I'm a huge SQC fan, she's one of my favorite cnovel authors despite how dogblood her novels are 🤣 (or maybe precisely because her novels are dogblood lol). This is like the rest of her crematorium novels - you have a scum gong, Qu Moyu, who treated Shen Dai, the shou, horribly, and goes through a lot to chase him.

Not gonna lie, I didn't like this as much as some of her other ones like Blood Crown, Wu Chang Jie, and Professional Body Double. I just find Qu Moyu too unlikeable compared to the scum gongs in her other novels. I think my favorite thing about her stories is that her shou characters are always so likeable and Shen Dai is no exception. Whereas in Professional Body Double, I could see why Zhou Xian kept giving second chances to Yan Mingxiu and was still hung up over Yan Mingxiu despite his abusive behavior, I disliked Qu Moyu from the start. So I couldn't really fully enjoy the crematorium. Oh well.

Hope she writes more novels, I do love her stories. She writes melodramatic, messy and toxic relationships so well 🤣

Hoy revivió la literatura. Te amo, Alpha Predator. 💜

This was the second 188 series novel I read, with the first being Beloved Enemy. While I enjoyed that one, I must admit that I found this story even more compelling, perhaps because I have a particular fondness for omegaverse tales. 😂 As expected, the novel was a bit twisted, featuring a veritable crematorium of characters. It was reminiscent of a Chinese family drama, with members scheming and plotting against one another, each hoping to emerge victorious.

While some of the scenes were a tad over-the-top, I believe the author's intention was to emphasize just how dire the situation was. I also enjoyed encountering characters from other 188 novels; it was like finding a treasure at the end of the rainbow. Despite the moments of dog blood, I found the novel thoroughly engrossing.

I must admit, for most of the novel, I despised Qu Moyu. He was incredibly disrespectful toward "his" omega, and I couldn't view any of their smut scenes as consensual. They all felt like rape to me, except for the final one. I could empathize with Shen Dai's reluctance and residual pain. The majority of the novel left me feeling angry and heartbroken.

However, the character development for Alpha Predator was truly exceptional. I could barely recognize Qu Moyu and Shen Dai by the end of the novel, but their transformations were so well-executed that it felt like a natural progression. The story served as a reminder that "Men are from Mars, women are from Venus," and that it's not always easy for an alpha to understand an omega, or vice versa. This is similar to how men and women often misunderstand one another in real life. Furthermore, the novel underscored the importance of parenting in shaping a child's growth and worldview; the way parents raise their children can have a significant butterfly effect.

To sum it up, Alpha Predator was a novel of bittersweet love story that made me feel intense angst for both the ML and the MC. Despite the story being set in an omegaverse, the life lessons that can be noted from the novel can be applied to reality as well. This is a good crematorium novel read. One that won’t only bring its readers to a different point of view but would also enlighten them with life lessons that were subtly insinuated in the story.

Note: A light warning. Don’t read the translator’s notes after every end of the chapters if you don’t want to read spoilers.

This was less toxic compared to others in the series imo, I picked it up mainly because of the groveling aspect and the Omegaverse setting. Unfortunately, I never warmed up to the male lead. While the MC made him suffer in the end, it didn’t feel satisfying.

The relationship between the two leads lacked chemistry for me. There was unrequited love from the MC’s side, an arranged marriage, and plenty of misunderstandings, but even after everything was resolved, I just didn’t feel the "love" between them. The male lead was obsessive, sure, but the story didn’t strike me as romantic, especially compared to other BLs I’ve read. This was a 3-star read for me, but I’m bumping it up to 4 stars because I enjoyed the translation and loved the ABO aspect.

For future readers: I recommend checking out the translation on Blogspot, it’s more polished and better edited than the Chrysanthemum version.

Non official english name: Alpha Predator. Length: 132 chapters + 1 extra.

Sigh. I didn't expect the letdown this novel would make me feel, and it all got ruined for me in the last 20 chapters. Giving it 3.5 stars, rounded up to 3.

A quick introduction first. The novel has an omegaverse setting, the plot is about Shen Dai (MC), B-class omega and researcher. He is the illegitimate son of a big name, whom offers him to marry the man his son was engaged to, the CEO of Shen Dai's company and S-class alpha, Qu Moyu (ML). Shen Dai is in a debt that his omega father left him and has to take care of his grandma, so he accepts. This is the start of a nightmare.

There are several things this novel did incredibly well, as expected from this author, and I want to point them out first because despite my final rating, it wasn't a bad experience for most of the story. Since this is set in an omegaverse world, the author created her own rules to play with, and the most important one is the difference in class for alphas and omegas, the enormous power imbalance between these two groups. Being less than A-class is low in the eyes of this society, while being S-class (for alphas) is the greatest power one can be born with, because they can manipulate pheromones and induce oppression towards others in lower classes, especially omegas who can't resist alphas per se. This idea alone is absolutely terrifying, one that MC has to fight agaisnt to survive.

Another good thing besides the good writting style is the execution for the first half of the story. There was a good amount of angst and whump, the reader can feel Shen Dai's desperation at certain moments and his sadness related to his unrequited love and the condescendent treatment ML gave him during their fake marriage. I also liked Shen Dai's as a character overall. He is a great MC, a kind person who has high goals in regards his career and wants to protect his loved ones, highly intelligent and emotionally strong, a real fighter. Both Shen Dai and were everything to me and I melted at each of their interactions.

Now the main reason of this rating: Qu Moyu, go to hell. Listen, I am used to scum MLs, I have read other books by this author and I also encounter this often in asian BL. I have nothing agaisnt it (I do wish some were better written though). My number one problem with this novel is reduced to this character and it's not that he's badly constructed, but that he is highly unlikeable with a poor excuse of redemption. Sure, some novels can have this resolution (ex. Sissy by same author), where the ending isn't one the reader roots for, but it makes sense within the context. Sadly, AP felt rushed from chapter 100 onwards.

The worst of it all is that I don't feel Qu Moyu truly went through a crematorium and the best scene to highlight this is the towards the end. Shen Dai became OOC and when just a few chapters before he . His behaviour cannot even be explained psychologically. A good example for that is Li Chengxiu from Sissy, where he had the same thoughts about . Here, Shen Dai even , the most important person to him, to run towards Qu Moyu. I know this is part of the famous the author pulls out on many of her works, but I don't think it helped in this one. I was pissed off at how that was all it took for Shen Dai to change everything, from his behaviour to his mind about ML.

The last thing I wasn't satisfied with is the ending. When it comes to SQC pairings I get certain satisfaction by the end, not due to loving the couples, but for how the dynamics are turned around. Here it stayed the same, where I think it should've been better if Shen Dai had more power, because I never felt that he "tamed" the alpha predator, instead became his prey and never stepped out of that role. I understand this universe makes it harder to be independent and escape such situation, but Qu Moyu never lost any kind of power and just made Shen Dai submit. It also enraged me that Qu Moyu , are you kidding me? Awful, just awful. I don't understand the logic behind that because for ENTIRE second half Shen Dai feared it the most, and he ALWAYS talked to ML about how he didn't want it with good reasoning, since it feels like a chain for omegas, werther the alpha is a good partner or not.

Too much to rant about and I just got out of energy. Qu Moyu really should be the vicepresident of 188, in terms that he is one of the scummiest SQC gongs. He deserves that title, sorry Song Juhan. I do have to agree she has talent for pulling such strong emotions out of me, the main attraction of her novels for me in particular. Anyway, this just wasn't for me due to the ending, if only it had been slower AND avoided those two events I mentioned then it would've been a 4.5 stars.

¿No te gusta?

No me decepcionado.

This one is a bit hard to rate but I'm going to have to go with my gut and give it a 2.5 rounded up. So this is the most recent of the 188 series and I've only read the first in the series before this one. I accidentally started it without knowing it was part of the series because it was mentioned in the comments of another omegaverse/ABO novel I had just finished but it's a standalone so I don't think it matters too much. I'm conflicted because I do enjoy ABO books and the associated tropes like jealous and possessive alphas. In this book the omega, Shen Dai, was a super competent scientist and I loved his character from the beginning. Qu Moyu though was domineering from the beginning, fucked up, kept fucking up and, in my opinion, didn't suffer enough to deserve getting forgiven so quickly so I was left with a feeling of dissatisfaction at the end of the novel which led to this rating.

Summary: Shen Dai is the illegitimate son of the wealthy You family who had a business deal with the Qu family which was going to be sealed with a marriage. Shen Dai's perfect omega stepbrother got himself marked so the You family offered Shen Dai money to take his place. Due to Shen Dai's father, he had a lot of debt so he took the deal. Shen Dai soon found out his husband was going to be his young and handsome company boss, Qu Moyu, who he already had a crush on. He tried not to be obvious about it but soon he and Qu Moyu got closer and he hoped it could develop into a true relationship. Then due to family scheming, Qu Moyu got angry at Shen Dai, treated him cruelly and Shen Dai suffered alone and gave birth to their baby. Qu Moyu calmed down after a few months, learned he actually did care about Shen Dai and spends the rest of the book doing everything he can, including threatening to take his child's custody, to keep Shen Dai by his side.

BEWARE of SPOILER

132 Chapters + one extra and by the end of the day, my mind was tired. Shui Qian Cheng is well known for this type of dog-blood drama and it's not disappointing.

In this universe, S-class AO was rare. Especially S-class Alpha. Giving birth to one was like hitting the jackpot. In order to produce more S-class Alpha, Qu Moyu (S-class Alpha) was engaged with You Baiyue (S-class Omega). However, Qu Moyu did not want to mark You Baiyue. In retaliation, You Baiyoue got into a relationship with Qu Moyu's cousin, another S-class Alpha. Shen Dai, a B-class Omega, You Baiyue's half-brother, was brought into the picture to replace him.

Shen Dai had a huge crush on Qu Moyu. The ice-cold S-class Alpha treated him well and Shen Dai had high hopes that their contract relationship could be something more. His dreams were shattered when he was scheme on by Qu Moyu's cousin with the help of his Omega father. And to make matters worse, Qu Moyu did not believe him. Hurtful words were thrown and Shen Dai went into seclusion.

A year later, Shen Dai and Qu Moyu crossed paths again and embarked on the journey of wife-chasing crematorium.

S-class Alpha don't always mark their Omega. They did not want to be shackled. For them relationship was just to produce an heir. And Qu Moyu was one of those S-class Alpha with the same mindset. Being given a mark by an S-class Alpha was like being given the greatest gift. And Qu Moyu would never offer it willy-nilly. However, when he realized he could not live without Shen Dai, he humbled himself and decided to give this greatest gift only to be rejected. He was like a puppy thrown away by his own owner.

Honestly, I stuck to the story till the end after knowing that the translator was doing their doctorate. There's a certain flavor to scholarly people. Lol. But yes, it made the story more interesting knowing it was translated by a scholar.

I have never been remotely interested in reading about marriage struggles and even less about pregnancy and children’s. But OMG! This feels like I recently discovered the true omega verse… and I was so into this story like I was watching a Mexican soap opera… damn! It hit hard.. I was so conflicted with all the first QMY personality I kind of hated him along with SD… and ended up falling for QQ.

That was painful to read — not only because of all the angst but also because Qu Moyu is just an unredeemable asshole. I thought he was bad at first, but, as the story went on and the chasing arc begun, he just got progressively worse. The novel emphasized over and over just how wrong and toxic his actions were and it didn’t try to condone him, but rather explain how his upbringing turned him into this bitter, controlling person. Still… I just couldn’t like him. At all. All I’ve wanted was for Shen Dai and Qiuqiu to live happy, peaceful lives away from him and his family drama, and that’s what I’m going to pretend that happened from now on.

Part of the 188 novel series. Iam cry because this danmei is great but the story always hurts me!

+ ABO universe
+ The author Shui Qian Cheng/水千丞 is known for her modern writing style, straightforward, and easy to read but the story always pierces the heart
+ ML always has a cruel nature that makes him get karma in the middle of the story
+ MC omega is naive but struggle makes him strong
+ Dog blood & angst drama
+ Love hate relationship

Nb: I prefer 2 ML which is understanding to others even though it rarely appears in the story.

3.5. I loved the first part of the novel a lot, the second was just ok.
PS: Half of the story was read in English TL, another half in Russian. I always prefer English TL but the quality was not the best, so I switched to the Russian one.

Rating: 3.5/5 - I must say that I stayed up until 2am finishing this novel. I am a total sucker for angst - even the badly written ones.

This is not one of SQC’s worsts novels, as I find that her novels are either a hit or miss with me. Some I like and some I just cannot.

As part of the 188 gang - I must say this scum gong was not too the absolute worst. Well he was a POS no doubt.

I did like this story. I enjoy ABO in general - the whole soulmates and marking gives me tingly vibes. Some of the scenes in this novel were incredible and I especially liked the gong’s mum.

Overall it’s a decent read that I can afford a point in SQC’s favour.

So my score with SQC now stands at 3 in favour and 3 against. Keep it up SQC!
