A Ray of Hope: Luffy's got some backup in his former enemies Buggy the Clown, Mr. 2 Bon Clay and Mr. 3 as he tries to rescue his brother from Impel Down prison. But now Warden Magellan, with his Venom-Venom powers, is out to stop him! Can Luffy survive such a dangerous attack from a person whose very breath is a deadly weapon, or could his ace in the hole possibly be a "queen"?
Eiichiro Oda (尾田栄一郎, Oda Eiichirō) is a Japanese manga artist, best known as the creator of the manga and anime One Piece.
As a child, Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama's works and aspired to become a manga artist. He recalls that his interest in pirates was probably sparked by the popular TV animation series titled Vicky the Viking. He submitted a character named Pandaman for Yudetamago's classic wrestling manga Kinnikuman. Pandaman was not only used in a chapter of the manga but would later return as a recurring cameo character in Oda's own works.

This is good! Better than what I've expected! Bon-chan's one of the best friendship that Luffy have! Ivankov is quite funny, and everyone's out of the jail! Wohoo, Crocodile! Jimbei!!!!
This volume felt like a large crescendo to the next couple of volumes. It feels things are getting serious and we may have a war coming up. I loved the build up of the suspense. I also love seeing how a friendship Luffy had made out of an enemy in a volume way back has paid off in this volume. I do feel like things are starting to drag with everything going on in Impel Down. However, things are looking really promising for the next volume!

"My emotions! My emotions!" I think that is the best description of my state after reading this. I forgot how good Impel Down is for its characters and especially Bon Clay. That swan boi destroyed my emotions. The core of One Piece is the characters and emotions and their journey. Now that Luffy is alone, we meet past enemies and it brings so much on the table. Luffy's friendship with Bon is just intoxicating with love, care, respect and devotion beyond limits.
The fight between Luffy and Magellan is so well done, it is haunting and terrifying how easily he fell. Other great additions to this roster of escapees are Ivankov and Jimbei and Crocodile, brining so much variety and different motivations.
IMPEL DOWN ARC - PART 2 1. shanks versus kaido, another one of the four emperors. everything is getting really really risky
2. luffy and the pirates he all defeated joined up (mr. 2 bon clay is a real one). also i'm pretty sure level four is as hot as iraq, at which case, i would survive
3. it's fucking crazy how incompetent the navy sometimes is. prisoners have opened up a new floor called new kama land, regularly stealing prisoners away, and the navy is none the wiser. i would LOVE to have the hormone fruit, that is actually so goated and helpful in so many situations. also, mr. 2 bon clay - i really do like him, and he fiercely believes in luffy. that is the meaning of friendship!! it transcends all difficulties
4. i go crazy when people miss each other by mere seconds. just as luffy arrived at level 6, they've taken the elevator up to level 1 again. THIS IS EXCRUCIATING
One Piece, Vol. 55 continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (533–541) of the on-going manga series.
This tankōbon continues the Impel Down Arc. Monkey D. Luffy is found by Magellan – the warden of Impel Down, who uses his abilities to poison to bring Luffy to the brink of death. Luffy's old friend Bon Clay (Baroque Works) locates the inmate Emporio Ivankov to heal him, but his recovery takes several hours. When he wakes up he finds Portgas D. Ace has already been taken to Marine Headquarters for execution.
Determined to save him, Luffy rallies the support of Iva and two of Impel Down's most dangerous prisoners: Sir Crocodile and Jimbei. Together they lead a prison break that spreads throughout Impel Down.
This tankōbon is written and illustrated by Eiichirō Oda. For the most part it is written and constructed rather well. It continues the Impel Down Arc that has Monkey D. Luffy confronting Magellan, who has the ability that allows him to generate and manipulate poison as well as making him immune to any type of poison. After his recovery, Luffy hears that Portgas D. Ace, his brother, has already been moved to Headquarters getting ready to be executed. So, he plans a prison break to focus everyone’s attention away from his brother.
All in all, One Piece, Vol. 55 is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems really intriguing and I can't wait to read more.
Volume 55: Chapter 533-541 Saga 6: Summit War Arc 21: Impel Down
Luffy, Bon Clay, Buggy and Mr. 3 arrived at Level 4. Chief Warden, Magellan started to deploy their guards to block the exits.
Luffy fights Magellan. Magellan used Doku Doku no Mi that he can emits poison from his body. Luffy lose the fight and being thrown to Level 5. Bon Clay is coming back and saving Luffy. They were attacked by a pack of fierce wolf. Once again, Luffy used his Haoshoku no Haki.
Both of them were saved by Emporio Ivankov and Inazuma. They were brought to the secret level, Level 5.5 also known as New Kama Land. Ivankov can change people's gender. So, basically, he/she is the lord of transvestite. Lol. (Rainbow people might love this arc 💩).
Ivankov save Luffy by taking his 10 years of life. Ivankov is from Revolutionary Army and knows that Luffy is Dragon's son. He then helps Luffy going to Level 6 where the most notorious criminals were prisoned. The names including Shiryuu, former Impel Down's Chief Warden, Catarina Devon, Vasco Shot and Avallo Pizarro.
Ace was transferred to the execution site, Marineford. Luffy, Ivankov and Inazuma released Crocodile and Jinbe to help them. They also released numerous other prisoners to cause an uproar.
Its the breakout saga, as luffy is navigating the prison to search for his brother, he goes through the various levels and meets up with Mr 2, Mr 3 and even Buggy and ultimately stumbles onto Ivankov (gender bender dude) and like he helps him out to get cured after his fight with the warden and thus this volume is mostly the story about what he does now, how he defeats different people by teaming up with former Schibukai Crocodile and Jinbe and thus beginning of the marineford saga! Its epic and like really long read, seems like Oda has put his all into this arc and it shows!
533: Level 4: Inferno Hell 534: Warden Magellen vs. Pirate Luffy 535: Friend 536: Level 5: Frozen Hell 537: A Ray of Hope 538: Level 5.5: New Kama Land 539: Emporio Energy Hormone 540: Level 6: Infinite Hell 541: The Greatest Ever
At first I was like: "Huh?? Wtf? Okay, now Oda's finally going too far." The next chapter I was like: "Oh. No. Should have trusted Oda. This is kinda cool."
