His character Andy Broom in Mord ist ihr Hobby (1984), was named by the prop department not by the writers. In his first episode
as Deputy Andy Broom (Thicker Than Water) the script did not provide a
name for the deputy's character. When actor Ron Masak who played
Sheriff Mort Metzger realized this, he looked at the name tag Louis had
been given by the prop department and called him by that name (Andy) to
help establish this new Cabot Cove deputy.
