A work of art and a visual gem that promises to be more than just its twenty-minute run time of fresh, incisive dialog. It's common for the otherwise heavily stereotyped 'German film soldier' to question the motives of his superiors within a script requiring throw away lines. Nothing is 'throw away' about this film. Set on the front lines of the Tunisian desert in 1943 Tim Galt and Christoph Malzl offer an intriguing exchange between a German and an American on the political parameters of WW2, and the war's cultural milieu.
No simpler contrast exists between the weary engagement of enemies in a forgotten theatre of war and the blunt keenness of thought which 'life on the sharp end' requires of them. The German muses, 'They took our freedom a little at a time...and one day it was gone!" The GI wonders from a similar experience which governments are the real enemy.
The facets of this precious, hard stone showcase director Joseph Quinn's masterful treatment of dialog, coloring, editing, sound and wardrobe, making its presentation as a whole a unique advancement in indie/short filmmaking excellence. Promising more, it richly deserves to be.
