That feeling on the first day of spring, where the wind is brisk but the sun is warm, and you can just about bear to sit outside with your morning coffee? That. That's what Uniqlo U's SS23 collection captures. Simple, clean and sharp, the 27-piece menswear collection celebrates the intersection of function and versatility, all underpinned by a sunny, warming spirit. And, quite simply, we're into it.

A hotly anticipated shopping event, the biannual Uniqlo U collection is almost as hallmarked in GQ staffer calendars as the label's emblematic collaboration creations with JW Anderson. A celebration of Christophe Lemaire's design acumen at Uniqlo's ultra-affordable prices, it's worth setting (multiple) alarms for… and this year, Lemaire's SS23 offering might be his most pure and simple yet.
A timeless capsule wardrobe dedicated to trans-seasonal climates, Lemaire's Parisian design vision intersects with Uniqlo's Japanese utilitarianism to blend contemporary shapes with functional design. The result? Slim fit has been slung out and ease is in, replacing the form-fitting 'fits of yesteryear with quietly oversized silhouettes promoting comfort and utilitarianism.
In its purest form, the capsule reimagines old menswear favourites as well as reintroduces new silhouettes, gently pushing the envelope of what simple, everyman style can look like. Note the boxy tees, the straight-leg denim in subtle, neutral hues, and the lightly technical outerwear finished with wider collars and oversized flap pockets. The colour palette itself even hints toward a seasonal journey from dark to light, where deep aubergines and olives give way to a versatile range of dusky beiges and eggshell whites.
Between waist-cinching trench coats, plush Airism T-shirts and knee-skimming shorts, your transitional wardrobe has never been so effortlessly catered for, and there are few finer destinations for bulking out your spring/summer wardrobe ahead of rising temperatures. Though the capsule-based selection is already relatively select, we've gone ahead and comprised a selection of our favourite pieces for your perusal, to help you get ahead before stocks start running low. You'd better get browsing. Uniqlo U never lasts long.
