Swiss-born character actor, on stage from 1908. Noted in diverse character roles at the Deutsche Theater in Berlin (1930-32) under the auspices of Max Reinhardt and Gustaf Gründgens. Regularly seen in German films of the 1930's, usually as physicians, innkeepers, chemists or military men.
