About KGNS
KGNS has been serving the Laredo community since Jan. 7, 1956. The station first went on the air as KHAD-TV, broadcasting programming from NBC, CBS and ABC.
For many years, the station was known in the community as “Pro 8 News, Your Good Neighbor Station.” Today, KGNS continues that tradition as part of Gray Television, which has owned and operated the station since Dec. 31, 2013.
KGNS is home to NBC, CBS, ABC, The CW and Telemundo programming. The station provides weekday and weekend newscasts, along with livestreams and digital coverage on KGNS.tv and the KGNS app.
KGNS is also proud to be home to Laredo’s iconic Chief Meteorologist Richard “Heatwave” Berler, C.B.M., who has been part of KGNS News for more than 40 years.
In 2009, Telemundo Laredo expanded its Spanish-language news coverage with Telenoticias. Over the years, the station continued to grow its weekday and weekend newscasts, serving Spanish-speaking audiences across the region.
In April 2004, KGNS became the first local television station in Laredo to broadcast a digital signal.
Today, KGNS and its family of stations continue to serve communities across South Texas and northern Mexico. In Texas, KGNS reaches Laredo, Asherton, Bruni, Carrizo Springs, Catarina, El Cenizo, Encinal, Hebbronville, Mirando City, Oilton, Rio Bravo and Zapata. In Mexico, KGNS can be seen in Nuevo Laredo and Guerrero.
KGNS thanks the community for its continued support and remains committed to serving viewers with trusted news, weather and information. As the station’s slogan says, you can always “Count on Us.”
