Kildale Academy #2

Queens of Hell House

Rate this book
The Seven Deadly Sins are here to stay...

Demons, witches, and who knows what else... they're all real. And they're living on the island of Possession that houses Kildale Academy. This second book picks up where Hell House left off.

“Where is he?” I mumble, noticing a blurry Lukas whose dark and distorted features look devastated as he bleeds all over his shirt. My voice doesn’t even sound like mine, instead it sounds like I threw rocks into my voice box, making it gravelly and almost demonic. I feel a dampness seep into my torn-up clothes, causing me to shiver in the cold air. I bring my hands up to my head. My arms feel like they’re not even attached to me. I know I’m making them move, but I feel like I’m not in my own body. The sensation sends a jolt of panic through me. I swipe at my eyes and feel my flesh as a sharp pain washes over me. Where was Pierce?

LUKAS

Terror winds its way around my throat as blood drips from the gaping wound on my arm. The bullet left a searing pain that encompasses my entire limb as I manage to wrench Salem away from the rubble. She fights me the whole way, raising her arm at the pile of rocks that entombs my twin. Salem lets out a blood-curdling scream for Pierce. His name wrenches from her cracked lips as the wind picks up around us before she collapses onto her knees.

"We need to go!"

Find out what happens to Salem, Skye, and the boys of Hell House.

This book is intended for an adult audience of 18+. Please read the CW located on the author's website before reading.

Incredible

This book consumed me, once I started reading I felt like I fell down a rabbit hole I couldn't put it down. I loved it, the plot, the character development, the spice, the mystery. The ending came at me so quick I didn't expect the cliffhanger, I'm counting the days for the next one.

☓ dark paranormal romance
☓ town secrets
☓ why choose
☓ found family
☓ academia
☓ 7 deadly sins
☓ spicy

I am so excited to share one of my favorite PNR series with you all! This book has dark academia paranormal vibes with a little bit of humor. Like the argument about spam, naming of the cherubs, and yes you should make a stick with the phrase ‘an@l fiesta’ on it. I laughed out loud! (Also, can you find the hidden spam in my graphic? 😂) Dakota knows how to leave me seriously hanging. Buuuut this one wasn’t nearly as traumatizing (yes, I am being dramatic) as the first book. Though I am still thinking about Pierce…

This book takes place right after the first one, which I mentioned earlier leaves you on a major cliffy!! And still kind of leaves you hanging til about 30%? 😂(Dakota I am giving you a hard time. ILY 🖤) More secrets were revealed and you get a little more insight into the other guys in the house. I am still intrigued by Greed, and hope in the next book there are more interactions between him and Salem. I loved Skye and her character growth. The way she embraced her sexuality and started to find her true self. I love her! I also, can’t wait to find out more about her connection with the island or if is it with the deadly sins. I am so curious!

Congrats on an amazing release Dakota! If you are in PNR love you will for sure love this book. You need to read book 1 to follow what’s going on at Kildale Academy!

Diving back into the world of Kildale Academy and the characters that inhabit Hell House was like coming back home. The characters in this series are so relatable. I cannot even express how many times they brought up a family dynamic and I was like, yup, nailed it.

We return to Hell House after a huge cliffhanger, not knowing if our characters were safe. It was a rollercoaster of the first couple chapters, just trying to see if everyone was ok. I won’t tell you if they are, but I will say there were some omg moment for me when I was like HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS COMING??! The signs were all there and I just completely missed it, but I think that is a testament to Dakota Wilde’s writing. It was snuck in there so slightly that you had to be looking for it to see it.

This book has another cliffhanger and I finished it going, oh come on… I NEED TO KNOW MORE. Good news is that there will be a 3rd book. This book has so much spice that my eyebrows were up to my hairline. Characters explore some multiplayer fun… that’s all I will say. The fire… so much hotness (in more than one way… IYKYK).

I loved this book and I cannot wait until the next time I can dive right back in. Expect why choose, suicidal ideation, murder, and a good amount of triggers, so please read the trigger warnings first. ❤️

i have so many mixed feelings about this book and series i don’t even know where to start. i feel like there was so much potential at the beginning of the series with the storyline but then somehow in this book it felt like i was watching an episode of the vampire diaries with all this talk of covens, grimoires, veils, and spells. about halfway through i was just more confused and the ending only added to the confusion because wtf. some of the things the characters said were so cringey and why did they have to have sex at the weirdest times? it just felt unnecessary and forced at times. i was a fan of salem in the first book, not so much in this one. i think walker and graham are the only ones i’ve felt a connection with and that’s sad when there are 9 main characters (2 fmc’s and 7 mmc’s).

This book reveals a whole lot and gives more background to how everything came to be. The seven guys are possessed by the sins and often unknowingly taken over at their whim. I love how their names correspond with their sin. Still not sure where Skye fits in but I’m sure that’ll be revealed eventually especially given how close her and Salem are. Didn’t really give much thought as to Salems father but jokes on me considering who he turned out to be.

I'm so happy to be back at the Hell House!!!

🌟🌟this is book 2 and comes in right as book one ends. This review will have spoilers of book one. If you have not read, you will need to do so.

⚠️Check your Trigger Warnings ⚠️

♥️There are so many tropes and so many characters

🖤Dark romance
🤍Dark Academia
🖤Slow Burn with Spice
🤍Forbidden Love
🖤Enemies to Lovers
🤍Paranormal
🖤Demons and Witches
🤍Multi-POV

This series has a great list of characters!
You have your 2 main females, Salem and Skye. Still forced to live in the Hell House due to a fire in the dorms you learn about in book 1. But I'm not so sure it's still forced to stay 😉

You also have the 7 deadly sins demons in the guys:
Pierce-Pride
Lukas-Lust
Walker-Wrath
Emmet-Envy
Garrison-Greed
Graham-Gluttony
Slone-Sloth

Leaving at the cliffhanger of book one, the head masters demon is lost now that he is dead, and where is Pierce.
Who is the head demon going to go in or gone into 😉, and who is the new head master of the Kildale Academy going to be?

I absolutely loved Dakotas writing and how she took those questions left after book one and turned them into book 2.

Love learning more about Salem and seeing her come into her powers. Can't wait to learn more about Skye. She is becoming more open with the guys, but she still has secrets I can feel it.

And a hell hound! Yes!!!!

With this many characters, you would think it would be hard to keep up, but Dakota is amazing at letting each character have its own story! It all comes together ❤️

This ends in another cliffhanger 😳 Can't wait for 3rd book in June!!!

Loved the first book! Salem and Skye are out FMC with Lukas, Pierce, Emmett, Walker, Garrison, Sloan and Graham as out MMC our 7 deadly sins! Loved the recap at the start! The bomb that was dropped at the end of book 1 oh wow it was a big one, but that does not compare to the one at the end of this book. Like OMG 😳
I’m so glad this book carries on from book 1 so it feels like we don’t miss a thing! Oh Pierce!😢 I love all the boys, but Walker and Pierce definitely have me more, my favourite FMC has to be Salem! We find out so much about Salem in this book, but Skye is still a mystery. Princess?!? I need book 3 so bad. I am absolutely loving this series! Oh and it got very spicy 🥵

This book, this series is absolutely fantastic. I am not typically an dark academia person but this book and these characters are everything! This series is based around the seven deadly sins. I love that each of these characters personalities perfectly fit into each of the sins. When you go through this series, you will go through the emotional roller coaster and fall off the cliff in one beautiful ride 😂 I am so excited about the third book and I can’t wait to see what happens to these characters!

Not my favorite

This story is OK, not anything that I will read a second time through. It seems very rushed, there's not much character developdevelopment or explanations. I will be reading the third book just out of sheer curiosity.

🍑 fiesta! Who said that?
I absolutely love Queens Of Hell House. It was definitely worth the wait to see what mischief happens at Kildale Academy for Salem, Skye and the 7 sins. The spice in this book jfc, Dakota absolutely nailed the scenes. 😏
The plot was fantastic to the point i needed to know what was going to happen next. To see if my questions were going to be answered. But in true Dakota style, it ends on a cliffy 🤯
If you love paranormal DR then this may be for you. But make sure to read Hell House First! And also take the TW in these books seriously. Your mental health matters 🖤
Thank you Dakota 🥰 i can't wait to see what Reign of Hell House brings

4.5/5! Really enjoyed this book as I did the first. I don’t think there’s a character I dislike in this series, even though I hardly know anything about Garrison so not sure where he’ll slot in.

The separate relationships I really love especially now they’re developing into a more reverse harem group situation. I do miss Pierce being involved though, can’t wait to see him and Walker being possessive over Salem again.

The smut was very smutty (always a plus!) and there were so many twists in this book like Salems dad! Can’t wait to read the last book and need to know what’s going on with Skye, is she a witch or something else? I’m also sad at the same time, I don’t want it to end!

Couple of disclaimers.

Firstly, I read this as a ARC copy, but this is my own review.

Secondly, I don't like dark, bully or academia romances... Yet I freaking love the Hell House stories.

There is so much going on in this story, I have no idea how I'm supposed to leave a review.

Magic/demon wise, I love the world building Dakota has created. The little clues she is leaving as the story goes along have made my brain itch in the most delicious way.

The girls are amazing characters. I'm intrigued to find out what is going on my girl Skye!

And those Demon Ducks... They do love ducking around, with the girls, and apparently with each other too.

Yet another cliff hanger, but I'm feeling smug because I guessed it!

Can't wait for the next one :)

The suspense and spice in this book was amazing. Dakota out did her self on queens of hell house. The seven sins will forever be a favorite fictional boyfriend. Who doesn’t love a naughty man!

The story line on this book had me biting my nails, tearing up and just an emotional wreck in general. I cant tell you how many time i gasped with unexpected things that occurred. Dakota definitely grabs a hold of you and takes you on one crazy f’n ride!

Of course we all know she is the Queen of cliffhangers and she does not disappoint on this read, im left needing answers asap!!

There was no way I wasn't going to be obsessed with Queens. We pick up right where we left off. We go through grief with these characters. Be warned you left hanging off a cliffy again! And this time it's JUICY!!!!!
I love how much Walker is in
LOVE with Salem. That he is helping her and that he doesn't judge her for wanting what she wants.
Skye! ! ! ! ! Dakota knows how special this character is for me and she gets EVERYTHING in this book! I will say Skyes chapters are so personal to me that they made me cry. That Goddess is my everything

The cliffhanger. Always killing us with the cliffy 😂😂😂 agh I think I’m deranged in the head now because at parts I should have gasped I was grinning like the Cheshire Cat. Omg we learn so much in book 2. So many emotions. Sad , happy, mad, 🥵 and wtf…haha you’re in for a treat if you loved book one because it just gets better in book 2 and I can’t wait for the last one. I don’t wanna spoiler anything but the graveyard scene lives rent free in my head now 😁🖤

3.5 ⭐️

Alright alright, I definitely liked this one more. I got what I was hoping and did get to get some more time with some of the other sins. Idk why Greed is being saved for the last book, but I have a feeling I’m gonna like him.

All in all, this is a solid story, but it’s missing a little something that I’m looking for. It still feels a little surface level and on the nose to me - even with the heavy topics. I like to be shown things vs told them. It feels a little dis-jointed without that.

On the plus side, the spice is definitely improving and has more frequency in this book. I’m definitely gonna finish the series - I’ve come this far!

I did BETA read this, as well as I took my opportunity and totally ARC read for it as well!
Dakota does not disappoint with this second book. It picks up right where we left off, and even gives a quick recap in the beginning. The way she talks through the mental issues and scars at hand give such a great dynamic. Following the story of Salem, Skye and the Sins has been so amazing, and is giving us such layers and dynamics, and even though this leaves off in another cliffy with MANY questions, you just know that the third book in this series is going to be beyond EPIC! I refuse to spoil a single aspect of it, but it gives you all the feels and all the drama you expect from this group.

I can not even find the words but WOW!!!! I was not expecting what all goes down and the spice!!!! I was not expecting those spicy scenes! I have love for each character for so many different reasons. You can literally feel the intimacy and heat coming from the pages .
I found myself blushing and brows raised one to many times!

I got this as an ARC, after reading book 1 with the jaw dropping cliffhanger I knew I needed book 2 asap! Dakota really pulled out the big g*ns for this one, had me crying within the first 5 chapters, and the spice chefs kiss. I really enjoying this series and definitely have my own theories on Skye especially with that plot twist at the end. I really don't like Emmeline and for me the most likable character is walker. Out of the two FMCs Salem is my favourite and I can't wait to see what happens next especially with Pierce

3.5⭐️ I struggled with this book because there was a lot that didn't connect or make sense to me- mainly the actions, or rather, reactions of the character; however, I did still enjoy reading it. Every time I found myself bothered and thinking I didn't like this, something would happen that brought me back to enjoying it- so there lies the struggle to decide whether I was liking it or not. To be honest, I think I may just be a little bit too analytical for this series. Someone reading more for vibes would likely really enjoy it.

THE POSITIVE ✅️

✅️ The smut was smutting. The scenes are well written and hot 🔥. Loooooooved that touch of MM play thrown in.

✅️I like that FMC Salem instinctively knows how to use her magic on a basic level. This was something I originally planned to criticize - that one minute she didn't know magic existed, and the next, she was just doing it with no instruction. It seemed a little too easy and unrealistic….. but, then I thought about it and realized that I actually liked that it didn't take her a whole damn book to figure out how to access and control her magic- like other books I've read in the genre (cough cough, ZA). I mean, if this was something she was born with and a natural part of her, it makes sense that she should be able to instinctively access it and figure out the basics. So thank you, Dakota Wild, for not making us wait an entire book while she tries to figure out how to scratch her ass. 😀

✅️I’m in love with the hell dog. “Satan”, so cute! I'm positive it was not intended this way, but after he licked Salem’s leg, I can't help but picture him like Beastly from Care Bears. I kept trying to remind myself that he's supposed to be big and ferocious, but it just didn't help.

✅️One of the men, Garrison, still didn't “engage” with one of the FMCs by the end of the second book, and I'm here for it. I love that the author left a new connection for the last book. I find that characters getting together for the first time is always the hottest and once everyone has been together a couple times, it gets boring- so spreading out when the FMC gets with all the men in a why- choose is really smart and keeps a 3 book series exciting.

✅️I like that the chapters are short and to the point. I love that there is no incessant inner monologuing- that drives me nuts.

THE NEGATIVE ❌

❌️There was a little bit of ambiguity regarding how Salem looks, which bugs me because it made it difficult to commit to the way I was seeing her in my mind during the story. In the first book, Pierce describes her body as “lithe”- then in this book, she is described as having “generous curves”. So which one is it? Because it doesn't make sense to be both - You either are skinny and lithe or you are thicker with “generous” curves.

❌️Did she seriously just get her power regenerated by being fingered by one of her men while fighting a monster? Wow, that's really….. silly. At the end of the day, this is a smutty romance novel, and some people might think that a witch that regenerates her power via sexual acts is clever. I, however, am not one of those people. I am too analytical, and I find it silly and totally unrealistic- but this is just my personal preference and no hate to the author.

❌️Although I liked that Salem didn't take pages upon pages to figure out how to use her magic on a basic level, I did feel that the way she handled finding out that she was a witch with magic was unrealistic. She didn't even know that witches and magic were real and when all of a sudden it turns out they aren't just real but she's one, she accepts it like she would accept finding out she has a mole on her ass or a hidden talent for unicycle riding- no big deal. Now, I understand that she didn't have time to process any of it before her new fuck buddy was “killed”, so she was heart broken at first- but, heart broken or not, if I found out that witches are real and I am one AND I have magic powers, I'd be whirling with emotions and curiosity. It felt like it was way too long in between her learning this and her actually acknowledging it. I just felt that she was a little too blase` and chill about it all- it felt unrealistic.

It also made very little sense to me that she wouldn't contact her grandmother immediately after her grandmother sent her a poisoned pie and finding out that she comes from a long line of witches. After the pie was sent and everything went down, she didn't know for sure if her grandmother tried to kill her or someone else put poison in the pie, you would think she would pick up the phone asap to find out what's going on and to seek support from her family- and yes, I know her family is not very supportive of her, but that that point she would have still thought they would care about her being poisoned/killed

❌️Salem and Walker kill both the mother and grandmother in self defense.Walker says “we have to clean this up”... and then he sets the curtains on fire and they leave. Seriously? Wow, great “cover-up”! 👍 The grandmother was shot. Starting a house fire will likely not burn the bodies well enough that the police won't know the cause of death. Also, they were the ones to see them alive before the fire and the aunt and her husband know that- so why aren't the police questioning them?

❌️It also didn't make a lot of sense that Salem inherits her grandmother's wealth when her grandmother has living kids, and also, her grandmother disliked her and wanted her dead. I needed some kind of justification for this. It could have been easily addressed so that it made sense.

❌️The end of chapter 40- the scene where Lukas pushes Sky's ex, David, off the cliff.

I found this scene to be unrealistic in a few ways:

First, so Lukas tricked David into meeting him- for what reason? Was he planning to beat or murder this innocent kid just for insulting Skye when he dated her? Like, what was the point?

Second, physical logistics of the scene was off- Lukas had him by the collar, holding him up close to the edge of the cliff so his feet were dangling and his toes we barely touching the ground, but somehow the kid had the leverage to grab Lukas’ arm in an attempt to “throw Lukas off the cliff”? Make this make sense because I'm struggling to picture this in my head while reading this sequence of events.

Third, and most ridiculous and unbelievable is Sky's reaction to watching Lukas murder her ex. Sky has been portrayed as a fairly wholesome, levelheaded and decent young woman, but yet we’re expected to believe that she witnessed her ex be murdered by her new boyfriend just because he insulted her body size, and instead of running, screaming, being in fear for her own life (considering she knows Lukas is possessed by a demon) she feels grateful that someone cares enough to kill for her- and then she strips down and has sex with the murderer while looking over the cliff at the mangled dead body of her ex. WTF? So she's now a sociopath? I'm sorry, but I don't find it even remotely believable that a normal well adjusted 21 year old girl would watch someone she once loved be lured to a cliff and murdered needlessly and then not feel an ounce of remorse or fear.

“He thrusts his hips, sliding in and out of me. “You see that down there? He can never fucking hurt you again, baby.” My eyes flit downwards as Lukas fucks me from behind.”- again, all this kid did was break up with her because she had gained weight and then came crawling back apologizing and trying to get back together with her. Granted, shitty behavior but hardly punishable by death. I'm pretty sure calling him a small dick douchebag and blocking him would have sufficed.

“Maybe I’m darker than I ever thought possible, letting this man that has my heart and body fuck me while we gaze down at my dead ex below. His body begins to be picked apart by crows as the water laps at his feet.” - Ummm, since when do crows “pick apart” a person 5 minutes after they died? This scene just kept getting worse and worse!!!!

❌️More editing oversights. There are some awkward sentences, grammar errors and punctuation mistakes.

Eg. “I’ll be damned if I only rely on a man on recharging my power.”

Overall, I'm looking forward to reading the next book to see how this story ends. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that likes smutty why-choose paranormal college romance and is not overly critical, but just reading for vibes

🌶 4

I’m torn with this one yall. I loved these characters in hell house and only grew to love them more this time around. There was WAY more spice in this one which I’d gladly partake in. The reason I didn’t give it 4 stars is because I still have so many unanswered questions that I feel should have been answered by the second book. A lot of it was dragged out in my opinion.
