When he looked at me again, there was wicked amusement in his black eyes. “No, sweet thing. I will not be satisfied with a week of service.” “What, then?” I asked, unable to keep the pleading note from my voice. “What else do you want?” He gave me a long, calculating look. I suppressed a shudder as every cell in my body lit up with awareness under his predatory stare. “One night,” he finally said.
Lithely, like a stalking panther, Kurt walked the few steps to the edge of my bed. He reached out to curl his fingers around my chin, and my breath hitched in my throat. “What a pretty little mortal I’ve bought,” he whispered. There was no softness in his voice, nor in his gaze as he flicked it from my lips to my eyes.

“When you lose yourself to me, there is nothing to hide behind. No pretense. Just you and your little cunt surrendering to a monster."
Whatever Kore was, owning her would be his goal, because he was a creature who claimed and discarded. He didn’t borrow, ask, or wait, and hated having to be granted the permission. But he’d captured her want. For the next hour, she was at his mercy.
No one would take what she did not give. Not ever again. Nothing could tempt her. Nothing. Not a male with an incredible body. Not the promise of respite from loneliness. Not momentary pleasure. She was Binda, gardener of the Burn, and her soul was her own. She knew where she came from and where she was going.
Submit. That word was a constant. Every chase, every night, all came down to his insistence that she submit. She never would.
She stroked her thumb across his cheek, memories assailing her. Her love for him hadn’t changed. Her desire to have him hadn’t waned. Damn it, she’d missed him. Now she was holding him, and she had a chance to keep him. “It’s real, though,” she told him. “Something about these dreams follows me back.”
