Petal Olson was going right to the top of the corporate ladder. After nearly fifteen years of hard work, she’s now an executive at one of the biggest power companies on the West Coast. Her dreams are within reach, even if the journey has left her cold, distant, and single. When disaster strikes a critical hydro dam in a tiny community, it’s her job to be on the scene and supervise the recovery. Once there though, Petal quickly realizes things in sleepy little Surrey are anything but normal.
Alexander “Lex” Cronus is a werewolf and a power line worker. The forest-covered hills around his town allow him to run free and wild whenever he wants. He loves it, but lately he’s been wishing he wasn’t running alone. While he’s lived much of his life without a mate, when the big-time corporate hotshot arrives to coordinate the recovery efforts to his town’s power grid, Lex knows that everything has just changed.
When she uses her position to tag along on a survey expedition of the main line from the dam to the city, neither of them have any idea what will happen next. But after a second freak storm hits Surrey and they become trapped, Petal finds that all the authority in the world is useless. She must rely on the no-nonsense man who has already saved her life once if she hopes to get back alive. With the power out and the temperature outside dropping quickly, the temperature between the two starts to heat up.
Petal has a lot to learn about life in a small town, and even more to learn about this town. After all, things aren’t quite as they seem. Not even the weather…
This is a complete standalone story with no cliffhanger and a happy ending for everyone but the bad guys.
Amelia Jade loves to write the stories of tall, growly shifter men and the women who come to love them. Living out in the back-country near the mountains, she keeps her own alpha male close by, to keep the bears away and keep her warm. In her down time (which is rare), she loves to read science-fiction with a dash of fantasy. You can often find her curled up in front of the real wood-burning fireplace, her nose firmly buried in a book or her favorite ereader. The cold can't bother her there!

This was a freebie I spotted on Amazon by a new to me author. If honest I saw the title and cover art and expected a dragon shifter story until I read the synopsis. I actually liked that Petal the heroine was slightly older although initially I didn't particularly warm to her personality which was clearly intentional by the author. The story actually allowed Petal to grow as a person and decide what was really important to her and just what wasn't. Lex is the alpha werewolf protecting his territory but when we meet him not everything is going to plan. Still he sees something in Petal that others don't and their time together allows Petal to push down the walls she has built. The danger they face isn't revealed until the end which obviously kept the suspense going which I really liked. So why only a three ? For me there was just something off about their interactions and the dialogue. It's difficult to say exactly what it lacked for me as it is an interesting story and there is a happy ending which I prefer. I really wanted to rate this higher but as I did struggle with their humour and conversations at times so alas a three it is but perhaps I would enjoy other stories by this author
So what I'm trying to do is combat my tbr that I know I won't get to unless I force myself.
This turned out to be a pretty okay book. I kinda expected it to be fluff and for some reason this was pegged as a dragonshifter book in my head so I wasn't expecting much of a plot. But for a book its size it delivered.
It isn't the best I've read and the romance could use some work and I can't say I'm a huge fan of our h, while I did like our H, it all would have been so much better is it were more fleshed out. I understand life and death situations creating bonds between people but in my opinion that's not enough for "true love".
It would have been a whole lot better if I could have seen it all happen, you know?
Getting into a new series after enjoying something different from the author took me a moment to like this story. Hey, I am honest about how I read books. When I started this book I kept thinking I don't like this story very much but I continued to read it regardless. So glad I did as the author took this story in a different direction which is not a bad thing but for me it took a moment to get use to it.
A lone wolf finds his Petal. A Petal not looking for commitment but finding something she lost along the way. Together they will banish the past and protect the future.
A truly well written story of finding something you really did not know that was missing.
I have voluntarily read and reviewed this story without obligation to do so.
A fun paranormal romance with a HEA for the MCs, Furnace from the Fated Mate Romance Series by Amelia Jade ticks all the shifter boxes. At 35, Petal Olsen is CEO of the power firm Alexander 'Lex' Cronus is line boss of, at its rural branch in Surrey. Having had to fight her way over the last 15 years to the top, Petal has sacrificed any vestiges of a personal life, so it's business all the way as far as she's concerned when she comes to Surrey to oversee the workforce and their productivity. Lex is a 150 year old werewolf who guards his mountain forest home from all outsiders running free in the wilderness, but deep inside he longs for a Mate to end the emptiness he feels. As Nature goes rogue and disaster looms, a sudden change of circumstance throws these unlikely individuals together. Can they put aside their differences and bring about a positive outcome and avert the terrible peril the town is in? Buy this exciting novel and settle back to enjoy a romantic suspense story with an ending you could never predict - you'll love it just as I did!
I like Lex, he was a strong character. He was an alpha type werewolf. He knew who he was and he wasn't going to put up with people putting him down and treating him like he was nothing. He worked as a lineman in the town of Surrey. So when a big storm came through he had to go restore the electricity to the town. Petal is a corporate executive of the branch that includes Surrey. She comes to town to oversee the repairs. She has a reputation as a b*tch. The first thing she does is take over for the local boss. She then starts treating everyone like they are uneducated, idiot hillbillies. Lex turns her words around on her and she starts to get irritated. She gives him and the other crews their work orders. Then she decides to go out to check on the crews. She interrupts Lex's crews work. When he points out that they would be done with the current job if she wasn't bothering them, she leaves. When he gets back to the office Lex needs to go check on a section of lines to see where the problems are. Petal invites herself along. Another storm comes and traps them. Find out what happens to them when they are stuck together. She does end up redeeming herself. Also find out what is causing these storms. Interesting story. I am hoping that more stories follow.
He's a century and half old werewolf. She's a thirty-five y year old human. Could they really be mates? She's his boss, seven times removed, a division supervisor at corprorate headquarters. He's a lowly line boss outdoors at a dam were there has been major damage did to 2 freak storms in the last week. Can they possibly make this work? She's a city gidlq, he's a wolf who is the guardian of his valley, how can this work? To find the answers to these questions and more you have to read this book in Fated Mates series. The writing is outstanding, the characters well developed and very sympathetic and a storyline that will warm your heart. Highly recommended.
This is the first book I've read by this author. This story was interesting to say the least. I enjoyed how Lex was the only person who was not intimidated by a woman with so much authority. Petal was one of those bosses who was in a position to make people fear her since she was the head huncho. Since Petal was the first person to visit Surrey from the corporate office Lex refuse to allow someone to get under his skin. He didn't allow people to get in his way or push him around. Interesting read
This was a really good story. I loved Petal and Lex, and thought that they were an adorable couple. The story was interesting and flowed nicely, and was fun to read. I jumped right into reading it as soon as I got my hands on it and finished it the very same day. Overall, one of my favorites by this author. I was gifted a copy.
Power knocked out, freak storms, a cold birch (maybe not) from corporate to oversee the repairs has met her match in a lineman that has her knees knocking and heart jumping out of her chest. Of course there's saving of the damsel from supernatural forces! Great 👍 read.
4.5 stars for an interesting new direction from Ms Jade. A new direction for this author which took me a little while to warm too due to not liking the heroine Petal at first. Once this book starting ticking along and the real Petal started to show, combined with the hunky wolf shifter hero Lex, I loved it. Interesting story with a sub plot forming which could be interesting. Wrapped up just a little too fast with the sprite, but really enjoyed the ending. This is my honest review of this book.
A romance with a bumpy and almost broken storyline.
The story seemed a little fracutered. It was a likeable book for the most part, it felt like it was still missing parts. I finished the book and was left with that feeling when you know you have no interest to read further even if there was another book next. Truthfully it wasn't for me, but it really could appeal more to others. I always like to say that if the storyline intrigues you to give it a chance. I have found many new authors that way.
1.5 stars. I give one and half stars instead of only one because I managed to read it until the end, even if many parts were read very fast. I didn't care much for the characters, nor their romance. A few elements were sort of cute or interesting (like the way Lex asked Petal to marry him or who was the villain of the story: I didn't see that coming) but everything else felt underdeveloped. Still the writing style wasn't bad so I am curious to try more books by the author hoping they will be better.
I loved Lex and Petal’s story. It had a captivating and intriguing storyline that had action, mystery, and romance. I loved the characters, they made such a sweet couple who had a sizzling chemistry and great connection. It was a entertaining story that flowed smoothly. A very enjoyable read. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
2.5 stars, disappointing. It had all the right elements, H was strong, alpha shifter, h is mature and smart, and I liked them both. There were supernatural elements, but it was long winded and repetitious. I got bored and skipped pages just to finish.
As usualn Jade has written a wonderful story filled with excitement, suspense, hairpin turns, and romance. I can usually figure out what I think will happen, but she threw in a few things I was definitely not expecting. Loved the story!
Amelia Jade is a great storyteller who has created many wonderful characters. Lex and Petal join those ranks her in Furnace. Their story is very engaging, the dialogue snappy and funny and the action and love scenes are very exciting. I hope there will be lots more to come.
This book has some realistic action in it and then it gets freaky! The weather goes wild and crazy, mates meet and misbehave, and all hell breaks loose.
If you are into the supernatural, you'll fall in love with this one!
I liked this book, a little long winded in parts but overall really good. The only problem I had was that I don't get the title. It has nothing to do with fire and at first I thought it was about a dragon shifter, which it is not.
What a whirlwind romance for two old timers ...I have never laughed so hard at all the silly antics and smart alexed comments. Thank you it was fun reading! I throughly enjoyed my afternoon on Lex & Petal’s crazy adventures.
This story starts off with a dangerous seemingly natural event that brings the two main characters together. Lex and Pearl's story begin with a survivor type event and then segways into a test of love and supernatural beings.
This is one of the best books that I've read by Amelia for a while. The characters were great and I enjoyed how Lex was pretty much just an average guy - even if he was a werewolf! And I really liked how he reminded Petal who she really was.
Enjoyable story, but as a warning I was expecting a continuation of the story line from the previous Fated Mates books but this is a completely separate world. Still a good story just a bit surprised by that!
I was a little sad to leave Cadia behind but I rather enjoyed this new story and getting to know Lex and Petal! I rather enjoy paranormal stories and the different twists authors add in
Enjoyable book and easy to read, and I'm looking forward to reading more books by Amelia Jade, I will also recommend Amelia Jade books to family and friends.
