Your guide to booking Sao Paulo flights

From booking to airport arrival, find tips to help you plan your flight with more confidence.
  • For the best chance at a low fare to Sao Paulo, aim to book around 8 weeks before you fly. That window historically saves about 12% versus last-minute pricing based on KAYAK booking data over the last 12 months.
  • For flights to Sao Paulo, recent KAYAK data shows that stronger deals tend to be around $2,104 return. If you see a fare below that threshold, it's a good deal – book before the price climbs back up.
  • If you can choose when to go, aim to travel to Sao Paulo in February. Return fares historically average $2,073 that month – typically the cheapest month to travel based on the last 12 months.
  • Before you book:

    • Check the route's typical price range so you can spot a deal.
    • Confirm baggage fees and seat selection costs on budget carriers.
    • Verify whether you need any travel documents beyond an ID.
    • Pick a departure airport, since your nearest may not be the cheapest origin.
  • Shift your departure to morning to save up to $347 per return. Morning flights to Sao Paulo average $2,437 compared to $2,783 for evening flights. See the time-of-day chart above for the full breakdown.
  • Once you arrive in Sao Paulo, a few great places to start are Parque Ibirapuera and HSBC Brazil Music Theater. These are popular with first-time visitors and can give you a good feel for the area.
  • Sao Paolo Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) provides a few 24-hour currency exchange facilities, at Terminals 2 and 3, if you need to exchange some Australian dollars (AUD) for Brazilian real (BRL). Alternatively, there are ATMs around Terminals 1 and 2. Don’t forget to notify your bank prior to travel.
  • If you require medical assistance while at Sao Paulo Guarulhos International Airport, there are medical services available at Terminals 1 and 2. If you only need some medicine, chemists can be found at all three terminals, with most of them open 24h a day.

  • When booking your flights to São Paulo, you can choose to fly into one of three airports near the city. Congonhas Airport is the closest to the city centre but also the smallest. The major airport is Guarulhos André Franco Montoro International Airport (also known as GRU), while Viracopos Airport is located in nearby Compinas, about an hour outside of São Paulo.
  • Because of the size of Guarulhos Intl Airport, there is a system of shuttle buses to help transport you between the three terminals. It takes about seven minutes to get from one terminal to the next using the bus; otherwise you can take the chance to stretch your legs and walk the 10-15 minutes between each terminal.
  • All the airports are connected to São Paulo’s public transport system, making the city easily accessible. • For those with a layover in São Paulo who are looking for a spot to relax before their next flight, there are a number of executive passenger lounges in Guarulhos Intl Airport. You can pay at the door to enter both the Executive and First Class Lounge in Terminal 3 and Villa GRU in Terminal 2.

Small twin prop plane. Basic flight. Food was half a chicken & pesto sandwich. As the flight departed after 12pm alcohol was available. No on board entertainment. No wifi services.

I liked the refreshments as the flight was short and the free WiFi. The seats were comfortable.

Although the flight was delayed and out of their control, we boarded and were underway in no time. The crew were great, the service A1 and the meal was superb ( I had the chicken dish). I would fly with Qantas again, anytime. Noel Swift

Overall, it was a very good experience. I would have given it a 10/10, especially based on our flight from SFO to Melbourne. The cabin crew on that flight were wonderful and incredibly attentive. They took extra care when setting up our beds so we could sleep comfortably without being disturbed. Dinner was served promptly and smoothly. I woke up quite late, when the flight was already preparing for landing, and the crew still made sure I was taken care of. They brought me English tea in a proper cup, and when it was time to prepare the cabin for landing, they thoughtfully transferred it into a takeaway cup so I could continue enjoying it along with some breakfast. Those small, thoughtful gestures made the long flight feel much more comfortable and special. The service from the SFO to Melbourne crew was truly excellent.

From start to finish, every part of the experience was outstanding. The care and kindness shown to my 95-year-old mother was exceptional—truly 10 out of 10. From the assistance she received at Sydney Airport while boarding the plane to the help she was given when arriving at Wagga Wagga Airport, every staff member was friendly, professional, and genuinely caring. They made her feel comfortable, safe, and well looked after throughout her journey. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make my mother's trip such a wonderful experience. Your compassion and dedication are greatly appreciated.

My flight with Qantas was excellent, the crew were exceptional, the food was very good, and the seats were surprisingly spacious and comfortable. I was extremely disappointed when my checked bag did not make it onto my connecting flight, but was pleased with the ease of filing a report of a missing bag with Qantas at the Auckland airport - there, my pleasure ended. I can see, with an apple tag on my bag, that it is still in Sydney and has not moved in more than 30 hours. I shared the tracking information with Qantas and was assured when I filed the missing bag report that my bag would be delivered first thing the next morning on the next flight from Sydney to Auckland. Qantas' missing bag tracking feature still lists its status as "searching for your bag, check back later" more than a full 24 hours after filing the report despite my having shared tracking information, a photo of the bag, and calling the customer care line and being assured that an "urgent action message" had been sent to the team in Sydney. The lack of communication from Qantas' customer service department and the lack of action after an incredibly expensive business class ticket price is outrageous and has, definitively, affected my willingness to consider flying Qantas in the future, much less on long-haul international flights with high cost airfare.

Going from Sydney to London on a single flight number was very convenient, not having to worry about changing planes. Entertainment system on A380 economy cabin is very dated. Lavatories are small. The self serve refreshments have been significantly reduced since the A380 first started.

It was ok, but not what it was like 20 years ago

Great food and good entertainment options for the long flight.

It seems that qantas are trying hard to regain their status as Australia's premier airline. I only flew economy but happy with the service entertainment, food, configuration everything.

Overall, a good experience on this leg of the trip

The arrival was pretty bad. Long waits for the bus to deplaning the airplane.

Apart of Sky miles delta. And they go everywhere in Brazil

There was a mechanical issue with the plane that they had to work on before we could take off. That's fine, by all means, PLEASE make sure the mechanics are functioning properly. What was a problem was the fact that we sat on the tarmac for 4.5 hours without moving, without letting us off the plane, and without climate control and air running through the plane. There was no explanation as to what was going on; they just kept promising that it would be "15 minutes, then we are on our way." At one point, they even switched the entire crew out and told everyone we just needed to wait for new employees to show up. Then, as the 4 hours were not moving, an hour before the full refund, they made a big show about "the flight starting and the doors are locked, so you have to sit down." We didn't move for another 40 minutes; they were just trying to skirt around legalities that entitled us to restitution. When the flight finally was underway, the plane was gigantic but cramped in design, my entertainment screen kept freezing and glitching, and subtitles didn't work, and the crew was passive-aggressive. Terrible flight.

I’m entitled to a refund per LATAM due to the mid flight itinerary change and being stuck in São Paulo for 24 hours and needing to get a hotel. The airline was dismissive and of no help.

I couldn't travel, now I can't get a refund and to change the date I have to pay an absurd fine.

My biggest complaint is the comfort. I am not tall and there was no legroom. It was very uncomfortable. During my transfer in Sao Paola, the flight was slightly delayed so boarding was confusing because there were no instructions in English.

Bought a ticket that included a bag and they still charged me to check it in, latam is the worst airline.

I never got this flight. You sent me to Chile!!! And from Chile I got the other flight to São Paulo... I've arrived 7h latter than I was supposed to arrive because of Delta delays.

Lost ,y connection due to a mechanical delay, huge line to get new connection and vouchers

Overall the crew were friendlier than similar premium airlines like Cathay or Singapore. Seat was good. Food was excellent.. the starlink wifi was a real plus. The entertainment was just ok.

Very poor No information given to why we turned around.. No one at airport to help

Friendly and discreet staff. Could have done with a few more offers of water/snacks overnight. Movie and tv selection notably poor. Seats not especially comfortable

The check-in and crew staff were wonderful. The food was reasonable. The online side Qatar was very poor. Seats were very tight and not very comfortable for a 14 hour flight!

No towels or tissue and chocolate and mint provided before arrival

I found it weird that the quality of the flight different from Australia to Doha than the Doha to Berlin leg. The quality of the toiletries pack (was in a box from Australia) and then a proper bag from Doha. The biggest variation was the inflight entertainment, which had a significantly shorter amount of content compared to the Doha flight. My QSuite seat was also broken and did not recline all the way flat. Wasn’t the best and I wouldn’t be happy if I’d paid cash for the flight.

Boarding process was terrible. Will not travel Qatar Airways if I had an alternative. The food was one of the worst, even for airline food.

The plane from Dublin to Doha was quite comfortable. I was in economy and the seats and rows were very tight. The man in front of me reclined his seat and it made my screen incredibly close to my face and I wasn’t able to take my tray down and my knees were pressed against the seat. I had to ask three times for him to pull his seat up but in his defence he hadn’t even reclined it far, the rows were just too close. I had a pain in my side by the end of the flight from the chairs which were quite worn and not very padded or supportive. It was a significantly inferior plane to the plane from Doha to Sydney and vice versa.

Everything was top notch. Only issue was the delay, but Qatar worked diligently to get me on the next flight. They were kind to walk me to their lounge in Doha to make sure I ate, slept and showered.

Didn't have internet connection, and the flight was over booked.

The flight was on time. The seats were ok and the Indian veg food was good. Overall good experience.

I really enjoyed the delicious food and the delicious breakfast; I also liked the seat—it was very comfortable—and the service was absolutely wonderful. The trip was smooth.

The only good part was what we paid for, we travelled premium economy, good comfort travelling with a baby. Flight with AirCanada was again delayed for more than 4 hours, service level is horrible and they don't care. They deliver the bare minimum for a world class price. If you can avoid canadian air lines, do so, oligopoly does not help them to strive for any service level.

I always enjoy international flights with Air Canada, the organisation the brand the prestige. It’s great… Lots of flexibility Text calls around gate and luggage including my connection kept me informed; Sarah the flight attendant on our flight was amazing with just the right amount of professionalism and spiciness which made sure the rude or unresponsive passengers were kept in line while making sure providing five star customer service she was amazing. No improvements assessed on my side.

In flight entertainment from screens on seat back had been disabled. The pilot initially let us know what the time frame was for us to take off but after that initial schedule obviously went way over the time he said, no further updates

The service was really good the crew also very good , the comfort excellent!

The crew, comfort, and food were good but the flight was an hours late to take off.

I would highly recommend Air candidate to anyone that wants to fly and enjoy the experience. The crew is friendly. The seating was comfortable all the amenities you would want were available.

Air Canada did not provide a reservation number for the code share flights with GOL that made it impossible for me to find my three flights with them, reserve flights, make changes, etc. Air Canada was unresponsive to multiple contacts from the concierge at the best hotel in Rio who said the Air Canada line in Brazil was never answered; multiple calls from me over a five-day period to the Brazil and US / Canada numbers were never answered. Also unanswered were Tweet and IM, which were recommended by the Air Canada app and online as a way to reach customer service. I was unable to reserve a seat and confirm a special meal - not life or death but expected and customary interactions with an airline. Air Canada offers an easy way to designate food preference but doesn't include vegan in the choices. Somehow, on the Sao Paolo-Toronto flight, I had food with tofu and soy protein; the flight down was pasta with cheese - not optimal. I give GOL credit (code share partner) for the tofu and soy.

I was upgraded to business so enjoyed it very much :)

The flight was with GOL, not AA. It was delayed and some people had to rush when they landed in Sao Paulo.

This flight did not exist. Rescheduled flight was to a different city.

Due to weather AA chose the poor option of redirecting my next flight to Gol airlines after 23 hours of wait. Their desk is not open during the day. Seats don’t really recline so falling asleep is a horrible challenge. Only one meal for an overnight flight. Poor experience, cheap partnership.

There was a big delay and I missed my connection flight

I had problems issuing the online boarding pass for this connecting flight. I had two booking codes (Kayak and American Airlines) and neither of them worked; I didn't receive a booking code from Gol. I had to call the airline (Gol), which gave me a third booking code that allowed me to issue the boarding pass. Even so, the QR code on this boarding pass didn't work at any point between entering the airport and actually boarding, which required document checks by airport and airline staff.

For an international flight the seats were smaller than most flight I have been on in economy. I don’t know the size of the seats or perhaps it was the size of the seat dividers that made the seats feel smaller and little amount of space to even turn your body if you needed to

Gate agent tried hard to be helpful. Flight was just fine, some information was even in English. Fortaleza is a nice airport.

Appreciate having multiple food options for allergies. Nice to have an extra seat between us for comfort.

My flight was delayed for 17hs because the pilot forgot his passport!!! What a joke. AA used to be a great airline, now I have to think twice before flying with them again.

When the first leg of my American Airlines flight from Atlanta to Miami to Sao Paulo to Brasilia was cancelled because of a tropical storm in Miami, American Airlines put me on Delta Atlanta to Sao Paulo where I caught my original Sao Paulo to Brasilia flight. American Airlines could have put me on a flight the next day or even 2 or 3 days later. But, the agent went above and beyond and made sure I got to Brasilia on time.
