her antics and arguing with him about everything. Overall a good read
