Raise your hand if you’ve ever been stupid enough to fall in love with your best friend.

It’s not my fault. I was perfectly happy to keep my budding feelings to myself until the ‘kiss’.

Now, all I can think about is how good River smells and tastes. How it would feel to have his hands on my body.

Too bad convincing a player who doesn’t believe in love to take a chance on me is more difficult than succumbing to his charm and ending up in his bed. Oops.

Lucky for me, I have the entire town of Winter Falls on my side. The residents of this kooky small town think they’re the world’s answer to matchmaking. Match away, Winter Falls. Match away!

With their help, maybe I can convince River there’s more to us than friendship because this chemistry between us doesn’t lie.

This friends to lovers small town romantic comedy features an awkward woman who sprouts sexual innuendos on accident when she’s nervous, a player who thinks love exists for everyone in the world except him, a pair of sisters who don’t understand the word ‘privacy’, and a whole town of hippies convinced they’re the best matchmakers this side of the Mississippi.

Meet Not is a standalone novel in the Winter Falls ~ Dempsey Sisters series.

Favorite Quotes:

I’m happy for Gabrielle, but it turns out you can be happy for someone and be consumed by jealousy at the same time.

Whatever happened in college must be embarrassing. My older sister doesn’t have a problem sharing her adventures unless she comes out sounding like a fool.

My Review:

This series is so much fun I can’t wait to start the next one. An environmentally green town founded by hippies and populated by endearingly odd and eccentric characters that love to match-make, banter, and place bets on each other. But all that is happening while fledgling romances are starting to sizzle and pop. I am enamored with them all and must clear my calendar to catch up with all the quirky denizens as I am currently suffering from a serious case of FOMO!

MEET NOT By D.E. Haggerty

River does not believe in Love but is super attracted to his Best Friend Elizabeth.

😊What i liked -

✔ Best Friends to Lovers/Small Town/Rom-Com.
✔ OMG I was swooning over River and Elizabeth's first kiss and the kisses that followed.
✔ In this book I was total team Elizabeth. Even though she has her own set of insecurities, it does not stop her from going after what she wants.
✔ The Gossip Gals and the West sister's strike again. They are a hilarious bunch.( huh where can i find them?)
✔ I was tripping over Beckett's overprotectiveness and Lilac's straightforwardness.
✔ Even though I was frustrated with their on and off relationship, this book had me swooning and laughing all the way.

🤔What could have been better -

✔ Oh god end made me want to fling my kindle across the room (then i remembered how much it cost), I wanted more.

📚Who Should read :

Another trip to Winter Falls that does not disappoint. In this book, we get a front-row seat to Elizabeth and River's love dance. There is a strong attraction between the two, but River doesn't believe in love. That is until he meets Elizabeth, and she sets him straight (eventually).

As with all of the other books, it is chock full of nosey neighbors, sexual innuendos (and even some not so innuendo!), quirky characters, witty dialogue, and a HEA. The gossip girls, aka matchmakers, don't mess around and will do whatever it takes to pair up the young people of the town. They thought they were done until the Dempsey sisters came to town. Now they have some new people to wreak havoc on their lives.

While the story focuses on Elizabeth and River, we do see some continuing storylines with all of the other characters. So while you could read this on its own, it will be better read in order so that you have a sense of the townspeople and their background, and of course, how the town works since it is carbon neutral.

I enjoyed how the story delves into Elizabeth and River's past and what holds them back, especially River. It takes time to unwind his fears, but it does happen. You'll have to read the book to discover more.

The only issue I had was at the very beginning because the first chapter or two is a repeat of the previous book. It is setting the stage for Elizabeth and River's story, but I thought I had picked up a book I had already read. Once I realized what was going on, I was able to continue and put it all into perspective.

There are two more Dempsey sisters and I can't wait to read their stories. Cassandra is next!

We give this book 4 1/2 paws.

Oh how I love Winter Falls with it's kooky characters and it's quaint traditions, founded many years ago by a hippy group it is the only completely eco friendly town. I love the matchmaking gossip girls in their pink jumpers, I love the betting on everything and anything, I love Forrest running around trouserless, I love how it is considered normal for everyone to know everything about everybody, I love how all the families are intermingled and most of all I love the banter and sometimes hilarious arguments.

This is Elizabeth and River's story, Elizabeth Dempsey's sister, Gabrielle had met the love of her life at Winter Falls, one of the handsome Alston brothers, Elizabeth was hoping to move there and set up a spa which she had always dreamed of doing.

River Alston, player extraordinaire and the only one of the Alston brothers not to come into the clutches of the matchmaking gossip girls, he was now in their sights. River had no intention of settling down, he didn't want a relationship, he didn't want a wife and he didn't want children, he was quite happy with his one night stands………..until Elizabeth.

Elizabeth had fallen head over heels for River and he was very attracted to her (he didn't believe in love ) but not enough for a relationship and Elizabeth wasn't a one night stand girl, the solution was that they would remain best friends…………… this was never going to work.

This story follows the journey of Elizabeth and River to find their HEA.

This is a standalone book but if you haven't already, I would really urge reading this, and the previous series, in sequence to get the most enjoyment and the most laughs, you won't be disappointed.

The bearded player with the lopsided smile is not falling for the girl with hearts in her eyes. They can be friends, but they will never be more. Even if he can’t resist stealing kisses every chance he gets.

It's cute River thinks he can escape love - especially when I'm around. I'll take care of him.

But, seriously, I loved writing this friends to lovers romance. Even if it was harder than I thought it would be. I persisted and Meet Not launches today! YEAH!

Book 2 in the Dempsey Sisters series did not disappoint.
It follows on neatly from Gabrielle & Phoenix’s story, with enough back story to fill in the blanks for new readers.

Elizabeth Dempsey’s first meeting with River Alston is enough for her to know that he’s a player, and much as she is attracted to him, knows that if she was to be involved with him, he would break her heart. So begins their “will they, won’t they” story.

Elizabeth & River agree to be best friends to each other, and all bets are on that they will become “Friends to Lovers”

The Dempsey, West, and Alston families are all related through marriage, and, because the majority live in Winter Falls, Colorado, that is where the action is. They do not hesitate to stick their noses into each other’s business, along with the townspeople of Winter Falls.

I really enjoyed how the townspeople play their part in this story, as they are quirky and unpredictable, as well as entertaining, warm and familiar.

All the characters are well drawn, and they continue to hold my interest.
I found this to be an emotional rollercoaster of a story, with laugh out loud moments, along with the angst. It led nicely into the next book, the only down side to which is the wait I will have to endure before it is published.

Another Dempsey sister matched! Elizabeth and River found their HEA!
(although the Gossip Gals weren't entirely responsible for this one).

Don't know who they are? Dig in, and catch up! :)

This is absolutely adorable, as all the reads based in Winter Falls. While this is part of a spin off series, it can be read as a stand-alone, if you need to start here. The author provides a reader plenty of information, so even a new reader will feel connected. Although - I would STRONGLY suggest, [once you're done with this one] that you read all the books related to Winter Falls. Totally funny, with good character banter and relationships, and are easy reads - full of quirky townspeople in a carbon neutral town.

I absolutely love the community these characters live in, and enjoy my time in Winter Falls (maybe) a little more than I should. *wink* I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this one, and am happily leaving my review. Can't wait to see the next sister find her match.

So after reading all the West sister books and the first two in this series I’ve come to the conclusion that all of these books are so very similar except there’s different characters. For some reason the words “I’m sorry” are not in the vocabulary of the men in these books. Seriously I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of them apologize for being an asshole. They just say “I was an asshole” and the girl forgives them without much work. The same could be said for this book. I honestly didn’t like River. He was an asshole to Elizabeth soo many times and yet she forgave him each time like it was no big deal. Also, the whole first half of the book River talks about how he’s not going to sleep with Elizabeth and then he accidentally grabs her boob and then all of a sudden they are hot and heavy? It was such an awkward transition and I actually almost stopped reading at that point.

Next up is Cassandra but this author has made her sooo annoying in all of the other books I don’t think I’m going to read her book. She’s rude and immature and I don’t particularly find her likable.

Another five star read by D E Haggerty and a visit to Winter Falls and it's colourful residents.

Love the Winter Falls series and this was no exception.

The second book in the Dempsey sister's series had me laughing out loud.It is full of lots of situations which make you laugh,a few tears, interfering family and residents.

This is Elizabeth and River's best friends to lover's story. They are best friends, but Elizabeth wants more and River does not as he has been burned in the past and doesn't believe in love and fairytales, even though his brother's have found love.

When he ends up kissing Elizabeth the sparks just fly and it gets very complicated between them.Add in his family, her family, the gossip gals and the whole town of Winter Falls cheering them on to get together it is a losing battle.

I loved both the main characters and it was heartwarming when they did reach their happily ever after. The embarrassing situations Elizabeth gets into and the women chasing River and the shenanigans of the residents just made it a very enjoyable read.Loved how all the previous couples from the Winter Falls series also appear in all the books.

Very highly reccomend and i cannot wait to read the next book in the series Cassandra's story.

Meet Not is River and Elizabeth's story. Elizabeth is the the second Dempsey sister to become involved with a Winter Falls man.

River and Elizabeth are friends who constantly spend all their time together, hold hands but refuse to take anything further because of fear. Until a kiss that changes everything and sends their friendship into a tailspin. They clearly love each other but something about the stubbornness of the town rubs off on them and they can't seem to get their act together.

River is a player and does not want to settle down - or so he tells himself. He's happy playing the field and will not get involved with anyone who lives in town. Elizabeth is working on opening a spa in Winter Falls and has definitely become part of the community so this leaves her firmly in River's "friend-zone." Elizabeth sees what her friends and family have in their relationships and wants that for herself. The rest of the town can clearly see they belong together and shenanigans ensue.

I love Winter Falls, since all of the books are fun and entertaining. Reading the series in order is recommended to keep track of all of the recurring characters. Elizabeth is one of Beckett’s sisters. She’s planning to move from a nearby community to the little, quirky town of Winter Falls, Colorado, to start a salon business. River is the hottest single bachelor in Winter Falls (readers met his brothers Lyric and River in earlier books). River doesn’t believe in love or date local women to avoid romantic complications. River and Elizabeth form a close friendship. Despite a strong attraction, River is determined to keep Elizabeth in the friend zone. He doesn’t want a relationship and definitely has no interest in a future family. Meanwhile, Elizabeth doubts her own ability to attract a player like River. She also is hoping for a family someday. This story has entertaining banter, adult heat, and the constant presence of Winter Falls’ quirky, interfering characters as River and Elizabeth figure out their HEA. The dual points of view offer insights into the characters’ vulnerability and their struggles with commitment. The story is a wonderful addition to the series. While Cassandra and Ashlyn kind of got on my nerves (and in real life I probably WOULD have slapped them), I could so put myself in Elizabeth’s shoes. Players are popular because they are so smooth and attractive and that describes River to a T. Her decision to live with being just a friend was pretty painful, especially in a small town where opportunities to find someone else to love are few. Despite the pain, her decision to stick to her guns on children made me so proud of her. River WAS being immature and obtuse, not only about his feelings on relationships but on how cavalier he was of Elizabeth’s feelings. He certainly didn’t show much care for what he said every time there was a change in their relationship. Lots of CYA. Thank goodness he wised up. Read this all in one day. A 4-tissue read. All the feels!

This is the second book in The Dempsey Sisters series and I am loving this series. Elizabeth and River were best of friends until she realized she wanted more. Elizabeth is set on opening her own spa in Winter Falls that is noted to be the first all green town. Her brother Beckett had raised her and her sisters after their parents were in an accident when they were young. Beckett is very protective of all of them. Loved the scene where the guys jumped into the falls when it was so cold.

Then you have the matchmaker group of ladies that are also into major gossiping. The whole town knew every little thing that Elizabeth would do including spending the night with River. Elizabeth knew she always wanted a house with a picket fence and children. Can she get River the ladies man to change and become a married family man?

The banter between the sisters and brothers in this series is awesome.

River’s playboy ways are no match to the wiles of the Winter Falls Gossip Gals

Meet Not (Winter Falls - Dempsey Sisters Book 2) by D.E. Haggerty is a wonderful romcom that brings Winter Falls playboy, River, to his knees. But the brazen Gossip Gals have no mercy and Elizabeth gets swept up in hope they just might provide. Elizabeth has fallen hard for her best friend, River, but he wants nothing to do with a relationship let alone marriage and family. The reasons are a mystery until Elizabeth finally gets River to spill.
Hopes are dashed just when the going gets good!
Overall, River gets over his idiocy and realizes life is nothing without his Elizabeth. He wins Elizabeth back in true romcom, Winter Falls grand gesture style. Another one bites the dust, it’s mission accomplished for the Gossip Gals and on to the next Dempsey sister.

Meet Not by D.E. Haggerty

I love Winter Falls :) The people, the festivities, the green approach, everything. I was looking forward to River and Elisabeth's story, and it was everything I was hoping it would be. Though, I’m a little bit sad for River. He got molded. He was so refreshingly different than all the other Alstons, Wests, and Dempseys for almost the entirety of the book, but he ended up molded, coerced even into being just the same as everybody else in this extended family. He had so strong convictions and a firm view of life, and I felt almost sorry when he yielded eventually. But I’m a sucker for a HEA, so I’m glad he did. I liked Elizabeth for staying true to her dreams. But I really warmed for her when it appeared she didn’t need a grand gesture.

I love the quirky town of Winter Falls and all the characters that we get to see in all the subsequent books. River is a player who doesn't believe in love. Elizabeth just wants the American dream of having her own family to raise after loosing her own parents as a child. When Elizabeth's heart gets stuck on River can she figure out why he's so against love and convince him to have a real relationship with her? River has to watch out for her overprotective big brother and they are both going to have to put up with the meddling of the elderly "Gossip Gals" as well as their siblings (most of whom we've gotten to know through previous books). The story may be a touch cliché but the humor makes it all worth it! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Laugh Out Loud Fun Returning To Quirky Winter Falls

Elizabeth is the second of the Dempsey sisters to find love in Winter Falls and her story does not disappoint. Of course the West sisters, Alston brothers and her family get involved as do the "Gossip Girls" and the town's "Betting Brigade". Needless to say all of that just added to the fun of Elizabeth and River figuring out their own "best friends" to "friends with benefits"? to more? story. The book had witty dialog, zany characters, steam, angst, supportive but nosy families and friends all of which added to the fun. It is part of both the Winter Falls West Sisters and Dempsey Sisters series, and can definitely be read as a standalone, but all of the books are available on KU if you have it and fun to read in order for the full history and complete picture of the people and the town. Enjoy!

As with all of the Winter Falls books that I've read, Meet Not is a fun, romantic story!!

Elizabeth has been attracted to River since she first met him, and while he thinks she's beautiful, River knows that he's not a relationship kind of guy. Serious long-term romantic relationships are just not his thing so he's got Elizabeth in a friend zone, just where he wants her to be!!

The matchmaking busybodies of Winter Falls have something to say about that and will stop at nothing to turn their friendship into more!!

The Winter Falls series are the absolute best - with each book, we get to know the characters that we've already fallen in love with even better and learn more about the characters that we know are going to get their own books soon!!! Carry on D.E. Haggerty. I need more!!

This is the second book in the Dempsey Sisters series and it also ties into the Winter Falls series. You can enjoy it as a standalone but there may be some spoilers of the previous books. I loved my visit to Winter Falls, the residents never fail to make me laugh. River and Elizabeth's story is a rollercoaster ride for sure. River is stubborn and has convinced himself that love doesn't exist for him. He's been happily bouncing from one nightstand to another but when his best friend Elizabeth moves to town, he has a hard time keeping his thoughts from straying into non best friend territory. Elizabeth would love it if River would see her as more than a friend but she's been friend zoned, could one kiss change everything. Looking forward to Cassandra's story.

This is the second book in the series. The next Dempsey sister is up. This was a great friends to lovers romance. River is a playboy who thinks love is not for him. Elizabeth is all about finding love and making a family. These two friends have an attraction brewing just below the surface. They're so cute together! They have a solid friendship that I'm envious of. I love Elizabeth's quirk. It makes for some comedic moments. I so love being back in Winter Falls. Those West sisters are up to there awesome ways in this one. Plus the Gossip Gals are up to their shenanigans once again. This was the book I so needed right now. I needed all the laughs this one gave me because life is being rather hard at the moment. This book also has plenty of heart and feels as well. I'm already looking forward to the next book in the series.

Absolutely brilliant... loved it!!
I received an ARC copy of this fantastic book from the author and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
This book is one of the best that I have read in quite a while. I absolutely throughly enjoyed reading this book from start to finish, I just couldn't put it down.
I love the West and Dempsey Sisters plus the Gossip Gals!
This is River and Elizabeth's hilarious and heartwarming story.
River is absolutely petrified of falling in love and resists every attempt to not let Elizabeth get too close, she's his best friend and he doesn't want to hurt her or loose her friendship.
Brilliant storyline, amazing characters and absolutely loved the HEA.
I can't even begin to imagine how good Cassandra and Cedar's story will be!!

I’ve been enjoying the Dempsey sisters series because we get to see Winter Falls from a non-local and the girls all have their different personalities that add to the craziness of Winter Falls.

This story was about River whose the womanizer of Winter Falls, the playboy who doesn’t want to settle down. Which, everyone knows this, including Elizabeth, his best friend. I’m a sucker for a friends to lovers story. Dena did great with this one. The connection between and River and Elizabeth is electrifying!

Not only does Dena create wonderful and memorable characters, she does great building a new world for you to visit. Never a dull moment in Winter Falls and I can’t wait to visit again.

Winter Falls never disappoints! Meet Not was the second book in Dena’s Winter Falls - Dempsey Sisters series. It had all the swoon, sweetness, and of course laughs!

Elizabeth had somehow recently found herself in the friend zone. She was OK with it until her kiss with River turned her world upside down. Would she be able to get back to being friends or would their entire friendship blow up in their faces?

I still want to move to Winter Falls! The world Dena created with these amazing characters has me wanting to pack my bags!! I loved getting to see what everyone was up to and that the shenanigans never stop! River and Elizabeth had such a cute relationship that thankfully grew to much more! I can’t wait to see more of them in the future!

Elizabeth and River’s story
Another romantic comedy set in the quirky town of Winter Falls. And this is seriously funny, it will have you laughing out loud from start to finish (I lolled for the first time on the second page) but Ms. Haggerty manages to weave into the antics of the Winter Falls townsfolk the story of how River accomplishes putting his player days in the rear view forming first, a friendship, and then falling completely - with some serious denial along the way - for Elizabeth, who describes herself as a red headed, plain Jane. It's a rocky path to their HEA as we go through their ups and downs, all the starts and stops, and plenty of sexy times, threatened fights, and gossip girl mayhem.
A thoroughly enjoyable addition to the series.

Winter Falls never fails to entertain! Love this crazy town this author has created. Love the characters and each of their stories and this book 2 of the Dempsey sisters doesn’t disappoint. All the kooky players are in rare form once again. Elizabeth is the next one the gossip gals have set their sights on match making and River is determined not to be caught. But keeping Elizabeth in the best friend zone is not working out so well. They have a bumpy ride but it’s worth it. Loved this next chapter of Winter Falls. Back in Winter Falls, a quirky environmentally conscious town, we are told the story of Elizabeth, a sister of Beckett Dempsey who we meet in Ms. Haggerty's first set of novels set in Winter Falls and River, whose brother is married to Beckett's sister in law. River and Elizabeth are friends, and become friends with benefits. The Gossip Girls, a group of matchmakers, have their sights set on River and Elizabeth, but both have previous obstacles that they must overcome and River must decide if he is ready for a real relationship with Elizabeth.

As always, I got sucked into the world of Winter Falls and could not put this book down. It was a long journey, we even went back to a few events we've seen in other books. But River has long held beliefs about him and love so it wouldn't be a quick journey from them meeting, to best friends, to falling in love and him accepting what that means for them and their future. A future he had told himself for a decade he didn't want, even though that was a lie. Seriously wonderful. I always love this town and all the inhabitants.

Time for another visit to quirky Winter Falls, where the Gossip Gals ensure everyone knows everything and the betting is as hot as the romance!

Elizabeth and River have become best friends. Only problem? Elizabeth’s totally in love with him and wants marriage, babies, and the perfect house, while he’s committed to his player lifestyle. Can they finally give a relationship a chance?

This book was such a great read! I wanted to throw things at River a few times for being a jerk, but he finally got his stuff together! Cassandra and Cedar are up next! Can’t wait to see what chaos they’ll get up to!

Another lovely addition to the Winter Falls collection.

I’ve absolutely loved every novel in D.E. Haggerty’s Winter Falls series and Meet Not does not disappoint.

I feel like Elizabeth is a character everyone can relate to in their own way and she is written absolutely perfectly. And, of course, River is a swoon-worthy hunk who you’re sure to fall in love with.

Sprinkle in gossiping old ladies, overbearing siblings and the West sisters, this is a love story made to make you laugh and beg for more.

Winter Falls is a small quant town where everyone knows everyone’s business. We also have the matchmaker women that are always betting. Elizabeth and River started out as best friends but she certainly wanted more than that. Elizabeth has feelings for River but he isn’t interested in any kind of relationship. He is a player and always enjoyed one night stands. That was before he got to know just how special Elizabeth is. Will she be able to change his opinion and will he be willing to give romance with her a chance.
