The Straw Hats find themselves caught in the Florian Triangle when the mysterious island "Thriller Bark" suddenly appears. Gecko Moria, one of the Seven Warlords, and his zombie army are also on the island, and they're preparing for a Night Hunt! Can the Straw Hat crew survive this fearsome evening?
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

First of all : LABOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELS. Secondly : I feel like this is going really fast (in a good way). And I don't know if it's because there's more characters or because the storytelling improves as we go and the different storylines interwined better. Anyway, kudos for that.
This volume was amazing, while Nami and all are continuing their adventures on Thriller Bark and following different generals like Perona, Absalom and Dr Hogback we learn of his powers aka to control the shadows and command them and put them in the body of powerful warriors aka making his zombies and its an interesting power. Moira is turning out to be a fun villain and then we have Luffy's shadow being taken and put into the body of OZ, a warrior who wrecked the world 500 years ago. And the team gathers again while Nami is taken, they rescue Luffy and all and learn of Brook's backstory and how he was behind to meet with a former nakama they left behind aka Laboon aka the whale! I love how Oda connected a plot point like this to ch 200 which was so far back! Its genius and we learn more of his motivations, while he is fighting his shadow and everyone accepts him as their Nakama! Its interesting and like shows Oda's amazing writing skills and the battles are slowly becoming more epic!

The salt weakness is a real missed opportunity. It does make sense that it would negate the powers of the zombies and return the shadows to their owners... but shouldn't the same apply to all Devil Fruit abilities? Should not a fruit user grow weaker if they eat too salty food? I think it'd have made a bit of extra worldbuilding and could have ultimately foreshadowed this particular plot point, even given them a new way to fight back Logia users. Maybe do something to explain the seastone as well. Or at least build a couple gags.
Speaking of gags, a really good one at the end of this volume.

One Piece, Vol. 47 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (450–459) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the Thriller Bark Arc. Geckō Moria mobilizes his zombies to capture the Straw Hats, who in turn try to reunite their two boarding parties. However, when they begin to engage Moria's forces in an effort to accomplish this goal, members of the crew mysteriously disappear.
Brook explains this is Moria's doing. He captures those who enter Thriller Bark, removes their shadows, and inserts them into patched-up corpses in order to reanimate them and create his own zombie army. The shadowless individuals are forced to stay out of the sunlight or risk their own destruction, so that most stay within the impenetrable fogs of Thriller Bark.
With Sanji, Roronoa Zoro, and Monkey D. Luffy having lost their shadows and Nami similarly unaccounted for, the Straw Hats become determined to defeat Moria.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. The mystery deepens as the Straw Hat Pirates finds out that Geckō Moria, the captain of the island-sized ship Thriller Bark and a former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, who has eaten the Shadow-Shadow Fruit, which grants him the ability to control his shadow, allowing it to act completely independent from his body, and to control the shadows of others, which he does to create a zombie crew.
All in all, One Piece, Vol. 47 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
Ugh.. this is it for me. I'll stop reading for now. There's no real progress and it's getting nowhere. Can't just continue reading this just for the action scenes of Roronoa.
Also every single scene that tries to be serious is the most cringe-worthy thing ever. Nope.
This is a very lighthearted arc after the high drama of Water 7, but oh, how much do I love Oda for bringing back Laboon? (And for putting Sanji's soul into a zombie penguin, heh.)

a skeleton swordsman of wano is working for doctor hogback??
they just finished fighting the world government in enies lobby and now they have to deal with this? this crew needs a longer break.
each of the straw hat crew is disappearing one by one. and it seems like we found the first one to disappear–sanji. zoro and luffy became weird zombies too.
brook's shadow was taken by mario as well. he found his shadow in another swordsman.
oh noooooo. luffy's shadow was cut away. the group is gonna have a hard time fighting it. oz is awakened with luffy's shadow. luffy is still luffy even in oz's body.
BROOK'S CREW WAS THE ONE WHO LEFT LABOON BEHIND. OMG. MY TEARS
”Laboon.. Do you still… remember us..? When I think of how you must feel, it's heart wrenching.”
Luffy's, Zoro's and Sanji's shadows were stolen by Gecko Moria. Luffy's shadow was inserted into the ancient giant from Ice Country, Oz. Brook's shadow was inserted into long-dead samurai from Wano Country.
50 years ago, Brook's crew, Rumbar Pirates leave the Twin Cape at the beginning of Grand Line. They also leave their nakama, Laboon there. Brook refused to die as he wants to meet Laboon once again. So he will keep his afro to make Laboon recognized him.
Typical Oda, he already give some payoff to the foreshadow that he did earlier in the series. The other foreshadows is about Wano Country existence and also the fight between Gecko Moria and Kaido 🔥
I picked this up and almost immediately put it down for about two weeks because chapter 450 mentions Wano on the third page.
I might take back my previous statement about enjoying the Thriller Bark arc. Perona and Cindry are cool and I dig the Halloween aesthetics, but it's just not doing much for me this time around. Still reeling from the fact that Oda dropped a mention of Wano nearly 500 chapters before getting us there.
Brook me caer MUY bien. Y el cameíto del finaaaaaal aaaaaaaaah.
Thriller Bark is one of my favourite arcs - the way the story ties so well with Laboon and Brook and then of course the defining moment that comes at the end with Zoro (yet to come....). I remember the first time Laboon and Brook's tie was revealed to me. I bawled my eyes out. It's also very interesting to see how Ryuma and Wano are tied in so early in the story... it'll be basically 50 volumes before this comes up again!! Oda's storytelling and planning is phenomenal.
