Camie the mermaid offers to take Luffy and the crew to Fish-Man Island if they'll help rescue her boss Hachi from the notorious Flying Fish Riders. Ignoring all of the warning signs (hint: her boss sounds suspiciously like an old enemy!), the crew agrees to help their mermaid friend, only to end up losing Camie to other kidnappers!
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

I'd say this is the book that changes everything. So much happens. So many new characters (TRAFALGAR!!!!!!). Anouncement of terrible things. And that last page. That last page is whu Luffy will always be my favorite.
The whole Iron Mask Duval bit did seem like a filler at first but what a funny twist it turned out to be! I could never have imagined such a twist to his real face. However, the new archipelago they discover is once more another original and wonderful world and it contains some very dangerous people.
The high note of this volume is the final pages and what Luffy does to a Celestial Dragon. Now, that's an epic moment of a real hero.

Yes. Yes to everything. I love the introductions of the supernovas. Everything that takes place in this arc is great. A lot of important ground is covered, which is very refreshing after the filler of Thriller Bark.
You know what a childlike adventure story really needs? Some cartoonishly evil, absolutely hideous, detestable, black-as-they-come villains. Everybody else goes on about moral greys and nuance and how this is the more mature and objectively better approach, meanwhile Eiichiro Oda just goes and gives us these assholes. Sometimes you don't need nuance. Sometimes you just need to really hate on some vaguely human-shaped piece of trash, and then cheer as they get decked.
One of the finest moments in the series - and also, as we've already established and as we realize for a fact in the next volume, the point where the script got flipped.
Great worldbuilding, too. You've got history, politics, and another awesome adventurous island to check out and have fun in. A bunch more pirate crews that Oda quite literally put together in just a couple days as his editor told him the place needs some more colour. Even the Fishman Island is being hyped up: it's just a shame we won't get to see it in yet a while.
492: Iron Mask Duval 493: You Know Me 494: Duval's Tragedy 495: Gaon Cannon 496: Yarukiman Mangrove 497: Adventure on the Archipelago of Dancing Soap Bubbles 498: The Eleven Supernovas 499: Sabaody Park 500: The Embers of History 501: The World Begins to Swell 502: The Incident of the Celestial Dragons
So we meet all the other pirates who have made it through the first half of the Grand Line and so OP tackles the topic of slavery?! I knew OP got dark sometimes but this is *bleak* and it’s great.
One Piece, Vol. 51 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next eleven chapters (492–502) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon begins a new story arc. The Straw Hats arrive at the halfway point of their adventure – the Red Line that splits the oceans in two. As pirates and enemies of the World Government, their only way to get through the divider is by traveling under the sea.
When they meet Hatchan and his friend Camie, they learn of a man who can outfit their ship for an undersea voyage. They arrive at the archipelago where he resides and begin to search for him. While there they encounter the Celestial Dragons – the descendants of the founders of the World Government. Though angered by the Celestial Dragons' treatment of other people, Hatchan convinces the Straw Hats not to do anything or risk the full wrath of the Government.
As they continue their search, Camie is captured to be sold as a slave to the Celestial Dragons. In their attempt to rescue her, Hatchan is shot by a Celestial Dragon, prompting Monkey D. Luffy to break his promise and punching the dragon in anger.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. It starts a new story arc and introduces the Celestial Dragons, who are the aristocratic descendants of nineteen of the Twenty Kings who established what is now known as the World Government. As high ranking members, they can commit any crime with impunity and not to be trifled with as they are the government – unfortunately, Monkey D. Luffy didn’t get the memorandum.
All in all, One Piece, Vol. 51 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
continuing on ch 499where they go to amusement park and have fun, then Camie is kidnapped and sold for auctions while everyone is looking for her then the craziest thing happens, when its upto Luffy to rescue her and what he does with the Tennryubito in the end just wow1 This volume was awesome and a bit time consuming but worth it, the art and plot just get better and better!
I can’t with how funny the beginning was… but then it got very serious, Law made his first appearance… and we learned something about Ace… and Kamy is being sold… I feel like this novel was a turning point in the story, it’s really heating up and I’m so invested.
Duval kim tahmin edemedim açıkçası ama Arlong’un tayfasından birini görmek nostaljik geldi. Hacckin’in artık “kötülükten” arınmış olması falan. Rayleigh’in ismini duymak bile heyecanlandırdı. Ama Ace’in idam tarihinin belirlenmesi, felaketti. Devamında deli gibi ağlayacağımı biliyorum. Tek tesellim Hancock olacak.

A great introduction to the next arc/era: new characters, enemies, and conflict. The New World lies ahead. This Volume is reminding us that One piece world is huge, and the information we have about its characters and their history is so little. It opens up a lot of possibilities for upcoming, promising plot points in the new world. There is a tease that the Paradise arc will not end without one last goodbye gift.
What an amazing start of the Sabaody Archipelago Arc🔥🔥, this entire volume was just so amazing to read❣️❣️.
The volume opens up with our crew with Camie and Pappagu trying to rescue hachin from the flying fish riders. Hachin turns out to be a member of the Arlong pirates and the crew denies to help him considering what they did to nami. Nami on the other hand wants to help hachin as she has already promised the same to camie. I loved this as it shows how kind she actually is☺️🥹.
We then see the boss aka Duval who hates sanji and wants to kill him. This was literally the most hilarious scene so far as Duval looks exactly like the wanted poster of sanji😂😂. This is the reason he hates sanji as navy is hunting him even if he isn't a pirate 🤣🤣. Sanji fights him and changes his bone structure and now he looks completely different 😅😅. Duval loves his new look and promises sanji to help him if he ever needs it.
We then enter the Sabaody Archipelago, as to enter the Fish-man Island we have to coat the ship here. Fish-man Island is 30,000 feet below and if the ship is not coated the crew can't enter Fish-man Island. We have mangroves here on sabaody and it's basically not an island just a clump of trees. There are bubbles here created by the sticky natural resin. I loved exploring this place and it shows how good oda is when it comes to the world building 🔥🔥. We see Luffy on the bubble bike which was such a cool concept ☺️☺️.
Things get scary when hachin asks Luffy to promise he will not defy the world nobles. We then see these nobles aka the celestial dragons who are basically the descendants of the 20 kings who created the world Government 800 yrs ago. It's a horrible reality as these nobles take slaves and can kill anyone at any time. They chain the humans and parade them by riding on them. I hate them so much😡😡. It's even sadder considering the collars of the slaves burst if they try to run away.
Hachin then takes the crew to the bar where we meet shakky who tells us that Rayleigh who is responsible for coating the ship is not there and the crew needs to find him in the lawless region of sabaody. She also tells us about the 11 rookies who are present here who all have bounties over 100 million. Excluding Luffy and Zoro the others are: Bege, Bonney, Hawkins, Kid, Apoo, Drake, urouge, killer and Law🔥🔥. Kid has the highest bounty of them all making Luffy the one with the second largest bounty out of the rookies.
While looking for Rayleigh the crew goes to the amusement park and have a lot of fun. But then camie gets kidnapped 😭😔. We are then told about the dark history of this place as the Fish-man and mermaids are hated by humans and 200 years ago slavery and human trafficking were a part of the culture. This explains why camie never visited the amusement park as mermaids are hunted and sold as slaves here🧜♀️😭.
We then see the entire crew trying to find camie with the help of Duval. The crew is able to find the human auction hall where the bidding is going on. Nami decides to take part and pay for camie's rescue with the treasure she got from thriller bark. I can't believe it's the same nami who only cared about money in the beginning 💲💰. The character development is real🤑🤑. The moment that camie is shown the celestial dragon bids 500 million and everyone tenses as they don't have more berries than that😱😱. That's when Luffy tries to help but hachi stops him. Hachi is then shot by the celestial dragon for being a Fish-man which infuriates Luffy. We then see the best moment of this arc and that is Luffy punching the celestial dragon. It was literally the most satisfying punch ever👊👊. I loved the way all the rookies react to him , it was such a badass moment 🔥🔥.
We are also told that ace will be publically executed by Navy and it could lead to a war as Whitebeard would not sit silent 😭😭.
What will happen next? Will the marines capture the crew? Will camie be saved ? Will ace die? To find out let's keep reading ❣️🥹.
My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

SABAODY ARCHIPELAGO ARC - PART 1 1. i love seeing the straw hats beat up neptunians. it will never get old. also, i think mermaids have a cloaca and that's how they poop.
2. oh, hacchin doesn't even know the half of it - the crew grew so much stronger since arlong park (i love that life is continuing for the people from the earlier arcs! it gives this world of one piece actual character and also makes it so real, because that's how real life also works. you have your adventure, but life goes on for the normal people/or also for the enemies you've beaten)
3. did luffy just use haki on the bull?
4. i love sabaody and the bubbles - they're so convenient, especially the bubble bag!!
5. nevermind, i don't like sabaody anymore. i HATE the celestial dragons. i hate that they trade humans as if they aren't humans themselves, i hate that they have the privilege to sic the navy on other people because they can and because they're of a certain blood. they make me sick. the entire treatment of fish people and mermaids is sickening, just like how certain ethnicities have been oppressed, sold, executed and more in our history. it's sadly a depiction of how society and people work, and their atrocities, so it's insanely real for one piece to depict that.
6. i am also incredibly stoked because there's so many storylines coming together here in this arc too - the straw hats and their wanting to go to fishman island as well as finding silvers rayleigh (who turns out to be gol d roger's first mate!! the characters we are meeting are only turning out to be more and more epic), the several other rookie pirates coming together with all their own goals and aspirations, the navy and the high society of sabaody, who are, once again, showing how corrupt and disgusting they can be, while also suddenly the news of ace's execution drawing near, as well as the upcoming retaliation from whitebeard. i wonder though, why would the government want to risk that?
They arrived at Sabaody Archipelago to find a man named Rayleigh to do a coating to their ship. Rayleigh is former vice captain of Roger Pirates.
Camie is being kidnapped and will be sold at the human auction. Straw Hat Pirates trying to save Camie. Tenryuubito cannot be harmed or else an Admiral will come to annihilate who harmed the Tenryuubito. A Tenryuubito buy Camie with 500 million Berry and shot Hachi. Luffy punch the Tenryuubito and cause chaos in the Sabaody.
The news about Ace's execution is spread. The war is coming between Whitebeard Pirates and the Marine.
Several important plot points have been revealed: - World Government is formed by 20 Kings. Their descendant known as Tenryuubito. - Slavery and human trade of Tenryuubito is introduced. - Fishmen and mermaids were discriminated by human starting 200 years ago. - Haki is first shown. - 11 rookie pirates with bounty over 100 million Berry that arrived at Sabaody Archipelago known as Supernovas.
This Volume is simply incredible. Especially the second half. The first little Duval Arc was good but not great to me. Everything afterwards was phenomenal though. The world building, the new characters, the returning characters, the INTRIGUE, seeing everything that leads up to the war. I cannot wait for the next few volumes. It will be a feast. In addition to that we get the Strawhats being themselves and entertaining me to no end. My precious idiotic children.
I feel like I don't even need to say anything. That fucking final page is so deserved ♥ SO SATISFYING
+ we get Law (and Kid and Killer and Hawkins and Bonnie and...) FUCKING LAW ♥
The last page of this volume is perhaps my favorite One Piece moment to date. In the anime, the color gets completely drained from the screen....there is nothing quite so satisfying as this scene.
