When the Straw Hats encounter a mysterious barrel on the open sea, little do they know that it's a trap. Losing control of their ship, they're steered toward Thriller Bark. Any rational sailor would think twice before going ashore on an island full of zombies. But with Luffy at the helm, the Straw Hats are in for a scare as they become the targets of the dreaded Gecko Moria!
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

I am only here to critically engage with the things I love.
This volume is certainly something. There are A LOT of good parts: Ace vs. Blackbeard, Brook (Luffy asking the important question: “Do you poop?”--honestly, just...everything Luffy does in this volume is great, I love that kid), Perona and her ghosts, and the Mini-Merry.
I know this volume came out a while ago and was published in 2007, probably written in 2006, and that I am looking at it with 2021 goggles but: Absalom is horrific. I don't really remember my reaction to it when I first watched this scene in the anime years ago, but the whole scene with Nami in the shower is disgusting and completely unnecessary.
‘Oh, it was written for young boys. Oh, Absalom isn’t supposed to be a good guy. It was supposed to be funny. It's NOT supposed to be funny.’ Whatever the excuse is, I don't care for it. Nami and Robin (the only two main female characters) are assaulted and it's treated as fanservice.
I enjoy Thriller Bark, but I’ve never liked Oda’s perverted characters or the traits he gives to some of them, like Brook asking about panties and Sanji’s general behavior involving women.
This was a pretty decent volume, focusing on the Strawhats coming to some haunted island where they meet this guy Brook and then going on to meet different ghost creatures and even zombies. Meanwhile Nami, Usopp and Chopper meet dr gogback and whatever crazy experiments she has got running. Also we learn of Moria who seems to be the ruler of this and, and he is one of the Schibukai. Its a great volume and has some funny moments and also focuses on Luffy being Luffy and accepting everyone not caring about their past and seems like this will be another big arc.

The blue print for the Sunny Go is awesome, a very well-planned ship. It's gorgeous! Thriller Bark, a brand new, thrilling adventure, it's kinda scary, I liked how Oda put the three scaredy cats in one group - Nami, Chopper and Usopp, but still I hope they quickly reunite soon, I really like to see them as a whole. Ace's future, aigoo... Too bad, Teach, too bad... 4 stars!

Thriller Bark is generally seen as one of the weaker One Piece arcs, but its introduction is, I think, one of the most effective. All this spook and mystery. Ghosts, invisible men, zombies... and one pervy skeleton.
argh what a let down! I was honestly looking forward to this arc because of its introduction to Bermuda triangle thing but then everything changed when it became a Halloween filler.
One Piece, Vol. 46 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (441–449) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon begins the Thriller Bark Arc. The Straw Hat Pirates continue their adventure across the seas. After being stuck in a fog not even the sun can penetrate, the crew meets Brook, a living skeleton who immediately agrees to join their crew. Unfortunately for the Straw Hats, Brook lost his shadow on the giant ship known as Thriller Bark and cannot accompany them outside the fog.
Determined to have Brook as part of the crew, they go to the Thriller Bark in order to get Brook's shadow back. Tony Tony Chopper, Usopp, and Nami serve as the first boarding party, and find that the ship is inhabited by zombies. When the rest of the Straw Hats follow, they discover that Brook is not the only one who has lost his shadow, and that much of the island-like ship's populace have had their shadows stolen by Gecko Moria.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. The Straw Hats continue their adventure out into the Florian Triangle where they come across a strange barrel which upon opening, sets off a flare. This soon turns into a nightmare when a ghost ship directs them to the haunted island of Thriller Bark, where ghosts, zombies and Warlord of the Sea Gecko Moria await them.
All in all, One Piece, Vol. 46 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
A good introduction to a "Supernatural/Horror" arc. Strawhats coming to a talking skeleton "Brook", a haunted island/mansion, ghosts, zombies, and an invisible man! We get to know that they are in one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea ship, and this will lead us to a huge storyline where Luffy and the others gotta face this dangerous enemy. My only take on this is the fact that the first "group" that went out was all the "no power/ weak" group for the sake of the " they got lost, let's go and find them" plot to happen.

As much as I love Brook, this arc is just not great. I don't look back very fondly on it. Maybe one day I'll reread it and find a new enjoyment, but right now I just can't be bothered. It felt liker a filler arc, honestly.
On Banaro Island, Ace fights with Blackbeard. Blackbeard obtained Yami Yami no Mi.
Straw Hat Pirates arrived at Florian Triangle. The sea is dark due to heavy fog. They encountered a ghost ship and they met Brook. Brook already dead 50 years ago. He ate Yomi Yomi no Mi that make him resurrected. Luffy proposed Brook to join his crew. Brook refused to join the crew as he cannot walk under the sun as his shadow is stolen by Gecko Moria, a Shichibukai.
They stranded at Thriller Bark, the biggest ship in the world that have an island in the ship. The island full of monsters, ghosts and zombies. Gecko Moria, Perona, Absalom and Dr. Hogback are ready to face Straw Hat Pirates.
I like the setting of this arc where Straw Hat Pirates have an adventure in the island full of ghosts and monsters. The tone is dark and horror with a comedic relief.
THRILLER BARK ARC - PART 1 1. mini-merry. franky is really kind and thoughtful, and the thousand sunny is amazing!!!
2. what the hell type of scooby doo shit am i reading LMFAOOOO it's so funny watching luffy and robin interact with these things/zombies/ghosts/whatever because they don't give a fuck. it's hilarious. who would think to just push the zombie back into the ground? i've actually laughed out loud a couple times. this is gonna be fun
3. alright, down to bring another one of the seven warlords of the sea to fall >:3 (luffy can do all the work, i'm just here to watch...)
THRILLER BARK WOOOOOOO. ugh such fun spooky vibes - the outfits are a slay. GIVE NAMI A PONYTAIL MORE OFTEN ODA. love franky being with the crew love his vibes AND THE MAN THE MYTH TNE LEGEND BROOK HAS ARRIVED. sorry i love him. he's so wacky and i love him. I'm very excited to read more of this but its so funny and the vibes are so fun UGH
I was so excited to meet Brook because I saw pictures of him online before I started One Piece and I really like his character design but I wish he wasn’t so pervy. Then the sexual harassment? It all really pissed me off. Robin and Nami were completely violated. Absalom is disgusting and not really necessary for the plot. I love Halloween! It's my favorite holiday so if it weren't for all of the unnecessary perverse actions this probably would have been my favorite volume of One Piece. Anyways, I'm obsessed with Perona's character design! I hope she becomes apart of the crew but unfortunately I don't think so! She's my most favorite manga character design like EVER!
New arc! New island! New enemies! I like that the set up goes pretty fast. We already know what we're up against and we can get right into it. Also : Brook is pretty cool ^^
Luffy was so incredibly chaotic in this one. So much so that I think originally I would’ve not liked Brook but I liked him Purely bc Luffy was like ah suck a talking skeleton let’s have him join my crew and mans was not going to ask if’s a name either. Luffy also just ran around the island with a net, called a zombie an old guy with severe injuries, and tamed Cerberus. He is literally the friend that runs away everytime y’all drink together OR he is the one to bring home a bobcat but believes with his whole chest it’s a regular house cat. I love him. He’s so dumb but I love him. I also love Halloween, bring on the spookiness even tho it’s July for me irl
