In July, the House of Delegates of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) decided to shift some 40% of the readers of JAOA—The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association to online-only subscriptions, along with all of the readers of The DO.
As a result, tens of thousands of osteopathic physicians, osteopathic medical students, and other readers are now signed up to receive monthly electronic tables of contents (eTOCs) instead of print editions of the JAOA and The DO. Sent via e-mail, eTOCs provide readers with headlines and descriptions of newly posted articles, as well as hyperlinks to those articles.
The JAOA has been sending eTOCs to its readers since 2004. The DO is launching this service this fall. As of November, all readers for whom the AOA has current e-mail addresses should be receiving The DO's eTOCs in addition to the JAOA's unless they have previously opted out of this service.
Signing Up for eTOCs or Opting Out
Osteopathic physicians, osteopathic medical students, and other readers who are not currently receiving the JAOA's eTOCs can sign up for them by contacting the AOA Member Service Center to update their e-mail addresses. The Member Service Center can be reached at (800) 621-1773, extension 1, or msc@osteopathic.org.
Alternatively, AOA members can update their contact information online through DO-Online at http://www.do-online.org. After using their AOA identification numbers and DO-Online passwords to log in to the site's members-only section, AOA members should select “My AOA” then “Member Service Center” on the site's main navigation bar.
All of the JAOA's and The DO's eTOCs will provide an opt-out mechanism. Readers can also request to opt out of this service for either or both publications by contacting AOA Circulation Manager Debbie Blissmer at (800) 621-1773, extension 8152, or circulation@osteopathic.org.
In addition, readers can use the form at the bottom of this page to opt in or opt out of eTOCs.
Readers can access the JAOA's online version at http://www.do-online/JAOA. The DO is available at http://www.do-online/TheDO.♦
