Nestled in the rolling hills of the Sierra Almenara SO/Sotogrande offers breathtaking views of both the lush countryside and the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. The resort is part of the exclusive Sotogrande estate, often referred to as the Palm Springs of Spain. With its whitewashed buildings and Andalusian-style charm, the property is an idyllic retreat that feels a world away from the busier coastal towns nearby. The rooms and suites are thoughtfully spread out across the resort, creating a sense of privacy and calm, making it a perfect place to relax and recharge.

SO/Sotogrande provides more than just a luxurious escape. It offers an invitation to indulge in holistic well-being with its thoughtfully curated 3-day retreat packages designed to restore balance and clarity to the mind, body, and soul. Among the bespoke options are the “Body & Mind Detox” retreat aimed at releasing stress and tension; the “Get Back in Shape” retreat, a carefully crafted program to re-establish a solid fitness routine; and “Rejuvenation,” a restorative journey designed to reconnect with one’s youthful vitality.

For my stay, I opted for the Body & Mind Detox retreat, while supplementing my experience with additional activities to make the most of everything Sotogrande has to offer. Below is a recount of my three blissful days spent at this tranquil haven.

Day 1: Golf lesson and revitalising spa treatment

I arrived at SO/Sotogrande just in time for lunch. After a delicious meal at La Reserva Club—one of the resort’s world-renowned golf courses—I headed to the driving range for my very first golf lesson. To my surprise, I managed to hit a few balls, and the late autumn sun made the experience quite enjoyable. It was the perfect way to shake off the travel fatigue and start my weekend getaway.

After my lesson, I retreated to my room, where I took a long, relaxing soak in the sunken bathtub before heading to the spa for a blended salt & body oil scrub, followed by a skin wrap and a head massage. Feeling more relaxed than ever, I returned to my suite to prepare for dinner at Cortijo Santa Maria, the resort’s gastronomic restaurant. I savored delicious jamón, local olive oils, and fresh bread before indulging in the main course—veal shank slow braised for over 30 hours.

Day 2: Sailing on the Mediterranean and restorative massage

On my second day, I decided to explore more of Sotogrande. I hopped on a bike and rode through the rolling hills, passing forests of cork trees and admiring the stunning villas that dot the area. From traditional Andalusian houses to modern, sleek designs, the architecture was a feast for the eyes. After about an hour, I arrived at the marina, ready for my sailing lesson.

Though the wind wasn’t strong, we still managed to sail out into the Mediterranean Sea, heading towards Gibraltar. Sadly, the famous rock was hidden under a blanket of clouds, but the sea breeze and that soothing feeling of being out in the sea, completely isolated from the rest of the world, was just what I needed. On the way back, we passed a fishing boat—perhaps catching the very mussels I’d enjoy later for lunch at the marina.

I returned to the resort just in time for my 50-minute massage. The therapist worked wonders, easing all the tension from my body and leaving me in a state of deep relaxation. For dinner, I returned to the marina, opting for a light salad since I was still feeling mellow from the massage and didn’t want anything too heavy.

Day 3: Flotation therapy and relaxing at the spa

For my final day in Sotogrande, I decided to dedicate myself fully to relaxation. I started the morning with a 30-minute flotation therapy session, which left me feeling invigorated and ready to unwind. I then spent the rest of the day at the resort’s luxurious spa, where I cycled between the sauna, cold plunge, steam room, and jacuzzi. To top it all off, I spent some time lounging in the sun, letting the warmth melt away any remaining stress.

SO/Sotogrande is a sanctuary where you can truly unwind, recharge, and embrace the beauty of the Mediterranean. Whether you’re looking to focus on wellness, enjoy outdoor activities, or simply bask in the sun, this incredible resort provides the perfect setting for an unforgettable weekend.
