Into the Storm

Rate this book
Bestselling author Suzanne Brockmann blends high adventure, harrowing drama, and heart-racing passion into thrilling novels of suspense. Whether tackling danger or wrestling with desire, her elite heroes and heroines never fail to give their all, in stories that soar above and beyond expectations. Now, in this electrifying novel, Brockmann takes us Into the Storm.

In a remote, frozen corner of New Hampshire, a Navy SEAL team and the elite security experts of Troubleshooters, Incorporated are going head-to-head as fierce but friendly rivals in a raid-and-rescue training exercise. Despite the frigid winter temperatures, tension smolders between veteran SEAL Petty Officer Mark “Jenk” Jenkins and former cop turned Troubleshooter Lindsey Fontaine after an impulsive night goes awry. And then, suddenly, Tracy Shapiro, the Troubleshooters’ new receptionist, vanishes while playing the role of hostage during a mock rescue operation.

Teaming up with the FBI to launch a manhunt in the treacherous wilderness, Jenk and Lindsey must put aside their feelings as a record snowstorm approaches, dramatically reducing any hope of finding Tracy alive. The trail is colder than the biting New England climate until a lucky break leads to a horrifying discovery– a brutally murdered young woman wearing the jacket Tracy wore when she disappeared. Suddenly there is a chilling certainty that Tracy has fallen prey to a serial killer– one who knows the backwoods terrain and who doesn’t play by the rules of engagement.

In a race against time, a raging blizzard, and a cunning opponent, Jenk and Lindsey are put to the ultimate test. Rising everything, they must finally come together in a desperate attempt to save Tracy–and each other.

the setup…
SEAL Team 16 is on standby for an impending Afghanistan op and their base commander thinks it’s a good use of their time to participate in a training exercise with members of Troubleshooters while they wait, which just happens to pit their former commander Tom Paoletti against the new one, Lew Koehl. They head out to frigid New Hampshire to stage the hostage rescue exercise. Bu there’s a lot brewing within the teams. SEAL Team 16 Petty Officer Mark (Jenk) Jenkins and Troubleshooter operative Lindsey Fontaine had a one night stand that went sideways just days before and things between them are tense. The beautiful but inept new Troubleshooters receptionist, Tracy Shapiro, is the cause for their current troubles as she’s proving to be quite the distraction for not only Jenk but others on the team. Then there’s the continuing drama between Troubleshooter operatives Sophia Ghaffari and Lawrence Decker, with poor lovestruck Dave Malkoff miserably serving as matchmaker. As if the personal drama wasn’t enough, things get real serious when Tracy turns up missing with a suspected serial killer at large in the middle of a snowstorm.

the heart of the story…
This is a reread for me, this time on audio, which made this feel like a new experience. I’d forgotten just how much was going on but this time was much more engaged in Lindsey and Jenk’s relationship. I remember not having a good sense about her but his time I found much to admire. She’s a former LAPD homicide detective and despite her small stature, she looms large in skills and acumen. Jenks was much more endearing, also being one of the shortest on the team but it’s his youthful demeanor that causes people underestimate him. I loved how their relationship developed, ramped up quickly but then forced to step back and deal with serious issues. What was again tiresome was the ongoing soap opera between Sophia, Decker and Dave, which didn’t seem to move the needle other than for Sophia and Decker to now be able to exist in the same space with less discomfort. And poor Dave…his heart is now fully exposed on his sleeve. Lastly, the segments involving the serial killer made my blood run cold. I could barely stand listening to those scenes. Shudder!

the narration…
I’m loving this duo’s performances and what was a standout in this one was the voice of Izzy Zanella, SEAL Team 16’s newest member and Mark’s best friend. He was a stitch to read but on audio, he was hilarious. Everything else about the listening experience made this a much better read the second time around.

the bottom line…
This one had everything…a sweet romance, lots of funny moments, soap opera drama and some serious excitement and tension. When Tracy disappeared, it got scary and the suspense was palatable. It was still fresh this second time around and listening made it an even better story. I just wish the Sophia/Decker/Dave situation would move forward. I like all three of them but not this unusual triangle. Otherwise, this was great.

10/20/2022 - I am amazed that nine years after I first read this book that I remembered so much of what happened. It is still just as wonderful the second time around as it was the first. I wouldn't change a thing from the first review. The audio version by Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank was fantastic. I loved it!

09/24/2013 - While not a humorous book, Into the Storm is filled with LOL comments and moments and a lot of guy humor that is so funny. Izzy is just wonderful as the SEAL Team 16 comedian. There must have been some really dark experiences for him. It is a great book and has a terrifying suspense and a great romance.

Into the Storm is the love story of Jenk and Lindsey, although Sophia and Deck, Sophia and Dave, Izzy and Tracy also get some page time. Lindsey was an LAPD cop until a tragic shooting and the death of her mother from cancer made her reevaluate her life and quit the force. She has joined the Troubleshooters team but carries the scars and doesn't let anyone to close. She really wants to have a sexual relationship with Jenk, even though she does not want a HEA with him.

Mark Jenkens had a really close call the last time Team 16 was in Afghanistan. He has decided that he really wants a wife and family before he dies, and he is done with short term relationships. Fate and a joint exercise throw Jenk and Lindsey together and they each think they will get what they want. Jenk really wants Tracy, the new receptionist, for his HEA and Lindsey wants a fling with no strings. Neither gets what they think they want, and Lindsey and Tracy almost get killed by a serial killer. Loved the way Tracy evolved from an airhead into a cool cucumber under pressure.

The Troubleshooter Security Team has joined Navy SEALs Team 16 on a joint training session in New Hampshire. Security Expert Lindsey Fontaine is reluctant to attend the training when she discovers that SEAL Petty Officer Mark Jenkins will be there. After a one-night stand, the two have been keeping their distance from each other. But they must put their differences aside when the training mission turns into a search and rescue when one of their team disappears.

Another enjoyable addition to Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series. I liked both Mark and Lindsey, even though I occasionally wanted to slap Mark for his obsession with the Troubleshooters new receptionist Tracy Shapiro. The other part of the book that kept me glued was the on-going story with Sophia, Decker and Dave. I'm trying to figure out how this one is going to end. I can't wait to find out. My rating: 4.5 Stars.

2022 Re-read: I'm re-reading the series with a Goodreads group. It's been several years since I read this book. It held up well. The action was great. I loved Mark and Lindsey's story. This time around the Sophia/Decker/Dave parts of the book were driving me a little crazy. I had forgotten all about Tracy, the inept receptionist at Troubleshooters. I loved how her character evolved over the course of the book. This time around I listened to the audio version narrated by Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbanks. Great job by both narrators. My rating is still 4.5 Stars.

I gave this audiobook a B for the story and B+ for the narration at AudioGals

Narrated by Patrick Lawlor and Melanie Ewbank

Lovers of romantic suspense titles are surely familiar with Suzanne Brockmann’s Troubleshooters series. With over 16 titles, not counting novellas, this is one of the longest running SEAL & private, elite security experts romantic suspense series around. However, I had not yet had a chance to experience the magic of this series, so when I saw the Blackstone Audio released a new version of this audio in May 2016, I jumped at the chance to review it.

For those of you who are wondering if Into the Storm can be read as a standalone, the answer is yes. While you will get the most enjoyment out of listening to this series in order (since many of the main characters have been introduced in prior books), the romantic arc of this couple and the immediate suspense arc is primarily contained in this book.

Audio book review

I've read this series many times. The audio is good. Read the series mostly in order but I did skip this one to stay with my favorite characters. This is a good story and fun, serial killer aside. Lots going on! You really do need to read these in order (first timers) because character interactions and backstory would be missed or confusing without reading earlier books. Overall 4.5 stars

DNF 50% Bored.

The interpersonal drama is only tolerable if you really like the characters and they are hot. Not the case here.

Also the serial killer part weighed the story down.

Overall, just not entertaining.

This book had it all: Suspense, love, funny characters and hot sex. Now that's a good book if you ask me. If you haven't tried the Troubleshooter Series then you're missing out. This is the 10th book in the series and Into the Storm does not disappoint. I don't know how Ms. Brockmann is able to write such amazing, flawed, deeply relatable characters (for Navy SEALS and FBI agents :) But she does and it's so very fun to read...

Into the Storm is the story of Mike "Jenk" Jenkins and Lindsay finding their way together. Here is what I want to say about Lindsay, the women brings the funny and then brings the nasty bitch and at the end they balance each other out but it's fun to read. She makes some mistakes and comes to a few false conclusions that she then has to talk her way out of but it's almost fun to see her squirm through the process.

"I used the wrong word," Jenk told her, and as she looked into his eyes, she realized that she'd been wrong about him. Intensity, determination, assertiveness, fortitude. He had it all, along with an inability to understand the word quit. "I shouldn't have said skinny. I should have said willowy, or I don't know… graceful. Delicate maybe. Bottom line, I happen to think you're extremely beautiful. And, yes, very nicely proportioned."

Mr. Jenkins... he's not your typical alpha male, but that's what you have to love about him. He's at the peek of his game, strong, fit, comfortable in his life but something is missing. I have to say that his respect and understanding for Lindsay's time as an LAPD officer and now her working for the Troubleshooters is one of the things I adore about him. This sums up Mike Jenkin's perfectly...

The night he'd fallen in love with Lindsey but was too stupid to know it. It was also clear, just as she'd pointed out that night, that she really hadn't needed a team of Navy SEALs to save her. She done just fine by herself.

Can we finally get to my man Izzy: The man brought the funny and in the process stole my heart. He's confident but underneath it all he's a little insecure, thats why he's always making joke. He's your friend that you always go to to bring you out of that funk and when you face down the enemy you cannot help but need that. His ability to break up the hunt for a killer and the stressful job as on the Navy's elite SEAL 16 team is what makes Izzy such a valuable character to this story. I cannot wait to see who Brockmann puts him with.

Here are some Izzy funny moments:

"Whoa," Izzy said. "Wait. You two've been telling dick jokes without me?" "We prefer to call them Johnson jokes," Jenk said, with a completely straight face. "It's classier."

"Time-out," Izzy proclaimed. "Can we not give these people names? The rich family is Horace and Prudence Peckerfart and their son Dick. No relation to Gillman - or is there? Say this for us, Daniel: Zounds! That scoundrel stole Mumsy's necklace!"

Lets not leave out the love Triangle: Dave, Sophia and Deck Honestly at this point i'd just like one of those men to make a move... anyone? I mean, Sophia has it all. She's beautiful, smart, capable of taking care of herself and is finally ready to move on. It's like Dave and Deck, best friends are stumbling over each other. It's almost unbearable to read but you cannot get enough. I did have hope at the end of Into the Storm that Deck had finally decided to just talk with her... Let's just say I cannot wait to find out what happens to these three.

Before I conclude this review... I want to say that I have the utmost respect for our armed forces, they do a job that at times is thankless, they're often away from the ones they love and make sacrifices most Americans cannot comprehend. I commend Brockmann for writing these SEALS with flaws because they're human. I heard this song the other day and I immediately thought of these characters...

Keith Urban - For You

In conclusion, if you're looking for an action packed story , deeply layered and fun characters and a little romance mixed it, then you should check out the Troubleshooter Series I have enjoyed reading about these character and each book builds upon the next in a way that your think of these characters are family. I cannot wait to read Jules book... along with the rest of the Troubleshooters.

Into the Storm, the 10th installment of the Troubleshooters series, seems to have taken a turn from the prior books. What I've always liked about Brockmanns's writing is her ability to weave together different storylines in a seamless fashion, mixing suspense and romance wonderfully. In this case, I felt like the story was a bit of a patchwork quilt - different stories put together, but not necessarily integrated as fluidly as I'd like. There were two areas that seemed most disconnected:

First, the psycho-killer storyline was a bit of a stretch for me. It didn't really integrate much into the story until the later half, which in turn translated into many of the suspense elements being pushed to the end. In addition, I really liked seeing the SEALs square off against terrorists or fanatic organizations. Having the villain be a loon with a penchant for torture was certainly disturbing, but didn't have the same level of drama, suspense and intrigue.

Second, Tracy, the Troubleshooters secretary, played a major role in the story. In fact, I wonder whether she had more airtime than our heroine Lindsay. I kept wondering why she was in so many scenes. That her character was overly needed, insecure and high maintenance (not my favorite type of woman) made my question her significance to the story that much more.

The ray of sunshine for me in this book was the mini-novella at the end featuring Alyssa, Sam and Jules, who continue to be my three favorite characters in the series. Also, Dave Malkoff, with his undying support for Sophia, is quickly moving up the charts.

Finally!!

What's the #1 thing Wendy F loves in her reading material?! Romance, check! What's the #2 thing Wendy F loves in her reading material? Comedy! Check! Finally, check check check!

Don't get me wrong, there were some chuckle moments in the other Troubleshooter books, but this one had the one liners all over the place. Lindsay and Izzy brought this one to life. Many times I found myself literally laughing outloud and that is a first in these books.

Lindsey is a former LAPD agent who now works for Troubleshooters Inc. That girl is craaaaazy, but in the best possible way. It reminded me of reading Jane in BDB. She was all full of snappy comebacks, and I couldn't get enough of it.

---"I mean, I'm sure she's just feeling her way, first days and all," Lindsay added, putting on what she hoped would be perceived as an optimistic expression. "I mean, we've all had 'em, right? First days. Kind of scary. Kind of overwhelming..."
"Absolutely," Jenk said, flashing her a grateful smile.
And first days of work had to be doubly hard for Tracy, who'd apparently been intercepted midway through her quest to see the Wizard and finally get a brain.
Cleverly, Lindsey didn't say THAT aloud.

---"Without makeup, I look about twelve."
He looked at her-really looked.
"Being flat chested helps with the illusion," she said. "I'm five feet and three-eighths of an inch tall-you better believe I count every eighth. I'm also the same age as my bra size - 30A. The A is for my four-oh average at UCLA, which I attended before my seven years with the LAPD." She smiled at him. "I'm one of Tom's best bodyguards, by the way. I specialize in the protection of people who might not want their friends, business associates, and/or enemies to know they're being protected. Because I could tell that YOU were wondering." she'd stunned him, so she turned to Tom who was now flat-out grinning, "Red Cell, huh? So you called me in here, boss, because you want me to play the part of Dr. Evil, the terrorist master-mind, right?"
Lindsey liked Tom for a lot of reasons, but particularly because she made him laugh. Some people didn't get her sense of humor, although Cutie-pie Jenkins seemed to be on the same page after he'd shaken off his shock.
"Sorry, I'm the terrorist mastermind of this one," Tom told her. "It was a direct request from Admiral Tucker."
Ah. "Which makes me..." She let her voice trail off. "Mini Me?"

Our sexy, funny little Asian American Lindsey meets cute freckled Jenk and sparks fly right away. Lindsey keeps Jenk on his toes and they are so sweet. The humor and the banter in the beginning kept a smile on my face the whole time. And when the drama started it wasn't your typical romance relationship where the man is afraid, and the women is hurt. This time it was LINDSEY who was running from commitment and JENK who wanted to settle down and ready for love. A switcheroo! I enjoyed every moment.

And Regina! Cause I know you're gonna read this! IZZY! OMG, he was incredible! Definitely my favorite character so far. He was so funny! Even when he was being a pighead sexist I was cracking up. I couldn't even be angry:

The situation was obvious to anyone with eyes. Decker- the lucky bastard -had, at some point in the past, thrown Sophia a bang. She, the way most women did, had wanted a Re-Lay-Tion-Ship, Decka-roonie had activated his super-Y chromosome, exfiltrated pronto, and now, whenever they did an eyeball to eyeball, awkwardness ensued.
Meanwhile, crazy Dave Malkoff, who spent a lot of time pretending to be fair Sophia's friend when what he REALLY wanted was to get in her panties, was jealous. Hence the meltdown Izzy had just witnessed.
Case closed.

That right there had me wiping laugh tears off my cheeks. He seriously found a way to simplify things in the Izzy way. I really hope he's in every single book going forward because he has been the most interesting and creative character we've met so far. I know he was there from the beginning, but I really feel like this is the first time that we've really got a handle on his personality and what makes him tick and it was brilliant. Especially because you know that underneath that flippant guy is someone really vulnerable. (I'm totally in love.)

Last funny, promise. :)

"Right. A piece of jewelry-a necklace-goes missing from this rich family's suite, and the gardener's accused of taking it. He swears he's innocent, that the son set him up, but no one believes him and they haul him off to jail."
"Time-out," Izzy proclaimed. "Can we not give these people names? The rich family is Horace and Prudence Peckerfart and their son Dick. No relation to Gillman - or is there? Say this for us, Daniel:
Zounds! That scoundrel stole Mumsy's necklace!"

A gripping and exciting romantic suspense novel, and a worthy entry into this long series. I really enjoyed this one. I just had to skim through the scenes with the serial killer. They were too graphic and confronting for me. (You can tell I'm not a fan of the TV series Criminal Minds LOL). But yes, he did get got in the end, so that was quite satisfying.

I recommend reading this series in order because familiar characters from earlier books pop up all the time, and it adds to the enjoyment when you know their history.

Into the Storm
4 Stars

A joint raid-and-rescue training mission between SEAL Team 16 and Troubleshooters, Inc. takes a dangerous turn when one of the team members vanishes without a trace. Petty Officer Mark Jenkins and former police officer Lindsay Fontaine must put aside their personal history stemming from a one-night-stand in order to work together before the missing woman becomes the latest victim of a sadistic serial killer.

While this is more enjoyable than the previous book, especially in terms of Mark and Lindsay's romance, there are still some issues.

To begin with, for a group of well-trained Navy SEALs and covert operatives, there is a great deal of immaturity, drama, and angst with the characters. They all gossip like teenagers in high school, and Sophia and Decker's behavior is particularly childish.

Moreover, there has been a sense over the series that Brockmann is recycling character types. This is particularly evident here with Mark's preoccupation with Tracey, which is comparable to Ken Carmody and his ex. While Mark's actions in this regard are questionable, Lindsay's reactions are appropriate, and it is all resolved in a realistic, believable and satisfying way.

On a side note Tracey, unlike some of the "other women" characters in the series, actually proves to be quite likable. Her experiences over the course of the book reveal hidden depths and it will be interesting to see where Brockmann goes with her.

In terms of the suspense, the serial killer plot is new to the series, which has until now focused mainly on terrorists and assassins. This change is compelling as the villain is very disturbing and the POV of one of his victims ratchets up the tension. The climax and resolution are well-written and exciting.

All in all, this is an entertaining read overall, and I look forward to the next installment in which we return to the FBI...

I enjoyed this one, 10th in series, even though, or maybe because, it is a bit of a break from previous novels. This time the Troubleshooters are tasked with a military exercise in conjunction with Seal Team Sixteen and their new commander. While in New Hampshire, the ditzy secretary, playing the part of a nurse / hostage, gets kidnapped by a serial killer. The teams join together to find her in the climax and it was good.

There are several storylines here. The main one involves Lindsey and Jenk (Mark Jenkins). They are actually pretty fun as a couple - Lindsey is an Asian American ex-cop and no one's shrinking violet. Jenk is a SEAL who is wanting to settle down - with Ms Wrong. When Lindsey comes into his life, he begins to re-evaluate his choices. There is plenty of chemistry between them. There are other side romances and potential set-ups for future novels in the series: Izzy and Tracy (OMG - Izzy is a hottie who's also a hoot! and it looks like he is ); Dave, Deck, and Sophia - can we *please* get something going here? Someone needs to make a move; there's even a bonus short story for a glimpse at Jules. So there is plenty of romantic action for every taste - sweet, funny, in-between.

Quote I liked:

It was not his life as he'd lived it that flashed through his mind, but rather the people he'd loved.

Yay! I finally was able to get this book from my local library. I just love this series. Brockmann has created such a fabulous continuity with SEAL Team 16 and Troubleshooters Inc. Books with recurring characters are my absolute fav.

Into The Storm was a great read. I really enjoyed it. Lots of different dynamics in this story. Though the series is military/security based, this book has a more general plotline. Brockmann always has a nice variety of plots in the series. Some are purely military, others are more general. The variety keeps the series from getting typical. The serial killer plot was a nice addition...though thoroughly creepy. The bad guy was just downright evil. I will say that maybe Brockmann could have played up the serial killer plot just a little bit more. I mean, it was the suspense part of the book, but it had a slightly side-note feel to it. Not that it really detracted from the story, but I wouldn't have minded a bit more of a focus on it. And I would have liked a little more at the end to close out that part of the story.

The romance was pretty good. Mark and Lindsey by far aren't my favorite couple of the series, but I did enjoy them, more than some of the other couples. There's a nice progression to the relationship and they work well together. The characters are nicely rounded. I really liked Lindsey for the most part...her issues got a little annoying, but I loved her sense of humor. Mark was a good guy as well, but maybe not at well rounded as Lindsey. He didn't seem to have as much depth as some other characters.

The side-stories of the book were fabulous. I love the whole Sophia/Decker thing and am eagerly awaiting their book. Brockmann is once again building a great super-couple, making us readers really suffer and root for them before they work things out. And I liked the depth she added to Sophia's character. I wasn't too sure about her in her first book, but she's really grown on me. And I loved Izzy in this book. He cracked me up...but I'm really hoping that Brockmann doesn't decide to pair him with Tracey. She annoyed the crap out of me. She's just not heroine material. I'm also really curious about what Brockmann has planned for Beth...according to the new SEAL Team 16/Troubleshooters guide on her website, Beth is a new recurring character.

One thing I do have to complain about in this book was the hints of Nash/Tess trouble. Tess and Nash were the hero/heroine leads in Flashpoint...they had their story, you're given to believe they've got it all worked out, but there were to comments in Into The Storm that lead one to believe otherwise. One was Tracey telling Deck that Nash and Tess were having problems and the second was Nash being out drinking while all the others were working. It was just kind of annoying to have 2 such vague comments dropped in and then never explored or no clarification that there really were serious issues with them. So now I just keep wondering what's really going on with them and hate the idea of having to wait to know.

Anyway, really enjoyed reading ITS. It was a good book for the series. I can't wait for more and am glad Brockmann has no intention of ending the series.

Really 4.5stars
During a combined training exercise in a freak snowstorm, TSI receptionist Tracy is kidnapped by a particularly brutal and elusive serial killer. As the team searches for Tracy, relationships form, blossom and solidify for the series future.
The alpha hotties of SEAL Team 16 and the alpha hotties of Trouble Shooters Inc in one great read and for me one of the better ones of the series (possibly because I wasn't a fan of the last outing). This installment has the teams merging for training exercises but since this is a romantic suspense series the characters were dodging as many bullets as they were Cupid's arrows. This read also veered away from the usual formula of the series as there was no decades old romance paralleling the modern day romance. This installment was also heavier on romance than usual. There was a wonderful climactic action scene and good opening action scene but fewer than usual action sets pieces. Overall, I liked the blended teams and hope it continues to pay off for the series.
The leads are sweet SEAL Mark (Jenk) Jenkins who is torn between the woman he's always wanted (Tracy Shapiro) and the woman he now wants sassy Trouble Shooter Lindsay Fontaine and they make the love triangle an understandable and almost sensible thing. So understanding and sensible that there were multiple triangles. Luckily I liked all the characters or this could have been a miserable read. While the leads were fun and interesting and didn't forget it was their star turns, they did share the stage with other characters from both teams equally. Jenk & Lindsay shared great chemistry as a couple but each shined just as brightly while interacting with the everyone else. This long running series has such well developed characters that you have no problems distinguishing their individual voices. The storyline worked really well to bring both major series threads together effortlessly and made it make sense to have the teams in such proximity for the romance and suspense portions.
This is still one of my favorite series that I am tempted to give 5stars because I enjoyed the characters so much

Into the Storm: In which Suzanne Brockmann has finally managed to work her way through pretty much all of Seal Team Sixteen and suddenly realizes that maybe she needs a new schtick to hang her hat (and her series) on, and thus we move from terrorists foreign and domestic to serial killers, which don't require such a Naval response.

To be fair, this transition is sort of a work-in-progress, having started in Hot Target and continuing on for another book or two after Into the Storm, but this is where I really started to feel like we were saying goodbye to original Seal Team Sixteen series and moving to Troubleshooters territory.

For those not quite as interested in a meta overview of Brockmann's oeuvre: SEAL Petty Officer Mark Jenkins has been crazy about his sister's bestie Tracy Shapiro since they were in high school together, which is why he helps her get a job at his former commander Tom Paoletti's new Troubleshooters, Inc. office. Unfortunately, Tracy isn't much of an admin, or able to look past the freckled-faced kid Jenk used to be. Former cop Lindsey Fontaine, however, has no problem seeing Jenk for the good deal he is...or would be, if he could just get past his Tracy fixation. Lines are crossed, messages are mixed, and everyone's pretty well pissed off at each other...and that's before they wind up trapped in New England during the storm of the century with a serial killer on the loose.

In pivoting away from her former style to more traditional thrillers, Brockmann also leaves behind the parallel historical plotlines she's famous for. I won't lie about being a little sad to see those go, but it does leave her more room to set up her secondary characters for their eventual Happily Ever Afters. (Izzy, Deck, and Dave? You're clearly up soon.) Despite all the transitional heavy lifting going on, Into the Storm manages to stay just fast-paced, action-packed, and quippy as the rest of Brockmann's fabulous series, which looks to have weathered this Storm just fine.

I loved a lot of things about this book. A lot! There are 2 things I didn't love:

- one is the horrible serial killer. I admit, I skipped the most of the scenes with him because it was too horrible for me to read.

- the second one was Tracy Shapiro ("Troubleshooters Incorporated's remarkably inept new receptionist" - citing). I hate women whose whole thinking process revolves only about shoes and bags! And this person was a sort of wonderful empty space between her ears! But she got some revenge and, even if I cannot say I like her, she did some redeem towards the end. But if I won't read about her in the future, I won't cry!

Besides that, I loved "Jenk” Jenkins and former cop turned Troubleshooter Lindsey Fontaine! They were sizzling! Very fun to read, even if she was a bit hard to understand in her refusing such a prize as Jenk!

Really he was great! I think I fell in love with him and I want him as my ideal man.

Besides this book has this great idea to make TS work with Tom Paoletti's former SEAL Team Sixteen. I loved the interaction and everything!

Another person I really loved and I cannot wait for a story all for her, is Sophia. In this book she has some great scenes and my heart is bleeding for the poor Dave, who loves her and who's not the right person for her!

Going on the next one!

Another great read in this series! Suspense & romance at its best! I'm running out of good things to say about these books. Love the multiple plot lines, the depth of the characters, and the way this author flawlessly weaves it all together. Jenk is just solid - strong, steady, protective...but blind as a bat about his feelings for Lindsey in the beginning. He's got a plan all laid out & can see his future unfolding - just with the wrong woman. Lindsey is no fainting flower in need of a big, bad SEAL to rescue her. She can handle herself & then some. It takes the snowstorm of the century and a serial killer to finally make them face some truths.

Also loved getting a little more of Decker & Sophia...along with Dave. Seriously want to shake some sense into Decker - but I guess I'll have to wait for his story to be told. In each book, it seems like there's one character who slips in and steals (or almost steals) the show. In Into The Storm, it is Izzy. Izzy is funny - always the joker - but we get a glimpse of the man underneath in this one. There's much more than meets the eye with Izzy, and I can't wait to read his story. Suspense + Laughter + Romance = A Must Read!

The beginning of the story is definitely worth a 5-star rating. I really liked the scenes when I could read into one character's sarcastic thoughts about what was going on : one of the best was the Tracy-Jenk dating pre-mating ritual, seen through Izzie's eyes, that had me laugh.
I usually like when the hero believes a very wrong woman is his perfect mate, while being attracted unconsciously to another. I found it quite funny that Lindsey was in fact so similar to Izzie, whom Jenks spend quite a lot of time with since the former saved his life. Both Lindsey and Izzie have a highly developed sense of humour which they both use to the perfection when willing to avoid a particular discussion or any situation where feelings might overwhelm them.
The second part of the story, in New Hampshire, sometimes seemed a bit long. Lots of small info was provided on most couples which made it a bit more difficult for me to follow and to sympathize, as I'm reading the series in complete disorder. However it really made me dying to read the others.
Well I may have to remedy that and try to do it more orderly this time ;)

I read Into the Storm fast and found I liked it MUCH better than Hot Target. This one at least kept the focus (mostly) on the two main protagonists.

I suppose I got through it fast because I skimmed the psycho killer stuff. When people ask what plot themes in Romance are getting tired, I have a difficult time coming up with an answer. If it's done well, I don't mind reading the same plot over and over. The psycho killer plot however, is wearing thin. Linda Howard did it best with Dream Man- time to lay it to rest now.

In Into the Storm I liked Lindsey, the heroine, in fact- I felt like she was the first heroine, in a long time, that I could identify with. (minus her being Asian and her family history.) However, I didn't buy her excuses for staying away from Jenks- the hero. That got tiresome after awhile.

As far as the rest ... Sophie and Decker remain compelling- their backstory is intense (first introduced in "Flashpoint). Izzy's fun and I like Dave. Tracey, however, needs to get lost.

Good candy read, not too rich, but fun to consume!

So, I apparently missed a lot of Brockmanns back when they were first released so I'm going back to catch up. I'm really glad I finally read this one in particular because I loved Jenk and Lindsey together. Not only was it refreshing to read a short hero for a change, but I also just loved him as a character. And Lindsey was kick ass and fun too. Of course there was also a lot of background on the Decker/Sophia/Dave triangle and I can see why the shippers were ultimately disappointed. But, I can also see where Brockmann planted the seeds for the ultimate outcome so, yeah... Anyway, great book that kept me up past my bedtime. And now I'm really dying for Izzy's book.

If you love the SEAL Team Sixteen and Troubleshooters, Inc. stories of past, you WILL NOT be disappointed by INTO THE STORM! Suzanne Brockmann continues to deliver romantic, action-adventure packed stories that feature our favorite characters from previous releases, along with new characters that will pull at your emotions. I loved Lindsay and Mark's story, and can't wait for more to come in the future. Especially what will happen between Sophia and Decker, when Jules will find true love, and, of course, the continued love story of Sam & Alyssa. Kudos to Ms. Brockmann on another winner!

This book kept me up until the wee hours to find out what happened. The last half of the book was pure thriller. I loved the group atmosphere and tension. Brockmann writes such diverse and intelligent characters. One of the reasons I love reading/bingeing on long series is for charater development, and she is the master of character arcs.

Bueno la novela más extraña de la serie, los protas no tenían mucha química y bueno el tema a lo criminal minds como dirían los españoles, no mola. Ahhh y extrañe sobremanera a Jules, mi ídolo amado. Ya me voy a leer la que sigue.
