Sophie Carell is making a name for herself and it is not on the stage or screen where she once planned a career. Accepting the cursed glasses bequeathed by her Great Aunt Daphne that gave her the gift of clairvoyance, Sophie has helped Detective Murdoch Ashcroft close several cases and her skills are in demand.
But Sophie has to decide - will she continue auditioning and acting, or will she fill Great Aunt Daphne's shoes, including helping to solve the cold case mysterious death of a beauty queen?
Trouble brews around Sophie as her protector, the handsome and powerful, Lukas Lens, is not sure he can fulfil his role, and the brooding Detective Murdoch Ashcroft looms as her potential enemy.
Friends and enemies cross lines in the second volume of The Clairvoyant's Glasses.

Sophie Carell was with Detective Murdoch Ashcroft as they worked to solve the child kidnapping case. Sophie wore the glasses she'd inherited from Great Aunt Daphne, which made her able to see visions around the people she was talking to; investigating; or who were asking her questions. Solving that case swiftly saw Murdoch's superior - who was due to retire soon - ask Sophie to help him solve a cold case from thirty years prior. He wanted to leave his career with the job done.
In the meantime, Sophie's protector, Lukas Lens, was uncertain in his role. His grandfather - Alfred - was his advisor and Sophie trusted him as he was able to calm any stressful situation. With Lukas under pressure from two sides, he knew he had to make a decision. But when the powerful met, sparks were sure to fly!
The Clairvoyant's Glasses: Time Has a Shadow is the 2nd in The Clairvoyant's Glasses series by Aussie author Helen Goltz and I loved it! Fun and entertaining, I laughed out loud on several occasions. Sophie is the perfect character - strong, courageous, determined and compassionate. I'm looking forward to #3 soon. Highly recommended.
I had to go back to 2016 to revisit my review of the fist book in this series to refresh my memory. Six years between book #1 and book #2 is a bit of a wait but I remember liking it a lot, and it’s slowly coming back to me as I read book two, although it seems a lot of this book is devoted to covering the backstory…which is understandably necessary. There are quite a few characters to get to know, some from past generations, though they are so well developed that they are mostly easy to remember. I was fortunate to be able to recall a few of them from book one. So, I believe new readers would be better equipped if they read book one first, I really think it will be more enjoyable to have both books to look forward to.
When Sophie Carell’s beloved Great Aunt Daphne died, Sophie expected to inherit her beautiful estate including house and property. So you can imagine her utter disappointment when she discovered Daphne’s only legacy to her favorite Great Niece was her worn old pair of glasses. However these were not just any old pair of glasses as Sophie was soon to find out.
Daphne was a very well respected Clairvoyant who worked from her large historical home/office. She had a reputation for her very accurate readings and a VIP client waiting list to rival any. Daphne’s secret was in her glasses, when she wore them she could read people…with a few well placed particular questions, Daphne could “see” things around her clients which told her what she needed to know. Soon Sophie would also discover the secret of the glasses and use them to help police solve some of their tough cases.
With help from her extended family, Sophie begins to learn some of her family history and her own important place in a long line of Clairvoyants, Witches, Shapeshifters and, well…you will soon find out the extent of her unique lineage.
Sophie always had her heart set on an acting career and..much to her Aunt’s distress…was adamant she would not follow in her Great Aunt’s footsteps. However, after trying out the glasses and helping out the police with great success, Sophie feels she could play a more important role in life and ultimately decides to make the important decision to follow her Great Aunt’s wishes. From that moment everything starts to change for Sophie…new doors begin to open for her and big surprises are in store.
Settle in for some great adventures readers! This is a very well considered and elaborate storyline which has an added element of quirkiness and fun…there is the added bonus of some very funny laugh out loud moments throughout!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book [#2] as well as the 1st book and look forward to more in this series, which I think has a lot of potential ahead of it for future volumes.
Things I liked: *I Love the new covers!
Things I would like: *It would be nice if a generational family history chart were included in future volumes as a ready reference reminder of who is who. A family tree.
I would happily recommend this series for lovers of good light hearted paranormal mysteries!
4⭐️ + 💫s. I took off half a star for typographical errors which should have been easy to notice during editing.
Not as fast paced as book 1 but still very interesting. Sophie is gaining experience and confidence, and assists a detective on the verge of retiring in solving a 30 year old cold case. And Sophie gets thwarted time after time as her protectors withhold information about her predecessors. But, she is a determined young woman, things are going to come to a head. Interesting book. On to book 3.
I liked the first book better because it was more straightforward police work. This second one dug into witches and their convoluted history too much. I just got tired of the to and from. HOWEVER, I liked the set up at the abrupt end when the new protector is chosen.
Witches curses, a missing child, a 30 year old cold case, an explosive situation and family feuds kept me turning the pages of this book all night. The Clairvoyant's Glasses is a powerful story. I am impatiently looking forward to Volume 3!
Quirky premise, likeable characters, story paced well, Sophie grew a lot in this book as her journey gently unfolded. Received as a complimentary copy from the author in return for an honest review.
Wow, that was a magnificent ending! No spoilers, I won't say another word about that. Start to finish, great book! I'll be starting the next right off, but when that's done??? No idea how I'm going to wait for the 4th to be written!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, so far the series has been excellent. All of the characters have surprises you don’t expect and the twists are very good! On to read the next. Thanks Helen Goltz for the adventure!
The Clairvoyant's Glasses has turned into a series and this is book two called Time has a Shadow.
Sophie Carell has accepted her fate as a clairvoyant and it appears she is a very powerful one. Who should be her protector becomes a debatable issue, and Detective Murdoch Ashcroft turns out to be much more than he seems. There is a lot of magic flying around - pun intended because there are lots of birds in the story and they are very significant. Sophie's own abilities are amazing.
I enjoyed the magic, the characters and the clever story line. The author writes really well and the pages turn themselves. Highly recommended and I have the next book ready on my Kindle
