"Elijah & Elisha" is the ninth video made by St. Joseph Communications in a Bible study series entitle "Footprints of God." Author and Mediterranean area tour leader Stephen Ray and his wife, Janet, made this series over a 20-year period. It covers major people of the Bible. And, it takes viewers across the lands of Christianity, from its ancient roots, through its Jewish ancestry, to the time of Christ and the early church.
In this film, Steve Ray and company traverse the lands in ands around the Holy Land where the prophets Elijah and Elisha lived and moved. The film opens at Dan in the far northern tip of Israel. Toward the end, it travels St. Macarius Monastery in the western desert of Egypt. That is where the bones of Elijah and John the Baptist were taken in 395 A. D., ahead of much destruction of Chrstian sites in the Holy Land
Among the many places visited in this film are the Valley of Himmon (biblical Gehena) near Jerusalem. The film goes to Mt. Tabor in Galilee with its great views of the country. Ray takes viewers across the Jezreel Valley and to Mount Muhraka in the Carmel Mountain Range. From there, and at Haifa, one has great views of the Mediterranean to the West and the country to the East. In Jordan, Ray visits the archeological site of Tishbe, the home of Elijah. Other stops are at Mt. Sinai, Jericho, and the Jordanian town of Sulam. Finally, the film visits the St. Macarius Monastery and church in the Egyptian desert west of Cairo.
This is an interesting tour and educational film about the Holy Land in the time of these great prophets, who lived around the 9th century B. C. In my travels I was able to visit many of these places. This is an outstanding video and film series that most people should enjoy. Especially Christians and those interested in the Bible, archaeology or history of the region.
