The car I reserved was double-booked. The agent was very nice and was able to find another vehicle and didn't charge to refill the gas tank.

Both pick-up and drop-off were terrible. There were only 2 staff members, we waited in line over an hour to get the car. No clear information on additional pricing was given. Drop off was similarly bad, no indication on were to leave the car, the location was packed and they asked us to leave the car “wherever we could park” then they took forever to do the final check and the person doing it was annoyed by the crazy amount of work he had to do by himself and therefore quite rude.

The lady behind the desk at the pick up location was VERY rude and she intentionally didn’t want to help me with my reservation. When I finally got the car (after so much delay and struggle) the inside was filthy! The inside of the car had not been cleaned.

Wait time was extremely long, the car was not clean when we picked it up. Also the gas tank was not full when they gave me the car. so it caused a whole lot of confusion when dropping of the car

Avis did not honour the prepayment voucher. I had to pay their rate, which was double what I had prepaid, and the value that I paid was applied against the full walk up cost of the rental. I am spending a long time trying to get this rectified. And there was a 30min wait in line before I was served. The car was good, comfortable and clean, and had a full tank. However, the car is factory fitted with SatNav when I tried to use it, it said that this was a subscription service. It was disabled as I did not add it as an extra.
I couldn’t even rent the car because they wanted to put on a hold on my credit card that was more than double the actual amount. I figured maybe a little higher, but I couldn’t rent the car and there was no way for me to cancel through Kayak or Hertz. Each told me the other had to cancel, so I have no idea if I’m getting charged or anything? This is why zipcar is better.

We waited over 3 hours for our car rental because the facility (and at least 3 other facilities surrounding it) did not have cars for at least 15-20 people who were ahead of us. Because of this significant delay, we missed a wedding ceremony and cannot get this experience back. Management and their computer system need a revamp to ensure there are enough cars for the reservations made because having 15-20 different groups wait more than even just 30 minutes for their car agreement is extremely poor business and unprofessional. The staff themselves were nice and it's not their fault. The facility was clean with a working bathroom.

The car broke down 45 minutes out of the city on an entry ramp to a freeway. The police towed the car after working with Hertz emergency service. They had no other cars and the 55th Street location would not answer the phone the entire weekend. It cost me several hundred dollars in Ubers and ruined my weekend. I had to go into the office in person and called the phone while he sat there and didn’t answer it. I’ve never had such base service in my life. I’ve requested reimbursement but they have not yet responded.

Awful experience. I chose 'manager's choice' in my booking, as I'm normally not fussy about what car I drive and I like the experience of trying makes and models I haven't driven before. Unfortunately this time 'manager's choice' was an electric vehicle, a Chevy Bolt. I should have refused to take it. It was completely unsuitable for my needs. Unfortunately I went ahead. I was handed the key and given no advice about how to charge it or how to find charging stations. It turns out many charging stations require a particular app. Most charging stations are not found at gas stations. Also, charging the vehicle fully takes many hours, not the couple of minutes regular non-EV cars take to fill up. If an EV is your lifestyle choice you can plan your schedule, figure out the apps, figure out the charging network, and plan your route around that choice. As a novice to EV's and as a person taking a 24 hour rental, an EV was a completely unsuitable vehicle. I ended up with a massive additional charge from Hertz ($127 in addition to the $140 rental fee), as I had to return the car with a drained battery (I couldn't fit the 5 hour charge time into my schedule). The stress and delays caused by all of this was unreal. What should have been a 4-6 hour drive turned into a 19 hour nightmare. I entirely regret taking this rental.
I never had more terrible experiences in my life. We came to pick up the car waiting for one and a half hour in the employee was rude and nasty so that we are staying here waiting for the Car and New that she doesn’t have any car available.

The car I hired was fine until the left front tyre started leaking. I had to fill it with air in Philadelphia, Baltimore and Richmond. When I got to Charlottesville, I took it to the Budget location at the airport. They did swap the car but: 1. The vehicle was of a lower standard than that I had originally booked 2. The staff did not care 3. When I went back to the counter to report damage to the car they had just given me, I was told they don't check for damage so as not to concern myself with any damage. Why I was not given like for like was not explained. There appeared to be lots of Budget vehicles in the lot that were comparable to the one I dropped off, even if a different make. I find this odd for a car rental company to downgrade especially when there is a mechanical issue with the car being swapped. At the very least I should have been upgraded!

Terrible. The kayak automated reply sent me to a different pick up point. The service at the original pick up point was terrible. We had to transfer to another site to get a car. Both sites did not have the car needed and we ended up having to rent a smaller car that couldn’t fit everyone.
