The Straw Hats are in a desperate battle against time and Gecko Moria to get their shadows back before dawn. Gecko Moria unleashes his devastating power of a thousand shadows, but Luffy counters back with his "Gear" powers. To save his crew, will Luffy have to make the ultimate sacrifice?
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

Brook makes for an unusual Straw Hat: he doesn't have a tragically dead mentor or friend in his backstory - there's his whole crew, but in a way they're all still alive in his dial - and it all comes across as strangely hopeful and going forward in comparison to what the others all went through. His dream is not nearly as nebulous or difficult or far-reaching as the dreams of the others: he knows exactly what he has to do and how to do it. All he needs to do is to make a return.
Finally done with Thriller Bark and it's off to new adventures... but not without adding in one final mystery. But at the time of this reading we're nearing the endgame of the whole story, and Oda's been greatly streamlining his writing to get us there faster and with no inconveniences, so I suppose this one mystery will go unsolved for all time. That's fine: you should always leave a few mysteries for the next generation (which I'm sure will arrive, because this cash cow cannot be allowed to die).

This volume starts off with Chapter 482: Morning is Coming(Arrival of Dawn).
Finally the final showdown between Luffy and Moria is coming to a close. This was one battle that I honestly thought that Luffy really struggled in. Though most of this Arc was comical to a point, and there was a lot of character growth for many of the chracters. Also Brooks is an awesome character, and I love him down to the Bone!
I'll write more when my editing mode hits. Happy Readings! Fly my Pretties! Fly!
This volume was quite fun! Focusing on Luffy's fight with Moria and the way he defeats him is epic and everyone shadows return which was fun to see and the way they partied and showed Brooks origin was emotional, that one was painful and his connection with Laboon wow! But the crew get their 8th member and a musician! Loved this volue and a good end to the THRILLER BARK saga and then we go to the fisherman island one! They come across a mermaid Camie and have to fight some "makuro gang" and their leader Duval who seems to have a connection with the strawhats! This volume was good and had some big moments and all, and explored some good recent pasts and ZORO had an amazing moment when facing that guy Kuma! Lots of stuff happened and we begin the new world saga here I guess!

The arc finally came to an end. Also it was really amazing to see how zoro and sanji were willing to sacrifice their lives for Luffy. Also there's a hint for the next arc that is just exciting. I'm officially in love with these characters. Every part of them is amazing and they make this story just adventurous and magical!
One Piece, Vol. 50 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next ten chapters (482–491) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon concludes the Thriller Bark Arc. Geckō Moria, like Monkey D. Luffy before him, is given the strength of all the shadows he has absorbed. However, Moria has absorbed more shadows than he can handle, and with each successful blow Luffy lands on him he loses some of the excess shadows. When Luffy drops the whole of Thriller Bark on him, Moria loses all of his shadows, which quickly return to their original owners.
No longer fearing the sun, the Straw Hats and the inhabitants of Thriller Bark begin to celebrate, only to be cut short by the arrival of Bartholomew Kuma, who has been sent to take Luffy's head, something nobody on Thriller Bark will allow. Kuma easily deals with all of them, but before he can kill Luffy, Roronoa Zoro convinces him to spare the Straw Hat captain. Kuma leaves and they resume their celebration.
With Brook free to walk in the sun, he joins the Straw Hats in leaving Thriller Bark and moving on to their next adventure.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. It concludes the Thriller Bark Arc, which lasted forty-eight chapters over five tankōbon. As one of the shorter story arcs, not much happens besides the main story, but Roronoa Zoro gains a sword – Shusui and Brook joins the Straw Hat Pirates as the newest member of the crew.
All in all, One Piece, Vol. 50 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
One of my absolute favorite parts of One Piece. I love it so much I bought the manga. It’s a very pivotal relational moment for Zoro and Sanji, but also a really significant set-up for a massive emotional payoff in the future with Luffy.
This volume has two of my absolute favorite parts in the whole series: Zoro vs. Kuma and Brook’s backstory. Even though I’ve rewatched this part of the anime so many times, reading it for the first time was still amazing!!
I’m a slow reader so it’s usually hard for me to finish a whole volume in a day, but this time I binged it easily. It was such a fun experience! Plus, there’s something special about reading the physical copy.
This volume has one of my all time favourite scenes: nothing happened. When Zoro takes on all of Luffy’s pain and suffering for that one moment...it’s incredible. Zoro is the best of the crew, hands down.
Also...Luffy meeting a mermaid and immediately asking her how she poops is hilarious
After an intense battle, Moria is defeated by Luffy and other Straw Hat Pirates. All the shadows that Moria consumed spill out and back to their owner. Kuma appears and wants to dispose all Straw Hat Pirates as per request by the World Government.
Kuma eats Nikyu Nikyu no Mi that allow him to repel any attacks. He used Ursus Shock to knock out everyone. Zoro offers himself to be killed instead of Luffy. Kuma repelled all Luffy's pain and fatigue and let Zoro to take all of it. Then, the infamous scene happen when Sanji meet Zoro: "Nothing happened"
Brook's backstory is super sad. Then, Straw Hat Pirates have their 8th member; Brook, a musician swordsman. Lola, the leader of the Moria's victims give Nami a Vivre Card. Luffy's Vivre Card that given by Ace was started to burn.

“Our jolly band is down to a quartet. A trio.. a duet… a solo”
I love how the crew has faith in Luffy during his fight with Moria.Zoro is such an amazing first mate. The way that he stands be him and fully believes in luffy as a captain is so great. He was prepared to sacrifice himself without any hesitation and he took luffy’s pain with grace. I understand people who ship zoro and sanji. I can see it in the volume. THE VIBES WERE THERE! My heart BROKE when I read brook’s backstory. The fact that he has been alone all these years and he misses his old crew so much is just so sad. I cried so much. I really do hope he can show laboon that song and reunite with him. Also what’s going on with ace👀👀 hopefully everything is okay. We have officially entered a new arc and I’m super excited to visit fish man island and met the mermaids!
Thoughts while reading:
- “This match with Moria has already been won by us” yes Zoro you tell them! - How are they still burning? - Awww the crew is worried about luffy 🥹 - “In gratitude, I’ll offer myself as a bride!” She’s just a girl! She is so me! - Not him starting with zoro! - “Your crew seems to be quite popular amongst the rabble. I heard that straw hat luffy has several underlings in his crew who aren’t entirely without talent” LMAOO not the crew blushing and feeling gassed up! - “And it’s not only the captain who’s been making a name for himself” SLAYYY period of my babies - I know zoro is going to be mad that Sanji came into the fight - DAMNNNN - Yes zoroooo I see you trying to save luffy!! - AWWW NOT ZORO OFFERING HIMSELF UP💔💔💔 - “The way I see it, that’s the only way to save the rest of my crew! What good is ambition if I can’t even save the life of my captain” AWWW ZORO - “Luffy is the man who will become the king of the pirates” YOU TELL THEM🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ - AWWW NOT SANJI TRYING TO SAVE ZORO 🥹 - ACE?? EXECUTION?? - Not Robin listening in on the conversation she is so real for that - AWWWW HE IS CRYING ABOUT LABOON I hope they can reunite - Little laboon is sooo cute 🥹🥹 - IM CRYING 😭😭I feel so bad for Brook - awww he wants to save that memory for laboon 💔💔💔 - I love the cover art for chapter 489 - THE MEMORIAL THAT FRANKY BUILT?? THAT WAS SO SWEET IM SOBBING - Awwww that’s nice of Lola to give Nani a piece of her paper - OH SHOOT ACE - My babies have grown so much! - That pool looks so fun - Zoro’s training is going crazyyy - Mermaid!!! I see we have entered a new arc officially - Not luffy asking her how she poops 😭😭😭 - Is hatci the person I’m thinking of 👀👀
Review of volumes 46-50(Thriller Bark!!!!) For you Miss Lacobee. :)
From Water Seven The Straw Hat crew now consisting of Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Nami, Sanji, Robin, Chopper, and Franky, they sail into the florian triangle, a area of sea covered in fog, immediately they encounter a ghost ship with a talking skeleton aboard who seems friendly but then they are come upon by a massive ship called Thriller Bark which extends a wall around them in the water trapping their ship. And the skeleton runs inland on the Island ship of Thriller Bark. Eventually they learn the a Warlord of the Sea Gecko Moria is controlling an army of zombies using his devil fruits power, he steal peoples shadows and uses them to reanimate corpses. The crew meet multiple people who have had their shadow stolen and all want revenge on Gecko, one of who was the Skeleton, who is named Brook and had his shadow stolen a long time ago by Gecko.
Overall this arc isn't as much of a story trying to convey strong morals. In my opinion this arc is much more a themed spooky story, don't get me wrong its very enjoyable, infact its more enjoyable then most of the arcs before it (Most). But while it lacks a clear moral message, luffy still fights the evil oppression of Gecko Moria, and saves the people who had their shadows stolen simply because they helped luffy. This Arc is one of the more enjoyable ones because I think that the story design is what carries this arc, not any moral message. The story was simply very fun to read from beginning to ending.
